The data can be inserted in these tables either by the queries or even with a straightaway Graphical method. In this tutorial we will see both the methods. Step 1 -- Locating the Appropriate Database First of all, we need to locate and expand the database where that particular table is present. After that, expand the table's directory. Then we will insert the data in the Inventory table. If we move into the column section, it can be seen that there are four fields which have to be added, namely the ID, the Product Name, the Quantity and the Price. Step 2 -- Writing query for inserting record Now to insert in table, SQL query would be: Insert into Inventory (id,Product,quantity,price) values (1,'abc',12,255.32); Make sure that each value is separated by a comma. Once done, simply press F5 to execute the query. At the bottom, in the messages section, a message will appear about table rows that have been affected. Step 3 -- Another Method of Insertion We can also insert data in a table by simply giving the values straight away. For that just write the following query: Insert into Inventory values (1,'ab2',30,300.36); Make sure that the values in query in SQL inserted into table are in the same order as the order of columns in the table. Now let's execute this query and in the messages section, you can see the rows that have been affected. To insert in table, SQL queries are required to be written with much care as error can arise if we just miss to insert ellipsis even. Step 4 -- Viewing Table Data Now let's check the table to see if the data has been inserted correctly. For that let us fetch all records from the inventory table and for that, write: Select * from inventory When we execute the query, you can see all the records in the results section below, and they are exactly the same as we mentioned in the query in earlier steps. Step 5 --Alternate Method of inserting data To insert in table, SQL provides another way through which we don't have to write SQL insert into table queries. For that, just right click on the inventory table and choose the 'Edit top 200 rows' option. Step 6 -- Inserting data in Fields Over here, we can start inserting the data in the table straight away, without using the queries. All we have to do is type the records in the fields and press enter to save the changes made in each field. And that is how data is inserted in tables in SQL using insert keyword.

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to make use of check constraint. PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

As we know, the main components in databases are the tables, in which the data actually resides. Tables contain rows and columns, where columns act like the entity identifiers such as employee name, employee salary etc and rows contain the data values for those entities. So in this tutorial we will see how to create tables in SQL Server. Step 1 -- Navigating to the Desired Database Creating tables in SQL server is very easy. It can be done via commands which have to be written in the Query Editor. For that, first of all, let's move to the database where the table has to be created. Expand the Databases folders from top and further expand the required database inside which table has to be created. After that, right click on that Database and open up the Query Editor. Step 2 -- Creating Table In the Query Editor we will write the following queries: create table Inventory ( ID int, Product varchar(50), Quantity int, Price decimal (18,2) ); The query here means that we are interested to create a new table which would be called Inventory. It will have an ID column for the Product Ids and its Data type would be an Integer. It will have a column for Products containing the product names, so its data type would be Varchar. It will also contain a Quantity field with Integer set as its data type And last of all, a column for Price that will accept data as real numbers. Therefore we will declare its type as decimal and set its maximum length as 18 with a precision of 2 decimal places. After that is done, click on the Execute Button on top. A message will appear below the Query Editor that the query has been executed successfully. Step 3 -- Identifying the Table Now for verifying whether the table has been made, just click on the Tables icon and then on the Refresh Icon, located under the Object Explorer. With that done, our newly created Inventory table would appear over there. Click on the Inventory table and expand its columns. The fields would appear to be created exactly like we had mentioned in the query earlier. Step 4 -- Drop Table Now let's move on to how to drop tables in SQL. To delete a table and all of its contents, we use the DROP table command in SQL. Over here, let's drop the table we just made. For that, simply write: drop table Inventory With that done, let's execute the command. Now when we will Refresh the Object Explorer, we can see that the Inventory table has been deleted. And that was how to create table in SQL.

Finally, in web.config specify database connection string and SqlCacheDependency. Notice that, we have set pollTime="2000". pollTime attribute specifies the frequency, at which, asp.net is going to check the database for changes. This time is in milli-seconds. Since, we have specified 2000 milli-seconds, asp.net is going to check the database for changes every 2 seconds. The default is 500 milli-seconds. Run the application and when we click "Get Products" button for the first time, data is loaded from database. Click again, the data should be loaded from cache. Now, execute the following UPDATE query. Update tblProducts set Name='Laptops' where Id = 1 Now, click the button again, and notice that the data is loaded from the database, as existing data is removed from cache.

Select [Name], (Select SUM(QuantitySold) from tblProductSales where ProductId = tblProducts.Id) as TotalQuantity from tblProducts order by Name Query with an equivalent join that produces the same result. Select [Name], SUM(QuantitySold) as TotalQuantity from tblProducts left join tblProductSales on tblProducts.Id = tblProductSales.ProductId group by [Name] order by Name From these examples, it should be very clear that, a subquery is simply a select statement, that returns a single value and can be nested inside a SELECT, UPDATE, INSERT, or DELETE statement. It is also possible to nest a subquery inside another subquery. According to MSDN, subqueries can be nested upto 32 levels. Subqueries are always encolsed in paranthesis and are also called as inner queries, and the query containing the subquery is called as outer query. In this tutorial, you'll learn the difference between delete/drop and truncate. PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

Hi, In this video I am gonna discuss about joins in sql server. Joins play a vital role in retrieving data from 2 or more tables in SQL SERVER. JOIN is the keyword which is used to link 2 or more table and get the required data based on the matching criteria in the joined tables. INNER JOIN is the the most commonly used JOIN in SQL SERVER. INNER JOIN will retrieve the data only if the criteria is satisfied in both the tables. LEFT OUTER JOIN or LEFT JOIN is used to retrieve complete data from left side table and matching data from right side table. RIGHT OUTER JOIN or RIGHT JOIN is used to retrieve matching data from left side table and complete data from right side table. FULL OUTER JOIN or FULL JOIN is used to retrieve complete data from left side table as well as complete data from right side table. That is CROSS JOIN will be a many to many relationship. As the name Suggests SELF JOIN is joining a table with it self. Often a table needs to be self joined to fetch the required results.
