For anyone scared of the strings snapping, i put a cloth piece on top of all the strings, so if it snaps, the cloth stops the strings from flying

This video did not help me, it broke me a string, the guy goes to fast.

1. Unless you're doing something else besides just changing strings, change one string at a time, (this helps to keep the neck straight and holds the intonation longer). 2. When you remove a string, use a lead pencil on the nut grooves so your strings slide easier and aren't prone to hanging, for better in-tune playing. 3. Put three finger under the string once you get it past the nut, two fingers for the G and D strings due them being furthest away), before putting the STRINGS into the peg winders, to give yourself enough string length for a couple of winds around the peg before the string is in tuning range. 4. Put the pegs with the holes facing horizontal to the guitar as your looking down the neck. Put the string in so it has to turn at a 90 degree angle, then turn up away from the guitar, bring the string back, then go under the string and bring upward and over, then tighten. Then start winding the string tighter, (always towards the inner part of the guitar. This will give you a nice loop that will keep the string from slipping. 5. Bend about a half inch of the excess wound strings up top before you cut them, so they don't unravel. (I actually do this to all of them just to keep in the habit) 6.Tune & Play - Enjoy!

The string rotation thing. What you call that?
Jovando HK (11 days ago)
don't ask me
ANGELofDEATH uk (16 days ago)
All good apart from cutting the strings first, it's safer to cut them after in case you don't have enough excess string to wind around.
Extremerecluse Fallows (18 days ago)
How do you remove the string if it is run through the tuning peg hole?
jeff cracknell (21 days ago)
That's nice so you put new strings on a filthy fretboard? Changing your strings is a great opportunity to clean your guitar.
This is the best way I saw in youtube. Thank you so much ,,,

Put the string on download the fender tuner app open the app go to auto tuner and start with the E turn it until it gets a little tight then go from there the 1st E the tuner gets to is the one you want if your on the e string and the tuner says its A then you tightened it to much repeat the process for each string E A D G B A

What if I want to take them all off. I want to paint my guitar and i'll have to take all the strings off to do so. I need to sand back the varnish in order to apply a base layer and do the art on top before re-applying varnish. There's no way I want to do all of that around strings. Is there a way to keep the tension whilst I do all of that?
David miorgan (2 months ago)
I guess that's one way! The fender way! But please foks don't do this to a expensive Martin or Gibson! One string at a time, and tune the new string as you go! Never make huge changes to the necks of really fine guitars, subject them to the least changes you can make! Fifty years of ownership of the finest Martin, Gibson acoustic guitars!

4:06 - "So I'm not gonna tune em to pitch right now.. I just wanna get enough tension on 'em.. and I'll go back to tune em and stretch em later." *doesn't show you the tuning and stretching process*
Kyle McClanahan (8 days ago)
Martin Carlton hey you can read too! Can you listen as well? Because I’m referring to a direct quote the gentleman made about something he said he would show but didn’t :)
Martin Carlton (8 days ago)
The title of the video is "how to change acoustic guitar strings". Not how to stretch and tune.
ANGELofDEATH uk (16 days ago)
Wind each string to a reasonable tension as you put them on. Once all 6 new strings are on tune them all to E,A,D,G,B,E from top down then just play some chords for a couple of minutes and then re-tune all strings. Do this a few times until they stay in tune. Hope this helps

Thank you. My guitar string turned out great!
Hexosan17 Gaming (3 months ago)
I would not advise following the instructions in this video. It is well known that you should have the string wind over the first part of the string on the tuning peg, then every other wind below. Also, why would you want to cut the string BEFORE winding? That is not a good idea. Always wait until after winding to cut the string, and allow some slack that measures about 1 fret before winding. At least he doesn't cut all the strings at once, but still you should only do one string at a time no matter what guitar it is.

No detail of unwound strings brah
Maximman102 n (3 months ago)
He didn't even wind it back up right, you need to pick up some of the slack from it before you put it in the peg
scott spencer (3 months ago)
Relieve tension on all strings.. remove all strings.. clean neck..frets..and use a good wood oil on feet board and s tail stock.. clean head and tuning pins.. then start to restring. After all strings on on and snug. begin tuning . play guitar..re tune and replete.

do you really need a string winder? And do it by hand?
JD Gaming (3 months ago)
+Nate’s Reviews thank you
Nate’s Reviews (3 months ago)
JD Gaming no. You can do it by hand and you can get a roadie tuner and put it on string winder mode and then you get a tuner and a string winder.

Technique worked great! Make sure when you guys do this you keep the string baggy and loose and not fully stretched to the max before winding.

Is there an alternative to a string winder? Edit: Also, what is the best string for playing loud? My guitar’s stock set sounds really dull when I try to play loud, and I have to replace the high E string which broke.

Tried following this, it's driving me crazy. The minute I start trying to turn the tuner with the string inside, the string just fires back out.

I started to go towards being upset with you at first for not showing the basic string changing that was handed down from my musical heritage... Well you not only showed a faster prompt way but still come through with showing the basics of how they go back on and wound properly.  We actually were dispatched to a call yrs. back where two so called friends were in a serious fight over disagreeing of how to put guitar strings on properly..Goes to show you not every one that plays knows how to string a guitar. Any way thank you. You did help.
Danimal1978 (7 months ago)
is it really necessary to use the same bridge pin again on the same string? i just grab them randomly and put them on with any string

Uhhh one of my peg things broke
J Urry (7 months ago)
I was tracking pretty well up until that last bit of "oh, by the way" detail about overlapping the strings that are unwound but not overlapping the strings that are wound? That completely spooked me into finding a different instructional video.
