How to Ride the London Tube

06:53
A guide to riding public transportation in London, the London Underground, also known as the London Tube. I tell you everything you need to know to ride the underground trains in London including how to buy tickets, how to plan your trip, and how to find your train. Overview: The London Underground, also called “The Tube” -- but never “subway” is generally the quickest mode of transport for journeys to another neighborhood or across town. Might not be the best for going a short distance though. Locals laugh at tourists who take the tube one stop. 270 stations on 12 lines which are named and colored. Red is the central line. Trains run 5:30am until Midnight Mon-Thurs, 1am on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday is 6:30am to 11:30pm Rush hour is 8-10am and 5-7pm Planning your journey: Every station has a map, but it’s not to scale, or even geographically correct. Handy to carry a map with you. Google Maps is OK. Doesn’t really account for transfer time. But the citymapper app is way better. Includes walking time, and what part of the train to ride. Buying a ticket: Yes you can get a paper ticket, but its 5GBP for one ride. Hardly worth it. First things first -- Get an Oyster Card -- 5 GBP deposit, then load it up. Stored value, or a travel pass. (travel pass can be paper) You can buy it from any tube station, vending machines take bills, coins, and credit card. But it might not take YOUR credit card. Use machines to top up card too. Getting in: Every station has ticket gates, find the ones that have an arrow that indicates it is for entry. EIther insert your paper ticket in the slot, or tap your oyster card. Will show the oyster balance. You can also use a contactless credit card, but maybe not YOUR card. Finding the platform: Since you planned your route, you’ll know what line you’re taking. Look for the overhead sign, and find the direction (Northbound, Eastbound, etc) The platforms are well marked and signs indicate the way to the platforms and the destinations served by the various platforms. Not all trains on a "line" travel to all stops. Be sure that the train you take travels to your destination by reading the overhead signs or the illuminated sign on the front of the train. Also make sure you take train on the correct branch. Riding the train: Mind the gap getting on. Sit or stand. Mind the priority seats, and mind your head. The doors are curved. Maps inside the train Stops are well announced and you can see outside the window the stops too. I usually find it best just to count. Exiting: Once you get off the train, you’ll either be connecting or exiting. If you’re connecting look for the overhead signs for your transfer line If you’re exiting -- look for the “Way Out” signs. Make sure you are going out the correct exit And then just “tap” your way out. How to Ride the New York City Subway

07:22
A DETAILED guide on how to ride the subway in New York City. Topics include: General New York City Subway Information, planning your trip, tickets, getting in the station, finding your train, riding the train, exiting the station, transfers, and wash your hands! The NYC Subway has 472 stations serving 27 subway lines and runs 24 hours a day. Routes are identified by letters (A,B,C), or numbers (1, 2, 3). In many stations you can’t simply get out of the train and go the other direction. You have to exit the station and re-enter. Make sure you are going the correct direction. Uptown is typically “North” Downtown is typically “South” Express vs Local Trains: Local trains stop at every stop Express trains skip stops The map will show white circles, which are express AND local stops. Black circle only local trains. New to the subway? Just take the local trains. Planning your trip: Get an app: Citymapper Google Maps works too Or look at the subway map -- free printed ones are available Tickets: Buy a metro-card for $1, and load it up. Each subway ride is $2.75. Or a single ride ticket is $3. You can buy or load the metro-card at any subway ticket machine with cash or credit card. Cash machines are big, but only return $9 in change. Credit/debit machines are small. There is no “daily” card, but a weekly unlimited ride card is $32 Getting In the Station Entrance that are always open have green lights Exit only or part time entrances have red lights or no lights Be careful of single direction entrances To get in the station you’ll swipe your metro-card on the turnstile. Either waist high, or full height turnstile. Swipe at a medium speed, then push the turnstile. Wheelchair, stroller ask the station attendant to open the gate. Finding your train Look for the route (letter or number) and direction. In big stations you may be walking for up to 15 minutes. Make sure its the correct direction, Uptown/Brooklyn is typically “up” (North), Downtown/Brooklyn is “down” (South) Riding the train Don’t bother listening to the announcements, think new york accents, lousy microphones, and lousy speakers make it hard to hear. It’s best to count your stops. Know the name of the stop just before yours. Don’t stare at people Don’t get on an empty car. It either smells, or the AC is broken. Remove your backpack, if you’re sitting put in on our lap. Stay awake… you might miss your stuff, and your stuff might get stolen. Yes, pickpockets operate on the NYC subway. If you’re standing, hold on to the railing. Locals might not be, but they are used to the motion. Exiting the station Simply push on the turnstile, you don’t need to swipe out Transfers Your Metrocard swipe is valid for two hours for transfers to buses from the subway, bus to bus, OR bus to subway. But not SUBWAY to SUBWAY. You need to take a “bus” to make this work. Finally Wash your hands or use some hand sanitizer when you leave the subway. Definitely don’t eat anything until your hands are clean. Jungfrau Switzerland via Interlaken and Grindelwald

15:56
Please subscribe: http://bit.ly/2pmdyeu Train trip to the Jungfrau Mountain at the Top of Europe, near Interlaken and Grindelwald, Switzerland. Europe's highest railroad line will bring you up to a spectacular world of perpetual winter, dominated by massive, snow-covered peaks reaching over 13,000 feet high and surrounding the continent's longest glacier. Many consider the train ride up one of the finest, most picturesque in the world, where getting to the top is half the fun. The journey from Interlaken to Grindlewald can be easily made on the Bernese Overland railway, and it travels on a scenic route through the valley and along the river and passes several villages. There are magnificent mountain views all along the way. The hundred-year-old rail line from Kleine Scheidegg to the Jungfraujoch is one of Europe's great engineering wonders, the world's highest subway climbing through four miles of tunnels inside the rock. The beginning of this 50-minute journey is not underground, and momentarily offers a great view; so sit on the right side of the train. The train makes two brief stops enroute to let everyone out for a walk through short tunnels to viewing stations, where you look through windows at the nearby mountain peaks and the landscapes far below. Upon arrival at the end of the rail line, you walk through an ice tunnel decorated with ice carvings and then approach a sight too amazing for description or film. You really have to pay your dues and go there in person to experience the exhilaration of standing at the top of the world, surrounded by Alpine giants of snow. The observation deck and snowfield are at 11,350 feet, flanked by the jagged peaks of the Jungfrau (13,642 ft.) and the Mönch (13,449 ft.), which form a valley that cradles the Aletsch Galcier, an endless field of snow that stretches 13 miles to the horizon. Plan on spending an hour or two at the top, playing in the snow and exploring the various levels and exhibits of the visitor center, then catch a convenient train back down the route you came. You return to Kleine Scheidegg, where you can change trains for a different return route that will take you through Wengen and down to Lauterbrunnen. http://tourvideos.com/

Let’s start with my preconceptions: I expected Japan’s capital, and home to the world’s largest urban population to be over the top and really in your face, with neon lights and anime at every turn and i certainly wasn’t disappointed. The streets are lined with towering, multi-storey buildings, each filled with mind bending department stores and arcades, offices to some of the world’s biggest brands and restaurants serving the best food you’ll ever taste. But despite all the apparent madness and chaos, spend a few days in Tokyo and it just makes sense. Here, efficiency is an art form. Japanese attention to detail is legendary, and it runs through everything, from food to public transport and urban planning. And yes, even the toilets. This trip was an educational and weirdly enlightening experience. I’ve been lucky to visit a lot of amazing places making these videos, but Tokyo is in a league of its own. So Tokyo, it’s big, it’s busy and it’s brilliant. As ever, let’s start with the airports. Flying from the UK you’ll come into one of Tokyo’s two major international airports, Haneda or Narita. Of course, you don’t need me to tell you that Tokyo is a really long way away, direct flights from Europe will take a whopping 12 hours for the nine and a half thousand kilometre journey. So you’ve got Haneda airport which is roughly 13 miles south of the city, and then you’ve got 50 miles east. Fortunately, both are really easy to get to noisy noisy Tokyo. Here’s what you need to know. From Haneda you have three main options, the airport limousine bus, a taxi or the monorail. The airport limousine takes between 30 and 45 minutes, stopping at most major hotels in the centre of town, with prices increasing for the night service between midnight and 5am. A taxi should take about half and hour depending on traffic, with prices depending where you’re being dropped off. There’s also a 20% extra charge between 10pm and 5am. However the quickest option is the airport’s dedicated monorail. It’ll get you into Hamamatsucho station in 13 minutes and from here you can connect to the circular Yamanote metro line to reach other parts of the city. The metro runs between 9 and 7 on weekdays and then 9 to 5 on weekends and public holidays. That’s Haneda! Here’s what you need to know about Narita. Narita is a whopping 50 miles east of Tokyo, so all of your transport options are going to take a while. The Airport Limousine bus and taxis runs from Narita but both will take anywhere between 90 minutes to 2 hours to reach central Tokyo. Instead, take the JR Narita Express. It’ll whisk into town in a little under an hour, and with this being Japan, the trains are on time and super efficient. A word of warning about getting home; if you’re flight’s on a Sunday, make sure you check the train times because there’s a reduced service. Check your departure time, and then allow plenty of extra time to get to the airport.

Frecciarossa 1000 Executive Class | Europe's Best Train? | Trip Report

11:42
Hi, this is my report about my trip with the Tranitalia Frecciarossa 1000 from Rome Termini to Milano Centrale in Executive Class. The ETR1000 is a high-speed train in Italy and the Executive Class is comparable to a First or Business Class product in a plane - very luxurious seats, perfect service, lounge access and many other things, that make traveling comfortable. To be honest, I haven't seen that level of perfection in any other European high-speed train before, so yes, this is my new favourite. This is my very first train travel report. So if you have any suggestions for future videos, let me know in the comments! As always I want to point out that I'm no professional video editor whatsoever. Nevertheless I give my best to create entertaining and informative videos. If you want to support this work, just subscribe to my channel. Thank you! As always, I have written a short article about my trip on my blog: http://the-jetstreamer.com/frecciarossa-1000-europes-best-train-travel-report/ You also find many other reports and my thoughts on different things there: http://travelmentary.tv/frecciarossa-1000-europes-best-train-travel-report/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music: created it myself :-)

Free train trip, Britomart, Auckland Downtown

17:39
Train trip, Britomart, Auckland Downtown We took the train to Auckland CBD on Friday evening and walked around Auckland downtown. On that day, both train services and bus rides were free. Here is an article regarding this that I found online: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12178727 "Auckland Transport makes buses and trains free on Friday to help stop drink-driving Public transport will be free in Auckland on Friday afternoon. Auckland Transport said this morning that travel on all buses and trains would be free after 4pm on Friday. Police said the Friday before Christmas was one of the worst days of the year for drink-driving. AT group manager metro service delivery Stacey Van Der Putten said the organisation was working with police to reduce drink-driving and one key initiative was to provide free public transport on Friday so that people all across Auckland could have a drink after work and had no need to get behind the wheel at all. "There's never been an excuse for drink-driving, it kills people on our roads. But if we can provide a free, easy public transport journey home, then it means there's no need to drive at all," she said. Tamaki Makaurau road policing manager Inspector Scott Webb said police dealt with an increase in alcohol-related crashes during the festive season and urged people to plan how they would get home safely. At 4pm the gates at train stations will be opened, and the tagging machines will be turned off on all bus trips starting after 4pm. If your journey starts before 4pm but finishes after 4pm, this trip will not be free." Sikkim and Bhutan (Asia) Vacation Travel Video Guide

51:40
Travel video about destination Sikkim and Bhutan. Surrounded by the world’s highest mountains is a fascinating world whose exotic charm enchants all who experience it, from the plains of West Bengal up into the Himalayas. Siliguri is a vibrant city located within India’s Terai Plain, a peaceful provincial town with calm streets and shops that once supplied the region’s tea pickers with their daily needs, has been transformed into an important crossroads for travellers to the Himalayas. Siliguri Train Station is the starting point of one of the most famous train journeys in the world, the Darjeeling Himalaya Toy Train which climbs to an altitude of more than two thousand metres, negotiates eight hundred and seventy three bends and crosses more than five hundred bridges. Sikkim is strongly associated with Tibet and possesses more than two hundred monasteries. The most holy monastery of the Nyingmapa Schools is in Tashiding and is located on a mountain in the east of the country along the route from Darjeeling. The independent kingdom of Bhutan is located in Southeast Asia, most of it being two thousand metres above sea level and is situated between India in the south and Tibet in the north. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan. An array of prayer flags adorn a bridge in the centre of the city and close by is the large Tshonhkhang Marketplace, a colourful meeting place for both farmers and traders. For more than a thousand years Bhutan has survived in self-imposed isolation, cut off from the outside world by its own deliberate policy. Sikkim and Bhutan: two gems of history, monastic culture and religious life. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► https://goo.gl/MXPgSs Join us.
