T-Mobile USA and Telekom Romania are indeed owned by the same Deutsche Telekom, but they are for all intents and purposes different companies using the same logo.

I wouldn't have put it quite in those words, but I would agree that Romania is wonderful. It combines breathtaking scenery with fascinating historic towns like Sibiu and Iasi, magical castles with modern housing estates and rich culture based on national pride and loyalty. I would only compare a country like Sweden or Finland with this combination, though many countries are perhaps richer in one individual aspect. Romania also has frindly and welcoming people and of course an incredibly low cost of living (for now).
Terry (5 months ago)
I love how every time I'm interested in going to a new place and look it up on YouTube, you already have a video on it. Keep up the great work! :)
Gabriel Traveler (5 months ago)
Cool.
Traveling by train is actually the worst thing to do in Romania.... and I can say this myself
mrsbrown andhercat (1 month ago)
I understand why you say that, and I always advise taking the bus alternative if possible - faster and more comfortable. The ordinary trains are maddeningly slow and they break down a lot. But even at their best, they are dirty, uncomfortable and smelly. But there are private trains between the main centres, that are expensive in local terms but still very cheap compared with western fares. The bus rates equate to about $1.00 per 15Km (abt 2.5 miles).

CFRTrainSpotter (5 months ago)
For those who want to know: The train you see here is NOT Romanian (State) Railways (CFR). The one with green and yellow you see here is of a private operator called "Astra Trans", which is basically a sub-company of the railway carriage manufacturer "Astra Vagoane Arad". Sadly CFR's services are not as good as compared to Astra Trans' services because lack of care from the government... a little example i'd say is i went on the same type of sleeping carriage once from Oradea to Bucharest in 2013, but i couldnt sleep in the upper bed because i was at risk of falling down because there was no protection to prevent that... compared to Astra, they have pretty much the same carriage but give you protection so you dont fall off from the bed... :P Another little trivia here: the Predeal-Brasov segment was the first electric rail line in Romania, with test trials starting from 9 June 1963 and full service from 9 December 1965. If you look carefully the original electrification is still there :P

Why are you so obsessed with your phone? When you go to Romania leave your creature comforts behind.
Skylark (5 months ago)
I see. How do you procure this device that you call a 'phone'? I'm skeptical because people the world over have managed without it for centuries.
Gabriel Traveler (5 months ago)
A phone is a traveling essential these days. As I showed in the video, I had a hard time finding my hotel without it, even after asking for directions. I could have called an Uber at the train station instead of a taxi and saved money. I need it to post to Instagram and to get info online about the places I'm visiting. One of the best traveling items you can bring.

From a romanian point of view for all new tourists that want to visit our beloved country, here is an advice, never ever in ur life use taxies to go to far-away destinations even if it is 5-10kms. they will charge you as Gab said there, 300% even more, because they are douchebags. Please use buses. thanks and have a pleasent visit !
Ionut Chiorean (6 months ago)
To bad it was so cloudy. The mountain views from the railway it's stunning there. You saw only the foothills of the Bucegi Mountains.
Mircea Draghici (6 months ago)
man, you pay way too much for things... 20$ / night is not really that good for that room. you ate in bucharest for 80lei... it is very much for one person, there are better places cheaper and much better taste.

Romania is a beautiful country in winter and summer been there on a few occasion's and going back again ,,,A good tip before you go is to try learn some Romanian before going coz not everyone will know english,,, oh and becareful of soups at restuarants ,, they dont always make it fresh , can be 2 or 3 days old same as the smoked meats in restuarants so always ask if its fresh ,, there stomachs are a bit stronger than ours when it comes to food but try the ciorbă de burtă ,,,lol

I'm here in Texas, with my windows open---bringing in the warm Spring breezes, upper 70's, sunshine and blue skies. Flowers and trees in full bloom. Yet...how interesting it is to see you in a such a snowy, beautiful Winter environment. Kind of a "weather culture shock". Wonderful, fascinating video, and the food looked good as well, in the Da Vinci restaurant. Thanks Gabe!

Gabe talking about your surprise to see Tmobile office there in that Romanian city, i hope you do realise that Romania have literally one of the fastest internets in the world? I am from Montenegro ex Yugoslavia and here in capital Podgorica there are several great Tmobile offices, which is normal considering that Tmobile is one of the main operators here and sponsoring some sports clubs etc. My wi fi internet is 60 Mps and is standard price for my city and country. For the very solid net and best channels of cable tv together, i pay around 27 euros a month. Not using Tmobile though. I use Telemach.
Gabriel Traveler (7 months ago)
Yeah the internet in Romania was great. Both Bulgaria and Romania had good internet, much better than Greece, Cyprus and a lot of other places.

Love the buildings and the cleanliness of it. So pretty! Yummmmm fish and chips!
mrsbrown andhercat (1 month ago)
The stuffed cabbage rolls are called sarmale - delicious and nutritious. An everyday dish in most normal homes. Most Romanian food is healthier than the western diet - more vegetables, less fat, salt and sugar, but also quite spicy with pepper, garlic and paprika. A loaf of bread costs $0.25 (£0.20), ie 25 cents/20p and all food prices are at that level - except cheese for some reason, which is expensive by local standards. Leave fish and chips to the British!

What an enchanting city! It seems super nice in the old town there. I’m impressed with Brasov from this video!👍🏼✌🏼
mrsbrown andhercat (1 month ago)
Tony - you beat me to that word (stunning). It's fantastic in the summer and best by night in winter, with all the lights. The really old parts is right in the centre and they often have folk dances and music out in the open, in summer. It's a city you'll never forget and you'll always want to come back.
Tony Ofarrell (6 months ago)
Karin B Brasov is absolutely stunning
