Thank you so much for this video. I started meditation in June 2016. In the beginning is difficult for me to sit and concentrate, as time goes I tried different various method. I love walking meditation, that is very effective, that greatly depend on the weather too. Currently I am using the positive affirmations method, repeat the phrase for example 'I am successful' and it really works great for me. I am trying to do it on a daily basis now.

Mantras in TM are NOT keyed to your “personality” they are a set of nonsense words, and your mantra is chosen based on your age and gender. If you’re a male who learned TM at age 25, and meet someone else who is a male who learned TM at age 25, you’ll have the same mantra. Not saying it doesn’t work wonders, just saying that the mantras aren’t magical. You can use literally any nonsense word.

TM has a radically different effect on the brain. By the way, the offering is NOT to the founder of TM, but to the guru of the founder of TM, and simply watching that ritual, it turns out, puts you [and the teacher] in a TM-like state, which makes learning [and teaching] TM more effective: Higher theta and alpha1 coherence when listening to Vedic recitation compared to coherence during Transcendental Meditation practice. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28214765 TM's most dramatic effects are found in people who are really stressed, like veterans with PTSD. There's a group of people who are even MORE dramatically stressed: homeless, drug-addicted child prostitutes living on the streets of Medellin, Colombia. They are called the "disposable ones" and this documentary is about a Roman Catholic priest who teaches them TM as therapy for PTSD: http://www.cutv.ws/play/8239/Saving-the-Disposable-Ones Compare their lives starting at 15: 30 with what they are like after months of hard work when the priest deems them ready to learn TM. For maximum contrast, look at the poor child just after 17: 30 with a child from similar circumstances just after at TM session at 50: 00. You've never seen a transformation like that before in your life and neither has anyone else in the world. The full "after" picture is found in this video where every child was a gang member forced to murder someone as an initiation rite, or a child-rebel forced to slaughter people at gunpoint, or a homeless, drug-addicted child-prostitute — only 6-18 months before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoKEUV4Ivwo The transformation is so overwhelming that the Roman Catholic Church asked the head of the David Lynch Foundation to give a 30 minute talk at the Vatican: Impacting Children’s Health Through Meditation Globally https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVCQJl1XVmg&t=230s Ask Rick Rubin why he supports the David Lynch Foundation. He'll tell you it is because of literally one million anecdotes like the above — the DLF has taught TM for free to one million "at risk" children like the ones in those videos. Mindfulness takes months for results. TM often shows results in the above groups DURING their first meditation session. TM isn't really a technique. It is an intuitive practice imparted by people who rehearse a teaching play for 5 months. That you didn't realize this only shows how naturally the play is performed, but the physical effect on the brain from TM is 180 degrees degrees opposite than from the mindfulness practices you were describing, and the result from TM is often radically faster and in the long-run, radically different, than from mindfulness, as well. TM instruction is now mandated in all public schools in 7 Latin American countries on a state or even national level. You don't see that happening with mindfulness because mindfulness simply doesn't have the same effects on kids in poverty, certainly not overnight or within a few weeks. https://lasol.org/en/results.html

I see read about a lot of people having practiced TM for 40 or 45 years, giving them lots of calmness and energy which is great. But none of them actually mentions higher states of consciousness in daily life, or awakening say like Eckart Tolle for example. Seeing reality for what it actually is, becoming fully present! This leads me believe that this form of Meditation which differs from all other forms of meditation is as Osho has previous said, just a deep state of rest and nothing more. This is a concern if one want's to develop spiritually!
J G (4 months ago)
R D This is about utilitarian meditation for health. Not for spiritual development.

When evaluating the possible causes of different outcomes in regards to effective meditation, there were some very valid points made. Great Video Tim, I'm a huge fan.

TM is a scam. Meditation should not cost you a penny. Don't pay any amount of money to "learn" meditation from Caucasian "teachers" full of shit.

LOVE the 3 breath idea. I tell people to meditate for 10 seconds. That's it. This way developing the daily habit is easy. This is how I started out in April 2017. I'd be OK with 10 seconds but would end up meditating for 3-7 minutes most of the time. I've meditated daily since then and am now at 30 minutes per day within multiple sessions.

So I havee started meditating this week and I immediately felt diffeerences. I really don´t know, whether I am doing it right or not, but I just sit down, close my eyes, listening to meditation music and just focus on my breathing for 10 minutes. Now, where it is weekend and I didn´t meditate I immediately feel more stressed, so I will do that every morning for a while and see where it goes

Great insight as usual. Blows my mind that people are still very resistant to it. I think the posture and the breathing are both important. Assuming a power pose and holding a smile for a a few minutes induces a chemical response that literally changes an emotional state. I always tell people start small and don’t judge the practice. Have been following Tara Brach for many years and have used several of her meditations offered on her Podcast very successfully including the more specific acceptance practices etc. the Headspace has been great, especially for accountability. Signed up about 9 months ago and have used it daily every since. Not sure if you’ve seen my question on Instagram but I appreciate you explaining the TM a little bit more in depth. Would you recommend investing that type of money to someone who is already doing it 20 minutes of meditation or more daily? Also, does a mantra have to be one short word or can one use several simple sentences? I started repeating general simple affirmations that I repeat for a few minutes at the end of my session that puts me in the elevated state. Thanks!

I used to mediate with the Vishen Lakhiani's Six phase meditation. It lasts about 20 minutes, so maybe it will be too much for beginners; but, it really provokes all the positive effects a meditation session should have. You all should try it, today I will try to retake the practice of meditating everyday. It is also free and you can listen to to it via its app: Omvana.
I hope you realize that by pushing yourself more and more, one day the pendulum will swing the other way too.

So this guy has seemingly dedicated his entire life to learning how to be better at pretty much everything. So what is he exceptionally good at, other than teaching people how to be good at various things? In some sense, he's not really good at anything; he's just passing information along? In other words, he spends a lot of time (all his time) teaching people how to accomplish feats. Has he accomplished any feats of his own?
David Bakino (8 months ago)
Why would everybody have to fit your description of a world where people can either only be mediocre OR masters at one thing ? Why can't there be people who are kinda jack-of-all-trades? Just take the value he has to offer and accept the world as it is, a place of infinite diversity of people, skills and natural talents ;)
