The moment when kibler quits magic and started to play Hearth stone
Zach Saltzman (2 months ago)
Bill Joe (5 months ago)
Who is the third person on the team with LSV and Kibler?
Alex (8 months ago)
can somebody explain what happened to somebody who doesn't play magic? obviously he drew the exact card he needed to to win? was it a comeback?
Kurtis Kapahala (2 months ago)
I know this was a late response but I know sometimes it's nice to have that couriosity taken care of. In this card game there is a mechanic called "Miracle' in which some cards have that effect where if it was your first card drawn that turn you may reveal it as you draw it, and if you do it alowed the casting cost to generally be cut in half ( for most miracle cards ). The card Read 1 red mana + XX where you deal damage to your opponent and all of their creatures for the amount of X mana spent. If the card was Miracled ( first card drawn ) you only pay X instead of X twice, so it was the only card in his entire deck that he could have won the game with. The reason why so many players look bummed out and exicted, is because they are playing the very first world magic cup against the taiwanese team. LSV explains the situation well here starting at 11:45 of the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ee7Fz5p_DUI.

I feel bad for Kibler since you gave him Bonfire as his preview card for MM17.
Elemental (2 years ago)
jesus, miracle was a terrible mechanic.
dragoniguana (2 years ago)
Aaron Forsythe is standing there thinking to himself "we've made a huge mistake".
Sam Lives Here (3 years ago)
this is why kibler plays cardstone now
Christopher Arico (3 years ago)
Just the way LSV looks at Kibler. Priceless.

What the fuck did I just watch?

+RobMorane Some nerds playing a nerdy game and being really nerdy about it.
Agoonga (3 years ago)
I've never played MtG, but I have fapped to some of the card art before
Troy Moore (3 years ago)
Hate how he just held his hands out like that after he topdecked bonefire.  Like, "look at how good I am?" or something like that
Chris Germano (3 years ago)
Late reply I know, but I think it was more of "look at how frigging lucky I got".
Mike Smith (4 years ago)
I love that you can see how annoyed Kibler is, but he then composes himself and shakes, that's the reason he is still a good magic player, don't let it get to you.
Eamorayden (1 year ago)
Mike Smith I mean it's kind of the skill of just not being an asshat
Explore Games (4 years ago)
I used to play MTG a lot, and I haven't got a fucking clue what happened there.  Maybe if half the video wasn't an intro screen, you could have explained it instead?  Also, nothing explained in the description either.  You can't even see the cards being played I've watched a few of these videos, and I'm stunned at how inaccessible they are - commentary and descriptions are geared towards people that know every card, leaving everyone else lost.  Poker only involves 52 different cards, the same every time, and there's still more explanation of what's going on - learn from that.
LastOfUsClips (2 years ago)
basically the guy on the right drew the right card to win the game. it was a 'top deck' (getting the right card at the right time).
johnny gonzales (3 years ago)
+strakha0 no no no, the real point is that was taiwans only out. kibler was going to win next turn and he had to top deck that one card. Kibler just got very unlucky. thats why they are so disgusted with how things turned out. the played correctly to where the odds were in his favour but they both new america and taiwan that thats was the card. which was why the flipped it. its a whole other world if it was anything else.
Maximiliano Santander (4 years ago)
also that was the defining game of the match between USA and Taiwan, the winner went to play the finals that's why it is a dramatic moment (Taiwan ended up winning the whole thing)
Explore Games (4 years ago)
I don't have every card memorised either (there are 11,441 according to the MTG database), but I was able to look it up so I understand now, thanks. (P.S. Think that expansion was released after I stopped playing)

It's at 28 seconds in, just before the clip ends.

I didn't hear him say that.
Mark Talley (5 years ago)
This video is the epitome of why the miracle mechanic was terrible.
Mattman324 (1 year ago)
To be fair, in this particular instance, even if that card didn't have Miracle it would have killed him. He was at 3 life.
MSUHitman (3 years ago)
+Feakos Miracle was in Magic 4 years before Hearthstone existed.
Feakos (3 years ago)
Agreed - but miracle in MTG existed before HS :-) I meant that such a random mechanic was more HS style.
djgiga (3 years ago)
+Feakos Hearthstone already stole enough from magic, WOTC can take one thing lol
Feakos (3 years ago)
miracle belongs to Hearthstone
Ben Hipwell (5 years ago)
You can see the exact moment where Aaron Forsythe's heart rips in half
Andrew Lee (5 years ago)
Brian Kibler later said that he was at very low life but controlled the field with an Olivia Voldaren at like over 10 counters or something and could have swung for lethal next turn. But his Japanese opponents miracled a Bonfire and burned out the rest of his life.
Colgate Lampinen (1 year ago)
Japanese opponents?
Skizerz the Almighty (5 years ago)
I'm a noob at mtg, what exactly happened? i realize he drew bonfire and played it using Miracle, but is that all there is to this?
JupiterLounge (5 years ago)
Miracle is in flavor...so is morbid and Fateful hour
Elfrago87 (5 years ago)
lsv face is priceless
Tracy Gordon (5 years ago)
A top deck fireball would have been the same. Miracle is a great mechanic imo.
Garth Palmer (5 years ago)
Magic is a lot about luck, like Poker. you have to figure the odds of your opponent drawing things when they need them. the odds of drawing any specific card is about 6%, so thats the BEST chance you have of playing Bonfire at miracle cost. the odds are even worse when you consider how often you can rip a Bonfire off the top at the right moment, i.e. when you have a decent board presence enough to kill all their guys and swing for the win. thats why miracle cards really arent that good.
ZenRyoku (6 months ago)
Garth Palmer Werd! I was just commenting all about that in the last video i watched on another channel. 100% 💯
dragonbretheren (5 years ago)
This thread is pointless. The initial argument is that bonfire is unfair because it is somehow the end-all-be-all board wipe that "immediately wins regardless of the boardstate". ShinobiGarth presented a hypothetical board state that disproves this initial statement. Any further argument is like, to quote the Azorius, "much work [being] done to ensure nothing is accomplished".
MakeYoutubeGreatAgain (5 years ago)
Yes, they're playing Bonfire for 3 less mana, but they don't need than mana because X is already 3, which kills literally every creature in an aggro deck minus Thundermaw Hellkite. Frontline Medic doesn't get around Bonfire. It just isn't going to happen against any competent opponent.
Garth Palmer (5 years ago)
it makes them play Bonfire for 3 mana less than they would be able to normally which can be enough to make a difference. especially since you usually run Medic in an aggro deck in which case the game should be over by turn 6. seriously, Bonfire is not the be all end all spell. i dont even see many people running it anymore, besides its gonna rotate out very soon anyway so dont worry about it.
MakeYoutubeGreatAgain (5 years ago)
Frontline Medic literally can't stop a Bonfire past turn 6 against Jund if they Farseek. Miracle Bonfire, X=3, tap 4 of 7 lands. Sac Medic, they tap the other 3/7 lands, nullifying your Medic's ability. And if you get the bright idea to sac a second Frontline Medic, then you're just doing the Bonfire's job for it by killing off your own creatures. So much for your "Bonfire Hardcounter". You're better off splashing blue for Negate than sacrificing Medics.
Garth Palmer (5 years ago)
check out Medic's 2nd ability ;)
xSnarfsx (5 years ago)
Yeesh....you have to think after you read. I've watched it played in many games. The fact that I don't have first hand experience with the card was prove I had no bias against the thing. Usually you have to work harder to get effects as swingy as bonfire, the thing is really powerful. Also why do you think it was one of the most expensive cards during it's life in standard? Also, why are you such a bitch? The other guy overstated it's powe, but you didn't need to be an ass about it.
MakeYoutubeGreatAgain (5 years ago)
Regardless of board state? I'm pretty sure ripping Bonfire of the top turns 1-2 isn't going to win you the game. Not to mention your own side of the board has to be developed enough to capitalize on a Miracle Bonfire. Bonfire is a strong card. Make no mistake, it is very good. But it is not even CLOSE to being an instant top- deck win as soon as you draw it at any point in the game. If Bonfire was THAT strong, it would be seeing MUCH more play than just a couple Standard decks alone.
MakeYoutubeGreatAgain (5 years ago)
Frontline Medic only makes your creatures Indestructible during your turn. Bonfire of the Damned is a Sorcery, meaning it can only be cast when Frontline Medic isn't giving your creatures Indestructible.
MakeYoutubeGreatAgain (5 years ago)
So, right off the bat you're saying you have literally no experience with the card you're trying to argue a point over, meaning anything you have to say about it is completely without base and/or substance. Interesting. No reason to waste my time with someone who even admits they have no idea what they're talking about whatsoever.
Garth Palmer (5 years ago)
good thing theres this cool guy now called Frontline Medic who kicks Bonfire right in the nuts.
xSnarfsx (5 years ago)
You're wrong...read bonfire...watch decks play with it. It was clearly over powered. This is coming from someone who doesn't play constructed really so I've never actually lost to the card. You're wrong lol...

WasItTehChad (5 years ago)
nope.... but it will damn sure help you get there
S1KN3SSxZ (5 years ago)
You dont win tournaments like that off luck
MakeYoutubeGreatAgain (5 years ago)
If you want to complain about dying to Bonfire topdecks, complain about everything else that can do it as well, otherwise, shush.
MakeYoutubeGreatAgain (5 years ago)
Boo hoo, you die to a top-deck Bonfire of the Damned. It's not like you wouldn't have died to a top-deck Volcanic Geyser, Rakdos' Return, Aurelia's Fury, Clan Defiance, or Devil's Play, either. Nope, you have to complain about Bonfire because it's the cool thing to do. There's plenty of other X cost burn spells in Standard that people could top-deck to kill you, but nah, not gonna complain about dying to one of those. Go lose to more Bonfires, you whiny sheep.
It was a top-deck win, which can be made with a fair amount of cards, and it doesn't always win you the game either.
The decks are randomly shuffled, you don't draw anything based on how skilled you are.
ALL Magic victories and losses are based on luck
ZenRyoku (6 months ago)
James Czerwik-Hampshire Haha...yeah...sure....just like Poker is only "luck" Preparation, and how one constructs their decks to work in a specific mechanical fashion is a skill in of itself... If you ever played a game with me, id show you more skill-based variables that you wouldn't even know they were happening...lol

ugh miracles, so annoying...

lol best moment in magic
Modestas Malakauskas (5 years ago)
This is one of those moments where million stories can be seen on each of the person's faces. You can watch the video like 20 times and see something new.
Annsy Zhang (5 years ago)
It dosent matter in the end because brian kibler is extremely handsome
Hernandezzy09 (5 years ago)
I guess that shows what kind of a sport you'd be in this situation. The guys showed sportsmanship for shaking their opponents' hands. Even though they were pissed, they still mustered up enough dignity to be respectful.
Hernandezzy09 (5 years ago)
You can't argue there's a good amount of luck involved in Magic. That's exactly what "Top Decking" comes down to.

yeah, his bottom lip just drops a bit and he looks at team usa immediately
IvanMTG1 (5 years ago)
yes just was joking about him actually thinking that. =) but u can tell they were all so shocked and upset. losing to a single card =\
Will Crase (5 years ago)
This is exactly why Jund in standard is complete bullshit. That whole deck is about slamming random OP cards on the table and winning.
afromime (5 years ago)
Can someone explain what's happening? All I can see is LSV's majestic stash.
WasItTehChad (5 years ago)
LSV's pornstache is not impressed

ToWingsMyFriend (5 years ago)
Not every card has to be skill testing. Chill out.
A Rhino Turtle (5 years ago)
dat stash
He should, because he won the game fair and square, he built his deck to draw that card.
hardrockfreak1337 (5 years ago)
Kibler was atually behind the whole game and had just regained control the previous turn. The only card that would lose him the game was the bonfire. You know the rest.
Spike vs Timmy (5 years ago)
So it was a topdecked fireball then...bonfire of hte damned is awesome when you top it but you HAVE to play it, in this position it was VERY strong, but in others you don't want to cast it and it fills the hand up. Personally I can't wait for it to leave...but thats coz I never got a playset really - Timmy
IvanMTG1 (5 years ago)
oof. brutal. but that's magic. did anyone else see LSV look diorectly at Kibler when that happened? He's like, "you caused this, die!" lol
Dylan Doyle (5 years ago)
Takes skill to get in the position where that will win, especially against Kibler.
weesh (5 years ago)
thanks for giving us ZERO context to this one
Chris Suda (5 years ago)
Just because you lose doesn't mean you should be an ass about it. Yeah they got lucky in a card game, but you should always shake your opponents hand.
emangamer (5 years ago)
The real person you need to be watching in this video is aaron forsythe. It was at THAT EXACT MOMENT that he realized that miracles was a terrible mechanic and shouldnt have been made. He said it himself.
naejin (5 years ago)
First time, I've heard the sounds of their voices from this clip. Ironic choice of words for Kibler.
R R Leonetti (5 years ago)
topdecked bonfire of the damned if i remember correctly
