Hi ,big like for this video, but the laces are too long.I think 70 cm laces are perfect ,in this video you have 80-90 cm laces.

Antonio, I've seen some people say that dress shoe laces should be tucked in after tying them... always. To me, it seems like it would make more sense to reserve tucked laces for more formal shoes like oxfords. But it should still come down to choice. I've seen many people wear un-tucked laces on oxfords and it looks just fine. I wanted to know what is your opinion on tucking the laces?

I use the bunny ears way. But I cross the left loop over the right loop. And I always have a straight knot.

TPTW (the so-called elite) have a special way of tying their shoelaces to recognise each other by. Don't ask me what it looks like, however. It's merely something I heard once.

Looks nicer but laces getting untied during the day; never had that

Looks like being left-handed was good for something at least, tying laces always felt natural doing it the 'correct' way in this video already.

wow this video has changed my life- if only you knew the number of times in a day I had to retie my shoe laces and walk around with such an awkward knot -_- Not knowing that my problem was that my left lace was always ocer my right one in the first knot haha. You sir, have won yourself a new subscriber!!!

Ugh, I still get a granny knot :(
William Albert (1 year ago)
Just focus on how you tie the starting knot and keep the finishing knot the same. If you tie it right over left than change it to left over right. Don't change your technique for tying the finishing knot. It's more complicated and too difficult a habit to change.
Mike70005 (1 year ago)
Tip: After forming the loop on the right, pass the other end around in the fashion you describe TWICE, then pull it through. This will lock the knot so it doesn't untie throughout the day.

Rev. James C (2 years ago)
Okay, so I have the single knot worked out. It seems I have pretty much always done it this way. It starts to look untidy when I double knot it. Any solutions to this, or should I just stick with the single?
Rev. James C (1 year ago)
Hello William. Thank you for responding. Since viewing this video two months ago, I decided to stick with the single knot. :-) Thanks again.
William Albert (1 year ago)
You should consider the purposes of any knot. 1 It needs to do the job it's designed for. 2 Should be easily tied and 3 Be easily untied. What most people do to double tie, makes it harder to untie because the rip chords on the loops no longer work. It also adds an extra step while tying. If the single is doing the job you should stick with it. If not, because the material the lace is made of makes it slip out even when tied properly, you should use another type of knot. Ians' shoelace is a good source on alternatives to the classic shoelace bow. Knots are a fascinating subject to explore. Enjoy!

What about hiding shoelaces? Is it acceptable only on sneakers, or it can apply to formal shoes too?
BJ Harbach (2 years ago)
Thank you for this video. I have been trying to explain to my grandchildren that they've been tying their sneakers wrong, and try to explain how to do it correctly, but they just don't get it. It has to do with making a square knot, right over left then left over right or conversely left over right then right over left. Their shoes are always coming untied. I am constantly having to stop whatever we are doing to wait for them to retie them. Hopefully this video will help. BTW, while your title refers to "real men" this method works just as well for women and girls.
Darius Stancioiu (2 years ago)
I have always been tying my shoes like that (reversing the left and right because I am left handed). Guess I have been doing it right ;) Btw, I love your channel, really helped me especially with the companies you shoed (like Paul Evans or Tailor Store), before I didn't really find a good company to deliver in Romania.
Dean Christensen (2 years ago)
Antonio, you could just wear slip ons instead of tying laces incorrectly. food for thought.
Spicy Fireball (2 years ago)
What are your opinions on the 1 second knot? Can be show by this video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMuNjnNyaiA It still leaves the loops and strings out the the sides like your knot, but in my opinion the knot itself also looks a lot neater and much more uniform. What is your opinion?
Spicy Fireball (2 years ago)
after looking more carefully, I see it is actually the same knot, just a much faster way of tying the knot.

This is 1st world problems on crack!!
I have dress shoes but it is very difficult for me to tie the knot simply because the laces are so short. Any advice?
rbtamms (2 years ago)
Finally, I learn how to do it right....is there a way how to hide the excess laces or it doesn't look right with dress shoes?
geoff goold (2 years ago)
Are you serious? what a waist of time.

Antonio... No disrespect brother. But this... THIS is without question THE MOST retarded video you have put out. I really look forward to seeing new videos. But damn man!!!? As a retired FMF corpsman. I have met a few "Dim ones" in my day. But I'm pretty sure everyone knew how to tie their shoe. And would you really want to work for someone that judged you by how you tied your knot. Sorry I blew up. Just had to vent. Semper Fi and keep the good vids coming.

kitchencone (2 years ago)
This looks like you are left-handed. Are you? All the major motions, like finishing the crossover, and going around the loop, are done with the left hand. While the knots are correct, and it is nice to see someone pointing out the difference between weak knots and strong knots, your left-hand biased way is not the only way to tie shoes, despite your tone suggesting it is the only correct way.
Jason Wilkins (2 years ago)
Gentleman's Gazette had a good tip that may enhance this. He had a way to double knot that avoids the big bulky knot. On the step when you wrap the lace around the loop, he does it twice instead of once around it. This makes it much stronger and avoids the knot coming loose. I haven't tried this way and I look forward to doing it. Thanks Antonio for the tip.

Also, loved this video. Very different from your usual style.
Wade Ma (2 years ago)
What are the names of the knots used for the right way? I've read that a reef knot should be used for dress shoes, but the infographics don't appear to show reef knots. Thanks.

Would have never thought twice about this but have to say this is a great tip!

Bar Lacing or Criss Cross? I never know! I'm used to Criss crossing, does this make my dress shoe look worse?
