Pre-K I remember my teacher Miss Dabbs was teaching us about art and painters. She told us that Michelangelo painted the Sistine chapel and we taped piece of paper on the bottom of our tables, laid on the floor, and painted like Michelangelo. One of my best memories and a big reason of why I started loving to learn.

Zxi. Hate. You
Wonderful talk! Congratulations on your achievements, prizes, awards, recognitions... Well deserved. I am an English teacher in Spain and recently graduated (Primary teaching degree). If not the most inspiring educational video I've seen yet. You breathe, speak and live passion, pouring out of your soul when you speak of your students. No act could beat this performance, which more than a performance, I would dare to say that Mr. Ruhl spoke out of pure love for his work, seeming to be his treasure and wanting to share that treasure with all since the greatest treasure a human can have is sharing that knowledge with the rest. There's no room for greed, envy or jealousy in this profession. We must be pure, transparent and authentic, and this talk definitely transmitted all of that - and more. Thank you Mr. Ruhl for sharing.

What about their results ? Do they perform better than before ? Do they perform better than their cohort ? What do they do after they graduate from your class ? Do they continue with this subject ? Does this method suit every student or are there exceptions ? What percentage is the exception ?

Many jobs will be replaced by AI in the future. What will most people do and how will they make a living? They can't all be inventors, scientists, engineers or working in creative jobs.

I absolutely love this, however, as a GCSE teacher in England, the curriculum must be completed in a limited time period. If it wasn't for that, I'd use these teaching methods.

I've same teaching experiences and teach in the same way. His assumptions are absolutely right. As always there is a catch; you've to work enormous hard backstage to reach the goal. In numbers; thousands of hours extra over five to seven years. If a teacher isn't addicted to his/her job, he/she won't make it. Congrats, Joe! Brobdingnagian Job!! Best, Jane.

After a 30 year insurance claims career, I’m going for my teaching credentials, needing a positive before-the-fact way to help rather than a picking-up-the-pieces after-the-fact world. Should have done this years ago, but wanted some life experience under my belt first. OK, it turned out to be a big, longer-than-expected belt, but I’m now ready. His lecture reminded me of the teachers I had, the mostly average, the few bad, and the few, exceptional, memorable teachers whose teachings, personality and humanity that are role models for me as I pursue this new career. I can’t wait!

I love this a million times! Mr. Ruhl made me cry. Our elementary education professors always remind us the kids will not care how much we know, until they know how much we care. I am certain that your students are some very fortunate students. I believe a person must be "called" to teach. You have the gift and the calling for sure!

Research on techniques is good, but not always. There is already too much research on alternative pedagogies for any teacher to try out in a lifetime -- it takes a whole semester (or two) to know if a method has improved learning. A better thing is that teachers should be trained by the MORE AWESOME teachers who can teach teachers how to find their happy zones as well (or more importantly) the happy zones for their students. A great teacher will also be flexible and not rigidly devoted to a research finding about good technique. If students do not "take" to your awesome research findings, you need to find another way.

This makes a lot of sense. The challenge in my classroom is getting the different formats of information for the students. The pre-planning is excellent. I would like to see if i can implement something similar in my classroom in the near future.....like....next month.
