Cosmic Journeys examines the great promise of the Voyager mission and where it will lead us in our grand ambition to move out beyond our home planet. The two Voyager spacecraft are part of an ancient quest to push beyond our boundaries... to see what lies beyond the horizon. Now tens of billions of kilometers from Earth, two spacecraft are streaking out into the void. What will we learn about the Galaxy, the Universe, and ourselves from Voyager's epic Journey to the stars? December 19, 1972... the splashdown of the Apollo 17 crew capsule marked the end of the golden age of manned spaceflight. The Mercury.... Gemini... and Apollo programs had proven that we could send people into space... To orbit the Earth.... Fly out beyond our planet... Then land on the moon and walk among its ancient crater. The collective will to send people beyond our planet faded in times of economic uncertainty, war, and shifting priorities. And yet, just five years after Apollo ended, scientists launched a new vision that was just as profound and even more far-reaching. It didn't all go smoothly. Early computer problems threatened to doom Voyager 2. Then its radio receiver failed, forcing engineers to use a back up. Now, after more than three and a half decades of successful operations, the twin spacecraft are sending back information on their flight into interstellar space. Along the way, they have revealed a solar system rich beyond our imagining. The journey was made possible by a rare alignment of the planets, a configuration that occurs only once every 176 years. That enabled the craft to go from planet to planet, accelerating as they entered the gravitational field of one, then flying out to the next. The Voyagers carried a battery of scientific equipment to collect data on the unknown worlds in their path. That included a pair of vidicom cameras, and a data transfer rate slower than a dialup modem.

UPDATE - one year after visiting North Korea I traveled to South Korea and made a video comparing my experiences in both of these two countries. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJUSIWSaQX4 Learn how I started traveling full-time at 19: http://bit.ly/TravelingAt19 Catch me and meet me during my travels: http://bit.ly/MeetWithJacob Free $34 AirBnb credit for your next trip: http://bit.ly/AirBnb34Coupon I've always been very interested in North Korea because it seemed to be one of the most unique and mysterious countries in the whole world. This is my day to day life throughout the 7 days that I spent in North Korea. You can never be sure whether things were staged or not in North Korea because you are only shown what they want you to see. You can't choose where or when you will be going to specific places, they simply tell you to hop on a bus and ask you to get off at one point or another. That is why I didn't want to offer my opinion about whether things were staged or not, whether they were good or not, or honest or not. My goal was to show you what my day to day life looked like when I was there and let you make up your own mind and judge for yourself. Do not judge North Korea only from what you see in this video. This is what they showed us and there's a reason they show some things and not show the others. Also, knowing how much control they exercise over the population, everything could have been staged only for us. My favorite books about North Korea: Dear Leader by Jang Jin Sung - http://amzn.to/2vEkrrE; Escape From Camp 14 by Blaine Harden - http://amzn.to/2vEz6U1; Nothing To Envy by Barbara Demick - http://amzn.to/2vzieiI; 1984 by George Orwell (I couldn't believe how similar some things in North Korea looked to the ones in the book) - http://amzn.to/2vE92s8. Our Japan trip starts right now! Join us for a travel vlog flying to Japan from Canada going from Toronto to Vancouver to Osaka with Air Canada. We've been wanting to take a trip to Japan since we taught English in Korea back in 2012. We had always assumed it would be our first destination to visit after teaching but we ended up delaying and putting it off. We're now finally visiting Japan together for the first time! Our long journey started off in Toronto with a flight to Vancouver with Air Canada. Upon arriving in Vancouver we had quite a bit of time to kill before catching another Air Canada flight to Osaka. Overall, it was a really tiring day but we arrived excited to be in Japan despite our jet lag. Upon arriving we took the train and metro to our airbnb with a few snags along the way. After passing out we grabbed a convenience store meal from Lawson as our first dinner in Japan. We're really excited to explore Osaka in the next episode. We're so excited about this Japan trip series as it is the biggest one we've created to date. Video Transcript: Good morning good morning guys. We have a big video for you today. An important update. Important update. We are going to Japan! At long last. We've been wanting to visit for years. Like I thought this would be the first place we visited after we finished teaching in Korea way back in 2012. It has been five years in the works. We planned trips in the past to go to Japan. Canceled them and just haven't found time but now we've made it a priority. We are going for 2 months in Japan. And we have 2 flights today. We're going to be flying from Toronto to Vancouver. That is five hours. Changing planes and then Vancouver to Osaka. It is going to be 11 hours. And we are flying into Osaka instead of Tokyo yeah because it was cheaper. We got a great deal. If you are planning to travel around Japan not just in Tokyo look at neighbouring cities. I think we may have got our flights. I can't remember because we booked them a few months ago. I think they might have been like 900 something Canadian. Canadian. That is like 700 US something. Incredible deal. It is usually double. Well the never-ending journey. We've made it. We're in Japan. We have made it. It has been such a long travel day like we probably look like urgh. We need sleep. We got our tickets for 920 Yen. We're going to Taknachia or something like that and then we have to transfer to the metro so we're a bit lost and confused at the moment. We are going to figure it out eventually. The update is that we found the metro but before buying the metro tickets we followed incorrect instructions. Let's enjoy it our first meal in Japan guys. Time for a little update. But we're also whispering because it is really late yes and I think we have neighbours so so we basically just came in here and I think we were passed out within seconds not minutes. And we slept for like 6 or 7 hours. We woke up at a really bizarre hour. I think it is like one or two in the morning. It is like one in the morning right now. We're a little bit peckish so. You more than me. I think we're going to go try and find a convenience store nearby to have a little bite. The meal is really good so far. The only surprise is that I thought it was a pork tonkatsu but then we bit into it and we're like this is fish. It is like breaded fish but still tasty. I'm moving on to the dumplings now. It has been a very long 2 days. I feel like at this point so we're going to say goodbye and goodnight. We're going to sleep yet again. Goodnight. And tomorrow we're going to have a video where we basically plan to create a video of our first impressions of our first full day here in Japan. Stay tuned for that. Bye This is part of our Travel in Japan video series showcasing Japanese food, Japanese culture and Japanese cuisine. Music by Agrofox: https://soundcloud.com/argofox

Antarctica trip 2016, Antarctica Tourism, Antarctica Travel Guide, Antarctica vacations Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Antarctica is a land of extremes: it is the coldest and driest continent on Earth and has the highest average elevation. As the fifth largest continent in the world, Antartica is also the most Southern, overlying the "South Pole". Scarcely touched by humans, the frozen land boasts breathtaking scenery, broken by only a handful of scientific bases and a "permanent" population of scientists numbering only a few thousand. Visitors to Antarctica generally must brave rough sea crossings aboard ice-strengthened vessels, but those who do are rewarded with amazing scenery and tremendous and unique wildlife. Destinations ============= The primary destinations for those visiting Antarctica will either be a research base (for those working on the frozen continent) or the Antarctic Peninsula or Ross Sea area (for those visiting by ship). Other destinations are reachable only by those blessed with extreme motivation and (most importantly) funding. South Pole — needs no introduction Southern pole of inaccessibility — the furthest place in Antarctica from the Southern Sea (in other words the hardest place to get to in the world), home to an abandoned Soviet station, which although covered by snow, still bears a visible gold Lenin bust sprouting from the snow and facing Moscow (if you can find a way inside the building, then there's a golden visitor book to sign) Mount Erebus — world's southernmost active volcano, on Ross Island right next to ~Mount Terror!~ Anver Island / Anvord Bay — if any part of Antarctica is "touristy," this is it, home to Palmer Station (U.S.), the museum at Port Lockroy, Cuverville Island, and the only two cruise ship stops on the continent: Paradise Bay and Neko Harbor South Shetland Islands — another set of major attractions on the Antarctic Peninsula cruise ship circuit, including: penguins and hot springs at Deception Island, Hannah Point, Half Moon Island, Aitcho Islands, Artigas Base (Uruguay), and the ever friendly Polish researchers at Arctowski Station McMurdo Sound — McMurdo Station (USA) and Scott Base (New Zealand) on the mainland near Ross Island Mawson's Huts — the small encampment of Sir Douglas Mawson's ill-fated Australian Antarctic Expedition, of which he was the sole survivor, at Cape Denison, Commonwealth Bay

Like this and you might also enjoy my similar video about transiting the "Northeast Passage on a Russian icebreaker" (https://youtu.be/VQReGCLCUX8). An in-depth video of a voyage through the Arctic Ocean ice to the geographic North Pole on the nuclear powered icebreaker '50 Years of Victory'. Leaving the North Pole, we visited Franz Josef Land before sailing back to Murmansk. Along the way we saw polar bears, walruses, seals and birds. '50 Years of Victory' (50 лет Победы / 50 Let Pobedy) is the largest and most powerful icebreaker in the world. She is an engineering marvel and is powered by 2 nuclear reactors that produce 75,000 horsepower giving her the ability to break through ice up to 2.8 meters thick or nearly 10 feet of ice. The 50 Years of Victory has an endurance of 5 years before she needs refuelling with new uranium. The reactors eliminate greenhouse gas emissions that are characteristic of ships burning fossil fuels. The Democratic Republic of the Congo, a country four times the size of France. If you want to travel from the capital, Kinshasa, to Kisangani, the third largest city, there is no road. This leaves only plane or boat. A journey of 1,750 kilometres along the Congo, the biggest river in Africa, but more importantly, one of the most dangerous in the world! The Gbermani provides a regular link between the two cities. Like all the other boats on the river, this one is special; it travels in convoy, pushing barges filled with goods and passengers. It’s not very big but it is fitted with two ultra powerful engines that allow it to push two barges and two whaleboats. It is a veritable floating city. A convoy of 1500 people, left to their own devices, without water, electricity, restaurants, medication or pharmacy. Along the river the buoys and navigation signs have long disappeared. The boat must sail by eye, trusting to an old chart dating back to the Belgian colonisation and the instinct and experience of the captain. And many dangers lie in wait for this boat. There are the water hyacinths, threatening to jam the propeller blades at any moment, mechanical failure—frequent on these old tubs—or sandbanks where the boat may run aground, etc. Aboard the barges, one passenger—a trained nurse—attempts to treat the children and, in particular, a man who has cut open his foot in an accident. She has little in the way of medication and no anaesthetics. Assisted by other passengers, she operates on the man fully conscious in an attempt to save his foot. On the other side of the coin there are some happy events, such as the birth of a child, named Gbermani, after the boat. A two-week long journey that stretches out to more than a month on the river of peril.

Having zero knowledge or experience with sailing, or even how to furl in the head sail, we bought a yacht in Italy.. we plan to circumnavigate the globe eventually, or just get the boat back to Australia. Documenting the voyage as we go. Turns out sailing isn't always as relaxing or easy as it looks and we are forever learning new things (seems to be not always the easy way).. Enjoy the video & subscribe to follow the voyage! Ps. If you are following our adventure, like what we are doing, and would like to help us get La Vaga around the world please support us on Patreon! Rising from the waters of Venice Lagoon is the Italian city of Venice, a city like no other. Begin your visit in the central district of San Marco, and walk upon one of the world’s great squares, St Mark’s Square. The square is surrounded by some of the city’s finest jewels such as St Mark’s Basilica, St Mark’s Campanile and Doge’s Palace. Just outside stand the Columns of San Marco and San Teodoro. From here, journey along one of the world’s great aquatic thoroughfares, The Grand Canal. Glide past elegant palazzos; once the homes of wealthy merchants, today many of these palaces house important museums and galleries. Known as The City Of Bridges, Venice has hundreds to explore. The Accademia Bridge links the San Marco district to the Accademia Gallery, and offers some of the Grand Canal’s finest views. The oldest of the Grand Canal’s four crossings is the Rialto Bridge, which today still serves as the gateway to the Rialto Markets. The most famous of all is the Bridge of Sighs, which connects Doge’s Palace to the historic prison. Venice is a city to get lost in, so put away your map and let her surprise you. Discover waterfront promenades of The Zattere and the sleepy canals and spacious piazzas of Castello. On the tiny island of Murano, glassmakers have been creating works of incredible delicacy and color for over 700 years. Further across the lagoon, the island of Burano is famed for its brightly colored houses and exquisite lace. Venice has shone her light into the far corners of the world for over one and a half thousand years. Just remember, this city smiles upon those who linger. So stay for a few nights, or stay for a month, and savor every moment she has to offer. http://www.expedia.com/Venice.d179981.Destination-Travel-Guides -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on social media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/Expedia Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/expedia Instagram: http://instagram.com/expedia Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/Expedia/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Expedia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on our travel blog, Viewfinder: http://viewfinder.expedia.com/

With a population of only 300,000, Iceland can feel like the most isolated place on earth, yet its capital Reykjavik, is only a three-hour flight from London and just under six from New York. Reykjavik is relaxed and welcoming, yet possesses a cultural life that holds its own against other European capitals. Most buildings are built simple and low to beat the North Atlantic winds. However, the city is also graced with grand civic architecture inspired by Iceland’s natural beauty, such as the soaring central tower of Hallgrímskirkja. Many of the country’s most popular sights are within easy reach of Reykjavík. Immerse yourself in the spirit of Iceland, at the Blue Lagoon. Then spend a day or two in The Golden Circle, an area which encompasses three of Iceland’s greatest natural wonders; Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Field, and Gullfoss. Iceland’s main ring road strings together an endless series of epic landscapes. Less than two hours drive east of Reykjavik are two of the world’s most beautiful waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Continue eastward towards Vík, Iceland’s southern-most village, where you’ll find the dramatic landscapes of Black Beach, Reynisdrangar, and Dyrholaey. Follow the ring road for another two hours into the ethereal light of Jökulsárlón Lake, where icebergs break away from Europe’s largest glacier and float for years before tumbling out to sea. Head north and feel the earth rumble at Europe’s mightiest waterfall, Dettifoss. Then explore the Myvatn region, a tranquil lake surrounded by nature in all its violent beauty. Take a careful walk through the boiling landscape of Namafjall, lose yourself amid the lava pillars of Dimmuborgir, and peer into the caldera of Krafla Volcano. Known as the Capital of the North, Akureyri is the perfect place to warm up and enjoy some creature comforts, before heading off into the wilds again. In Iceland, every side road is a story waiting to unfold. So come, and live your own Icelandic story, it’s one you’ll keep telling for the rest of your days. https://www.expedia.com/Iceland.d79.Destination-Travel-Guides -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on social media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/Expedia Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/expedia Instagram: http://instagram.com/expedia Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/Expedia/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Expedia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on our travel blog, Viewfinder: http://viewfinder.expedia.com/

From the pastoral to the industrial, cruise down the world's most storied river "The Nile" in a once in a lifetime journey. ► Support our channel via: Paypal: https://www.paypal.me/mycompasstv The Nile River is a major north-flowing river in northeastern Africa, it's generally regarded as the longest river in the world at 6,853 km long. The Nile is an "international" river as its water resources are shared by eleven countries, namely, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan and Egypt. In particular, the Nile is the primary water resource and life artery for Egypt and Sudan. Most of the population and cities of Egypt lie along those parts of the Nile valley north of Aswan, and nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along the riverbanks. The Nile ends in a large delta that empties into the Mediterranean Sea. reporter: Ilona Kauremszky video: Stephen Smith music: Kevin MacLeod http://incompetech.com http://www.mycompass.ca http://twitter.com/mycompasstv
