You ever looked out at the open sea and thought, “What if I got swept away out there? What would happen to me?” Well, luckily for most of us, this is an unlikely scenario for a typical beach-goer. But this nightmare can come true if you're a fisherman and something has gone terribly wrong on your trip. That's exactly what happened to one man who spent over a year alone out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. His boat had neither a cabin nor any roof. And he even didn't have an anchor since he supposed that the trip wasn't going to take that long... His plan was pretty ambitious: he was going to spend 30 hours in the open ocean. - This trip was gonna be dangerous, and, naturally, the man couldn't hit the water without a second pair of hands. He found a 22-year-old volunteer who agreed step in to. - Alvarenga knew that a storm was rapidly approaching the area, but nothing could stop the fishermen from starting the journey. One good catch would be a week’s-worth of salary. - That’s when the heavy rain started – the storm had reached the men. Alvarenga had to take drastic measures. He dumped all the fish and several thousand dollars-worth of equipment into the ocean. - Several vessels and aircraft started a search-and-rescue operation that lasted for two days. But the weather was gradually getting worse, and it eventually became impossible to keep searching. - Alvarenga and his fishing partner were left on their own. And 5 days later, when the winds had died down a bit, they were 280 miles away from the shore, out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, with nothing but blue water all around them. - During their voyage, they fed themselves on raw fish and turtles that they’d caught with their bare hands. They also grabbed birds that were unlucky enough to land on the boat. - But they were getting weak, especially Alvarenga’s fishing partner. Tragically, he did fall ill and wasn’t able to survive. - The fisherman spent months adrift in the ocean. The boat kept going until one day he saw land! It was a small island, Tile Islet, that was part of the Marshall Islands. - It turned out that Alvarenga had traveled almost 7,000 miles before he got to the shore. And he was fortunate to come across the island. - After 11 days of rest and recuperation, the rescued fisherman had recovered enough to fly home to El Salvador. Chinese native Poon Lim was a steward on a British ship during World War II that was traveling from Cape Town to Surinam. The Germans intercepted the boat 750 miles east of the Amazon, and a pair of torpedoes sank the ship in two minutes. Lim was the only man of the 53 on board to survive the attack. He would hold the world record for time spent surviving as a castaway adrift at sea. Subscribe to The Story Behind https://is.gd/hixAAr Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/

And for this they don't have to make great discoveries or compose symphonies. They simply do absolutely incredible things in a different way. They challenge themselves and the forces of nature to show that the human body is capable of great things. Seeing these characters in action is more interesting than any popular television series. But, like any good series, these stories are still great if you see them some time after they appear. So who are these people who have achieved the impossible?

A teenager has been rescued after surviving for 49 days adrift at sea in a fishing hut. Aldi Novel Adilang, 19, from Sulawesi in Indonesia, works as a lamp keeper on a floating fish trap, known locally as rompong, 125km out at sea. In mid-July, heavy winds snapped its moorings and it drifted to the ocean. The teenager had a few days' worth of supplies and survived by catching fish and cooking them by burning wood from his hut; he sipped seawater through his clothing to minimise his salt intake. The Indonesian consulate in Osaka said a Panamanian-flagged vessel, MV Arpeggio, picked him up in waters off Guam on 31 August – more than a month and a half later. Videos are focused on primitive skills, rewilding, nature awareness, living off the land, off grid living, indigenous skills, shelter building, primitive fire, water purification, trapping, hunting, bow making, flint knapping, primitive pottery, basketry, edible and medicinal plant preparation and numerous indigenous skills. I began studying wilderness survival when I was 17 in order to have the ability to spend extensive periods of time in nature, seeking out empowerment and without the need for external sources. I began studying in 1993 under Tom Brown Jr eventually teaching for Tracker Inc. I sought-out every old Native American teacher I could and eventually traveled the world living in very remote indigenous villages in the Amazon, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Peru. My school teaches survival and primitive skills, nature awareness, how to live off the land, re-wilding, prepare for disasters. I strongly believe that experiencing survival living changes the way people approach their entire lives.

Most of us adore beach resorts and go to one of the large saltwater bodies at least once a year. However, we shouldn’t forget that the sea is as attractive as it is wayward. We at Bright Side wondered how a person who happened to be in the open sea should behave. It turns out there are several rules that aren’t at all difficult to remember. Despair is your most dangerous enemy. Don’t give up hope of being saved. There are many stories of people who were found in the open sea months after their disappearance. For instance, 25-year-old sailor Poon Lim, who worked on a British merchant ship, survived alone 133 days in the open sea. After a shipwreck, he managed to find a raft with fresh water, cookies, flares, and a flashlight. Every day, Lim ate only 2 cookies and made 3 sips of water. To avoid muscle atrophy, he even floated around the raft twice a day. As you can see, human possibilities are endless. The main thing is to keep calm and hope for the best. TIMESTAMPS Calm down 0:35 Choose the right swimming style 0:57 Find something that floats 1:37 Take care of clothes 1:55 Decide what you’ll eat 2:16 Provide yourself with liquid 3:01 Save yourself properly 4:02 Don’t lose hope 5:06 SUMMARY: - Panic definitely won’t help you. It can cloud your judgment and make you lose the rhythm of breathing. Therefore, the first thing you should do is to calm down. - The style of swimming you choose determines how long your strength will last. In calm water, it’s better to swim on your back. If waves splash around you, it’s better to swim on your belly. - If you’re in the open sea as a result of a shipwreck or an airplane water landing, there must be plenty of things around you that perfectly keep afloat. It will be even better if it’s a boat or a raft with which ships are equipped. - Remember that open sunlight can be extremely dangerous. So don’t remove your clothes — they’ll protect you from the sun. - If you have rations, divide them into small daily portions. This will make them last for a long time, and you won’t have problems with digestion. - Try to fish even if you have stores of food. After all, fish contain some liquid. - You have to consume the liquid constantly but never drink seawater. - Try to ensure that you always have a couple of empty containers left for collecting rainwater. According to studies, drinking untreated rainwater is safe for your health. - • If you found fluorescein, dissolve it in the water when you see an airplane or ship. It forms a bright spot around you which can be easily seen from the air and from afar. The deep blue, a cobalt expanse of awe and wonder. Is it a marvel of our own unique world or a dormant terror that breeds nightmares and thrives on peril? That may sound dramatic, but consider the tales of these recreational and professional mariners. Music : Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ Disclaimer- Some contents are used for educational purpose under fair use. Watch this video in Hindi here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzxV-UDJ1gI&t=3s On innumerable occasions, we have heard and at times seen people tripping, falling from steps or a ladder and getting their bones broken, at times gravely injuring themselves and at times escaping with minor bruises. Some falls even end up being fatal! But you know what is weird- when we hear these miraculous, one in a million insane survival stories of people who fall from an airplane in the sky, get up, dust off and live to tell the tale. This video is about 6 such people who survived the impossible! Vesna Vulovic was a 23 year old flight attendant on Yugoslav Airlines which was enroute from Stockholm to Belgrade on 26th January 1972. The plane crashed against the snowed slope of a mountain in Czechoslovakia. All the passengers and the crew died in the crash except for Vesna Vulovic. Although her condition was critical, she was miraculously found alive. Vesna spent 27 days in coma and when she came out of coma she first asked the doctor for a cigarette. She had no memory of the crash. She recovered fully after 17 months and continued to fly with Yugoslav Airlines for 20 more years. She holds the Guinness world record for the highest free fall without a parachute and Paul McCartney awarded her the prize in a ceremony in London. South African Christine McKenzie was a veteran skydiver who was on her 112th jump. And then everything that could possibly go wrong did! As she was falling from a height of 11000 feet, she pulled her ripcord to open the parachute. To her horror, she discovered that the main chute failed to deploy. But skydivers generally have a reserve chute for backup. So, she released the backup and yep, you guessed it! That too failed! As she was hurtling towards a certain death at 100 mph, she crashed into power cables which helped to slow her impact to the ground. The power cables broke her fall and she found herself still alive after flopping to the ground below. Christine only suffered mild bruises and a cracked pelvis. Now, just imagine if an aircraft is struck by lightning mid-air, at a height of around 10,000 feet, and breaks up in two and plummets down to earth…..what would be chances of survival, if one were a passenger who is strapped to her seat with a seatbelt? Close to zilch or extremely improbable, right? Well, this is exactly what happened with Ms. Juliane Koepcke, who was travelling with her mother. Not only did Juliane survive the crash, but what’s more unbelievable is that she got away with just a broken collarbone, a gash to her right arm, and a swollen right eye. As if this was not challenging enough, she had to survive close to 9 days through thick forests with very little food, before she reached civilisation wading through knee-high water streams. Juliane moved to Germany after this near-death experience, became a biologist, received a doctorate and in later years, went back to Peru to conduct research! Equally astounding is the survival of Bahia Bakari, a 15-year old French school girl who was travelling in the Yemenia flight. Unfortunately, all the other 151 passengers and crew of the ill-fated aircraft perished, except Bahia. Bahia had to overcome another challenge, as she barely knew how to swim and did not have a life vest. She somehow managed to hold on to the wreckage for around 13 hours before she was rescued by a private ship. She was totally exhausted after the ordeal, and could not cling on to the life preserver thrown to her from the ship’s deck. One of the sailors had to jump overboard and hand her a float, and then she was pulled up to the ship safely. Nicholas Alkemade was a 21-year old Flight Sergeant. In March 1944, Nick was flying to the east of Germany, when his plane was attacked. The plane caught fire and spiralled out of control. As his parachute had caught fire, Nick decided that jumping would be a faster and less painful death, rather than getting burnt in the aircraft. He jumped from 18,000 feet above the ground but luckily, his fall was broken by pine trees and he landed on soft snow covering on the ground below. To his utter surprise, he was able to move his arms and legs and only had a sprained leg! So, I guess those who are destined to live, nothing; absolutely nothing, not even a fall from an airplane can them! I hope you enjoyed the stories as much as I enjoyed narrating them! Please do like, share and subscribe. Thanks for watching and I will see you in my next!

(Source: Muhammad Lila/Twitter) Indonesian teenager was rescued after surviving 49 days adrift at sea in a ‘rompong’, a floating fish trap that does not support paddles or engine. According to a BBC report, Aldi Novel Adilang, 18, who was 125 km off the Indonesian coast in mid-July, was left stranded when heavy winds snapped the moorings of the fishing hut he was employed at. The young boy ended up thousands of kilometres from away near Guam, where he was finally rescued by a Panamanian vessel. Adilang was rescued around 1,200 miles from his original location and returned to Indonesia earlier this month an NBC report stated. The boy was employed since the age of 16 as a lamplighter. “I was on the raft for one month and 18 days. My food ran out after the first week,” Adilang told the American news company. When it didn’t rain for days, he said: “I had to soak my clothes in the sea, then I squeezed and drank the water.” Adilang told the news company that though the raft was anchored with ropes, friction had caused them to snap. Adilang said he never thought he would meet his parents again. Though the teen’s father Alfian Adilang is overjoyed by the boy’s return, however, he is angry with the employer.

How an Indonesian teenager who survived 49 days adrift at sea was rescued A teenager has been rescued after surviving for 49 days adrift at sea in a fishing hut.

A man who went missing at sea more than two months ago was rescued from his capsized sailboat off the North Carolina coast on Thursday. He claims he survived on pancakes, rainwater and fish. The crew of a German container ship spotted Louis Jordan sitting on his overturned boat, the 35-foot Angel, 66 days after his family reported him missing in January. A Coast Guard helicopter crew from North Carolina airlifted Jordan, 37, from the ship to a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, on Thursday night. http://feeds.mashable.com/~r/Mashable/~3/bPQUY6rHANA/ http://www.wochit.com
