How to Learn Faster with the Feynman Technique (Example Included)

100302 ratings | 3412313 views
If you want to cut your study time, using the Feynman Technique is a great way to do it. Named after the physicist Richard Feynman, it revolves around explaining a concept in simple language as if you were teaching it to someone else. In this video, I'll show you exactly how to use the Feynman Technique. Want examples? You can find them here: https://collegeinfogeek.com/feynman-technique/ My book "10 Steps to Earning Awesome Grades" is completely free, so check it out if you're interested in improving your grades! http://collegeinfogeek.com/get-better-grades/ ---------- Videos you might want to watch next: 5 Tips for Acing Multiple Choice Tests: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1y8c_MZYvE The Most Powerful Way to Remember What You Study: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVajQPuRmk8 ---------- If you want to get even more strategies and tips on becoming a more productive, successful student, subscribe to my channel right here: http://buff.ly/1vQP5ar Twitter ➔ https://twitter.com/tomfrankly Instagram ➔ https://instagram.com/tomfrankly ~ created by Thomas Frank Music: "Nola" by Broke for Free: http://brokeforfree.com/ Graphics: https://paper.dropbox.com/doc/081-The-Feynman-Technique-tKx0c7JzZ6rzkraWIZ1Bm My wallpaper: http://i.imgur.com/M6tL2a8.png

Correction on the example - 25 + 9 = 34, so C would be 5.83. Bonus tip: Don't do math at midnight while also trying to pack for a 5am flight

Thomas Frank Feynman Technique a jewel Thank You .I wish the music tutorials would discover this. Music Theory can be very difficult and many terms NOT NECESSARY. many seek YouTube music lessons because they are beginners. They should remember that instead of deluging some eager beginner with endless music terminology, I think they do it more for themselves than any interest in helping.Maybe you could do a video on how to find tutorial videos that are your level, that is if you know that level Just a thought. Also music is really not math but arithmetic, Pythagoras I believe worked out the 8 tone or octave system.

You've made 5:47 minute video and spent the better half of it on background info and referencing other videos. Even though the video was informative, you need to improve upon your technique. I don't usually add comments to criticize people in this way, but you seem like somebody who knows what he's doing and you have a very appealing voice, thus people enjoy listening to you. So, please receive this as constructive criticism rather than a rant of any sort.

Thanks for the great video explaining a very useful technique. It might have been worth saying at some point, that one should always be careful not to loose anything fundamental when simplifying. There is a limit to how far you can "simplify" some concepts, and a flawed explanation would rather defeat the purpose.

in a video about simplifying this guy doesn’t get to the point until 2 min in. not bad overall but just ironic.
plolee blowoteehow (1 month ago)
the problem is that even if you could explain it, how do you know the person you are trying to explain it to will understand it? explaining and understanding are two different things. but the point is for you to understand it by explaining it. so who do you try to explain it to? yourself. if you can explain it to yourself.. then it means something. if you can't explain it to yourself.. then it doesn't mean anything. sometimes it's best to not try to explain something to yourself. after all.. if it can't be understood in its present form.. then why waste time trying to reformulate it so that you can understand it? how do you know that taking something apart so you supposedly understand it is wiser than not taking it apart and only understanding it in a supposedly limited form?

To be consistent with your own remarks .. should have used an example nothing to do with math / science which is a higher discipline than the humanities which you mention, e.g. history, etc. Could have used "Mary had a little lamb" and immediately understood via Professor's Feynman's teachings. Believe he would have : ) Had a great sense of humor, FYI. Thanks for the vid!

Tim B. Green (2 months ago)
Good stuff:-) I'm an English teacher and I often tell my students that if they can't USE vocabulary in a sentence, they don't understand it yet. I also encourage them to ask wh questions of each other, then strive to explain or reply using the simple and concrete language of a young child including sensory words that correspond to what a child sees, hears, feels ...especially when they experience something new and explain it to another child who's never experienced it. ie. It's an animal that climbs trees, eats bananas and is very smart. Until they understand what a monkey is, does, looks like, behaves... it's just an abstraction UNTIL they associate it with the animal that word represents.

just when i heard that a kid would ask why and how that work, its a concepts show that its a feynman technique is too make we learn deeper. Its wasting time to think if we really understand theorem pythagoras but to explain to kid how its work by kids imagination. How can you say it learn faster but we had to learn something else or other thing than only to understand the pythagoras cncept deeper.

As said in the article, Scott Young made this method. Also, the American philosopher Richard Paul made a better method for clarifying something called "SEE-I" (State, Elaborate, Exemplify, Illustrate).
AbdulMoiz Ahmer (3 months ago)
I have been using it since 2014 with out knowing it was called feynman technique. I sort of figuerd it out myself :D. It does work. Though i added a little twist with it i used to explain it to more than one person some times more than ten but every time i understand a new thing from same topic.

I use this technique to teach an acting class (based on the principles of Sanford Meisner). I teach a free acting class for disabled veterans at the Sepulveda VA and I require my students to teach once they reach a certain level because teaching is part of each students personal growth. Just like in Martial Arts training (at SOME schools) where each student is expected to teach once they reach a certain level.

you poeple understand that a: this video is using Feynmans name to con the stupid and B: feynman is mostly a self created illusion whos not particularly important in physics.. belay that. not remotely important in modern physics... and that being a physicist and being anything else are completely nonrelated right? Tip: even the most brilliant physicists.. no especially them.. wouldnt succeed anywhere else. Theyre that special and rare

The greatest thing I have learned is to learn it and then teach it because when you teach it you retain 90 to 95 percent of the information instead of just being a learner for a test. That is another reason why I like to learn the subject then teach it to learn faster or more efficient.
