Batching is great as a basic principle, but the challenges to doing it on a daily basis are considerable. We discuss them all at www.ScheduleU.org - The School for Scheduling Everything. Thankfully, there are apps which make the job much easier, but the underlying habits and practices must still be in place.

I've always been doing batching. I'd wait until I have to do everything and I'd do them all in one go but mostly for errands as I love staying home. So, I'd wait until all can be done in one go, that's the time I'd do. Saves a lot of time and money too.

I batch companies during the work week. So Monday is blocked out for one of my companies. It helps me focus on the stuff that matters. it's not the best way, but it works for me.

Hi Tim. Culd you please answer my (yours :-) ) 3 questions? 1. What advice would you give the 37-year-old author of textless books for children who want to do good business on it. 2. What advice should that person ignore? 3. What is the worst advice that you hear repeated often in your industry?

Consider the immensity of this one act, 60 million American children have been murdered by their mothers but there are no graveyards honoring there dead bodies there are no or memorials acknowledging them being sacrificed instead the children are dissected and sold the research and development facilities and their mothers are allowed to promote their own violent Acts and it's socially acceptable and it's never been identified as being the only American genocide in the past 200 years it's worse than slavery and it's worse than War I wonder if anybody out there knows its name? Tim. We've got to talk about your thumbnails. This tendency to look like you're coming off a 3-day bender in those pictures is admittedly comical but I don't think that is your intention. Thumbnails are the snapshot of why I should click on the video. Almost more than the title. Have you considered color coding thumbnails to categorize the topics? Maybe with a bar down the side? I found it helpful in the 4 hour chef.

This was hugely beneficial man, thank you. Love these videos. I am more visual, so seeing you talk is for some reason better then hearing it via podcast.
Kevin Cain (10 months ago)
Always insightful and thought provoking. I like the concept but think it is difficult to apply broadly, depending on the type of job you have. If you are self-employed or independent, it's much easier. But everybody can do this to some extent. I do find it helpful myself with organizing my day. BTW, great jacket!
Richie Montgomery (10 months ago)
Damn, I thought batching was sitting around in your underwear eating a block of cheese the size of your head (like George Costanza) while watching mindless movies, only getting up to refresh the drink and open yet another bag of Cheetos. I learned it was something else altogether! Thanks Tim!!
Jacob Hoffner (10 months ago)
Are you familiar with kaizen or lean manufacturing? Batching using this philosophy proves to be incredibly wasteful. Not hating on your style but you may find it interesting!
A C (7 months ago)
Yes and no. In a production line it depends on set up costs and time. When talking about lean manufacturing the idea is to achieve a low lead time by using machines which don't need lots of setting up. The aim is 1 piece flow i.e. doing all the activities needed to produce 1 piece consecutively and as fast as possible. The opposite of 1 piece flow is B batch-and-queue whereby many pieces go through 1 process resulting in many items which are "work in progress" and resulting in the lead time for a finished product to be extremely long. So in summary in manufacturing when your aim is time to market, as long as you can use machines that allow fast and cheap set up lean is the way to go and batching is extremely bad. For e mail batching is extremely efficient as the alternative is "always on" and the distantvatages of that are immense.

The Wrestling Coach (10 months ago)
For several yearsI have applied this to our practice and training structure, but to the work we do at Beat the Streets. It helps the kids find focus when it can be a challenge for them related to their person characteristics. Batching got my through middle school when I teacher would put a 15 minute clock on the board for a project, I knew all I had to do was focus on it for 15 minutes. Give me an entire day and I would have been lost. Thanks Coach Ferris - Jeff Marsh, Beat the Streets

Batching changed my life. Super important to batch all the social media and email messages and comments into certain times of the day. I usually have the afternoon lull of 3:50pm to 4:20pm blocked out for "Internet Responding Power Half-Hour." It's a great way to ease into evening creativity time. Thanks, Tim!

Can you hire an assistant to go through mail to sort it based on what you don't want to look at? For example assistant could take bills to an accountant and you never need to look at them.

Once again Tim, thank you for your amazing content. Without any exaggeration, I'm where I am in life thanks to you! But, after consuming so much of your content, you still manage to teach me new things. Thank you for that, and keep up the great work! Now, as far as batching is concerned, I have read about it many times before, but it was this video that clarified it for me, and I've already started implementing it in my own life. I even wrote a definitive guide on batching (it's long), and I've linked to your video as a great resource for people to learn more about it. People can find it here: https://www.themetalearners.com/batching/.

So, how does this compare to chunking? When I design courses online, I try to use between five- and seven-minute chunks. This is deemed as good practice. I also do chunking in the restroom, but that is a whole other story.

I really like 4-hour work week and am eager to explore your other videos and writings. The batch idea though - isn't that just common sense? I do this all the time. I never really thought of it as a technique. Just a way to be more efficient.

Real Question:👌 Tim, When formulating your 'batchified' schedule, where do you keep all the info? Google calendar? Excel sheet? Wall calendar? Journal? Thank you Tim! 🙌🙏 P.S. Been doing the 5 min. journal + the journal tips from Tools of Titans for years now and has given me tremendous structure, peace & clarity, THANK YOU for that & everything else you've done and become! 🙏🏆🌎

I wonder if anyone who watched this video does this, or know anybody who is doing that, or even seriously is planning to do this system? I'm just curious if that is possible to live this kind of organized life, or this is always just another trick that no one does in real life, but all books are talking about it. I cant even do something consytatntly for 3 days. What is wrong with me? :)
Tim, I swear. For YEARS!! Literally YEARS!! I have been fighting with myself and doubting my abilities and productivity and even TODAY!! Thought about this. I’ve starting “batching” although not knowing this is the term used. Using this seems to work for me but I continually feel bad about it because it’s not seemed productive or cool

I do laundry every few months (3 to 6 months) and then drive to the laundromat, use up 8 machines to 10 machines and spend the same 2-3 hours but now I only did laundry once. I do have a lot of clothes, sheets, etc... I save a lot of time.

Thanks for introducing the term. I have a comment and a question. This beard style is spot on for you, looks really good; Would you consider batching to be a good idea for studying - 1 subject for every day. Immerse myself with only 1 big topic per day, it would also help with the task-switching downside; or would it be better to study a few hours a day on every(4) subject?
