Moby's 'Everloving' is the perfect song for me to use while meditating. There is a YouTube video where this song plays 3 times while a clip of a train ride on the Bergen Railway, which goes between Oslo and Bergen in Norway, is shown on screen. (I only listen while meditating, but I often also watch the video when I simply want to calm myself.) Of course, the playing of the video can be looped if a longer period of time is desired.

So it begs the question, does the meditation make people successful or is it that the kind of person (disciplined, seeking betterment, etc...) that would actually meditate has the right stuff be successful. Is it the chicken or the egg that came first?

Napping. That ether between wake and sleep for a few moments. The part you mentioned about focus on a friend, family... I kept a picture of our, my Beloved and I, favorite spot up in the mountains, just a simple view of a lake, on my desk. The reminder of that calm and quiet, that anchor, can have a profound affect on your well being. It is where I go when I 'meditate.' Not somewhere you want to go, somewhere you know.

Tim seems to have "matured" somehow compared to some of his earlier videos/interviews. He seems somehow calmer and more sure of himself, maybe caring less about convincing now rather than just sharing accumulated wisdom. Just something that struck me in this latest series of videos

It strikes me he has the capacity to listen, a critical thinker, this 'ability' I know to be inherent and not a learned skill. Meditation really helps to calm down. To begin, just sit with it. Me, doing guided meditation, mantra based or music for at least 20-30 mins has definitely pushed to do a minimum of 10 mins alone, without any of the above help.

I dont remember exactly if it was Tim that introduce me to meditation but it is certainly the most impactful. Since then I pick up the habit and it really have been 1 of the most helpful mind/body hacks that I begin to practice and develop, thanks Tim.

Subjectively speaking, meditation is well worth the effort, no doubt about that. But I feel ( i.e I have only anecdotal evidence!) that your claim about the prevalence of a meditation practice may be more of a reflection of your own very specific silicon, liberal cosmopolitan social milieu , Tim. Over here in the UK it is really very fringe, at all levels of the pecking order.

Maybe not practical for most people but *Group Meditation* is vastly more effective than solitary meditation for me, regardless of method. It's partly about knowing you're accountable to the group but also a case of the whole is greater than its parts.

When I start thinking about happiness it just turns into questioning what happiness is and why its any better than sadness. I think about the dynamic between boredom and thought. Stimulation and the passage of time.

Loving Kindness Meditation. Sounds interesting and beneficial. Thanks for sharing Tim. A few that I find helpful are: 1. Taking a big, slow, quiet inhale with my nose, holding the breath for a few seconds, before exhaling slowly using my mouth, and then refraining from inhaling for almost as long as I can. A sort of Buteyko-inspired way of breathing. 2. Taking a big, slow, quiet inhale with my nose, and then while holding the breath, tensing all my muscles for about five seconds before releasing the tension and exhaling simultaneously. 3. Going outside and just sitting down or standing up for a few minutes while watching people in the distance. The idea is, I suppose similar in some ways to Loving Kindness Meditation, where you're trying to think about others rather than yourself. Sláinte.
