I honestly do not know if you can "train" yourself to think like Sherlock Holmes. This analysis of his mind is on point but what you seem to be missing is that Sherlock Holmes is a victim of his own mind. He has ADHD. This is why he chooses not to focus on any other information and is very picky about what he learns. He knows that he can easily be distracted so he uses an ability that everyone with ADHD has which is to hyper-focus. This is why he is able to be keen about all the details. All the details ARE his distractions. People with ADHD cannot turn off their distractions but on the same token for a Neuro Typical (NT) person to think like Sherlock Holmes you are asking them to be distracted within the confines of a case. I would think that this would be as equally hard for an NT person to force themselves to be distracted as it would be and ADHD person to force themselves not to be distracted. You can try an emulate Sherlock Holmes and you may improve your observation ability but the reason Holmes is so successful is because he is drawn to these distractions by nature. How can an NT person "train" themselves to think like an ADHD person?

SJW - Watson brains. Biases, stereotypes ect exist for a reaon. To include them in a selection or exclusuon process can be very useful especially at beginning of investigation.

Mindfulness is not to keep your mind focused! What you just said is how to keep your mind concentrated on a particular object. On the other hand, mindfulness is to be aware of your surroundings and sensations in the present moment completely without effort, which means the mind is totally unfocused! This state flowers naturally with the practice of meditation.

I like these "How to think like ... " videos. I think you can do a breakdown of pretty much ANY character and get some cross-viewers to your channel. Some characters to consider: Tony Stark (Ironman), Einstein, Tesla, Musk, Steve Jobs, Ford, Frasier, etc...; this is how I became a subscriber.

Hi there PP, Love the channel and I have a question. I really enjoy the animation within your vids and I would like to have something similar for a channel I'm developing. I remember in one of your videos that you said a friend of yours helped with the animations etc,.. Thanks for all the great content and keep it coming! Oh, and definitely Jonny Lee Miller's version for me!

Would love a whole video only focused on the conept of mindfulnes - you're doing a great job of communicating what's really important in a simple way. Btw, this video makes it a whole lot more interesting to watch Sherlock as well - jsut started with the new season! / Alexander - have a great day:)

The new BBCs sherlock does in fact use correlation to do exactly what you said not to. By furs he can deduct that the subject owns a dog, because people don't just pick up random dog hairs in their daily routine. I understand that they could have picked it up from anywhere, but balance of probability must be taken in to account for such matters....

Hey, I've noticed this small language thing you do in almost every video and it is driving me crazy. You use the word 'DON'T'. There have been a few studies that show that using negative phrasing is less impactful, or sometimes has the opposite effect, then what the command of the sentence is. For example: "Don't fall victim to" is negatively phrased and could be rephrased to "Avoid falling victim to". I know it is small, but I've experienced the difference for myself and I urge you to look it up.

I have Aspergers, and this seems very similar to how I react to external stimulii, problem solving and such. I can take an age deciding from a menu from correlating all of the various possibilities and which might be the tastiest choice. One reason I think it's thought those on the spectrum have difficulty reading emotions is really that we have more difficulty determining between the general emotion (the one they want to show), the microexpressions and the spoken word. Also, sometimes an environment, person or situation can instantly and unexpectedly become an incredible sensory overload, and can be either welcome or thoroughly undeirable. I'd like to learn about some of the methods (CBT) I've heard can be used to help with social integration better (they're a new thing for me), as that's a segment of my life I think I could improve somewhat.
