This Voyage (25/09/2016 - 05/10/2016) on Ms Nordnorge from Hurtigruten was filled with extremely active Northern Lights displays. The Aurora amazed us more than 5 nights on an 11 day Voyage! Experience the majestic phenomenon that is the Aurora Borealis. This video composed of still images and timelapse gives a nice picture of the good fortune we have living in Fairbanks, Alaska where we see the Northern Lights consistently throughout the dark season. What to Wear in Finland - Northern Lights Trip
This may seem obvious to most but it wasn't to me. Hence, this video for those who come from tropical countries. You need to be prepared when visiting a place that gets down to -40 degrees. Of course you can just get to Helsinki and buy everything at a department store - they have everything - jackets, good padded boots, ski or insulated pants and all the accessories. A good jacket - rated to minus 30 or 40 is necessary and many layers on your torso. One layer of thermals on your legs is a good idea too. Northern Lights in Iceland | When & Where to See the Aurora
Iceland is a scarcely populated arctic island, with many wild, unpolluted places to see the Northern lights. Even though the lights of Reykjavik can't hide them, then they may be even brighter outside the city limits. When can I look for the Northern lights in Iceland ? I guess you could say we Icelanders are a bit privileged when it comes to the Northern lights, since we see so much of them and have them visible more than 8 months a year: From late August to the end of April. Any of those months is as likely as the next one to see some aurora activity, it just depends on your luck with the weather.

Winter is the best time to go, as the nights are longest at this time. It’ll be freezing cold but you can’t see the lights unless it’s dark. Go for as long as possible. You’ll often have cloud cover in Iceland. We were there for two weeks and only managed to see the Lights twice. Your best chance is to go somewhere where there’s no light pollution so get out of the city and go somewhere dark. We used the Icelandic weather website, belgingur.is. We found it the most accurate for predicting cloud cover. White areas show where the skies are clear and this gives you your best chance to see the Northern Lights. The second website we used was the Icelandic Met Office. Now this gives you the aurora forecasts, the stronger the better, sunset times and moonrise times. This just means that you can plan for when it gets dark.

Kiruna (Sweden) - Northern Lights
- First impressions (February 2016) - Kiruna (Swedish Lapland) is about 1,5 hour drive from the Abisko National Park. Abisko, in the middle of the auroral zone, is considered to be the best place on earth to see the Aurora Borealis. With its fresh, clear air and its practically permanent cloud-free sky the prerequisites in Abisko are optimal. More or less active northern lights can be seen almost every night.

Northern lights on the summer sky
Photographed from Skellefteå, Sweden on a sky lit by the sun not far below the horizon and the full moon. Still the aurora was easily seen on the live view of the camera and of course by the Eye.

Northern Lights Hunt With Hurtigruten
Northern Lights hunting through the fjords of Norway with Hurtigruten. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the Northern Lights attracts me and many others on a weeklong Norwegian coastal cruise with Hurtigruten. Guests have come all the way from China, Japan, the U.S. and Europe—united by a common goal. So what does it take to see the Northern Lights, exactly? “As long as we are north of the Arctic Circle, the only conditions we need to see the Northern Lights are clear skies and darkness,” said Bjørn Lemcke, assistant expedition leader on Hurtigruten’s Nordnorge. “We get many weird questions from guests about the Northern Lights. I always joke that I turn them on around midnight, and that I have a switch under my desk.” Sometimes the activity is strongest late at night, when guests are fast asleep. If you value seeing the lights over your beauty sleep, Bjørn suggests turning on the “info” button inside your cabin so that you can hear announcements about sightings on deck. “When the announcements are made, it’s crazy. Everyone will get up in the middle of the night if they haven’t seen it before,” he said. Not all the excitement takes place in the middle of the night, though. You might choose to spend the day admiring the Art Nouveau architecture in Alesund or walking up some 400 odd steps to the top of Mount Aksla. Perhaps you’ll try dog sledding at dusk in Tromso or take a winter walk in Bodo, through Viking graves and an ancient village. My favorite daytime excursion with Hurtigruten was a trip to the North Cape. A 1,000-foot cliff overlooks the northernmost point in Europe, and the untouched, barren landscape really makes you feel like you’ve reached the end of the earth. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you see the Northern Lights or what, lady? Well, the conditions were not in our favor for the majority of the cruise, with rain, snow and overcast weather. However, on our very last night onboard, after much perseverance and hours spent on deck, I finally caught a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis. Though they were not shining as brightly as they could have been, I was able to get some decent photos on my digital camera thanks to some handy tips provided by Bjørn and the rest of Hurtigruten’s Expedition Team. Aurora Borealis: Time-Lapse of the Northern Lights in Svolvær, Lofoten, Norway
It was such a blessing to be able to experience the Aurora Borealis in Svolvær this winter. We were very lucky with the weather and were able to see the Northern Lights every night while we were there. Due to time constraints, and the absolute freezing state of my fingers, I was only able to capture 3 short time lapse sequences of the Aurora. In this video I have edited them together. At the end there is also a daytime time-lapse from Henningsvær, a bit further out on the Lofoten Archipelago. Explore Fairbanks, Alaska During Aurora Season | August 21 - April 21
Fairbanks’ location is ideal for northern lights viewing because it is under the “Auroral Oval,” a ring-shaped zone over the far north where aurora activity is concentrated. Additionally, Fairbanks’ low precipitation and distance from coastal areas contribute to consistently clear nights. All combined these variables make the Fairbanks region an outstanding destination for possible aurora borealis viewing.

Amazing Northern Lights in Iceland
We spent one beautiful cold night in the Northern Iceland (Blönduos) and had luck to see the Northern Light for the first time in our lives. It was absolutely clear night sky and Aurora has been visible for many hours. After 5 hours outside we have been completely frozen but it has been definitely worth it and we made a lot of photos and one time-lapse video which you can see right here. EvosiaStudios.com/workshops/ Ephemeral is a film about the ever-changing state of nature. As humans, we expect everything to be the same -- day in and day out. But if we look to nature, we see that nothing lasts forever. The universe is in a constant state of change. Shot over 12 months, the film covers Iceland in its various states of change. From the long days of summer to the long nights of winter, the stunning colors of the midnight sun to the equally breathtaking northern lights, the green and lush summer to the snow-covered winter, Iceland is a great example of extreme opposites and drastic change when nature's elements come together in all of its beauty, growth and destruction. Tromsø, Norway Tourism 2018 4K
Tromsø Norway Tourism 2018 4K, Tromsø Norway Travel Vlog, Tromsø Norway Tourism & Vacations 2018 Travel Vlog 4K https://www.youtube.com/TravelVlog4K Tromsø is a city in the very northernmost part of Norway. It is almost 350 km north of the Arctic Circle and is one of the best places to view the spectacular Northern Lights in winter. Tromsø is a surprise to most visitors: Here you find art, history, sophistication, good food and an infamous nightlife in a bustling, tiny city. All of it, though, is surrounded by spectacular scenery that is visible from everywhere in town. The city is home to the world's northernmost university, as well as research institutes and satellite based industry. The population is therefore highly skilled, but retains the straightforwardness and sense of humour that the North is known for. See in Tromso, Norway =================== Tromsø's most visited attractions include Polaria, The Arctic Cathedral, The Cable Car, The Tromsø Museum, the Polar Museum and the Botanic Garden. Aurora -------- The Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights is a natural light phenomenon in the night sky. Tromsø is very favorably located for viewing the Northern Lights, but you cannot see the aurora at all times. Tromsø is within the aurora belt mostly between 6pm and midnight, occasionally between 4pm and 2am. It has to be dark for you to see it. Between late September and late March, it is dark after six, and you have maximum chances of seeing the lights. Clouds obstruct the view of the Northern Lights. October and November are humid autumn months, and often you don't see the lights. From December onwards, the weather is drier. March is THE driest month in this six-month period of good chances. Conclusion: December to mid/late March are the best times. Pick December/January for atmospheric visits in the dark, or February/March for thrilling outdoor activities. Sporty, outdoorsy people are recommended to come in March, as this month gives the opportunity to do outdoor activities in plenty of sunshine and good weather, and still observe the aurora after dark. The mid term holiday in February in many European countries is also a good time to come. Museums and galleries -------------------------------- Tromsø Museum (University Museum), Lars Thørings veg 10 (Take bus 37 from Fredrik Langes gate), ☎ +47 77 64 50 00,is a rather large museum with a number of different exhibits on the North. Avoid Sundays, as weekend daddies let their little monsters run screaming through the exhibits. In the summer of 2008 they invited everyone to a cup of coffee in "gammen", a traditional Sami turf house built outside the building Polar Museum, Søndre Tollbodgaten 11, ☎ +47 77 60 66 30, displays the Arctic Hunting that took place from Tromsø, as well as the expeditions to the Arctic. The museum is houses in an old warehouse from 1830. Perspektivet Museum, Storgata 95, ☎ +47 77 60 19 10, has temporary exhibits on the north. Their location in an 1838 building in the main street is superb, and there is free admission. The Northern Norwegian Art Museum (Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum), Sjøgata 1, ☎ +47 77 64 70 20, has art from Northern Norway from 1800 onwards, as well as Norwegian art in general. Look out for their temporary exhibits. The northern lights of Aberdeenshire
The aurora borealis or "northern lights", from Chapel Of Garioch, Aberdeenshire, one of the best places in the British Isles to view this amazing spectacle in the night skies. This time-lapse is a compilation of several displays during 2013,including the 13th January, 8th October, 14th October (from Drummore, Mull OF Galloway) 30th October, 9th November, 10th November (with airglow, and if you look closely, a dispersing meteor train ?), 30th November (with comet Lovejoy) and 15th December. Ive also included a couple of noctilucent cloud displays from the 1st and 4th July. It has been a pretty good year for displays, with 31 auroras in total, although around 10 of these were very minor, or viewed through heavy cloud cover. The only month I didn't see any auroras was June, in fact I've never seen an aurora in June, not all that surprising given the bright summer skies over Scotland. The highlight of the year for me has to the combined aurora and noctilucent cloud display on the 4th/5th August, which was just stunning.

Amazing view! Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) in the Arctic
An aurora is a natural light display in the sky particularly in the high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) regions, caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere (thermosphere). The charged particles originate in the magnetosphere and solar wind and, on Earth, are directed by the Earth's magnetic field into the atmosphere. In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the aurora borealis (or the northern lights), named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for the north wind, Boreas, by Pierre Gassendi in 1621. The northern lights have had a number of names throughout history. The Cree call this phenomenon the "Dance of the Spirits". In Europe, in the Middle Ages, the auroras were commonly believed a sign from God. Its southern counterpart, the aurora australis (or the southern lights), has almost identical features to the aurora borealis and changes simultaneously with changes in the northern auroral zone and is visible from high southern latitudes in Antarctica, South America, New Zealand and Australia.
