Reviewed: Columbia Sportswear Omni-Heat Reflective

95 ratings | 33725 views
In this gear segment, we briefly review the Omni-Heat Reflective technology. Over the past few months we've tried and tested the gear extensively on a few trips (including that infamous 8km bushwhack portage in the blizzard) and yes, Omni-Heat kept us warm! The biggest benefit for backcountry users is a lightweight layering system which may keep you warmer than traditional gear. We found we were able to pack less clothing and layer effectively with the Columbia system when heading out on extended winter trips. We've enjoyed #TryingStuff with Columbia and we're thoroughly impressed as the pros vastly outweighed our noted cons. very helpful review, even more than 4 years later. You have solidified my choice for my next jacket

I actually find cotton to be significantly warmer than wool in ALL applications. Socks, gloves, hats... It doesn't matter what it is. Cotton is always warmer to me. I literally feel like wool sucks heat from my body like nothing else! I avoid wool in winter like it's the plague.

wool tends to absorb heat and lock it in depending on the colour you are wearing, so this may sometimes be literally the case! the trick is making yourself the center of the heat storage rather than the conductor sending heat to the wool
I have now 3 jackets with omni heat and they warm, and also bought lately boots with omni heat - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBnaA6_KmTA here one of my jackets

Can I waterproof my 100% Columbia therma coil winter jacket or will it ruin it?

this is a descrition of the products,. it is not an independant review of whether the omniheat "technology" actually works.

Well done clip. As a backpacker who has a couple of omni-heat products I do have to say that they function when you're moving and don't really deliver the goods when you're not.

any idea the difference between the midweight baselayer and the heavyweight baselayer (heating wise) ???

Dude, cut the sales pitch tone, turns the whole deal into a commercial instead of a review.

Nice +ZealOptics sunglasses! Great video guys. I have the omni-heat balaclava - it works well. Amazing how far clothing tech has come.
