FILM DESCRIPTION: A top London cop who is so good at his job that he makes his fellow officers look like slackers by comparison is "promoted" to serve in the sleepy village of Sandford in this contemporary action comedy from the creators of Shaun of the Dead. Police constable Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) always gets his man, but these days his impeccable record seems to be more indicative of his fellow officers' shortcomings than his own formidable skills as a keeper of the peace. Loathe to stand idly by as their once respectable track record is steadily soiled by the hyper-competent actions of one lone overachiever, Sergeant Angel's superiors at the Met soon determine to remedy their problem by relocating the decorated constable to the West Country village of Sanford -- where tranquil garden parties and neighborhood watch meetings stand in stark contrast to the violent crime and heated gunplay of the city. As Sergeant Angel does his best to adjust to the relative calm of his new environment, his oafish new partner Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) strives to gain the respect of his fellow constables while sustaining himself on fantasies of his favorite action films and police shows. Later, just as it begins to appear as if Sergeant Angel has been relegated to an uneventful existence in the relative calm of the countryside, a series of horrific "accidents" lead him to suspect that the tranquil hamlet of Sanford has fallen prey to a sinister plot which reeks of foul play. Jim Broadbent, Timothy Dalton, Steve Coogan, and Martin Freeman co-star in the Edgar Wright film. CREDITS: TM & © Universal (2007) Cast: David Bradley, Nick Frost, Karl Johnson, Simon Pegg Director: Edgar Wright Producers: Karen Beever, Eric Fellner, Nira Park, Ronaldo Vasconcellos, Natascha Wharton, Tim Bevan Screenwriters: Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright WHO ARE WE? Made in 1941 by the Ministry of Information, H.M. MINELAYER (sometimes also known as HMS MINELAYER ) shows life aboard a British mine laying vessel. This was perilous duty; nearly half the minelayers in the Abdiel class were sunk by enemy action during WWII. The most common use of the term "minelayer" is a naval ship used for deploying sea mines. In the Gallipoli Campaign of World War I, mines laid by the Ottoman Empire's Navy's Nusret sank HMS Irresistible, HMS Ocean, and the French battleship Bouvet in the Dardanelles on 18 March 1915. In World War II, the British employed the Abdiel-class minelayers both as minelayers and as transports to isolated garrisons, such as Malta and Tobruk. Their combination of high speed (up to 40 knots) and carrying capacity was highly valued. The French used the same concept for the cruiser Pluton. The Abdiel class were a class of six fast minelayers commissioned into the Royal Navy and active during the Second World War. They were also known as the Manxman class and as "mine-laying cruisers". These ships were armed with a wide variety of defensive weapons from 0.5-inch (12.7mm) machine guns to the 4-inch (100 mm) main armament. They were also equipped with a wide array of radars, along with their normal complement of mines. They were easily mistaken for destroyers. Of the six launched, half were lost through enemy action during the Second World War; the others saw post-war service, and the last example was scrapped in the early 1970s. A naval minelayer can vary considerably in size, from coastal boats of several hundred tonnes in displacement to destroyer-like ships of several thousand tonnes displacement. Apart from their loads of sea mines, most would also carry other weapons for self-defense. In modern times, few navies worldwide still possess minelaying vessels. The United States Navy, for example, uses aircraft to lay sea mines instead. Mines themselves have evolved from purely passive to active; for example the US CAPTOR (enCAPsulated TORpedo) that sits as a mine until detecting a target upon which a torpedo is launched. Mine hunters at sea. Four mine-sweeping ships at sea. Seamen on deck prepare to sweep buoyant mines. The sweep wire is unwound, it is trailed into the sea where it cuts mine moorings and releases mines to the surface. A mine pops up to the surface. On deck, marksmen shoot the mine with armour piercing bullets. The floating mine. The marksmen. The mine again. A mine-sweeper deals with influence mines from a distance - it uncoils electric cables which will trigger the mines. Seamen ease the cables over the ship's stern. An acoustic hammer - a metal cylinder to us - is lowered over the ship's side to detonate acoustic mines. Rattling pipes are lowered to trigger acoustic mines at other frequencies. Dial showing amperage. An acoustic hammer , noisy under water. A huge plume of water from an exploding mine. Mine sweepers sail in formation. Profile of one, M1204. The other ships. They sail several times over the same spot. Profile of minesweeper M1115. An outboard dinghy next to the ship. Officers give orders over a microphone. The dinghy and three crew - divers - leave the ship. Closer as they sail away. The minesweeper hull seen from underwater. Officer speaking into microphone. The dinghy as it gets further away. Officer again. Dinghy crew arrive over the mine. Officer again. Dinghy crew drop a time bomb. Officer again. A dinghy crew man checks his stopwatch and speeds away from the site. Mine and water explode.

NATO members conduct annual mine clearance and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) operation in the Baltic Sea. The aim of the operation is to clear World War I and World War II naval mines that could pose a threat to shipping and fisheries, from the bottom of the Baltic Sea. Footage includes various shots of the Latvian and Canadian dive teams during the operation. When the area around the sea mine was secured, the dive team then conducted a controlled underwater detonation. Factual, impartial and current. Here is my INERT mk17 world war two , ww2, Naval Sea Mine on its original sinker. It was originally on a Naval Mine sweeper Training vessel. I have the name of the ship which it came from which I obtained from the Royal Navy. It was one of 44 mines used in practice to train sailors to deploy these at sea. The mine is ww2, but these were used up to around the late 1970s. This was a sand filled drill mine. Let me stress... nothing dangerous contained in or on this, its a drill mine, a shell. It has its own original sinker. The way this works is very interesting. I will add a few films here in the next few months detailing how this works and is deployed. This mine is destined to go on public display at a local museum in the near future. The mechanisms are all intact. The spools, depth spools, weights all intact. The soluble plugs are also present. ( these have a salt pellet that dissolves in water in order to form a circuit) I will explain more in future films about these. There is a film on utube on minesweeping which i recommend It features these mines. I have a few of these!! One last thing.... ITS NOT FOR SALE!!!

Desperate men and children scour underwater mine-shafts in this terrifying report. Breathing through nothing more than a thin pipe connected to an air compressor, going 30 foot deep underwater for hours in search of gold is all in a day’s work for 16-year-old Gerald. "I'm afraid, if the earth collapses, I will get buried underneath" says the teenager. Surrounded by rock walls in the pitch black darkness of the water, the men chip away at walls for 3 hours. They find no gold. For many like Gerald school is a distant memory, and illegally diving for gold the only alternative to starvation. Hundreds of deaths by electrocution, drowning and even the possibility of Mercury poisoning have had little impact on compressor mining activities, which continue un-policed and unregulated. There appears little hope of change on the horizon. "If I could only give job opportunities - I will take them away from compressor mining. It is just that I have no alternative at this point" says Ricarte Padilla, Mayor of Jose Panganiban - Philippines' so-called "Gold Coast". As it is, the children and family men unearthing 60-80kg of gold per month see the lions share of wealth disappear into the Chinese black market. The world's largest ever exercise to protect shipping from sea mines is underway, with 35 naval ships - six of them British - currently taking part in the Arabian Gulf. It involves 41 countries and follows repeated threats from Iran to block the Straits of Hormuz and cut off a third of the world's oil supply. In the first of a series of reports from the region Forces News has been looking at how international naval forces are testing their ability to deal with a worst-case scenario.

U.S. Navy air warfare specialists hone their skills hunting sea mines. Nobody involved on this particular mission has ever come across a real sea mine. Nonetheless sailors in Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 15 practice a process known as mechanical sweeps on a routine basis. It's a methodical process in which a contraption designed to cut the chains anchoring sea mines is towed from an MH-53 helicopter flying at about 75 feet from the surface — often for hours up and down stretches of sea. It's for this reason that air warfare specialists aboard the MH-53s often refer to this operation as plowing the field, peeling the onion, or sea farming. Top cover back on, bolted down with bolts. The Mine is a practice mk17 mine, would have been filled with sand in the charge housing. Now is empty and completely inert. It started life in ww2 and converted to a practice mine by Royal Navy in the 1980s. Used on a ship practicing minesweeping. My next film will explain how it is deployed and sinks and works.

This 1967 unclassified training film designated for "official use only" instructs Marines on how to best identify and avoid Viet Cong mines and booby traps. Footage includes demonstrations of antipersonnel and anti-vehicle mine detonations, as well as close up depiction of sharpened bamboo man traps, bullet traps, repurposed US explosive device mines, fish line trip-wired grenade mines, noisemakers, buried mortar shells and other electronically or pressure detonated mines and booby traps. Narration urges Marines to stay alert and aware of these dangers by looking for signs of disturbance in the earth, or for signs left for neutral Vietnamese civilians. Narration also urges Marines to leave demolition of mines to trained engineers and demolition. The training film also details where mines and booby traps are most likely to be found: communication routes, foot paths, helicopter landing sites, rice paddy dikes, high grass, arid un-farmable land or foot bridges.

An overview of the progressive facilities at the Comrie Colliery coal mine in Scotland, with an emphasis on the steps taken to ensure worker welfare there. Trivia: When The New Mine was made in 1945, there were around 1000 coal mines operating in the UK. Today, there are less than a dozen. Described in The New Mine as a "pit-head of the new world", Comrie Colliery in Fife operated from 1936 to 1986. In spite of the film's optimistic claim that the mine would "stand the test of time", and comments on the safety of its operations, the Comrie Colliery site is now derelict. Despite The New Mine's praise for the cutting-edge techniques employed at the mine, the disused site was recently described by Fife Council as the "largest area of post-industrial dereliction in West Fife". The land around the mine, clearly discernible from above, is reported to be heavily polluted, contaminated with cyanide, and the 40 metre high pile of coal waste (seen forming in the film) has purportedly been burning since the 1970s. Nonetheless, there has recently been movement towards the redevelopment of the site. This film has been made available by the British Council Film Collection for non-commercial research and educational purposes . . This mine is typical of the many such 2WW mines used along our coasts and inlets over the Second World War period. It sits outside carrickfergus Castle. This looks to be a British MK 14 Sea Mine. A naval mine is a self-contained explosive device placed in water to damage or destroy surface ships or submarines. Unlike depth charges, mines are deposited and left to wait until they are triggered by the approach of, or contact with, an enemy vessel. Naval mines can be used offensively—to hamper enemy shipping movements or lock vessels into a harbour; or defensively—to protect friendly vessels and create "safe" zones.

NATO's MINE HUNTERS! Video features 'Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Groups' in minesweeping training. Oficial release: Stalking the Deep with NATO’s minehunters; Small, cheap and deadly – sea mines can bring maritime traffic to a screeching halt. To address this threat, NATO’s mine hunters patrol the waters 365 days a year. Sea mines are devastating weapons. Cheap to produce and relatively easy to field, they can make shipping lanes and straits impassable to military and civilian maritime traffic. Even the threat of sea mines can bring economies to a standstill. To address the threat of sea mines, the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Groups (SNMCMGs) patrol the Alliance’s waters 365 days a year. In this piece, the commander of SNMCMG2, which is currently charged with securing the Mediterranean Sea region, explains how NATO counters the danger of sea mines, and also how the flotilla provides a humanitarian service by neutralizing unexploded ordnance from conflicts past. Footage includes shots of the naval group at sea; shots of mine clearance divers entering the water; shots of underwater drones; and an interview with Commander Justin Hains, UK Royal Navy, who leads Group 2. Hains will turn over command of the group in July. About Standing NATO Maritime Groups: The four Standing Maritime Groups are multinational, integrated maritime forces made up of vessels from allied countries. These vessels are under continuous NATO command to perform a wide range of tasks ranging from deterrent presence and situational awareness to exercises and the conduct of operational missions. These groups provide NATO with an immediate operational response capability both in peacetime and in crisis. These four groups comprise the core of the maritime component of the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), providing timely maritime support to NATO operations in a contingency. US Coast Guard and navy personal were responding to what looked like an unexploded device drifting in the water near Seattle. It looks like an old World War Two sea mine.
