When and Why would he re-raise with pocket 9s?
26bisket (8 months ago)
well if the raiser if somebody who has been a little bit aggressive at least, you probably have the best hand and want more chips in there........also if something like an ace hits the flop, your opponent will be scared you have an ace (if he doesnt have one himself), because your raising pre-flop represents an ace a good amount of the time......you'll get folds a lot in that scenario and just take down the pot right then and there....also your hand is disguised if you hit a 9.....you should have a pretty balanced strategy of just calling, and choosing to re-reraise, with hands like 9's, 10s, jacks............ queens, kings, aces, ace king.......you should do more re-raising, with the occasional just call.

Host totally doesn't even understand Phil Gordon's mumbo jumbo. lol. Just keeps nodding and saying "Right, uh huh" like he gets it. This content is worthless.

Tim gets this shit boy, dont worry
Dan Means (2 years ago)
Robert Riggins you think tim ferriss doesn't understand what this guy is talking about? you should watch more tim ferriss stuff. not trying to start an argument but for real tim is a sharp guy. he understands what's being said.

Tim Ferris is the future. This is a movement that is worth getting an early perspective. If I'm wrong then the world truly is my oyster! Those who know will understand, those who don't will learn from the rest of us when we become gods! Mwahahahahah!
Nicholas Arnott (2 years ago)
You speak the truth.
Jackson Lenhart (2 years ago)
Lol at no discussion of draws. Phil Gordon was a poor choice for this video. Way oversimplified to the point of being unhelpful and even incorrect.
NOyaPara (2 years ago)
Pot comittment after raising preflop and not hitting anything, pocket pairs, depth of stack all this must be taken in account and im probably missing half of the things. If you play against an agressive player he will raise you to the point where you lose all your chips on bluffing. Also if you are talking hats up (since this scenario he is talking about is with 2 players) than you have to take the nash equilibrium into account.
Jackson Lenhart (2 years ago)
There are plenty of hands that most players will continue with on the flop that are less than one pair. Also, is a straight draw a "whiff"? How about a flush draw?
Mark Warner (2 years ago)
Am curious how this was incorrect. Can you explain?
rockywrakun (2 years ago)
Wow, so I should consider what hand my opponent might have? Deep insights here. We can all see you, Tim, trying to hide your frustration with this silly man's seven minute diatribe about perspective taking.
DGMUSICisGOOD (2 years ago)

There are 15 types of Poker. Why not clarify what type in the title? I know most of the people here are Hold Em fanatics, but I'm old school.

Mr. Timothy Ferriss, most of your friends call you Tim, I know. I'd love to see you interview yourself. I know that it would take quite a bit more of a production work, BUT, if you were to interview Tim Ferriss...how would a podcast conversation with him go? Also, Tim, I love The Tim Ferriss Experiment. Big, massive kudos to you for doing the stuff you did and the another special massive kudos for making a show of it as well! (Y) <3 - Soorena :)

Lang7 (3 years ago)
+Lei YAO Sitting down with some chips at a high stakes game does not mean you're a good player. Phil Gordon hasn't been considered a "good" high stakes pro for about a decade now.
Lei YAO (3 years ago)
+John Smith He is Phil Gordon. One of the poker pros who play high stakes often.
Gonçalo Hall (3 years ago)
The person I would like to see you interviewing the most is.. Barack Obama! What a show.. Maybe in a couple of years when he+s no longer the president. Please make it happen :)
Local Guide (3 years ago)
2:28 - what a great lesson in 2015! Maybe 15 years ago this was a revelation but now even an NL2 player knows this stuff!
naihanchin Kempo (3 years ago)
people rarely fold flush draws with qka or same straight draws
Heather Lane (3 years ago)
This would have been good in 2003 Phil Gordon is way behind actual profitable pros from this decade.
Trent Wildrick (3 years ago)
Hey Tim, can you get Jordan Harbinger from the Art of Charm on the podcast? I would love to hear him being interviewed
