+Real Men Real Style Hello Antonio! How are you doing? I would like to ask you, if possible, for Portuguese PT-BR subtitles. I'd do if I could, but my english is very poor. There are a lot of men here in Brazil, and I guess also in Portugal and other countries who would love to watch your videos but don't understand even basic english language. My father being one of them, he used to be very stylish and well dressed till his 40's, but them with age he forgot that style is even a thing. He would really apreciate this videos just as I do, and would make wonders for him and a lot of other men. Thank you!

Is this a joke? It took less steps to restore the Mona Lisa. It would be quicker to just buy the leather pieces and make a new pair by hand.
Antonio, wax special for shoes or can I use the usual?
Sylvia Hellewell (2 months ago)
When I was little my dad always polished his shoes this way every Sunday evening and I loved watching him. Of course he taught me how to do it and I still do it to this day. Excellent video.

When should i polish my shoes if I wear them at least 2 times a week? And if I condition my shoes do i have to polish them?
Ben Garcia (2 months ago)
I love this video but legit question, do you wash and or rinse your creme polish brush? I ask because after using a cognac cream polish, the bristles got hard after awhile. The brand of creme polish I used was called Ralyn Lmk what you think Antonio Or anyone else commenting on this video.

This is an amazing way to polish your shoes. I used it to start polishing my cadet shoes and the first shine was amazing i did this once and after about only 1 week of doing a normal way I can now see my own reflection in the polish and I get no complaints from higher ranking NCOS or staff. Great Advice

Bad video , they didn't tell the process for the other shoe , can not have only one side show shined 😜
Riaan Eloff (1 year ago)
Hi Antonio, Thanks for awesome videos! All the things you mention here in this video, should I be doing it every time I wear that specific shoe, or should one only do certain of the steps? Should one only shine every time? Also thanks for the linked article. Went through that too, but did not see any indication. Please advise if possible? Am concerned that if I wear my shoes twice a week, that this process may be overkill? Also, could you advise: I have a pair of brown leather Chelsea boots. Even though they are brown (light brown), the toe is darker than the body. How does one deal with getting the correct colour polish, or should I use a transparent polish?

Kicker Vallas (1 year ago)
Suggest sole dressing as well ;-) can be used for the edges of the soles (as intended) but can also be used to dress any stitching that fades ... also, should really hit with alcohol using the applicator brush (I prefer an old toothbrush) after initial brush cleaning to remove/redistribute any old wax buildup :-) ... and hey! we were usually docked if there weren't stars where the shoe/boot flexed HA HA HA!

marines shine their shoes ?? whats the point
Chris Huynh (1 month ago)
Marines switched to tan suede leather boots in 2003, but the point is to protect the leather and look sharp. If you hit your foot against something, you scuff the wax not the leather, and it's really easy to refinish the mirror shine.

Ben Heinatz (1 year ago)
Great tips! I've been told to let the wax polish dry between applications. You don't agree?
Comment Youtube (1 year ago)
I only have a neutral polish and some water but despite getting a beautiful shine via the polish and small dabs of water, as soon as I take a brush to it, it smears it and dulls the surface again. If I put my fingers on the shoe too, it leaves a greasy imprint. WHAT DO I DO?
Ben Heinatz (1 year ago)
Comment Youtube Let it dry for a day.
Luke Szpunar (1 year ago)
Do you have a brand of shoe polish or shoe care products would you recommend?
NowThatsMusiQ (1 year ago)
Is it necessary to apply the polish cream?
Ben Heinatz (1 year ago)
NowThatsMusiQ The cream polish also helps to moisturize; I kinda feel that using a moisturizer and a cream polish is redundant. If you have the correct color cream polish, use that; if the shoes are 2-toned or you can't get the cream polish to match, just go with the moisturizer. Some would disagree with me, though.
NowThatsMusiQ (1 year ago)
thank you
kaikaichen (1 year ago)
Cream polish contains much more pigment than the wax polish and is very useful in restoring color to shoes that look faded or dull. If the color of your shoes looks just fine, then you could probably skip to the wax. I personally use the cream every time though (probably because I already own it).
Prateek Bhanj (1 year ago)
what could I use as an alternative to saddle soap
Treisiess (1 year ago)
I find using a soft rag works really well for buffing. It's how I shined my shoes back when I was in JROTC.
Delano Scott (1 year ago)

Mark Lorette (1 year ago)
Where did you get these shoes?
Shafiq Mazlan (1 year ago)
This has almost never been mentioned in all of the shoe polishing videos I've watched; do you clean the dirt off shoes at the start using the same brush that you would use later on for buffing the polish? Or do you use 2 separate brushes - one for removing dirt and one for polishing?
Tom Redmond (3 months ago)
Shafiq Mazlan Horse hair for buffing / polishing. Goat hair for cleaning, which can be done before this process and after use daily
Bryan Squigly (6 months ago)
I like to use a damp rag, just be sure to let it dry before applying polish
Leif Denti (1 year ago)
I use two brushes. Cleaner that way. The one for polishing should be horsehair, the other I use for cleaning has "stiffer" hair.
Ben Heinatz (1 year ago)
Shafiq Mazlan That's a damn fine question! Anybody know?!

Great video! How do you decide which color best suits your shoe? I had a brown pair and tried to polish them and the polish was a few shades off. I couldn't tell at the time of purchase but it ruined them. How do you decide for shoes that are two tone?
Ben Heinatz (1 year ago)
stoneykr I think clear/neutral polish for two-toned or hard to match color.

Do you use saddle soap everytime you polish your shoe? I plan on buying a pair of Paul Evans one day and I want to know what to do every time and what not to do everytime.
Brian Hom (2 years ago)
Patrick G (2 years ago)
saddle soap is too clean your shoes from mud and dirt an such. If not dirty, Just Brush your shoes and apply the conditioner and polish if you want it shiny. like he said, if you wear your shoes at least 3 times a week, then do the routine every week. if you only wear them on occasion, then once a month.
Mohanroop S (2 years ago)
hi Antonio, brilliant video! just have a few questions. The video video is pretty straightforward with a black Oxford. But how do you find cream polishes for shoes with peculiar colours like day oxblood or for even browns it's quite a big spectrum to cover. so my question is how to find the correct color of cream polish to your respective shoe color?
kaikaichen (1 year ago)
[long-ish post ahead] I'm not Antonio, but my advice would be to first see if the brand/company that made your shoes also sells polish. If it does, then they probably have one in the right color. If they don't, and if you're willing to spend more money, I'd look into higher-end brands of polish like (e.g. Saphir) because I've noticed that the more expensive brands seem to also have a larger selection of colors. You then can probably find a color that matches your shoes very closely. And if the color doesn't match exactly, it can actually be a good thing in my opinion because it creates a kind of antiqued, marbled look that to me looks more interesting and sophisticated than a purely solid color shoe. But if you don't want that and all else fails, you can always go with a neutral, colorless polish.

How to clean and take care of suede?
Patrick G (2 years ago)
oh and never water
Patrick G (2 years ago)
Brush them with suede brush. If that don't work, use suede eraser bar and work the area and brush it out. If really dirty, use steam from a kettle or something and steam the spot to loosen the dirt for a bit and eraser and brush till gone.

Question: do you have any suggestions for good overshoes to protect my dress shoes during inclement weather?
Ben Heinatz (1 year ago)
Skeet Sirmons Never heard of over-shoes... Do they wrap around the shoe, or maybe a big boot for sticking your foot, shoe and all in? With my recent inclement weather, I've been trying to get in the habit of wearing a different pair of boots to/from the office, then changing into my dress shoes when there. Not super convenient, but snow isn't great for leather soles. Perhaps I should be doing the same for rainy weather too? Man, now I want some over-shoes! I want some drivers, too....

i have a set of shoe shinning brushes both are the same length one is pointy at one end how do i use those two? D.A.I. Grazic

DraganGrazic Use the pointy part to get in the creases, lines and around the tops of the soles. Remember that the wax polish is also supposed to waterproof.

I realized the other day I never taught my son to do this. Amazing right. I was in the navy for 10 years he never really got that I did this and did it for my dad when I was a kid. So this year for prom I was in a mad dash to do his shoes and then realized he down know how. And yes I never had my son play baseball. My favorite thing too. Major fail.

Fire Line (2 years ago)
does the mirror shine work on brown leather boots too?
22jcrewjim (2 years ago)
I'm sure he will reply, however, until then, you may want to use neutral polish for the spit shine part. It simply does not have the dye in it. Basically wax. Polish shoes with appropriate shoe polish color and spit shine with neutral polish.

What do you you use for the outside of the sole and heel?

Hi Antonio - I have learned so much from your videos, thank you. I do have a question on this process. I went in to get saddle soap, and my "shoe guy" (yes, I have a shoe guy) - I had saddle soap, shoe cream and polish, so I went looking for leather moisturizer - my guy stated that saddle soap is good but an old product, that the cleaner and conditioner is often sold as one step. Then, I shared the information on your shoe cleaning process, and he stated that the only difference in cream and polish is the level of wax and stated that cream is usually enough for every day wear. I guess what I am asking is, what is the context in which I would want that kind of shine in my shoe? More formal, or every day? Also, why would I add shoe cream (that has wax) then polish on top of that (which adds even more wax)? Any insight? Thanks!
