Pyura Chilensis: Sea Creature Looks Like "Grey Stone" But Inside A Delicacy in Chile

02:22
This rock is actually a bizarre creature- that can breed with itself. From the outside it looks like a grey stone, but if you cut it open there is a mass of blood-red hermaphrodites living inside. The living rock is basically a mass of organs surrounded by a layer of skin and muscle. If you stepped on it you would get a shock as it would burst open and spill the strange creatures, that are considered a delicacy in Central America. Lurking off the coast of Chile and Peru, the creepy creature is called Pyura chilensis – also known as Piure- in Spanish. It belongs to a group of sac-like marine life known as sea squirts. The bizarre animal cannot move and feeds by filtering in seawater and consuming the tiny algae before exhaling it back into the sea. The Pyura chilensis can also mate with itself. It’s born male, becomes hermaphroditic at puberty, and reproduces by tossing clouds of spperm and eggs into the surrounding water in the hope that they will collide. The Piure is known as a tunicate, so-called because it is covered in a layer or 'tunic' - of animal cellulose called tunicin. If they come together they form a 'fertile cloud' which will produce tiny tadpole-like offspring. Chileans eat the blobby animal raw or in stews and it has been described as tasting “bitter”, “soapy” and with an “iodine flavour". The grey bit around the creatures is actually made up of vanadium – a hard, silvery grey metal that occurs naturally in more than 60 different minerals around the world. Weirdly it is also the element used to make alloy steels. Because of its high level of vanadium and the element's toxicity, there are concerns about eating the creature. This flesh is canned or sold as strips and can be eaten raw, or cooked. It is also exported to Sweden and Japan. Mesmerizing and rejuvenating to behold- perfect for practicing mindfulness, relaxation, meditation and serenity. The ultimate in liquid dream immersion therapy, DVD now available on Amazon: http://goo.gl/JCEsyc Watch Full Length Video: http://goo.gl/RClYjI Zen Ocean Waves captures a stormy sea at its most primal magnificence. As wave after wave explodes and pummels the coastline, you can almost feel the refreshing ocean spray brace against your skin. Recent British studies have confirmed that views of the ocean and other slow moving expanses with horizon lines make us happier than other landscapes. Perhaps it's the feelings of awe and wonder when we look out upon oceans and endless water vistas. Gazing at the ocean is theorized to release a mix of dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins. Zen Ocean Waves offers this kind of natural endorphin rush, with an endless loop of vast ocean swells cascading against cliffs and rocky expanses, amidst beautifully stunning coastal scenery. Directed by Milos Kuhlman. Produced by Zenchantment. Caution: May cause drowsiness or deep relaxation. Not to be watched while operating dangerous machinery. For use without a prescription. May be combined with other medications or alcohol. Side effects may include peacefulness, tranquility and feelings of bliss leading to introspection, meditation and/or ultimately deep sleep or serenity. Could become addictive. Use with care. Or without. DVD now available on Amazon: http://goo.gl/JCEsyc Watch Full Length Video: http://goo.gl/RClYjI Director Milos Kuhlman has been accumulating footage throughout destinations East and West since before the new millennium. Now focusing on visual tone poems and long form music art pieces, he seeks out scenic inspiration as a form of meditational reverie, equally found in the slow deliberate liberation of a leaf on a koi pond, or the sweeping vista of an ocean riding on a storm. "The visual journey all about being present in between the random moments of beauty, while the soundtrack is the soul..." Underscored by original soundtracks, Zenchantment takes ambient soundscapes into a decidedly hypnotic, meditational direction; fusing quiet, mood induced textures into a visual sound collage. Together, the minimal soundtracks and sublime scenery convey the fragile and temporal beauty of nature's handiwork in flux. Experience transcendent moments of nature that evoke the reverential and the serene. Experience the visual poetry of life. Experience Zenchantment.

Life found in rocks 1.5 miles under the sea -- Truthloader Investigates

Scientists from the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program have discovered bacteria, viruses and fungi living over 1.5 miles under the ocean floor in thick sedimentary rock, which dates back over 100m years. The lifeforms are only just surviving though, reproducing once every 10,000 years or so. Nevertheless the discovery raises questions over where life on Earth can survive. Braindead Republican Congressman Says Falling Rocks Are Causing Sea Level Rise

02:22
Representative Mo Brooks, a Republican from Alabama, has finally figured out what is causing sea levels across the planet to rise – According to Brooks, climate change isn’t real, so the REAL threat to our oceans is FALLING ROCKS making the sea get higher. Someone needs to have Mo Brooks evaluated, because his thought processes indicate that one of those falling rocks may have landed on his head. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.   Link – http://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/388161-gop-lawmaker-says-rocks-falling-into-the-ocean-is-causing-higher Support us by becoming a monthly patron on Patreon, and help keep progressive media alive!: https://www.patreon.com/TheRingofFire Spread the word! He understands what it is behind it and how big of a threat it is to the United States of America and places all over the globe, but Mo Brooks tells us it's not climate change. It's not rising temperatures. It's not the constant emissions. No, no, no! It's rocks. Rocks falling into the ocean are causing the sea level to just rise as astronomical paces, and that's the real threat. We don't need climate change regulations. We need rock regulations according to Mo Brooks. That is what he said, actually, during a meeting of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee. This guy sits on that committee, Science, Space, and Technology, and somehow has the audacity or the stupidity to sit there and tell us, "Ignore the science. It's the rocks, those darn rocks falling into the water." Yes, there's an argument to be made for displacement, but how big are these rocks we're talking about here? They would basically have to be the size of a small country falling into the ocean to really have any kind of a difference whatsoever. Brooks tells us that it's the White Cliffs of Dover, rocks falling off of those, rocks falling off the coast in California, and sediment being carried into the ocean from rivers all around the world. Those three things are what's causing the sea-level rise, but mostly, obviously, it's the falling rocks. After hearing this, after reading what Brooks had to say, I realized he might have a point about the falling rocks. In fact, I'm willing to bet if this man honestly believes this, that he has experience with falling rocks because only a traumatic head injury would explain how somebody could be so painfully stupid. Maybe Moe Brooks needs to go check for a concussion. Maybe some kids in the neighborhood were throwing rocks, one caught him in the head, and now he can't think straight and thinks that science isn't real, but falling rocks are a threat to humanity.

British Columbia, 1967 In 1967, British Columbia became a hub of mermaid excitement when, one day, Ferry riders spotted a mermaid lounging on the shore of Mayne Island. They claimed they saw a topless, blonde woman with the tail of a porpoise sitting on the beach shore. Some witnesses even became very upset, as they believed they saw the mermaid eating a raw salmon. One tourist from Iowa even managed to take a picture. After the sighting, the mermaid was seen one more time the following week. As the locals got swept up by the spotting of this mysterious mermaid, the town locals began to seek any information relating to her. The town newspaper, The Colonist, put up a $25,000 reward for the mermaid. Arrangements were even made for the mermaid to have room and board once she was found and successfully acclimated into the town setting. Although many believe that the whole thing was a charade, many still believe that what they saw was real. 9. Scotland, 1830 Mermaids are a part of Scotland’s countless mysteries and legends. It’s not surprising, then, that there would be many accounts of mermaid sightings. In 1830, the people of the island of Benbecula saw a mermaid. While cutting seaweed near the shore one day, a woman reportedly saw a miniature woman swimming in the water. Surprised by her discovery, she called many people over to view the water dweller. Some men rushed at her in the water, either to catch her or get a closer look, and the woman swam out of reach. Some boys threw stones at the frightened mermaid and one struck her in the back. A few days later, the corpse of the mermaid supposedly washed up on the shore. Like many of the other claims of mermaids, this one was small, with pale white skin and had the tail of a fish without scales. After the discovery, the sheriff of the town thought it only fitting that the mermaid have a proper burial. Someone constructed a coffin and the mermaid, wrapped in a shroud, was laid to rest above the shoreline where she was found. To this day, no one knows exactly where the mermaid was buried as no marker was left to denote the spot. 8. West Indies, 1614 John Smith, the same John Smith from Pocahontas, reported that he saw a mermaid off the coast of West Indies in 1614. According to the story, Smith saw a woman swimming parallel to the shore. He was captivated by the grace in which she moved and noted that she had ears that were too long, a nose that was too short, eyes that were too round, and green hair. He also noted that the woman was a little attractive from the waist up. From the waist down, however, she was all fish. Some doubt has been thrown on the veracity of the tale of course, otherwise where would the mystery be. One source claims he wasn’t in the West Indies but in Newfoundland. Another historian says Smith wasn’t in the West Indies in 1614, though he was there in 1607. Potato patato in this case. The same historian suggested that Alexandre Dumas fabricated the tale to give credence to his own mermaid story about a Frenchman searching for a Dutchman who had four children with a mermaid. 7. Norway, 1608 In 1608, Henry Hudson explored the cold northern waters off Norway. Written in his journal, he describes a day when he encountered a group of mermaids. Hudson claimed a mermaid appeared in the water, saw his crew and called up more of her mermaid sisters. He described the women as being as big as the men in his crew, with very white skin and long dark hair. He claimed their tails looked like a dolphin’s but were spotted like a mackerel. Hudson was thrilled that he had discovered mermaids. What makes this case so strange is that it occurred in the Bering Sea. Most mermaid sightings are discounted as sailors mistaking animals, often manatees, as mermaids. However, no manatees swim the waters of the Bering Sea. Naturalist Philip Henry Gosse, in his mid-1800s work The Romance of Natural History, believes it to be impossible that Hudson mistook an animal for this mermaid. He believes seasoned sailors such as Hudson would be able to identify animals in that location easily. Gosse believes either Hudson made this entire story up or Hudson saw something truly unique to the realm of science. We may never know. OIL ROCKS - CITY ABOVE THE SEA / Documentary film, Teaser HD

04:47
Full film version available on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/oilrocks SYNOPSIS THE OIL ROCKS – Behind this enigmatic name lies the first and largest offshore oil town ever built. A vast, sprawling web of oil platforms in the middle of the Caspian Sea, commissioned by Stalin in 1949. Imagine: 2,000 oil rigs, 300 kilometres of bridges, rusty old Soviet trucks rolling back and forth, nine-storey building blocks, thousands of oil workers, a cultural palace, a lemonade factory, a green park… Sixty years on, the Oil Rocks still stand. But two-thirds of the infrastructure has been regained by the sea. A kind of Oil Atlantis, only real. Combining black-and-white archives from the Soviet era and contemporary footage, the film tells the story of this timeless place and of some of its amazing inhabitants. It is the first time a Western film crew is allowed to make a documentary on the site since its creation. Did They Find a Living Megalodon In the Mariana Trench?

08:29
Сould Megalodon sharks still be alive in the deepest parts of the ocean? Science tells us that Megalodon sharks are extinct. Given that it was a massive shark with noticeable feeding habits, we guess that if Megalodon sharks were still roaming the oceans, they would probably have been spotted by someone by now. But perhaps not if they lived in the deepest place on Earth: the Mariana Trench. TIMESTAMPS: What the name Megalodon means 1:49 Megalodon’s size 3:26 The deepest spot on Earth 4:13 Could Megalodon live in the Mariana Trench 5:00 How many people reached Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench 6:39 #megalodon #marianatrench #meg Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY: - The Megalodon shark roamed the oceans as early as 23 million years ago, and we have their fossils to prove their existence. When people first encountered Megalodon teeth, they believed them to be rocks that had made their way to Earth from the moon. - Megalodon was the biggest shark to terrorize the ocean, and it is thought to have gone extinct 2.6 million years ago. The name Megalodon means “big tooth.” Most of the recovered Megalodon fossil teeth have been 4” to 5”. But there are a few enormous teeth that are over 7”. - The Mariana Trench is 6.83 miles deep and measures more than 1,500 miles long and 43 miles wide. To put the depth into perspective, if you were to put Mount Everest into the Mariana Trench, the top would still be sticking out. To put the length into perspective, in 1,500 miles you could fit all the states between Florida and Massachusetts. 1,500 miles is also the distance between Madrid, in Spain, and Copenhagen, in Denmark. - To survive in the Mariana Trench, Megalodon would have had to adapt to the living conditions and evolve. It would also have to switch its diet from whales, dolphins, sea lions, and sea cows to whatever organisms reside in the Mariana Trench and hope that it could find and eat its usual 2,500 lb of food per day. - According to the United Nations, there are 7.6 billion people in the world today, and only 3 of them have made it to the deepest point on Earth. The reality is that with so little research, it is impossible to know what lies in the depths of the Mariana Trench. Pictured Rocks Kayaking

13:22
In this video I take you along while I kayak Pictured Rocks near Munising Michigan. This is by far one of my absolute favorite kayaking experiences EVER! This video journals my experience throughout the day and is my best attempt to highlight the beauty of this national lake shore. This video is split up into a few parts, and here's why... We used Uncle Ducky's Paddling Michigan as our guide service. (http://www.paddlingmichigan.com/) They offer several options to paddle Pictured Rocks, and so I thought it would be appropriate to split the video up into segments that would reflect the type of trip you might experience should you book with them. The trip we chose was the "paddle and hike". This took us along roughly 14 miles of beautiful Lake Superior shoreline, and then ended with a 3 mile hike to a pickup point. In the middle, we stopped for lunch at Mosquito Beach. Some trips they offer just go to the point where you eat lunch and then return home. In my opinion, you miss out on a lot if you just paddle halfway and then back. If you ever want to paddle this, I highly suggest long sleeve everything as the stable flies are AWFUL! Whatever wasn't covered, they attempted to bite. ---------- If this is your first time with us, my name is Dave, and David's Passage is the name of my vlog. This passage in life started with a desire to share my love of the outdoors with the world. FIRST DIVES AT SEAL ROCKS (1960)

02:24
Experienced divers visit Seal Rocks (New South Wales) in 1960. Shark hunting involved spears (no powerheads until 1963). Those featured: Alan Power produced the first quality picture book of Great Barrier Reef pictures and today leads divers on the shipwreck President Coolidge in Vanuatu.. Wally Gibbins became legendary as a spearman and salvage divers (https://wallygibbins.blogspot.com.au). Ron Taylor had a coral reef named after himself (Ron Taylor Reef) and was honored with an AM award by the Australian government. The sea lion colony on an offshore rock had vanished completely 15 years later. Sea lions have begun returning. Grey nurse sharks also disappeared for a decade then made a dramatic return to the waters surrounding 'big seal rock' (a local term for one of the two offshore rocks). Note: just because it’s found on earth, doesn’t mean it’s from it! 10. Tanzanite 9. Grandiderite 8. Black Opal 7. Taaffeite 6. Alexandrite 5. Musgravite 4. Painite 3. Serendibite 2. Red Diamonds, Pink Star Diamond 1. Jadeite Poudretteite This mineral was first found during the mid-1960’s in the Poudrette quarry of Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec. However, it wasn’t until 1987 that the poudretteite was fully recognized as a new mineral. Even then, this mineral wasn't described in depth until 2003. As stated by several different sources, it’s believed that only a relative few will ever come into contact with this mineral and let alone ever even hear it mentioned. Grandidierite This is considered to be an extremely rare mineral and gem that was first seen in 1902 on the Island of Madagascar. It was named in honor after the French explorer Alfred Grandidier who once studied the island’s natural history. Grandidierite comes in a bluish-green color and is located almost entirely in Madagascar, although, there was a clean faceted sample that was found in Sri Lanka. Grandidierite is also pleochroic, which means it's able to absorb different wavelengths of light differently and that results in different colors, such is the same ability with the gems tanzanite and alexandrite. Painite This gemstone was first discovered back in the 1950’s in Myanmar by a British mineralogist named Arthur C. D. Pain. For the next several decades only two fragments of the hexagonal mineral were known to exist on earth. By the time the year 2005 rolled around, there were still less than 25 discovered pieces of painite and The Guinness Book of World Records had declared it the world's rarest gemstone mineral. However, that was 11 years ago and since then the origin of the original stones has been found, along with two other major locations that have led to the discovery of thousands of small samples of painite fragments. Even so, they’re still considered one of the world’s rarest minerals. Ammolite This rare gemstone can be found mainly in the eastern region of the Rocky Mountains of North America. Ammolite is an opal-like gemstone that is solely made up of the fossilized shells of extinct animals known as ammonites. This makes ammolite one of the few biogenic gemstones that exist, along with pearls and amber. Ammolites weren’t officially recognized as gemstones until 1981 when they were given official status by the World Jewellery Confederation. That’s also the same year that commercial mining for ammolite began. Tanzanite It’s been said that tanzanite is 1,000 times rarer than a diamond, which might as well be the case considering the fact that it can be found almost entirely near the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This is where the perfect conditions lie in order to form the mineral. Like grandidierite, tanzanite is able to produce striking shifts in color based on the crystal’s orientation and the certain lighting conditions. Caltech's geology division states this is because the color variations are caused by the existence of vanadium ions. Red Diamonds Did you know that diamonds come in a variety of colors? In fact, diamonds can range from being yellow, brown, colorless, blue, green, black, pink, orange, and red. That’s also the same order of how rare each diamond is classified as with yellow being the least and red being the most. Not only that but diamonds are also the hardest natural substances that form here on earth. Just like the colorless diamond, the red diamond is made purely out of carbon, however, what gives the diamond its red color is actually a deformation of their atomic structure that’s known as a “plastic deformation”. The Moussaieff Red is the largest red diamond in the world among the little known other red diamonds that have been discovered. 11 Things Found After Japanese Tsunami

07:42
Some of the craziest things will wash up after a big storm like an entire yacht on top of a building and soccer ball across the country! Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 6. A Japanese Dock This piece of debris happened to be part of a Japanese dock that was torn from its moorings during the tsunami and washed up on the shores of Oregon and brought back what researchers believe to be about 100 tons of sea life. Scientists from the Oregon State University state that the 66-foot-long deck has around 13 pounds of organisms per square foot. The dock did not show any signs of radiation from the Fukushima nuclear plant meltdown caused by the tsunami, but it did pose the threat of carrying invasive species. What that means is that these creatures that aren’t natives to the area could potentially throw the local ecosystems out of whack and cause irreparable damage to the native wildlife, such as the dread zebra mussel. 5. A Mystery Creature There have been some unusual things that have washed up on random shores after tsunamis, this being one of them. After the 2011 tsunami hit, this giant white mass had been washed out onto the shore of Japan and had many of the locals, along with everyone who watched this video on YouTube, wondering what it even was? Some thought it to be a brand new creature that had risen from the dark depths of the ocean floor while others speculated it was merely a large rock or boulder. Don’t worry, officials have concluded that this isn’t some new species that’s going to wipe us out. They simply stated that it’s most likely just a mass of whale blubber from the carcass of a dead whale that’s pretty much unrecognizable. 4. A Shipping Tote Back in November of 2014, this shipping tote had washed up near the shores of Seal Rock in Oregon. This 4-by-5 foot plastic shipping tote had been floating out at sea for the last 3 years since the tsunami struck and amassed around 200 blue mussels that were attached to it. Like the dock that was found in 2012, this tote was a potential host for carrying invasive species and scientist eventually determined it as a non-threat to the surrounding environment. Still, the amount of debris, the total estimated to be around 18.11 million tons with 70 percent of the debris sinking to the bottom of the ocean, is still rather high and is still washing up years after that tragic event took place. 3. Various Trash A barge from the fishing town of Ucluelet in British Columbia had carried in around “super sacks” of debris caused by the tsunami. Those sacks are designed to hold up to 1,000 pounds, so you can only imagine how heavy all that weight could possibly be. Ever since the tsunami struck, there have been volunteer pickups in the town where local and Japanese students have gotten involved. They’ve managed to collect all different sorts of garbage such as styrofoam, pieces of Japanese houses, and other debris. Though they’ve made progress, their results haven’t been achieved through smooth sailing. The coastline of Ucluelet is described as remote and rugged which made the cleanups very difficult and the fact that there was already debris unrelated to the tsunami already there makes for even more trash than expected. 2. An Entire Ship This yacht happened to be discovered in the Iwate Prefecture in Northeastern Japan in the town of Otsuchi nearly two months after the tsunami had hit. The ship weighs in at an incredible 200 tons and it’s a huge surprise that the two-story building that is supporting all that weight is still somehow managing to keep from collapsing. It’s hard to even process the amount of force needed to lift the ship. 1. A House As one of the most powerful and deadly disasters that can occur in nature, the tsunami is one that leaves devastation in its wake. Their sheer force can only be imagined by those who have never witnessed what it can be capable of at first hand and even then you can never come close to doing it justice. Take for example this house that was a part of the Fukushima debris. This was someone’s entire home where they built a life for themselves around it and in a matter of moments, it was swept off its foundation and carried out into the sea, along with what is estimated to be another 200,000 buildings.
