SQL: Extract function
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to make use of extract function. PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

Java JDBC Tutorial – Part 10: BLOB - Reading and Writing BLOB with MySQL

Welcome back to another tutorial on Java JDBC. In this video we're going to learn how to read and write BLOBs. For this tutorial we're going to use the employees table. I have a SQL script that will create the table and add sample data for you. You can download it from the link below. The file is sql/table-setup.sql. Time - 00:28 So what exactly is a BLOB? Well a BLOB is basically binary data that we store in the database. You normally use BLOBs to keep track of documents, images, audio, or any other binary object that you have. Note that not all databases have support for BLOBs. In this example we’re going to make use of MySQL and they have BLOB support. Time - 00:48 On this slide we will learn how to create a BLOB column. So when we create a table in MySQL we add a column with the BLOB data type. On this slide I want to learn how to write a BLOB to a database. For this example I'm going to add a resume for an employee. I'm going to read a local PDF file and I'll take that file and update the database with the binary data that's the actual content of PDF file. Let's walk through the code. Time - 01:17 At the beginning I’ll set up a SQL statement. I’ll say update employees set resume equals to question mark where the email address equals [email protected] We’re only going to make a change for this John Doe employee, set up a prepared statement, and then I go, we’re going to create a file that's an actual handle to the local file sample_resume.pdf. Then I’ll set, on my statement I’ll set the binary stream, that first parameter for the resume comma the input. That's the input stream I have for that file. Then I actually call my statement .executeUpdate. That will actually update the database with the binary data. Time - 01:54 All right so let's switch over to Eclipse and let’s look at a very simple demo. I have a program called WriteBlobDemo. In this program we're going to actually read a resume from a local file system and write it as a BLOB to the database. I’ll walk through the code here. The first thing we do is we get a connection to the database. We prepare a statement. We're going to update employees, set resume equals to question mark where email equals [email protected] So we’re going to update the resume for John Doe. Time - 02:22 Then I’ll move down, I’ll set up a file handle for this file sample_resume.pdf. I’ll set up an input stream on that file and then I’ll set that as the parameter for our binary stream for our prepared statement. Then I’ll move through and I’ll actually do an execute update. This will actually store this binary file from the file system into the actual database column. Time - 02:47 I just ran the application and here's the output of the program. So beginning it says that it’s reading the file and gives me the full path to the file just for sanity sake, I know which file is actually reading. Then it tells me that it's storing the resume in the database for our employee [email protected] and then it says that it completed successfully. Excellent. Time - 03:10 Now let's move over to MySQL tool and verify this. I'll take a look at the employees there in the database right now. l’ll run this query select * from employees and I'll get a list of the actual employees. Notice here for John Doe there’s an entry here for a resume, there's a BLOB entry. Note all the other entries are null. So we have a BLOB entry here. I can select this entry. I can right click. I can say, “Open Value in Editor” and it’s going to show me this BLOB. Again, it's a binary large object so we see all this binary data. Actually it should be displayed as hex. Time - 03:50 Instead of looking at it in this fashion there's a tab here called “Image.” I can select this tab and now it'll actually show me this image or the actual data as a PDF that I can view. This is the actual PDF document for this employee, John Doe. This looks really good. We know that we were successful in storing the BLOB in the actual database. Time - 04:18 Now that we know how to write BLOBs in the database let's learn how to read a BLOB from the database. In this example I'm going to read the employee’s resume from the database as a BLOB and then store it as a file on my local files system. Let's walk through the code. [snip] .... see the Transcripts tab for details.

Extract Tables From PDF to Excel, CSV or Google Sheet with Docparser
In this video we will show you how to extract tables from PDFs or scanned documents. You will learn how to convert native PDFs to Excel and how to apply OCR in case you are dealing with scanned documents. As sample documents we are using invoices and purchase orders following a fixed format. The technique of converting a PDF into Excel format can also be applied to other documents types. Check out our related blog articles: PDF to Excel: https://docparser.com/blog/convert-pdf-to-excel/ PDF to CSV: https://docparser.com/blog/convert-pdf-csv-extract-text-from-pdf/ PDF to Google Sheets: https://docparser.com/blog/pdf-to-google-sheets/ Let’s jump right in and create a new Document Parser. In this screencast we will choose ‘Purchase Orders’ as the document format. After confirming our document type we will upload a couple of sample documents. Once we are done uploading our sample documents we can proceed to our new Document Parser. As for invoice processing, Docparser comes with powerful data extraction algorithms tailored to parsing purchase orders. As we can see, Docparser already created three parsing rules which extracted the purchase order number, the purchase order date and the totals. We will now create a new parsing rule to extract the line-items from our purchase orders. Selecting the ‘Line-Items’ preset will bring us to the table extraction toolkit. All you need to do is to move, add or delete column spacers as needed to define the columns of your table. Then select the approximate outer boundary of the data table you seek to extract. When you proceed, you will see your parsed table rows in raw unfiltered format on the top. At this point we basically already converted our PDF into a spreadsheet data. You can now chain up multiple filters to further process your PDF table data until you end up with clean table rows. Docparser offers a variety of table manipulation filters. For example, you can add a filter which groups rows together in case the line-item descriptions goes over two lines. Adding this additional filter gives us a clean table representation of the line items in our purchase order. Let’s hit save and leave the parsing rule editor. We can now flip through the sample purchase orders which we uploaded previously. As you can see, all purchase order data is extracted correctly, including all line-items. That’s it for today! We just showed you how easy it is to extract data from PDF to Excel, CSV or Google Sheets. Stay tuned for more screencasts covering advanced parsing setup and automating your workflow thanks to our Docparser integration partners.

Excel: How to Best Import External Data into Excel & Import data from the Web to Excel
Get the full course: https://courses.xelplus.com Excel has various tools that can help you easily clean up your raw data for further analysis. Apart from using formulas and formatting, there are two useful Excel features that let you easily clean up. One method is text to columns feature and the other to import external data. The Get External Data tool can be used to import and analyse data from other systems. This tool is also useful for importing data to run your dashboards or do further analysis using pivot tables, etc. Usually you can get data extracts from any system (e.g. “.dat” or “.csv” from Oracle, “.xml” files from SAP, etc.). These can be imported into Excel. Importing External Data also gives you control over the decimals and thousand separator, especially if you’re dealing with international companies. In the US, the decimal is dot and the comma is a thousand separator and in most European countries it’s the other way round, where the comma is a decimal and the dot a thousand separator. It’s always safest to Import it properly with the Excel Data Import wizard! After importing press Ctrl + T to create a table out of it. You can create a pivot table off this one, and when you do, even if you add more data to it, the pivot reflects the new data. Importing Data from the Web / Internet into Excel – creating web queries that refresh automatically: In Excel you can also import data directly from the web. You basically create a web query which you set to refresh automatically based on your preference. ★ My Online Excel Courses ► https://courses.xelplus.com/ ✉ Subscribe & get my TOP 10 Excel formulas e-book for free https://www.xelplus.com/free-ebook/ EXCEL RESOURCES I Recommend: https://www.xelplus.com/resources/

Importing Data from Excel into Oracle Database using SQL Developer 4.1
One of SQL Developer’s most popular features has undergone a significant upgrade. Users can quickly define and recall delimited or Excel files to be imported to a new or existing Oracle table. Data preview and validation is provided for each column, as well as ‘best guess’ data type and date format mask mapping. This process can now be automated via the SQL Developer command line interface (SDCLI) ‘Import’ command. NOTE: This is a video only. There is no audio. Copyright © 2015 Oracle and/or its affiliates. Coding With Python :: Learn API Basics to Grab Data with Python
Coding With Python :: Learn API Basics to Grab Data with Python This is a basic introduction to using APIs. APIs are the "glue" that keep a lot of web applications running and thriving. Without APIs much of the internet services you love might not even exist! APIs are easy way to connect with other websites & web services to use their data to make your site or application even better. This simple tutorial gives you the basics of how you can access this data and use it. If you want to know if a website has an api, just search "Facebook API" or "Twitter API" or "Foursquare API" on google. Some APIs are easy to use (like Locu's API which we use in this video) some are more complicated (Facebook's API is more complicated than Locu's). More about APIs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Api Code from the video: http://pastebin.com/tFeFvbXp If you want to learn more about using APIs with Django, learn at http://CodingForEntrepreneurs.com for just $25/month. We apply what we learn here into a Django web application in the GeoLocator project. The Try Django Tutorial Series is designed to help you get used to using Django in building a basic landing page (also known as splash page or MVP landing page) so you can collect data from potential users. Collecting this data will prove as verification (or validation) that your project is worth building. Furthermore, we also show you how to implement a Paypal Button so you can also accept payments. Django is awesome and very simple to get started. Step-by-step tutorials are to help you understand the workflow, get you started doing something real, then it is our goal to have you asking questions... "Why did I do X?" or "How would I do Y?" These are questions you wouldn't know to ask otherwise. Questions, after all, lead to answers.
