Cool Video Gabriel... Interesting, how in their trains the seats are along the windows rather than facing forward or back like in a Bus.. Nice Cable car ride.. Safe Travels *Greg*

hmmm,... it is raining,... why don't you use an umbrella?! ,,, I don't understand this.
Gabriel Traveler (4 months ago)
+hachidori 106 Sounds great!
hachidori 106 (4 months ago)
+Gabriel Traveler definitely Hokkaido,... Hakodate is a really interesting cosmopolitan city (the airport is bilingual Japanese and Russian), the seafood is fresher than in Tokyo and people are more friendly.
Gabriel Traveler (4 months ago)
Thanks, yes I'd love to go back to Japan and see more places the next time. Definitely Hokkaido, it sounds really interesting.
hachidori 106 (4 months ago)
+Gabriel Traveler hi! ... I really enjoy your channel, thank you for the videos! ... I'm wondering if you will go back to Japan? ... Aomori Prefecture (Oirase Keiryu, Lake Towada) and Hokkaido (Hakodate and Noboribetsu) are really nice.
Gabriel Traveler (4 months ago)
I use a rain jacket instead, which folds up small inside my backpack. Thanks for watching!

Amazing train journey. All that green, wet, beautiful landscape and music was magical (for me at least). Keep on traveling and sharing all the wonderful sights and sounds of the world. Watching me go through your videos, my 9 year old is getting little interested too in your vlogs (who knows someday he will follow in your footstep and travel the world with a Gopro, backpack and camping gear)

You make me want to get off my fat ass and go outside and walk around the park - which is just behind my back yard - and become adventurous like you. But nah - I'll get another donut and watch your next video. I'm subscribed!
Gabriel Traveler (6 months ago)
Cool, enjoy the exploring. Gotta start somewhere!
Sione Hefa (6 months ago)
Gabriel you the man! Never thought I get a reply from "The Uploader". I shall put away the donuts and take the walk. Thanks and I really enjoy the videos. BTW my ass aint really fat just gravity challenged. :) Stay well.
Gabriel Traveler (6 months ago)
Get a donut and then go for a walk! Or just watch my videos, either way. :)

No need to stress on trains in Japan. The Hyperdia app is all you need. Get complete information. There are also some cool apps specifically for subway in Tokyo, but honestly, those are pretty straightforward too. The only trick is to pay attention to your track number, lest you start off in the wrong direction (trust me)

Was the bus from cable car/funicular including in your train ticket fare?
Gabriel Traveler (8 months ago)
Yes, it was all one ticket that I bought in Osaka, including the funicular.
marco brenni (8 months ago)
Japan seems like Switzerland: clean, with polite people, always on "standby", fakly friendly and also boring and disciplinate as Swiss are. Anyway, thanks for loading from Switzerland!

Thanks bro. I slept in the redwoods by UCSC for a week once while visiting my brother who went to university there. Back in my traveling '90s days. Visited there other times as well as family lives there. I practiced surfing at the easy spot next to Steamer's Lane, forget what it's called.

Hi, love to watch your adventures. One quick question do you pick where you go? Or does somewhere call out to you and you just go? I mean was it the cable car that called out to you? Or did you find out about this when you researched it? Keep on vlogging.
Gabriel Traveler (9 months ago)
Hi, thanks. I decide where to go based on reading in my guidebook and hearing about suggestions, etc. Then I figure out how to get there.

HI Gabriel, your trip to Japan is one of my most expected since I´ve followed you, thanks for sharing! I was wondering: would it be possible to have someone (wish I could do it) draw an animated map of your trips around the globe since day one? not only I´m sure it´ll be brilliant to display and show, but it´ll shed a light of your current (mind blowing) mileage and video-hours uploaded work so far, that we are certain will also help to support a foreseen Guinness record you well deserve. PD: Yes, I´m enclined to think that was rice too ha ha, wish I could try that Sake too, did it once and it was like airy sweet spirited vodka indeed. Cheers. looking forward for Tokyo impressions!
Sameer K (9 months ago)
Thanks for showing Japan
Wilfredo Torres (9 months ago)
Hi Gabriel, I'm surprise the arrow was pointing to the train you needed to take even though it was a little confusing. I must admit it seems worth taking that trip to the Koyasan, small mountain town weather not cooperating. The room is more comfortable than those bunk beds in Osaka, that was to cramped.
JanPogiMan (9 months ago)
GABRIEL.. nice change to see you in Japan.
Kevin Duval (9 months ago)
Hi Gabriel.. The English translations on Station/ train info system is a welcomed assistance, I bet 😉 In your opinion is rail travel reasonable value for money? comparing with main stream Europe, for example..
I admire your resourcefulness.

I've watched so many Japan videos and they all do the same shit, but you've managed to make a vlog from Japan feel new, at least to me! Those empty train rides were like real life Miyasaki movie scenes!

I lived in Japan for 2 years. Loving this series. My favorite in all of Japan is the Higashiyama district of Kyoto. Specifically the shops along Matsubara Dori and the temples there. All within walking distance.

I travelled Japan for a month. I saved a lot of money on transportation by using all sort of Japan Rail Pass. For expample, u can use kansai thru pass to Koyashan that includes buses and train. Also check out http://www.japanrailpass.net/en/. I hope this will save you more money to stay longer in Japan

Is this a subway or a train?
Gabriel Traveler (9 months ago)
Yeah really, it was more like a subway car. I guess the local trains are like that. Today I ended up taking a regular train. There are different kinds.

J Rod the ILLegal (9 months ago)
Gabe, I was one of your viewers that requested you to go to Japan, remember back last year? Are you headed to Aokigahara forest by any chance? Aokigahara is a place for suicides and it is haunted.
Gabriel Traveler (9 months ago)
We'll see where I end up. Could be interesting.
J Rod the ILLegal (9 months ago)
Hi Gabe, Paul popularized the place; but I was cognizant about the Japan suicide forest before he ever went there, because I've been following upon and researching the paranormal field of study and 'the otherside' for quite a while now. It is needless to say that it has been a mind blowing experience thus far.
Gabriel Traveler (9 months ago)
Is that the one Logan Paul went to? Not sure it would be the best idea for my channel! Actually I'm sure it would be okay but it seems a little creepy to go back and show the same place he went, even if I didn't show any bodies.
Richard Fee (9 months ago)
Great footage and perfect music. Thanks..

When I was three years old, my grandparents had a Japanese student live with them for a couple of years. It was the first time I understood there was such a thing as other countries and cultures. I love Japan. It’s incredible. It’s pretty cool to see through your lens! Such a great country. 👍🏼✌🏼
Karin B (9 months ago)
J Rod the ILLegal Yeah, of course. She attended a high school in Wisconsin.

Koyasan is famous for 1000 year Japanese Buddhist vegan food called Shojin Ryori Cuisine, or Shojin Cuisine, that uses a lot of Japan only fermented ingredients. I am not vegan myself, but they are very tasty. If you are still there, I advise you to eat it.
Karin B (9 months ago)
August Hayek That’s good to know! I’m a vegan and gluten free, too. I often wonder if I’ll ever be able to travel and eat anywhere... I was just thinking about this when watching and then read this comment. Very cool!

A few comments. Firstly, I am loving this trip already. I love that you don't know what it is that you are eating. That is the mark of a true adventurer. Secondly, you said that you were Travel Weary after your last foreign trip but you seem to have made a swift recovery from that illness. Thirdly, WTF is with the porn movie music on the footage of the funicular? Lol. Seriously though Gabriel, I love your videos.

It warms my heart you went to where I grew up (3 years old to 9 years old). My parents were missionaries and our house in Hashimoto was just above the short tunnel you went through before you arrived in Hashimoto. The house is no longer there (there's another house there now). The train used to go along the river and for many years the railroad (it's a private railroad built specifically to go to Koyasan) wanted to buy the property right below our house so they could put a tunnel through. The family that lived there (Nakaoka's) wouldn't sell until the parents passed. Then the kids sold the property to the railroad. My best friend, Kasuhiko Nakaoka, was killed in his early 20's while working for a Japanese oil company in Malaysia many years ago. He and two other geologists were attacked by bandits in their jungle compound one night. Sad. I go back there now and then. It's changed tremendously from when I was a kid in the 60's but it's still a sleepy town. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Gary Wilson What an incredible comment! How cool that’s where you lived for a time. So sad about the friend, though. What a beautiful place to spend part of one’s childhood.

Might be too late, but staying in a monastery is a cool experience while there (can a tad pricy, though it includes two meals). Anyways I don't want to be the advice guy, I'm sure you've done some reading : )

Love your work as always. Not been to Japan yet, so enjoying this series from you. At 10:33, it looks similar to Aguas Caliente in Peru, where there is a rushing river right next to the train station.

I was wondering if walking around w/ your camera attracts less attention in Japan than other countries. It seem to me Japanese people are really into photography when they travel
Gabriel Traveler (9 months ago)
Yeah they don't seem to notice it too much. Sure they notice, but aren't that surprised or bothered. Everyone else is talking or filming with a phone or camera anyway.
Andrew Flyer (9 months ago)
Subway in Japan seems to be like subway in Korea. People are polite and line up to get on, so respectful. For anyone who travels through Asia, 7-11 is cheap and offers pretty good food :)
