Procurement is the act of finding, acquiring, buying goods, services or works from an external source, often via a tendering or competitive bidding process. The process is used to ensure the buyer receives goods, services or works the best possible price, when aspects such as quality, quantity, time, and location are compared. Corporations and public bodies often define processes intended to promote fair and open competition for their business while minimizing risk, such as exposure to fraud and collusion. Almost all purchasing decisions include factors such as delivery and handling, marginal benefit, and price fluctuations. Procurement generally involves making buying decisions under conditions of scarcity. If good data is available, it is good practice to make use of economic analysis methods such as cost-benefit analysis or cost-utility analysis. An important distinction should be made between analyses without risk and those with risk. Where risk is involved, either in the costs or the benefits, the concept of best value should be employed. Procurement activities are often split into two distinct categories, direct and indirect spend. Direct spend refers to production-related procurement that encompasses all items that are part of finished products, such as raw material, components and parts. The first category being direct, production-related procurement and the second being indirect, non-production-related procurement. Direct procurement, which is the focus in supply chain management, directly affects the production process of manufacturing firms. In contrast, indirect procurement activities concern “operating resources” that a company purchases to enable its operations. Indirect procurement comprises a wide variety of goods and services, from standardized items like office supplies and machine lubricants to complex and costly products and services;, like heavy equipment, consulting services, and outsourcing services. Procurement is one component of the broader concept of sourcing and acquisition. Typically procurement is viewed as more tactical in nature (the process of physically buying a product or service) and sourcing and acquisition are viewed as more strategic and encompassing. The Institute of Supply Management defines strategic sourcing as the process of identifying sources that could provide needed products or services for the acquiring organization. The term procurement used to reflect the entire purchasing process or cycle, and not just the tactical components. ISM defines procurement as an organizational function that includes specifications development, value analysis, supplier market research, negotiation, buying activities, contract administration, inventory control, traffic, receiving and stores. Purchasing refers to the major function of an organization that is responsible for acquisition of required materials, services and equipment. The United States Defense Acquisition University (DAU) defines procurement as the act of buying goods and services for the government. DAU defines acquisition as the conceptualization, initiation, design, development, test, contracting, production, deployment, Logistics Support (LS), modification, and disposal of weapons and other systems, supplies, or services (including construction) to satisfy Department of Defense needs, intended for use in or in support of military missions. Acquisition and sourcing are therefore much wider concepts than procurement. Multiple sourcing business models exist, and acquisition models exist.

Politicians in the media often talk about the private and public sectors of our economy but what's the difference? And which one is more effective? The private sector is made up of businesses or corporations owned by people. The private sector includes malls, grocery stores, and your local diner. To make a profit in the private sector, businesses must earn our money by offering us products and services that we want or need. When businesses have to compete for the same dollars, prices go down because no one wants to pay twice as much for shoes at one store if you can get the same pair cheaper at another place. On the other hand, the public sector is not supported by profits. It doesn't have to compete for our dollars. Instead, the public sector uses our tax dollars to fund its services. So we pay for these programs no matter how much or how little we use them. The government decides how our tax dollars should be spent in the public sector. This makes sense for some things. For example, you probably wouldn't want firefighters or police officers competing with one another for your business. In other cases though, this means things cost more or service is worse. The U.S. Post Office has $100 billion in debt and is regularly bailed out with taxpayer money. And the Department of Motor Vehicles isn't usually known for fast, friendly service. In contrast, private companies know that if they offer poor customer service and don't make money, they'll go out of business. When comparing the private sector with the public sector, it's clear that the market-driven private sector is more efficient. When you don't have to be profitable or accountable, things tend to be more expensive and the service is worse. So when there's a choice between a private sector or a government service, think about that package you really need delivered.

Whenever you buy a complex piece of equipment such as a TV or a car, do you ever wonder: how exactly did they put this all together? This video analyzes Toyota's Just in Time production system. Well, ever since the industrial revolution, that “how” has been a vital question for many businesses. Today, we’re going to look at how in post-war Japan, Toyota helped to create one of the smartest production systems that we have, named “Just In Time”. We’ll look at how it works and how you can apply the philosophy and practises to many other areas of business too. After World War 2, Japan faced some difficult problems; they didn’t have a lot of cash, resources were scarce, and there wasn’t a lot of free land to expand factories. However, Taiichi Ohno at Toyota managed to turn these problems into advantages by slowly creating the Just In Time system. The idea didn’t all come at once, it’s more that through the 50s and 60s, various changes were implemented and improved until the 70s were the wider world began to realise the benefits and start to adopt a similar approach. If not, you can get a domain easily by clicking here ➜ https://websitelearners.com/get/domain Step 2: Enable Email Forwarding This will forward all the mails coming to your business email address to Gmail. To enable email forwarding, setup your workspace email. Then create a forward by clicking manage. Now, enter the business email that you want to create. For Example, you can enter something like [email protected], or [email protected] Then enter an existing gmail address to which you want to forward the mails to! Step 3: Create your Zoho-Mail Account What is Zoho and Why are we using it? Zoho is a free email service which handles the sending of emails from our domain. By using Zoho, we can avoid paying separately for our business email. To create a Zoho account: Go to http://zoho.com/mail and sign-up for the free plan. Step 4: Verify our domain. Continue the setup by choosing your DNS provider. Next, you need to enter the details shown in Zoho, to your Domain Provider’s DNS page. So just, go to Godaddy and then under domains, click Manage DNS. Then, add the details from Zoho. After adding it, click verify your domain and proceed with the setup. Skip to the SPF (Sender Policy Framework) page where you need to again enter the details to GoDaddy. Once you’re done, then again skip the pages till you reach the Mail Client Configuration. Step 5: Connect your Zoho account with Gmail Next, login to Gmail and then go to settings. Click Accounts & Import and then click add another email address. Now enter the new email address and also the “From” name that you want to use. 5 Reasons to NOT Buy a Gas Station

Lets start with an interesting statistic. According to the NACS 2017 Retail Fuels Report, 59% of gas stations in the U.S. are one owner-operated. They own one store and often that store is attended by the owner. That type of business is what we call buying a job. The owners aren't working in the business because it makes so much money they are workimng there because they have to. Also interesting to note is that most major oil companies have sold off all or most of their fuel station holdings. Do you think you as a small business buyer have more market knowledge than the best business minds hired by the oil companies? Big oil is getting out of gas stations that should be a warning sign as shouold the huge number of single store owner operators. Many of these are struggling business owners making a living on very small margins. Which bring us to the next point 1. Small Margins. Here is a great infographic from the Orange County Register on where $50 spent at the pump goes. $30.75 to the oil company, $7.00 to the refineries, $6.00 on taxes, $4.00 to the delivery company, $1.25 on processing and transaction fees and finally right at the end of the chain you get $1.00. And that number can and does change sometimes even lower most owners suggesting an average of 1-3 cents net per gallon. If you speak with gas station owners as we do or even just visit forums and chatrooms with actual gas station owners most will tell you the gas is just a way to get people to the location and they actually make their money on cigarettes, soft drinks, coffee, and snack foods. But a huge problem today is more and more gas buyers are paying at the pump and not even entering the store making it even less profitable. But you will still have non driving walk in traffic leading us to reason #3 - rough customers 2. Most cheap gas stations are located in less than desirable neighborhoods and open 24 hours a day. And lets face it most gas stations are often frequented by some interesting people particularly in the late and early morning hours. We all watch Youtube and see some of the crazy stuff that happens in convenience stores and gas stations. That will also be happening to you - is that something you want to deal with? Ask your seller if they have ever had any issues where they had to call the police, and Google the address and see if any crime reports come up. There are over 7000 robberies each year at gas stations and 15,000 at conveniece stores which is disproportionate in relation to other businesses. 3. Franchising. Now there are many situations where the franchising model works. In my opinion gas is not one of them. In fact if you are at the mercy of buying only one companies gas at a fixed price, being unable to shop for better pricing, stuck with every promotion they decide on as well as having to pay franchise royalties and fees with your already slim margins, being profitable can be difficult. 4. Environmental issues.This is a problem specific to gas stations. Are the tanks leaking? If so the cost of cleanup can be costly. Many unwary buyers found themselves on the hook for huge bills because they chose to survey only assets that were above ground. 5. At the mercy of potential construction. Some unethical sellers pull a fast one and after determing that weeks or months of construction will make thier location inaccessible put it on the market. Always check with the local department of transportation prior to making an offer on a gas station. Or any business for that matter. Now in closing yes I understand that gas stations and convenience stores CAN be a good business or franchise. In these videos I provide the negative side because as we all know the seller is only giving you the good side. An business decision that has considered both the bad and the good is an educated one.
