Power Of INDIAN NAVY - Deadliest Sea Warriors

07:55
The Indian Navy is the naval branch of the Indian Armed Forces. The President of India serves as Supreme Commander of the Indian Navy. The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), usually a four-star officer in the rank of Admiral, commands the navy. The Indian Navy is the fifth largest in the world. It played an important role in India's victory in the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. The Indian Navy can trace its lineage back to the East India Company's Marine which was founded in 1612 to protect British merchant shipping in the region. In 1793 the East India Company established its rule over eastern part of the Indian subcontinent i.e. Bengal, but it wasn't until 1830 that the colonial navy became known as Her Majesty's Indian Navy. In 1858, East India Company rule gave way to the British Raj which lasted until India became independent in 1947. When India became a republic in 1950, the Royal Indian Navy as it had been named since 1934 was renamed to Indian Navy. The 17th-century Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is considered as the 'Father of the Indian Navy'. The primary objective of the navy is to secure the nation's maritime borders; India also uses its navy to enhance its international relations through joint exercises, port visits and humanitarian missions, including disaster relief. In recent years, the Indian Navy has undergone rapid modernisation to replace its ageing equipment currently in service, this is often seen as part of "India's drive" to develop blue-water capabilities and enhance its position in the Indian Ocean region. As of 2016, the Indian Navy has a strength of 79,023 personnel and a large operational fleet consisting of two aircraft carriers, one amphibious transport dock, 9 landing ship tanks, 10 destroyers, 14 frigates, one nuclear-powered attack submarine, 14 conventionally-powered attack submarines, 24 corvettes, 6 mine countermeasure vessels, 27 patrol vessels, 4 fleet tankers and various other auxiliary vessels. What Do I NEED to Know about Sea Shipping & Freight Forwarding? TAS 308: The Amazing Seller

49:45
This Episode: •Tips for sea shipping products •Freight forwarding issues •The Flexport FF Solution Probably the most intimidating thing about sourcing products for private label sales from an overseas supplier is the issue of shipping. There are all kinds of issues that you have to be aware of including export licenses, taxes, when ownership of the products transfers to you (thus in indicating your liability), customs fees, and more. You can walk that path yourself or you can have someone help you. Scott definitely advises the later. Find out how it works on this great episode where Scott is chatting with Ryan Peterson, of Flexport. HOW RYAN STARTED THINKING ABOUT CREATING A FREIGHT FORWARDING COMPANY. It’s often the pain we experience ourselves that prompts us, entrepreneurs, to build something to solve that problem. That’s how it was for today’s guest, Ryan Peterson. Ryan had experienced some issues with his supplier and the sea shipping options that not only cost him a lot of money through fees and delays but also didn’t allow him to keep his products in stock as easily as he expected. He’d already worked in the overseas markets and figured he might be the guy to figure out some better systems to make things happen smoothly for others. Flexport is his solution. Find out more about Ryan and the Flexport story on this episode of The Amazing Seller. PRODUCT SHIPPING ISSUES CAN TRIP UP YOUR SALES PIPELINE IN A NUMBER OF WAYS. One of the many problems Ryan Peterson ran into that caused him to build the Flexport solution for purchasers of overseas products was regarding timing. What he discovered was that everything had to legally be done in a certain sequence. If it wasn’t, and his product was shipped before a certain requirement was met, the shipping company would charge him daily fees for having his products “stored” at their facility. It’s just one example of the kinds of headaches it can be to ship by sea. But there are answers and Ryan has built the solution, which you can hear about on this episode of The Amazing Seller. WHEN IT COMES TO DEALING WITH OVERSEAS SHIPPING, MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE TERMS. There are all kinds of acronyms and terms used in the sea shipping and freight forwarding that can get you confused. And if you choose the wrong options, thinking they are the right option (which is not entirely unheard of) you can wind up paying lots of money in the form of customs fees and taxes that you really didn’t have to pay. So how do you navigate a field of landmines like that? You need someone to guide you – and on this episode of the podcast, Scott has just the guy – Ryan Peterson of Flexport. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DEAL WITH YOUR FREIGHT ISSUES FOR PRIVATE LABEL PRODUCTS? If you’re sourcing your products from overseas – China in particular – you are going to have to decide how you are going to handle your shipping issues. You can do it yourself. It’s possible, but you have to know what you’re doing. Or you can hire a company to be the go-between and the one to ensure all steps are being followed properly. To help you make that decision Scott’s brought on an expert from the freight forwarding industry to help you understand the pros and cons of each option – and hopefully to make a good decision for your situation. Chinese Ice-class Cargo Ship Arrives at French Port

01:31
After a 33-day voyage, Chinese ice-class cargo ship Tian En, designated to transport cargo via the northeastern shipping route of the Polar Silk Road, arrived Thursday at Rouen port, France, where part of the cargo will be unloaded. In January 2018, China outlined its ambitions to extend the Belt and Road Initiative to the Arctic by developing Arctic shipping routes that would form a "Polar Silk Road". Under the guidance of French pilots, the cargo ship sailed into River Seine at 16:00 local time on Wednesday, and anchored at Rouen Port two hours later. Tian En, the first ice-class cargo ship developed by China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited, departed from Lianyungang Port in east China's Jiangsu Province on Aug 4. The ship sailed through the Yellow Sea, the Sea of Japan, the Okhotsk Sea, the Chukchi Sea, the Siberian Sea, the Laptev Sea, the Kara Sea, the Barents Sea and the North Sea in Europe, and finally arrived at the port in Europe. The voyage of Tian En covered more than 18,500 kilometers and lasted more than 30 days. The vessel is fully loaded with wind power generation equipment of 37,000 cubic meters imported by European countries including France, the Netherlands and Sweden. On many occasions of the voyage, the ship was besieged by large amounts of floating ice in the Arctic Ocean, and the speed of the ship once slowed down to less than 1km per hour. It also experienced challenges from icebergs, dense fogs and strong winds. Finally, it overcame many difficulties and dangers and successfully finished the mission. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20180906/8089928.shtml#!language=1 Welcome to subscribe us on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cctvnewscontent/ Video on Demand: www.cctvplus.com If you are in demand of this video footage, please contact with our business development team via email: [email protected]

Rolls-Royce | Waterjet Propulsion

02:58
The waterjet has many advantages over a propeller. The very high efficiency of the Kamewa waterjet pumps offer higher speeds for the same power or substantially lower fuel consumption at a constant speed with less power. Waterjets also give the engine an easier life. At constant rpm the waterjets absorb approximately the same power regardless of the vessel’s speed, so the engine cannot be overloaded, giving it a longer lifetime. Typically, waterjets produce less vibration and noise, improving passenger comfort levels. At speeds over 20 knots noise and vibration can be reduced by more than 50%. Waterjets for naval applications can be built for special requirements regarding signature, shock and other higher requirements. Rolls-Royce control systems offers excellent manoeuvrability, allowing vessels to be berthed quickly and with high precision. Our Kamewa waterjets are designed for ease of installation, in hulls made of different materials, reducing vessel build time and simplifying shipyard logistics. They can be supplied with steering and reversing buckets or as booster units providing forward thrust only. ADVANCED STEALTH US Navy LCS2 littoral combat ship

02:21
A great video of the US Navy LCS2 littoral combat ship this new ship incorporates stealth shaping and other new technologies. USS Independence (LCS-2) is the lead ship of the Independence-class littoral combat ship. She is the sixth ship of the United States Navy to be named for the concept of independence. The design was produced by the General Dynamics consortium for the Navy's LCS program, and competes with the Lockheed Martin-designed Freedom variant.[10] Independence, delivered to the Navy at the end of 2009, is a high-speed, small-crew corvette (although the U.S. Navy does not use the term) intended for operation in the littoral zone. She can swap out various systems to take on various missions, including finding and destroying mines, hunting submarines in and near shallow water, and fighting small boats (she is not intended to fight warships). The ship is a trimaran design with a wide beam above the waterline that supports a larger flight deck than those of the Navy's much larger destroyers and cruisers, as well as a large hangar and a similarly large mission bay below. The trimaran hull also exhibits low hydrodynamic drag, allowing efficient operation on two diesel-powered water jets at speeds up to 18 knots (33 km/h; 21 mph), and high-speed operation on two gas turbine-powered water jets at a sustainable 44 knots (81 km/h; 51 mph) and even faster for short periods. Name: USS Independence Awarded: 14 October 2005[1] Builder: Austal USA[1] Laid down: 19 January 2006[1] Launched: 26 April 2008[1] Christened: 4 October 2008 Commissioned: 16 January 2010[2] Homeport: San Diego[1] Status: In active service, as of 2015 Class & type: Independence-class littoral combat ship Displacement: 2,307 metric tons light, 3,104 metric tons full, 797 metric tons deadweight[1] Length: 127.4 m (418 ft)[1] Beam: 31.6 m (104 ft)[1] Draft: 14 ft (4.27 m)[1] Propulsion: 2× MTU Friedrichshafen 20V 8000 Series diesel engines, 2× General Electric LM2500 gas turbines,[3] 2× American VULKAN light weight multiple-section carbon fiber propulsion shaftlines, 4× Wärtsilä waterjets,[4] retractable bow-mounted azimuth thruster, 4× diesel generators Speed: 44 knots (51 mph; 81 km/h)[5] Range: 4,300 nm at 18 knots[6] Capacity: 210 t (210 long tons; 230 short tons) Complement: 40 core crew (8 officers, 32 enlisted) plus up to 35 mission crew Sensors and processing systems: SAAB Sea GIRAFFE 3D air and surface search radar[7] Sperry Marine BridgeMaster E navigational radar AN/KAX-2 electro-optical sensor with TV and FLIR Northrop Grumman ICMS (Integrated Combat Management System)[7] Electronic warfare & decoys: ITT Corporation ES-3601 ESM system[7] 4× SRBOC decoy launchers for chaff and infrared decoys[7] BAE Systems NULKA active radar decoy system[7] Armament: AGM-114L/N Hellfire missiles[8] 1× BAE Systems Mk 110 57 mm gun[9] 4× .50-cal guns (2 aft, 2 forward) 2× Mk44 Bushmaster II 30mm chain guns 1× Raytheon SeaRAM CIWS[7] Other weapons as part of mission modules Aircraft carried: 2× MH-60R/S Seahawk MQ-8 Fire Scout The design for Independence (LCS 2) is based on a high-speed trimaran (Benchijigua Express) hull built by Austal (Henderson, Australia). The 418-foot (127-meter) surface combatant design requires a crew of 40 sailors. With 11,000 cubic meters of payload volume, she was designed to carry two mission modules, allowing the ship to do multiple missions without having to be refitted. The flight deck, 1,030 m2 (11,100 sq ft), can support two SH-60 Seahawk helicopters, multiple UAVs, or one CH-53 Sea Stallion-class helicopter. The trimaran hull will allow flight operations up to sea state 5.[11] Independence carries a default armament for self-defense, and command and control. Unlike traditional combatants with fixed armament such as guns and missiles, tailored mission modules can be configured for one mission package at a time. Modules may consist of manned aircraft, unmanned vehicles, off-board sensors, or mission-manning detachments. The interior volume and payload is greater than some destroyers, allowing the ship to serve as a high-speed transport and maneuver platform. The 15,200 square feet (1,410 m2) mission bay takes up most of the deck below the hangar and flight deck. In addition to cargo or container-sized mission modules, the bay can carry four lanes of multiple Strykers, armored Humvees, and their associated troops. An elevator allows air transport of packages the size of a 20-foot-long (6.1 m) shipping container that can be moved into the mission bay while at sea. A side access ramp allows for vehicle roll-on/roll-off loading to a dock and allows the ship to transport the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle.[12] Bunks and living spaces are below the bridge. The helm is controlled by joysticks instead of traditional steering wheels.[13] Independence also has an integrated LOS Mast, Sea Giraffe 3D radar and SeaStar Safire FLIR.

The Strongest Multipurpose Ice Breaking Vessel - Umiak I

43:38
Umiak I is a purpose-built ice-strengthened bulk carrier constructed for the Voisey's Bay Nickel Company,[3] a wholly owned subsidiary of Vale Inco, to transport ore from the Voisey's Bay Mine. According to an article in the April 2006 issue of The Gossan an internal publication of the Voisey's Bay Nickel Company, the Umiak had completed her sea trials in Japan, and her delivery was expected in May 2006. “Umiak is the Inuktitut name for a supply boat or sometimes called a woman’s boat, and is a fitting name for a vessel carrying concentrate from Voisey’s Bay”.[4] Umiak I makes twelve trips per year, transporting a total of 360,000 tonnes of nickel concentrate, worth $1.5 billion CAD. Fednav also operates a similar ice-strengthened bulk carrier, Arctic, which shares the load with Umiak I. On 30 October 2012, Fednav announced it had ordered a third icebreaking cargo vessel from Universal Shipbuilding Corporation's Tsu shipyard in Japan. The Polar Class 4 vessel, Nunavik, entered service in January 2014. My channel:https://goo.gl/yxuIqm Like us in fb: https://www.facebook.com/seamanpages/... Please like share and subscribe. THE PAKISTAN NAVY’S CORVETTE OPTIONS

05:13
THE PAKISTAN NAVY’S CORVETTE OPTIONS Foreword: This is not a news story, but a piece for discussion. The details offered in this article are not authoritative pieces of information, but rather, perspectives of the author. The Pakistan Navy asserts that it is pursuing new surface warships to supplant its legacy systems, such as the Type 21/Tariq-class frigates, and to bolster its fleet. In wartime, the Pakistan Navy’s core mission is to deny India access to Pakistan’s littoral waters and to protect coastal economic assets, such as the Gwadar deep-sea port. This anti-access and area-denial (A2/AD) mission would mostly be done by the Navy’s air-independent propulsion (AIP)-powered submarines, coastal anti-ship missile (AShM) batteries, fast attack crafts (FAC) and aviation assets, both from the Navy and the Pakistan Air Force (PAF). However, there is a sense that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and the resulting (or hoped) increase in sea trade between Pakistan and the Arabian Peninsula, would warrant the need for surface ships to police Pakistan’s sea-lines-of-communication (SLOC) and exclusive economic zone (EEZ). For these to be relevant in wartime, Pakistan would need to revitalize its merchant navy, which is comprised of only 10 ships. The Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) would need to be much larger, and ideally, backed by a cadre of privately owned Pakistani shipping companies, to make the cost of guaranteeing wartime trade worthwhile for the Pakistani economy. In the absence of a merchant navy resurgence, the Pakistan Navy’s surface combatants will likely support the A2/AD mission in wartime conditions. Pakistan is also bound by the reality of limited fiscal means. For the foreseeable future, these factors will guide Pakistan to pursue lower cost surface warship designs. It is negotiating with Turkey for four MILGEM Ada corvettes, but details regarding its configuration are not yet known, though one could expect Pakistan to retain its anti-ship warfare (AShW) and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities. Ideally, the Pakistan Navy would also work with its Turkish contractor, Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik A.Ş. (STM), to incorporate vertical-launch system (VLS) cells for medium-range surface-to-air missiles (SAM). Interestingly, Delta Marine has an alternate design (i.e. LF-2400 Light Frigate) that seems to be a variant of the MILGEM, but with a revised bridge design that seems to offer ample room for VLS cells.

Ships Engines History

22:26
Marine propulsion is the mechanism or system used to generate thrust to move a ship or boat across water. While paddles and sails are still used on some smaller boats, most modern ships are propelled by mechanical systems consisting of an electric motor or engine turning a propeller, or less frequently, in pump-jets, an impeller. Marine engineering is the discipline concerned with the engineering design process of marine propulsion systems. https://tinyurl.com/ships-engines-history

Singapore World's Busiest Transshipment Port

47:18
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) regulates and licenses port and marine services and facilities. It also manages vessel traffic in the Singapore port while ensuring safety and security. The port section contains information, guidelines and procedures on matters relating to the port and its operations. The shipping section covers information on how to register a ship under the Singapore flag,as well as manning guidelines, procedures and requirements for owners and masters of Singapore-registered ships. MPA also posts circulars and notices to update the port and shipping community. Also important to the communities are information on port, shipping and other MPA tariffs. Available for download and reference is the maritime legislation of Singapore. As an active member of the international maritime community, MPA posts updates on IMO matters. Finally, we have information for seafarers of all nationalities, whether based in Singapore or visiting from overseas. At the crossroads of seaborne trade, Singapore’s interconnectivity makes it the preferred port of call for more than 130,000 vessels totalling some 1.5 billion gross tons. Singapore’s hub port is a complex stream of activity, handling a variety of cargoes at different terminals. About 30 million containers and 500 million tonnes of cargo are handled every year and more than 30 million tonnes of bunkers lifted annually. In addition, about a million visitors cruise into Singapore every year. Technology is at the heart of Singapore’s intelligent port. Advanced technology enables MPA to oversee port and marine service providers round-the-clock, making sure that services are safe and reliable. As Singapore’s national port planner, MPA is also responsible for the safe and optimal use of sea space and waterfront land. While our port can accommodate today’s largest ships, MPA is preparing for tomorrow’s increased cargo and mega ships by deepening channels and fairways, and developing the next generation of terminals. With guidelines, procedures and systems in place, MPA ensures that the port of Singapore remains safe, secure and clean while maintaining a high level of reliability, speed and efficiency in its operations. Maine Maritime Academy - Training Ship State of Maine departed May 5, 2018. We had the privilege to be able to film the experience for those who may of missed it. Make sure to check us out on facebook at www.facebook.com/downeastcowboy USNS Tanner (T-AGS-40), was built for the United States Navy as a fast oceanographic research vessel by Bethlehem Steel Corporation at its Sparrows Point Yard in Maryland in 1990. The vessel was the second oceanographic research ship to bear the name of Zera Luther Tanner, a noted oceanographer and inventor of a patented sounding machine. The vessel experienced catastrophic engine failure in 1993 and was laid up by the Navy and eventually transferred ownership to the Maritime Administration (MARAD). The ship lay idle in the James River Reserve Fleet until 1996 when she began a conversion process, which removed her underwater sonar domes and equipment. The two original engines were removed and a new power plant was installed. The newer engine is significantly less powerful than the old engines. The sister ship, Maury (T-AGS-39), now the third vessel of the name TS Golden Bear, retained the original and more powerful enterprise engines. The vessel was modified to increase the accommodations from 108 to 302 persons. New lifesaving equipment and upgrades to existing equipment were accomplished as well as enhancements to the habitability requirements of the vessel. She was delivered to Maine Maritime Academy on 6 June 1997 and sailed her maiden training cruise the following week. State of Maine was called into active duty by the Maritime Administration (MARAD) following Hurricane Katrina and provided living quarters for oil rig workers, who were working to repair damaged rigs, and for Federal Law Enforcement Officers assisting in New Orleans. The ship is normally docked at her pier in Castine when not on a training cruise or in drydock. State of Maine is classed with the American Bureau of Shipping, and all inspections of her hull and equipment are undertaken by this classification society. The ship entered drydock for scheduled maintenance and inspections following the summer cruise of 2007. She also entered drydock following the Summer Cruise of 2012, keeping within the inspection schedule required by US Coast Guard Regulations. Most recently, she entered drydock at the conclusion of her 2017 summer cruise. St. Lawrence Seaway: "Operation Inland Seas" 1960 US Navy; narrated by Glenn Ford

That summer, the U.S. Navy launched Operation Inland Seas, a massive public relations tour of the lakes by ships from the Atlantic Fleet. This 1960 documentary, narrated by Glenn Ford, tells the story." The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Inland_Seas Operation Inland Seas (or Sea) was a United States Navy operation to celebrate the completion of the Saint Lawrence Seaway in 1959. Task Force 47 (TF 47), a 28-ship detachment of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet under the command of Rear Admiral Edmund B. Taylor, sailed up the Saint Lawrence River to participate in the official opening of the Seaway by Queen Elizabeth II of Canada and U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower on June 26, 1959. Thereafter, the ships visited ports throughout the Great Lakes, sometimes escorting Queen Elizabeth aboard HMY Britannia... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Lawrence_Seaway The Saint Lawrence Seaway (French: la Voie Maritime du Saint-Laurent), is the common name for a system of locks, canals and channels that permits ocean-going vessels to travel from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes, as far inland as the western end of Lake Superior. The Seaway is named for the Saint Lawrence River, which flows from Lake Ontario to the Atlantic Ocean. Legally, the Seaway extends from Montreal, Quebec, to Lake Erie, and includes the Welland Canal. This section downstream of the Seaway is not a continuous canal, but rather it consists of several stretches of navigable channels within the river, a number of locks, as well as canals along the banks of the St. Lawrence River to bypass several rapids and dams along the way. A number of the locks are managed by the Canadian Saint Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation and others are managed by the American Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation... History The Saint Lawrence Seaway was preceded by a number of other canals. In 1871, locks on the Saint Lawrence allowed transit of vessels 186 ft (57 m) long, 44 ft 6 in (13.56 m) wide, and 9 ft (2.7 m) deep. The Welland Canal at that time allowed transit of vessels 142 ft (43 m) long, 26 ft (7.9 m) wide, and 10 ft (3.0 m) deep, but was generally too small to allow passage of larger ocean-going ships. The first proposals for a binational comprehensive deep waterway along the St. Lawrence came in the 1890s... In the post-1945 years, proposals to introduce tolls still could not induce the U.S. Congress to approve the project. Growing impatient, and with Ontario desperate for hydro-electricity, Canada began to consider "going it alone." This seized the imagination of Canadians, engendering a groundswell of St. Lawrence nationalism. Fueled by this support, the government of Louis St. Laurent decided over the course of 1951 and 1952 to construct the waterway alone, combined with the Moses-Saunders Power Dam (which would prove to be the joint responsibility of Ontario and New York: as a power dam would change the water levels, it required bilateral cooperation). However, the Truman and Eisenhower administrations considered it a national security threat for Canada to alone control the deep waterway, and used various means - such as delaying and stalling the Federal Power Commission license for the power aspect - until Congress in early 1954 approved an American seaway role via the Wiley-Dondero Act. Canada, out of concern for the ramifications of the bilateral relationship, reluctantly acquiesced... The seaway opened in 1959 and cost C$470 million, $336.2 million of which was paid by the Canadian government... There are six locks in the Saint Lawrence River portion of the Seaway... The seaway is important for American and Canadian international trade. Annually the seaway handles 40 to 50 million tons of cargo. About 50% of the cargo carried travels to and from international ports in Europe, Middle East and Africa. The rest comprises coastal trade between various American and Canadian ports... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMY_Britannia Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia is the former Royal Yacht of the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. She was the 83rd such vessel since the restoration of King Charles II in 1660. She is the second royal yacht to bear the name, the first being the famous racing cutter built for The Prince of Wales in 1893. 1st US Commercial Nuclear Reactor: "Atomic Power at Shippingport" ~ 1958 AEC-Westinghouse

Nuclear Weapons & War, Atomic Reactors & Radiation playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4CD7F0970A5F16AB more at http://scitech.quickfound.net/ "Tour of the first commercial nuclear power plant." Reupload of a previously uploaded film with improved video & sound. Public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied (the color was atrocious on this film, unsalvageable, so I removed it). The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shippingport_Atomic_Power_Station The Shippingport Atomic Power Station was the world's first full-scale atomic electric power plant devoted exclusively to peacetime uses. It was located near the present-day Beaver Valley Nuclear Generating Station on the Ohio River in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, USA, about 25 miles (40 km) from Pittsburgh. The reactor reached criticality on December 2, 1957, and remained in operation until October 1982. The first electrical power was produced on December 18, 1957 as engineers synchronized the plant with the distribution grid of Duquesne Light Company. Shippingport was created and operated under the auspices of Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, whose authority included a substantial role within the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). Its design team was headed by Alvin Radkowsky. Its final core was an experimental, light water moderated, thermal breeder reactor and is notable for its ability to transmute (inexpensive) Thorium 232 to Uranium 233 (the latter being the fissile material that fueled the reaction within the reactor core). The reactor was capable of an output of 60 MWe. The reactor was designed with two uses in mind: for powering military ships, and serving as a prototype for commercial electrical power generation. In 1977, it was converted to a Pressurized Light-Water Breeder Reactor (PLWBR). Over its 25-year life, the power plant operated for about 80,324 hours, producing about 7.4 billion kilowatt hours of electricity... Construction In 1953, US President Dwight D. Eisenhower gave his Atoms for Peace speech to the United Nations. Commercial nuclear power generation was cornerstone of his plan. A proposal by Duquesne Light Company was accepted by Admiral Rickover and the plans for the Shippingport Atomic Power Station started. Ground was broken on Labor Day, September 9, 1954. President Eisenhower remotely initiated the first scoop of dirt at the ceremony. The reactor first went critical at 4:30 AM on December 2, 1957. Sixteen days later, on December 18, the first electrical power was generated and full power was achieved on December 23, 1957, although the station remained in test mode. Eisenhower opened the Shippingport Atomic Power Station on May 26, 1958. The plant was built in 32 months at a cost of $72.5 million. Cores The Shippingport reactor was designed to accommodate different cores during its lifetime; three were used. The first, installed in 1957, held 4 tons of natural uranium and 165 pounds of high-enriched uranium. Seven years later it was retired, after having produced almost 2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity. The second core had increased generating capacity and instrumentation to measure performance. It began operating in 1965 and over the next nine years generated almost 3.5 billion kilowatt hours of electricity. In 1974 the turbine-generator suffered mechanical failure, causing the plant to be shut down. The third and final core was a light water breeder, which began operating in August 1977 and after testing was brought to full power by the end of that year. It used pellets made of thorium dioxide and uranium-233 oxide; initially the U233 content of the pellets was 5-6% in the seed region, 1.5-3% in the blanket region and none in the reflector region. It operated at 236 MWt, generating 60 MWe and ultimately produced over 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity. After five years the core was removed and found to contain nearly 1.4% more fissile material than when it was installed, demonstrating that breeding had occurred. Decommissioning On October 1, 1982, the reactor ceased operations after 25 years. Dismantlement of the facility began in September 1985. In December 1988, the 956-ton (870-T) reactor pressure vessel/neutron shield tank assembly was lifted out of the containment building and loaded onto land transportation equipment in preparation for removal from the site and shipment to a burial facility in Washington State. The site has been cleaned up and released for unrestricted use...

How To Apply A Ceramic Coating To Your Car !!

17:29
Learn how to apply a ceramic coating to your car! In this video, I show you all the steps needed to properly prepare your car’s paint and how to protect your paint with ceramic coatings. Ceramic coatings are a form of paint protection, like carnauba waxes and paint sealants, but they have better durability. Carnauba waxes typically last 2-3 months and synthetic paint sealants last 5-6 months on average. Consumer level ceramic coatings last 1 to 2 years if well maintained. Professional grade coatings can last upwards of 2 years, all the way up to 7 years. Ceramic coatings are highly hydrophobic, meaning they repel water extremely well. Ceramic coatings also have self-cleaning properties, meaning your paint will keep itself clean of dirt, much more than traditional waxes or sealants. They also add a lot of gloss to your car’s paint. Here's a recap of the main advantages of ceramic coatings: - extreme durability (1 to 2 years for commercial versions) - amazing gloss - extremely hydrophobic, so water beads and sheets off the paint - self-cleaning properties make the car easier to wash - UV protection Ceramic coatings are also known as glass coatings and nano coatings. They pretty much are mean the same thing, as the main active component in them is silica (SiO2) which forms a glass layer on your car's paint, giving it protection and gloss. For the purposes of this video, I will apply what I believe to be one of the best ceramic coatings (one of the best glass coatings) available to the public, the CarPro CQuartz UK Edition on my own BMW 435i xDrive Gran Coupe M Sport. 04:06
Carnival Sells 2 Costa Ships to New China Cruise Line In Joint Venture Carnival Cruise Lines has figured out a way to enter the Chinese cruise market by using the age old method of if you can't beat em, join em! Carnival and the China State Shipbuilding Corp have created a new cruise line called the CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited. This joint venture allows Carnival to enter the China cruise market and give the China State Shipbuilding Corp orders to build out new cruise ships. The first order of business was to have Carnival sell 2 Costa Cruise Lines ships to the new China Cruise company and then to order 2 new ships to be built with an option for 4 more. The first new cruise ship will be delivered by 2023 and the first Costa ship will transfer to the new cruise line at the end of 2019. #carnival #costa #CSSC Thinking about going on a cruise? US Navy LCS patrols over south China Sea to side with Philippine &Vietnam against China Power

USS Freedom (LCS 1) conducted patrols in the South China Sea during its maiden operational deployment to Southeast Asia, US Navy (USN) officials revealed on 6 January. Speaking with reporters, the admiral in charge of the USN's surface forces acknowledged that the navy's first Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) had executed a "standard patrol" in the South China Sea region during its 10-month presence in the Western Pacific. The revelation came to light two weeks after Freedom concluded its deployment, a deployment which saw the ship operate largely out of Changi Naval Base in Singapore and participated in training exercises with regional partners. "[The ship] was tasked to do some South China Sea patrols, in some areas that we have an interest in," Vice Admiral Tom Copeman, commander of US Naval Surface Forces, said during his telephone briefing from San Diego, California, where Freedom and its sister ships USS Independence (LCS 2) and USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) are home ported. A fourth ship, Coronado (LCS 4), is scheduled to join the fleet in April. During the South China Sea patrols, Freedom conducted surface surveillance using its radars and sensors just as any other USN ship in the fleet might on behalf of the US 7th Fleet commander, Adm Copeman said. "You're developing ... the maritime picture within the area in which your sensors can see," he explained. The crew also conducted flight operations in the area with Freedom 's embarked MH-60R helicopter, and also launched its 11 m rigid-hull inflatable boats to gather information about other vessels. Adm Copeman added that Freedom participated in 'Operation Damayan', the typhoon relief efforts in the Philippines, en route to Guam and its subsequent homeward transit across the Pacific. How One Cleantech Stock is Fighting Pollution on the High Seas

International Cargo Shipping Demand, including dry bulk, crude oil and container shipments is projected to grow by over 1 billion tons to 8 ½ billion by 2020 according to data from Global Insight’s World Trade Estimates. At the same time The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the International Marine Organization (IMO) recently enacted a series of new regulations designed to reduce emissions from large ships and improve air quality. Large ships such as container ships, tankers, bulk carriers, and cruise ships are significant contributors to air pollution in many of the world’s cities and ports. Commercial ships produce more than 1 million tons of CO2 PER DAY - That’s more than whole of UK, Canada or Brazil. Pacific Green Technologies, ticker PGTK, has developed a portfolio of Emissions Control Technologies for use in both power plant and marine applications. They have a veteran management team and a global footprint with offices in the U.S., Europe and China and they’re rolling out one of the most competitive technologies to date to help large ships with Category 3 diesel engines control emissions and meet increasingly strict environmental regulations now and into the future. They beat out competing technologies in 3 ways: 1. They’re cheaper to build - they’re smaller so take less material and labor to construct. 2. They’re cheaper to operate - their greater efficiency results in an 80% reduction in electricity consumption. 3. And they use less water. More cargo shipped means more ships, more fuel burned, more emissions and therefore greater demand for technologies to help the shipping industry meet IMO Tier II and Tier III regulations in the most cost effective manner possible. With an overall Emissions Control Catalyst market projected to be worth $16.09 Billion USD by 2021 - PGTK’s patented emissions control technology is well positioned to grab market share.
