What is PRODUCT LINE? What does PRODUCT LINE mean? PRODUCT LINE meaning & explanation
What is PRODUCT LINE? What does PRODUCT LINE mean? PRODUCT LINE meaning - PRODUCT LINE definition - PRODUCT LINE explanation Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. In marketing jargon, product lining is offering several related products for sale individually. Unlike product bundling, where several products are combined into one group, which is then offered for sale as a unit, product lining involves offering the products for sale separately. A line can comprise related products of various sizes, types, colors, qualities, or prices. Line depth refers to the number of subcategories a category has. Line consistency refers to how closely related the products that make up the line are. Line vulnerability refers to the percentage of sales or profits that are derived from only a few products in the line. Product lining is a marketing strategy that companies adopt which they offer products in the same product line for sale individually (Krishnamurthi, 2007). Product line is a group of related products defined by their functions and customer market, forming a “line" or category (Neubauer, Steffen & Margaria, 2003). For instance, the variety of coffees that are offered at a café is one of its product lines and it could consist of flat white, cappuccinos, short black, lattes, mochas and etc. Alternatively, Product line of juices and pastries can also be found at a café. In comparison to product bundling, which is a strategy of offering more than one product for promotion as one combined item to create differentiation and greater value, product lining consists of selling different related products individually (Chen, 1997). The products in the product line can come in various sizes, colours, qualities, or prices. The benefits from having a successful product line is the brand identification from customers which result in customer loyalty and multiple purchases (Kekre & Srinivasan, 1990). It increases the likelihood of customers purchasing new products from the company that have just been added into the product line due to the previous satisfying purchases (Krishnamurthi, 2007).

They may be closely related but could be lower in price or differ in colour, flavour, texture or a variety of other factors. At the end of the day, all these products belong to the same brand but could be marketed under different names. For example... Take the supermarket’s own range of products on sale. They may have various names for the same type of product, like desserts. The product lines could be a Gold range, or a more expensive, exclusive offering and a No Frills range, a cheaper alternative. Either way, the sales from both brand names would contribute to the company’s earnings. The company can do further analysis to determine which product line is doing better and add to or repeal it. What is PRODUCT LINE EXTENSION? What does PRODUCT LINE EXTENSION mean? PRODUCT LINE EXTENSION meaning - PRODUCT LINE EXTENSION definition - PRODUCT LINE EXTENSION explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ A product line extension is the use of an established product brand name for a new item in the same product category. Line Extensions occur when a company introduces additional items in the same product category under the same brand name such as new flavors, forms, colors, added ingredients, package sizes. This is as opposed to brand extension which is a new product in a totally different product category. Line extension occurs when the company lengthens its product line beyond its current range. The company can extend its product line down-market stretch, up-market stretch, or both ways. Product line extensions are a process where companies with an established brand alter the factors of a product or products to satisfy a refined segment in the market. There are two types of product line extensions, horizontal and vertical. Horizontal extensions consist of keeping the price and quality consistent, but changing factors like flavour or colour to differentiate the products. Vertical extensions consist of increasing and decreasing the quality and price to create inferior and luxury goods. These product line extensions are often closely related to existing products in a brands portfolio, but targets specific brand consumers through this approach. Product line extensions help companies identify and tend to the needs of refined target markets. This approach is a way to try and increase company sales, as well as expanding their brands product portfolio within the desired market. This expansion of a company’s product line also increases their competitive impact, and if applied appropriately, their advantage within the intended market. Practically, when brands apply a product extension strategy they can often benefit from the new addition or additions. This is as extending their product line enlarges their product portfolio and as a result provides the consumers with more variety to choose from. This is positive, as consumers tend to enjoy being able to have choice and through expanding a brands product line, the brand is providing this choice. Investing in this approach is commonly pursued by companies due to their desire to create revenue and to advance their competitive status against rival companies. The advantages when undergoing product line extensions is that the new product or products are commonly closely related to existing products, so the company often has the appropriate production process and capacity to produce the new product or products. Issues facing product line extensions can include company’s investments in the new products without the desired return. The product may come at a loss or may not be able to make enough of the return the company was forecasting for. The new addition could also send confusion to the company’s customer base, and in turn negatively affect the loyalty they have for the brand. This can evidently become a long-term risk in terms of brand image, as consumers may have a new view of the brand as cheap, in the case of downward extension, or unrealistic and unreasonable in terms of upward extension. An issue also connected to the extensions, could result in the production process becoming more and more complicated as a result of new products, this could affect the company’s efficiency and quality in the production of the brands product range. An advantage of extending company product lines is the likely rise in sales, demand and market share. Product line extension increases the amount of different products available to consumers, and through adding more products into the market it keeps consumers interested. This can be helpful in avoiding customer base loss.

What is SOFTWARE PRODUCT LINE? What does SOFTWARE PRODUCT LINE mean? SOFTWARE PRODUCT LINE meaning - SOFTWARE PRODUCT LINE definition - SOFTWARE PRODUCT LINE explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Software product lines, or software product line development, refers to software engineering methods, tools and techniques for creating a collection of similar software systems from a shared set of software assets using a common means of production. Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute defines a software product line as "a set of software-intensive systems that share a common, managed set of features satisfying the specific needs of a particular market segment or mission and that are developed from a common set of core assets in a prescribed way." Manufacturers have long employed analogous engineering techniques to create a product line of similar products using a common factory that assembles and configures parts designed to be reused across the product line. For example, automotive manufacturers can create unique variations of one car model using a single pool of carefully designed parts and a factory specifically designed to configure and assemble those parts. The characteristic that distinguishes software product lines from previous efforts is predictive versus opportunistic software reuse. Rather than put general software components into a library in the hope that opportunities for reuse will arise, software product lines only call for software artifacts to be created when reuse is predicted in one or more products in a well defined product line. Recent advances in the software product line field have demonstrated that narrow and strategic application of these concepts can yield order of magnitude improvements in software engineering capability. The result is often a discontinuous jump in competitive business advantage, similar to that seen when manufacturers adopt mass production and mass customization paradigms. While early software product line methods at the genesis of the field provided the best software engineering improvement metrics seen in four decades, the latest generation of software product line methods and tools are exhibiting even greater improvements. New generation methods are extending benefits beyond product creation into maintenance and evolution, lowering the overall complexity of product line development, increasing the scalability of product line portfolios, and enabling organizations to make the transition to software product line practice with orders of magnitude less time, cost and effort.

They are interested in symbols and ideas that help them relate the product to a desired lifestyle and positive expectations about the future. Deciding whether to Drop a Product Line
When deciding whether to drop a product line, the only things that should be considered are the contribution margin provided by the product line and the fixed costs that could be avoided by dropping the product line. This is important because fixed costs are sometimes allocated to product lines, which can distort managerial decision-making by creating the appearance that the firm would be more profitable by dropping a product line that may appear unprofitable because it is being allocated fixed costs that would not disappear if the product line were dropped. Sony 4K TV Product Line Comparison
SUBSCRIBE FOR THE LATEST VIDEOS http://bit.ly/DTYouTubeSub Boasting similar features and performance, the X800E and X850E series are differentiated primarily by screen size — 43-, 49-, and 55-inch models make up the X800E series. The 65- and 75-inch variants get the X850E badge, but they also get a new chip offering HDR Pro Remastering for an HDR-like experience with non-HDR content, and Super Bit Mapping for smoother color gradations as well. As the entry level to Sony’s LED/LCD TV line, one might think Sony skimped on the X800E series’ processing and picture quality, but this segment is loaded with top-tier tech that’s been trickled down from higher-end models, including Sony’s excellent 4K X-reality Pro processing chip, and its Triluminous Display technology for expanded color gamut and increased color accuracy. In addition to Google’s Android TV operating system, Sony has also built in Google’s Home assistant, allowing for voice-based interaction and commands. Suggested retail pricing is as follows: XBR-75X850E, 75-inch class — $5,000 XBR-65X850E, 65-inch class — $2,500 XBR-55X800E, 55-inch class — $1,900 XBR-49X800E, 49-inch class — $1,100 XBR-43X800E, 43-inch class — $1,000 The X900E is an all new segment within Sony’s TV lineup. In addition to the aforementioned 4K X-Reality Pro chip, X1 HDR Pro Remastering and Super Bit Mapping, and Triluminous Display features, the X900E adds X-tended Dynamic Range Pro 5x, which we witnessed increasing contrast substantially over prior-year models. Interestingly, a full-array local dimming (FALD) backlight system, typically a high-end feature, is limited to this series (with the exception of the 75-inch X940E and Z9D). One might think that FALD would offer the best brightness, contrast, and black level control, but Sony says its more advanced, edge-lit X930E/X940E models actually surpass the performance of this series. Pricing is as follows: XBR-75X900E, 75-inch class — $6,000 XBR-65X900E, 65-inch class — $3,300 XBR-55X900E, 55-inch class — $2,400 XBR-49X900E, 49-inch class — $1,700 This series is at the highest rung of Sony’s lineup before getting to the over-the-top flagship Z9D series introduced late last year. In addition to all the aforementioned features, the X930E series employs an improved version of its edge-lighting system called Slim Backlight Drive +, which Sony claims offers 10 times the contrast of a conventional LED/LCD TV. We saw a side-by-side demonstration between the new X930E and last year’s X930D, and the contrast improvements were indeed substantial. This series has better black levels, better shadow detail, and much higher brightness, making it especially well suited for extreme HDR performance. This could be the finest edge-lit television we see in 2017. The X940E, which is available only in a 75-inch version, offers a souped-up full-array backlight system for performance that treads dangerously into the Z9D’s territory. An HDR gaming demonstration using the PlayStation 4 Pro was especially impressive, and we expect the TV will perform equally well for TV and movie playback. To get such performance, however, one will have to pay handsomely for it. Pricing is as follows: XBR-75X940E, 75-inch class — $7,500 XBR-65X930E, 65-inch class — $4,000 XBR-55X930E, 55-inch class — $3,300 Based on our brief demonstrations, these appear to be the finest TVs Sony has made to date, with excellent HDR performance (including Dolby Vision, HDR 10, and HLG) and, again, some of the finest picture processing available. We look forward to reviewing all series models in depth later this year. And when we do, we look forward to using Sony’s new Ultra HD Blu-ray player as a source. What is PRODUCT PROLIFERATION? What does PRODUCT PROLIFERATION mean? PRODUCT PROLIFERATION meaning - PRODUCT PROLIFERATION definition - PRODUCT PROLIFERATION explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Product proliferation occurs when organizations market many variations of the same products. This can be done through different colour combinations, product sizes and different product uses. This produces diversity for the firm as it is able to capture its sizable portion of the market. However, it can also be considered that marketing so many new products leads to economic resources being wasted; the consumer becomes confused and mistakes are made in the purchase of products. The very dynamism of product proliferation makes it hard to manage. Complexity is spawned by an ever-changing landscape of customer demand and companies' attempts to meet that demand with configurable products and more product variations. Product proliferation can sometimes also lead to cannibalisation of the existing product line of the company and should be justified by overall increase in market share.

Samsung TV Product Line Comparison
SUBSCRIBE FOR THE LATEST VIDEOS http://bit.ly/DTYouTubeSub We're going to check out choice examples from Samsung's 2017 TV lineup. We'll start with the entry-level model, work out way up to the flagship model--the best TV Samsung makes--and along the way'll, you'll learn what kind of design and picture quality differences you can expect as you move up. Let's start up with what will be the same throughout every Samsung Smart TV you buy, and that's Tizen. Samsung continues to refine its Tizen smart TV operating system to the point where its TVs are more interactive and intuitive than ever before. Central to QLED smart improvements is a new Samsung One remote control, which the company says operates more devices, and supports more smart TV features via voice control. The TVs’ so-called Smart Hub can now be deeply customized using Samsung’s Smart View app, available for iOS and Android devices. Additionally, Samsung has come up with a new music service interface which corrals all supported internet radio stations and streaming music services into one place, with users’ playlists from all available services displayed in one central place. Samsung's most affordable 4K UHD TV, with HDR is the MU6300 and comes with 3 HDMI ports, along with one with HDMI-ARC for easy connection to a soundbar. For the price, this TV has good black levels, decent color, and better picture quality than you'd get with a 1080p TV for sure. If we move up a couple of notches, we get tot he MU7500, which is as a curved model, which isn't as common as you might think nowadays; Samsung is the last manufacturer to make curved TVs. At a glance, you'll notice the picture quality is a little better than the MU6300 and is brighter--which really makes HDR content pop of the screen better. Next on our list is the MU8000, where we're going to see a much flashier design in a trimmer bezel and slimmer profile. It's got a uniform backside and there's a chrome strip at the bottom that plays nicely against its two medal stands. With the MU8000, you'll also get a Samsung One Connect box, which lets you connect all your components to the box, then run a single cable up to your TV. The MU8000 punches well above its price point, where HDR starts to look pretty amazing at this level, with intense brightness, color, and very good looking black levels. If you're not looking to pay the premium price for Samsung's Q-Series, then this is an excellent choice. Finally on our list is one of those Q-Series TVs, the Q9, the crown jewel of of Samsung's new QLED TV lineup, and in our opinion, the best TV Samsung has ever made. It has a completely flat back, and a hidden mounting bay, which allows almost gapless wall mount when you use a special Samsung wall mount hardware. In terms of picture quality, we think the Samsung Q9 is one of the best screens you'll see all year from any manufacturer. What is PRODUCT REBRANDING? What does PRODUCT REBRANDING mean? PRODUCT REBRANDING meaning - PRODUCT REBRANDING definition - PRODUCT REBRANDING explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ As for product offerings, when they are marketed separately to several target markets this is called market segmentation. When part of a market segmentation strategy involves offering significantly different products in each market, this is called product differentiation. This market segmentation/product differentiation process can be thought of as a form of rebranding. What distinguishes it from other forms of rebranding is that the process does not entail the elimination of the original brand image. Dexxa computer mice are rebranded Logitech devices sold at a lower price by Logitech in the low-end market segment without undercutting their mid-range products. Rebranding in this manner allows one set of engineering and QA to be used to create multiple products with minimal modifications and additional expense. Following a merger or acquisition, companies usually rebrand newly acquired products to keep them consistent with an existing product line. For example, when Symantec acquired Quarterdeck in November 1998, Symantec chose to rename CleanSweep to Norton CleanSweep. Later on, the company chose to reposition its entire product line by grouping products into a bundle known as Norton SystemWorks. Symantec is not the only software company to reposition and rebrand its products. Much of Microsoft's product line consists of rebranded products, including MS-DOS, FoxPro, and Visio. Another example is the rebrands of GeForce 8-series GPU into 9-series by nVidia. The reverse can also happen, as when AlliedSignal acquired Honeywell, Southern Railroad of Long Island acquired Long Island Rail Road, and Chemical Bank acquired Chase Manhattan Bank. In such cases, the acquiring company rebrands itself with the acquired name. Another form of product rebranding is the sale of a product manufactured by another company under a new name. An original design manufacturer is a company that manufactures a product that is eventually branded by another firm for sale. This is often the case with international trade. A product is manufactured in a place with lower operating costs, and sold under a local brand name.

5. BCG Matrix - Marketing Lecture by Prof. Vijay Prakash Anand
"MARKETING MANAGEMENT MASTERCLASS" Course Link and Discount Code: https://www.udemy.com/marketing-management-masterclass/?couponCode=MARKETINGYT In this video, I have talked about BCG Matrix. BCG Matrix means Boston Consulting Group Matrix. It is also known as Growth Share Matrix or, the product portfolio or, Boston matrix or portfolio diagram. BCG Matrix is a chart; created by Bruce D. Henderson for the Boston Consulting Group in 1970 to help corporations analyze their business units, that is, their  product lines. To develop the matrix, it takes into account the market growth rate and relative market share of the business unit or the product line.Based on this, a product can be classified into one of four categories - Cash Cow, Star, Question Mark or Problem Child and Dog. "To be successful, a company should have a portfolio of products with different growth rates and different market shares. The portfolio composition is a function of the balance between cash flows. High growth products require cash inputs to grow. Low growth products should generate excess cash. Both kinds are needed simultaneously." -Bruce D. What is Brand Equity?
Welcome to the Investors Trading Academy talking glossary of financial terms and events. Our word of the day is “Brand Equity”. Brand equity is a phrase used in the marketing industry which describes the value of having a well-known brand name, based on the idea that the owner of a well-known brand name can generate more money from products with that brand name than from products with a less well-known name. One situation when brand equity is important is when a company wants to expand its product line. If the brand's equity is positive, the company can increase the likelihood that customers will buy its new product by associating the new product with an existing, successful brand. For example, if Campbell's releases a new soup, it would likely keep it under the same brand name, rather than inventing a new brand. The positive associations customers already have with Campbell's would make the new product more enticing than if the soup had an unfamiliar brand name. Companies can create brand equity for their products by making them memorable, easily recognizable and superior in quality and reliability. Mass marketing campaigns can also help to create brand equity. If consumers are willing to pay more for a generic product than for a branded one, however, the brand is said to have negative brand equity. This might happen if a company had a major product recall or caused a widely publicized environmental disaster. By Barry Norman, Investors Trading Academy

"Software Product Line Analysis and Construction" with David Weiss
Title: Software Product Line Analysis and Construction Speaker: David Weiss Date: 3/1/2018 Abstract You know your product is successful when your users start asking for changes. The more useful your software is, the more change requests and variety of change requests you get. Is there a way to anticipate such success as you design and build your software? One way is to consider that you are building a family of systems and to try to define what the family members will have in common, i.e., their commonalities, and how you are willing to let them vary, i.e., their variabilities. Software product line engineering is based on the idea of defining and developing a family of systems. The goal is to make it easy to produce members of the family. Experienced product line engineers make it possible to generate members of the family by identifying the decisions that need to be made to specify a family member and using parameterization and other techniques to instantiate the code for the family to produce the corresponding family member. Put another way, they create a decision model that links variabilities with parameters and code segments that are needed to implement the family member. This talk will define software product line engineering and discuss the FAST method (Family-oriented Abstraction, Specification and Translation) for applying it, with examples. SPEAKER David Weiss, Co-founder and Partner Sustainable Software, LLC David M. Weiss is an emeritus professor of software engineering at Iowa State University, and a co-founder of Sustainable Software, LLC. His best known work is the goal-question-metric approach to software measurement, his work on the modular structure of software systems, and his work in software product-line engineering as a co-inventor of the FAST process. Prior to joining the ISU faculty, he was the Director of the Software Technology Research Department at Avaya Laboratories, where he worked on improving the effectiveness of software development, particularly the effectiveness of Avaya's software development processes. Before joining Avaya Labs, he was the head of the Software Production Research Department at Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories, and Director of the Reuse and Measurement Department of the Software Productivity Consortium (SPC).
