the end of string should be under the wounds so it will stay in turn

Me: already took of all the strings. Video starts: only change 2 strings at the same time. Me: -_-
Travieso Hombre (2 days ago)
Depends on how tight the truss rod is. Personally I only change one string at a time, bring the new string up to tune before going to the next. For the sake of a few minutes more (if that) you avoid possible repercussions.
Claymore77 (26 days ago)
I can't believe so many of you have so much trouble with changing strings. I changed my first set at 12 years old with literally no experience whatsoever and no video tutorials to help me. The lack of common sense in society anymore is incredibly disturbing.

Why two strings at a time instead of just one? Wouldn't one at a time be even less of an unnecessary change in tension?

John Trevena (2 months ago)
only RICH kids get bought fenders who inturn dont know how to restring, slightly sand the bridge and/or nut. and fret 1st and last fret on the string and it should show a straight line the length of the neck, now u can check how TRUE it is,, and fender use a smaller than usual hex key for the truss rod, carefull easily rounded and I think fender wants this... other than that I love my SONORAN..
Mohammad Quamrul Islam (2 months ago)
When your string snaps off the guitar then that is scary

Some negative comments here, but I followed the steps and I have found that I've not done a better job, of restringing an acoustic gtr, since I watched this video. Thank you.

One of the worst tutorials I've ever seen. Next time take time to actually explain it slowly for people who don't know the lingo.
maraker08 (2 months ago)
I never ever change string like that. too risk to messed when winding. I winding 3-5 turn first , then push it all the through to hole between last and seconds last winding, then string is locked and can't slip off. not need cut at all . That video method can cut high e string if machine head hole round is sharp. But if goto between last and second last wind then winds not press string to hole round. So first rounding 3-5 wind then goto hole between last and seconds last string. that is. always works nice.
maraker08 (2 months ago)
One other TIP. If moving new string little up and down multiple times in top nut, Your new string not stuck in nut hole !, Tune stay :)
maraker08 (2 months ago)
And I never cut strings when removing string. I can use those used strings again somewhere else if needed or using backup string.
maraker08 (2 months ago)
like that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyOojQhIQ58 but between last and seconds last wind. It is lot of better way to put new string, faster, safer, no cut , BEST

Hi thanks for the video, i'm just starting to play guitar, fender play is helping me a lot, so today i changed my first strings and im happy to say i went fairly well....until i watched this video, on minute 1:37 when you removed the bridge posts you did it in a organized way keeping the same post for each string, when i removed all strings i put the post all together, now they are all out of order, can you please tell if that's gonna be a problem???

For anyone scared of the strings snapping, i put a cloth piece on top of all the strings, so if it snaps, the cloth stops the strings from flying

This video did not help me, it broke me a string, the guy goes to fast.

1. Unless you're doing something else besides just changing strings, change one string at a time, (this helps to keep the neck straight and holds the intonation longer). 2. When you remove a string, use a lead pencil on the nut grooves so your strings slide easier and aren't prone to hanging, for better in-tune playing. 3. Put three finger under the string once you get it past the nut, two fingers for the G and D strings due them being furthest away), before putting the STRINGS into the peg winders, to give yourself enough string length for a couple of winds around the peg before the string is in tuning range. 4. Put the pegs with the holes facing horizontal to the guitar as your looking down the neck. Put the string in so it has to turn at a 90 degree angle, then turn up away from the guitar, bring the string back, then go under the string and bring upward and over, then tighten. Then start winding the string tighter, (always towards the inner part of the guitar. This will give you a nice loop that will keep the string from slipping. 5. Bend about a half inch of the excess wound strings up top before you cut them, so they don't unravel. (I actually do this to all of them just to keep in the habit) 6.Tune & Play - Enjoy!

don't ask me
ANGELofDEATH uk (4 months ago)
All good apart from cutting the strings first, it's safer to cut them after in case you don't have enough excess string to wind around.
Extremerecluse Fallows (4 months ago)
How do you remove the string if it is run through the tuning peg hole?
creff dracknell (4 months ago)
That's nice so you put new strings on a filthy fretboard? Changing your strings is a great opportunity to clean your guitar.

Put the string on download the fender tuner app open the app go to auto tuner and start with the E turn it until it gets a little tight then go from there the 1st E the tuner gets to is the one you want if your on the e string and the tuner says its A then you tightened it to much repeat the process for each string E A D G B A

Bt truely Ibanez sounds more nice than fender and yemaha series S-2014 so I didn't named fender.. but Ibanez is much costlier comparitive to fender and yemaha series S-2014..

What if I want to take them all off. I want to paint my guitar and i'll have to take all the strings off to do so. I need to sand back the varnish in order to apply a base layer and do the art on top before re-applying varnish. There's no way I want to do all of that around strings. Is there a way to keep the tension whilst I do all of that?
David miorgan (5 months ago)
I guess that's one way! The fender way! But please foks don't do this to a expensive Martin or Gibson! One string at a time, and tune the new string as you go! Never make huge changes to the necks of really fine guitars, subject them to the least changes you can make! Fifty years of ownership of the finest Martin, Gibson acoustic guitars!

Kyle McClanahan (4 months ago)
Martin Carlton hey you can read too! Can you listen as well? Because I’m referring to a direct quote the gentleman made about something he said he would show but didn’t :)
Martin Carlton (4 months ago)
The title of the video is "how to change acoustic guitar strings". Not how to stretch and tune.
ANGELofDEATH uk (4 months ago)
Wind each string to a reasonable tension as you put them on. Once all 6 new strings are on tune them all to E,A,D,G,B,E from top down then just play some chords for a couple of minutes and then re-tune all strings. Do this a few times until they stay in tune. Hope this helps
