3 Rules to Avoid Violating Fair Use on YouTube

06:13
Even if the copyrighted material you use in your YouTube videos falls under Fair Use, you can still get into a lot of copyright issues and difficulties. The only entity that can determine if your use of copyrighted material falls under "Fair Use" or not is a court of law. YouTube doesn't make any judgement calls on fair use. They only give copyright holders the ability to find their material on YouTube through Content ID and determine what they want to do with the video that's using their material. Here's a few rules to help you avoid violating fair use and running into copyright problems on YouTube. HACCP - Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points - Part 5

02:11
http://food-safety-training.net Stages in the implementation of HACCP (The HACCP study) 1 Assemble and train the HACCP team. (define the terms of reference and the scope) 2 Describe the product/recipe/process. 3 Identify the intended use. 4 Construct a flow diagram and food-room layout showing product, personnel, equipment and waste flows 5 On-site verification of flow diagram and food room layout 6 Identify hazard/risk/severity and control measures. (Hazard analysis) 7 Determine critical control points using the decision tree. 8 Determine critical limits, target levels and tolerances for each critical control point. 9 Establish monitoring system for each CCP. 10 Establish actions to be taken when a CCP is moving out of control, and the corrective actions to be taken if a deviation occurs 11 Establish verification procedures (includes validation and review) 12 Establish record keeping and documentation. The twelve logical sequence steps for the implementation of HACCP (The HACCP study) Successful implementation of HACCP must be built on good hygiene practice and depends on: Culture of the organization Management commitment Effective management/supervision (including leadership of the HACCP team) Adequate resources (budget and time) Adequate training Access to scientific information Access to necessary expertise HACCP implementation must be carefully planned Full implementation - throughout all departments/products. Gradual implementation -department/product at a time. 1. Assemble the HACCP team (multidisciplinary expertise - external expertise may be required, especially for smaller businesses). Training will probably be required. The terms of reference (which product or groups of products/process) and the scope of the HACCP study (which hazards) should be determined. 2. Describe the product/recipe/process. Relevant safety information will include composition, aw, and pH. Processes such as heat-treatment, freezing, brining, and irradiation. Packaging, shelf life, storage conditions and method of distribution. 3. Identify intended use of the product i.e. how will the end user/consumer use the product, e.g. microwave reheating. Awareness of potential abuse, likely time out of temperature control. Will the product be consumed by vulnerable groups e.g. babies, immunocompromised or the elderly? 4. Construct a flow diagram. (It’s also usual to describe the process). The flow diagram must cover all steps in the operation. 5. On-site validation of the flow diagram. - 'walk the line' 6. Identify all potential hazards/risk/severity associated with each step, conduct a hazard analysis and consider any measures to control identified hazards (Principle 1). 7. Determine critical control points using the decision tree (Principle 2). External expertise may be required to support the HACCP team. However, a HACCP plan produced solely by an external consultant may not result in the essential sense of ownership by managers and operatives. 8 Determine critical limits, target levels and tolerances for each critical control point. (Principle 3) 9 Establish monitoring system for each CCP. (Principle 4) 10 Establish corrective actions to be taken if a deviation occurs i.e. a CCP is out of control. (Principle 5) 11 Establish verification procedures (includes validation and review). (Principle 6) 12 Establish documentation and record keeping. (Principle 7) http://food-safety-training.net

Cloud Computing Services Models - IaaS PaaS SaaS Explained

06:43
https://ecoursereview.com/cloud-computing-pros-and-cons-for-business-it/ 3 Types of Cloud Computing Services: IaaS PaaS SaaS Explained You Might Wonder – What Is Cloud Computer: #Cloudcomputing is a set of forms that contain certain elements that allows for on-demand, network access, scalability, and shared resources. It's a platform for managing, storing, and processing data online through the internet. Some of the cloud computing features include the following: - On-Demand Services – Available when you need it - Network Access – When using the internet as your medium - Shared Resources – All resources are gathered together and used by multiple customers - Scalability - The ability of a computer system to adapt to increasing demands The Three Delivery Models: Cloud computing provides different services based on three delivery configurations. When they are arranged in a pyramid structure, they are in the order of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS. The Three Services: #SaaS - Software as a Service This service provides on-demand pay per use of the application software for users and is independent of a platform. You do not have to install software on your computer, unlike a license paid program. Cloud runs a single occurrence of the software, making it available for multiple end-users allowing the service to be cheap. All the computing resources that are responsible for delivering SaaS are totally managed by the vendor. The service is accessible through a web browser or lightweight client applications. End customers use SaaS regularly. The most popular SaaS providers offer the following products and services: Google Ecosystem including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, Microsoft Office 365, and SalesForce. #PaaS - Platform as a Service This service is mostly a development environment that is made up of a programming language execution environment, an operating system, web server, and database. It provides an environment where users can build, compile, and run their program without worrying about an hidden infrastructure. You manage the data and application resources. All the other resources are managed by the vendor. This is the realm for developers. PaaS providers offer the following products and services: Amazon Web services, Elastic Beanstalk, Google App Engine, Windows Azure, Heroku, and Force.com #IaaS - Infrastructure as a Service This service provides the architecture and infrastructure. It provides all computing resources but in a virtual environment so multiple users can have access. The resources include data storage, virtualization, servers, and networking. Most vendors are responsible for managing them. If you use this service, you are responsible for handling other resources including applications, data, runtime, and middleware. This is mostly for SysAdmins. IaaS providers offer the following products and services: Amazon EC2, Go Grid, and Rackspace.com. Here is a short list of some companies that use cloud computing: iCloud – Cloud from Apple is for Apple products. You can backup and store everything from multimedia to documents online. The content is then smoothly integrated onto your devices. Amazon's AWS - When you talk about companies using cloud computing, Amazon Web Services leads the pack. It offers IaaS and PaaS to all their customers. Google Cloud – This cloud platform is universal for Google's enormous ecosystem and for other products such as Microsoft Office. It provides storage of data and collaboration along with other services that are included in their cloud computing suite. Microsoft Azure – Offered by Microsoft, it provides SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS for its software and developer tools. If you have used Office 365, then you have used SaaS. IBM Smart Cloud - This offers private, public, and hybrid distribution platforms providing a full range of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS cloud computing services for businesses. The pay as you go platform generates profits for IBM. New technology is popping up all over the internet and Cloud seems to be on the rise. This is only scratching the surface on what is already available and what will become available throughout 2017. --- 3 Types of Cloud Computing Services - IaaS PaaS SaaS Explained https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36zducUX16w #CloudComputingServices #CloudComputing --- Follow us on https://www.facebook.com/EcourseReviews https://twitter.com/EcourseReviews https://plus.google.com/+Ecoursereview/posts https://ecoursereview.com/

Ask GN 92: What Kills CPUs - Heat or Voltage? Used Mining GPUs Safe?

30:54
This Ask GN talks about heat degradation of CPUs vs. over-volting to death, used mining GPU safety, AIDA vs. Prime for stress testing, and more. Ad: EVGA's 19th Anniversary Giveaway is here: http://geni.us/NZnUrfn Get the Patreon bonus episode here: http://patreon.com/gamersnexus All GN items restocked on the store: https://store.gamersnexus.net/ TIMESTAMPS What Do You Think of Intel’s 10nm Struggle? 01:53 – UncleCurseBurp: “#askgn-questions What do you think of Intel's struggle at 10nm and AMD moving to 7nm with TSMC? Intel's CEO had to resign over the 10nm struggle (not what was reported) and they may truly be in trouble with the constant 10nm delays in terms of AMD being able to deliver a more efficient product to the semi custom market (besides consoles) For reference, here is a link.” Does Heat Degrade CPUs More Than Pure Voltage? 03:52 - Stephan Svendsen: “#AskGN I’ve heard different things from different sources, but does heat degrade CPU’s more than the pure voltage put into the CPU? Phrased differently, Can one safely input higher voltages into the CPU, as long as the temperature is low, or will the high voltage degrade the CPU rergardless of low temperatures?” Are Mining GPUs Safe to Buy Used? 11:42 – Geimvera: “#askgn-questions Now that minig rigs are being chopped up and sold off are those GPUs safe to buy or should they be avoided like the plague?” Prime95 vs. AIDA OC Testing 19:47 - Devin Dykstra: “#AskGN When I was overclocking my cpu(Ryzen 5 1600) I noticed an odd phenomenon: When I overclocked it too high Aida64 and Prime95 both crashed my system, but when I ran both stress tests at the same time it was stable. I would think that running both would put even more stress on the CPU, so what's going on here?” Reviewing Gaming Mice Technically? 21:48 – FourthTuna: “#askgn-questions Can GN possibly review gaming mice? It is known in cybersport enthusiast community that even among top tier gaming mice sensors, button switches do differ and affect performance. Players collect data based on reviews and personal experience, there is lack of expertise about sensors, their technology and parameters.” Good Full-Tower Cases? 24:34 - George Lambros: “Hello Steve, hope you are doing well. I know you mostly cover mid tower cases (DBP 900 and HAF X revisited are the only exceptions?) but do you plan on reviewing some full tower cases as well? I made the mistake 6 years ago to buy the 800d and now, since you educated me, I ripped the drive cage apart, put 2 140mm fans in the front and glued Silverstone Air filters on the front panel. Now I have much better temperatures, but that means all my 7 drives are in the air held by cables or sitting at the bottom of the case. I am thinking its time for me to upgrade to a nice new 2018 case, but I really want a full tower. Which one would you suggest, except the HAF since it just looks SO bad... I read reviews around but I dont really trust no one, except you on the matter. Even just your opinion by seeing a picture of a case is more valuable to me, than some "reviews" out there.” How Often Can You Ride Downhill? 27:49 – Ghostpilot: “@Steve Burke How often are you able to make it to a bike track? 10 “Generic” Product Names You Didn’t Realize Were TRADEMARKS

19:42
Check out our New Biography Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/biographics A trademark usually presents itself in the form of a name, a logo, a design, or a phrase, with the purpose of distinguishing one manufacturer’s products from another. Sometimes, however, when business is really good for a particular brand, or it has a head start over the competition, then that particular brand might just become a proprietary eponym, or generic trademark. This means that if a product develops a substantial market share over the other manufacturers, or it becomes well ingrained into the public consciousness, then its brand could replace the name for the entire industry. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 Help us translate our videos: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_queue?msg=10&tab=0 - Learn more why you might want to help: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6052538 Find more lists at: http://www.toptenz.net Entertaining and educational top 10 lists from TopTenzNet! NVMe Storage Explained for 2019 – DIY in 5 Ep 100

04:07
NVMe or Non-Volatile Memory Express is a super-fast way to access non-volatile memory. Both flash and Solid State Devices (SSDs) are a type of non-volatile memory, hence, NVMe is a super-fast way to access flash memory. It’s a transfer protocol, not a form factor like M.2 or an interface like SATA or PCIe. But because it’s the standardized interface for PCIe SSDs, you can see where people might get confused. It can be around 2-7x faster than SATA SSDs. For reference, traditional hard drives using the SCSI protocol had one queue for commands. NVMe is designed to have up to 64,000 queues each capable of 64,000 commands at the same time! Kingston has two new SSDs for 2019, the KC2000 high performance NVMe SSD and the A2000 entry-level NVMe drive. Both offer faster transmission speeds than their previous models and the A2000 offers NVMe speeds at SATA prices. Is your system compatible with NVMe? The two things you need to look for are built-in M.2 and support for NVMe. First, check the product page of your computer to see if you have an M.2 slot. Then you need to figure out if your motherboard supports NVMe SSDs. Ideally, there would be an easy way to tell if your hardware can support NVMe, but right now there isn’t. Some motherboards support it, but don’t call it NVMe. They may use terms like “PCIe mode.” You’ll want to be on the lookout for PCIe Gen 3 or later and M.2. Refer to your motherboard’s website or Google search to investigate. Along with hardware compatibly, you must consider OS compatibility. The latest versions of Linux, Windows, Chrome OS, and Mac OS all support NVMe but Apple doesn’t let you tinker much with your hardware on most of the models that have come out in the last few years, so a DIY upgrade probably isn’t in the works for our Mac friends out there. Cloning software is now compatible with NVMe drives. Kingston uses Acronis True Image software, which comes included with Kingston SSD bundles (not the drive-only version), works great and most other major cloning software has been upgraded to support NVMe as well. If you happen to be upgrading from an older smaller NVMe SSD and only have a single SSD slot, you may need an external NVMe M.2 enclosure. Dyson Air Purifier Review: TP04 vs. TP02 vs. DP04 vs. HP04 vs. HP02 vs. BP01

07:53
In this Dyson air purifier review and comparison we put Dyson to the test and compare the TP04 vs. TP02 vs. DP04 vs. DP01 vs. HP04 vs. HP02 vs. BP01. Let's do it! Dyson TP04 - https://amzn.to/2EmCnNb Dyson TP02 - https://amzn.to/2NLvYwZ Dyson DP04 - https://amzn.to/2OwQC4g Dyson DP01 - https://amzn.to/30wsTZ7 Dyson HP04 - https://amzn.to/2VRKjRo Dyson HP02 - https://amzn.to/2NNJG24 Dyson BP01 - https://amzn.to/2Ejp402 The selection of Dyson air purifiers can be broken down into a 4 different model families that range in size and features. For the sake of simplicity, you can think about the Dyson naming convention using the key below. BP Series = Body Cooling Air Purifiers: This series only includes the Dyson Pure Cool Me BP01 air purifier and is the newest purifier to his the market from Dyson. It’s small and designed purifier in a small space. TP Series = Tower Cooling Air Purifiers: This series includes the Dyson Pure Cool TP01, TP02, and TP04. These are tall, tower-style cooling air purifiers that use the Pure Cool Dyson technology to deliver cooled purifier air to large spaces. DP Series = Desk Cooling Air Purifiers: This series includes the Pure Cool DP01, DP02, DP03, and DP04. These models are cooling air purifiers designed to sit on your desk or tabletop. They use the Pure Cool Dyson technology and can have a round or oval amp, depending on the model. HP Series = Heating Air Purifiers: This series includes the HP01, HP02, and HP04. These purifiers are more compact, like the DP series, but larger than the BP series. In addition, they have both heating and cooling capabilities. The design of Dyson air purifiers have a few common elements between all models. These elements are generally consistent across all Dyson models and makes up some of the notable features that makes a Dyson a Dyson. Some of these design elements include: 1. Bladeless Airflow Movement All Dyson air purifiers are bladeless. What’s that mean? As mentioned above, they have an amp that treats the air as it flows through. The bladeless design is easier to clean and can wiped down with a dry or damp cloth. 2. Quiet Operation The bladeless design also allows for quieter operation. Dyson Pure Cool TP04 air intake Dyson Pure Cool TP04 air intake Traditional fans vs. Dyson purifiers: Traditional fans make noise by constantly “chopping” the air as they rotate. In terms of air purifiers specifically, the rotating fans may be less relevant, as most purifiers do not double as fans, but its feels worth mentioning. 3. Dual Purpose: Purifier + Fan Dyson air purifiers all double as fans providing dual purpose within a single unit. This is unusual for most other air purifiers outside of the Dyson lineup. In addition to operating as a fan and a purifier, they also they also have the added bonus of offering models with heating and cooling (like the HP series) or just cooling only (like the TP series, DP series, or BP series). 4. App Control (via Dyson Link) Dyson Link technology is what makes your fan accessible from your smartphone. NOTE: It’s important to note than not all Dyson purifiers are compatible with app control, but all purifiers that ARE, rely on the Dyson Link app as the central control hub. Using the Link app, Dyson air purifiers are able to sense and report stats about the air quality in the room. When conditions dip below a certain level, the system will automatically turn on and the purifier will begin to treat the air. For reference, the Dyson Link app allows the following quick functions: Purifier Activity – Monitors air quality and recommends action with needed. Filter Life – Studies the quality of the filter and will let you know when it’s time to replace. Remote Control – Allows you to remotely control the air purifier without touching the actual unit. Appealing Food Packaging - Gelagri products and DuPont printing technology

02:45
http://www2.dupont.com/Food__Innovations/en_GB/packaging/food-packaging.html?src=fdemea_uk_you_pac The company Gelagri leads the French market for vegetables and frozen ready meals, and is number five in Europe. Our main base is on two sites in Brittany, with another two sites in Spain. Eight hundred people work for the company. Our main products are single vegetables, which make up 50%, mixes which are the basics, and ready meals. To get a really good result from flexo printing, the key is to work with the whole range of contributors, from the creative agency to photoengraving and the choice of materials. This will optimise the result and give a high quality end product. The main benefits from switching to flexo are economic, in terms of both the print quality and the quantity printed. With rotogravure, we have to print large quantities, but flexo allows us to print only what we need. Today's end customer wants a good quality product but within, let's say, their economic frame of reference. They want ready meals, but at a reasonable price. The packaging needs to reassure customers that what they are buying is exactly what they'll be eating, so our job in the industry is to reinforce their decision to buy. 1:39 To get a really good result when printing, it's really important for the whole graphics production chain to communicate and collaborate, right from the design agency to the printers, including the tradeshop. With the right choice of materials, the right photopolymer plate, this will really give the desired graphic outcome. Our printers often choose Cyrel® sheets by Dupont, since they are renowned for their results, consistent quality and durability throughout the print run. What I really appreciate about DuPont is, although they're not a direct supplier, you work together to take the flexo printing forward and get the best possible result, for us as printers and therefore also as a supplier to our customers.

https://www.socoselling.com Learn the importance of studying your competitors and learning from them, right here in this video. In this video: 00:21 Your competition is helping you 01:03 How can you learn from competitors? 01:26 What you must do right now Hi everyone, it's Tom Abbott here, founder of Soho Sales Coaching, sales trainer, coach, keynote speaker and author of ‘The SOHO Solution: 21 Selling Strategies For Growing Your Small Business' with a tip on how you can increase sales and grow your business. Your Competition Is Helping You Your competition is helping you and they don’t even know it. Perhaps you’re thinking, “What do you mean they’re helping me? They’re trying to put me out of business!” Well, here’s some good news. Your competitors are posting information on their websites about their history, products, services, terms and conditions, delivering information, prices packages, frequently asked questions - and sometimes even their suppliers or partners. Your competitors are doing this to try to inform their customers. But this information is available to you as well. How Can You Learn From Competitors? To help you learn from competitors, here are some questions worth asking: What do they do very well? What don’t they do quite as well as you do? How are they positioning themselves? What areas are beyond their expertise? Are there opportunities for you to fill the gaps? What You Must Do Right Now Your task today is to study the competition. Visit the websites of your top competitors and take note of their offerings. This will provide a frame of reference for identifying your position in the market. There are two noticeable things you'll adjust with a fairway wood vs. other clubs, ball position and feet width. For stock iron shots, I like to see the ball position somewhere between sternum location or shirt buttons and shirt. For fairway woods, we're going to want the ball to be a little bit more forward. It should be somewhere between your iron ball position and your driver ball position. So, with the three wood and the five wood, shirt logo would be about as far back to the right I would put the ball. If we're hitting a wood, the intent is to hit it pretty far. My width of stance can help with pressure shifts and to hit the ball a little bit farther. For the shorter irons, I like to see the ankles about in line with the shoulders as a baseline. For the woods, feet are a little bit wider. Whatever feels you would use for your swing normally - shallowing your downswing, working on grip, working on a backswing plane, etc - you're going to do for this club as well. People ask all the time, Eric is a, is a fairway wood a different swing than an iron swing? Well, it depends on how you reference the question. If we measured it with the gears or 3D might there be differences because the club is different? Yes. But for you, in terms of your intent, should you be trying to do something different than your normal? No. Whatever pieces you're working on mechanically, you should be feeling those same pieces with your three wood and five wood as well. In the Trackman session in this video you can see a couple of the key parameters that are different between the three wood and the eight iron specifically. We look at some speed differences, how the angle of attack and low point changes, some dynamic loft and other things. We can see what's actually different as measured by the numbers between the clubs and how can that help us in terms of swinging the club any differently. Overwhelmingly, most of you guys and galls watching this video regardless of skill level should hit your fairway wood off the ground AS FEW TIMES AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. The risk of hitting the ball off of the turf compared to hitting a different shot is far too great relative to the reward. My point here is that you're going to have to hit this club really, really well and the margin of error is just so small. The club is long, the balls on the ground and there's not a lot of loft on there. It's just a hard shot. If you don't break 90 on a regular basis, you probably should not be hitting this club. Get in love with a hybrid or a shorter club. Learn how to hit those good. Learn how to hit your wedges clothes from there and score outside of that. A three wood can be utilized off the tee. ________________ Follow and Like us at: http://www.instagram.com/ericcogorno http://www.pinterest.com/ericcogornogolf #ericcogornogolf **I may earn a small commission for my endorsement, recommendation, testimonial, and/or link to any products or services recommended on Eric Cogorno Golf sites. SKY News : 27th March 2018 - Government Denies Victims Legal Aid

02:44
SKY News : Tuesday 27th March 2018 Victims of the Tainted Blood Scandal have been refused legal funding to help them prepare for a public inquiry. Campaigners have described the decision as "outrageous", with the Cabinet Office accused of treating victims as "cheaply and insultingly as possible". More than 7,500 people, most of them haemophiliacs, were infected with HIV and hepatitis C by contaminated blood products imported from the US in the 1970s and 1980s. At least 3,000 subsequently died - and last year, after years of campaigning by victims and relatives of those who died, Theresa May agreed to a public inquiry chaired by Justice Brian Langstaff. Eight campaign groups will meet him on Wednesday to discuss the terms of reference for the inquiry, having failed to secure funding for legal representation during a consultation period that concludes at the end of April. They had cited the example of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, in which 71 people were killed, and for which the Prime Minister committed to pay £3.5m to meet the legal expenses of families and victims ahead of their inquiry. This week, victims of the blood contamination scandal were told they would not receive any financial assistance. In a letter seen by Sky News, the Cabinet Office lead for the inquiry said the funding for Grenfell Tower victims was due to the "exceptional nature and gravity" of the tragedy and said "the circumstances of the infected blood inquiry are different". In response, the blood campaigners noted that 70 more people have been killed as a result of infection since the inquiry was announced last year, and wrote: "'This is totally unacceptable and has only fuelled the longheld feeling of this community that the victims and families of this scandal should be dealt with as cheaply and as insultingly as possible." Demanding to know how their case was different to the Grenfell tragedy, it added there were several "newly grief stricken families in our community also". The statement continued: "The "nature and gravity" of the contaminated blood scandal goes unrivalled in modern times. The number of dead is in the thousands. "You seem to be suggesting that the slow and agonising deaths that occur as a result of hepatitis and HIV/AIDS resulting in loss of mental capacity, bodily function and causing severe pain... is in some way a lesser tragedy than the events at Grenfell." Stuart McLean is one of the victims who has been campaigning for an inquiry and seeking financial assistance. Almost uniquely, he is not a haemophiliac but was infected with hepatitis C when he was eight, and incorrectly treated with a contaminated blood product for a swollen knee. In his first interview, he told Sky News that he did not discover he was infected until 35 years later. "My world stopped when I found out," he said. "My career came to an end and within a few days I found myself standing on a motorway bridge thinking about jumping off. It was only the thought of my grandson that made me step back from the edge." Mr McLean said that he needed legal funding to help him argue that he should be a "core participant" and that his case should be included in the terms of reference. He added: "It is disgusting that they have said no to this funding which is crucial to people like me, who need lawyers to help us ensure we are treated fairly. "And it is an insult to all of us to say we are not as worthy as the Grenfell Tower victims. "You cannot make comparisons and we are right behind the Grenfell people but 70 people have died from contaminated blood since this inquiry was announced, that's almost the same as Grenfell in less than a year, and in the last 35 years it is the greatest scandal in the NHS. "I have very little confidence in this inquiry at the moment. "They seem to be putting stumbling blocks in our way before it has started." Broadcast time : 7.40pm - Running time : 2.43

TOR156: Designing Products For Underserved Populations with Krista Donaldson of D-Rev

44:33
A great deal of the actual “work” delivered in the social sector comes in the form of services. Of these services, the lowest hanging fruit is skill building, often known as capacity building. But there are, of course, many other flavors of services - everything from helping to draft policies and plans, to the know-how behind running a power grid, to mapping service centers for at-risk youth. My point here is that delivering services is a tried and tangible means for getting your hands dirty helping others. While not new by any account, one of the more exciting areas of the social sectors is the delivery of products. I think product delivery is especially interesting for a number of reasons. The design and delivery of products offer the opportunity for true leapfrog moments, and the measurement of success of a product is extremely tangible. Finally, in most cases the evolution of a product, as it iterates and is improved over time, is again extremely tangible. But, as we already know, designing, delivering and properly servicing products is a challenging prospect, even in the best of circumstances. When you also add the challenges associated with emerging economies and context, those challenges are multiplied. This is why I’m excited to have Krista Donalson as my guest for the 156th Terms of Reference Podcast. Krista is the CEO of D-Rev, an organization that designs and delivers medical technologies that close the quality healthcare gap for under-served populations. As you’ve come to expect from our guests, Krista has been driving innovation in product design, engineering, and international development for more than 15 years. And, Her work has won her acclaim as one of Fast Company’s Co.Design 50 Designers Shaping the Future, a TED speaker, and a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer. You’re going to love this conversation about D-Rev’s origins, the choices made to focus their product lines and the challenges around finding high-quality suppliers and servicing. We also talk about my favorite aspect of their work - the never ending march towards making products that people are obsessed with.

HACCP - Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points

01:23
http://food-safety-training.net Physical contamination is something, usually, that is physically noticed in the food product, such as hair, string, metal, stones, plastic, etc. This is generally more of a nuisance factor unless the contaminant is a food safety hazard such as glass shards. But even a hair in food is classed as contamination and is illegal. Chemical contamination is the introduction or presence of chemicals in food, which can give rise to more chronic effects on health. (Chronic = long term effects, Acute = short term effects). So cleaning chemicals, petrol fumes, aftershave/perfume, arsenic from pest control chemicals, agricultural residues, pesticides, an excess of additives/preservatives, etc. are all classed as chemical contaminants. Allergenic contamination is the presence or introduction of a substance that could invoke an allergic reaction from a consumer. The main allergens are referred to as “The Big 8”: Peanuts Tree Nuts Milk Protein Fish Shellfish Wheat Soya Eggs People can also be affected by seeds such as sesame or celery, fruit and vegetables and alcohol (especially the contents of alcoholic drinks such as sulphites or yeast). A severe allergic reaction to food can give rise to an anaphylactic shock (anaphylaxis), which is life threatening. Anaphylaxis is the body’s way of overcompensating for what it believes is the ingestion of “poison” The body is very adept in fighting infection, either from outside the body or within. Inside our body, for example, we have sensors covering the membranes of our mouth, throat and oesophagus. These sensors (Chemo-receptors to give them their correct name) monitor all food and drink that enter the mouth and oesophagus on its journey to the stomach and eventual digestion. If the sensors pick up signals of what is perceived to be a poison, i.e. something that could harm the human body, they send messages to the brain, which instigates an attack on the “poison”. Scientists have not worked out why this happens with allergens, as they are not poisonous, but the sensors mistakenly send signals to the brain to act accordingly. The attack mode the brain uses is to instruct cells from the immune system (white blood cells) to release histamine to attack the “perceived poison”. However, during anaphylaxis, the brain overcompensates and instructs too many of the cells to release the histamine. This results in symptoms of a rash, swelling of the throat and oesophagus and subsequent blocking of the trachea, causing respiratory failure, collapse and death. People who are subject to such attacks are prescribed an Epi-pen, which contains adrenalin. (Epi stands for Epinephrine, which is the American term for Adrenalin) When this is injected into the person’s thigh will cause the symptoms to subside. What are the steps in setting up a HACCP system? The Codex Alimentarius Commission has provided a 12-point system for setting this Food Safety Management System into operation: Bring together and provide training for the HACCP team and define the terms of reference. Provide a full description of the product, recipe and process. Identification of end user. Construction of flow diagram. Walk the Talk by confirming the flow diagram. Identification of hazards, risks, severity and control measures. Determination of the critical control points. Establishment of critical limits and target levels for each control point. Provision of a monitoring procedure for each critical control point. Corrective action to be undertaken when a critical control point is moving out of control. Introduce verification Establishment of documentation and what records require maintaining. The HACCP course is very straightforward to understand, although there are far too many definitions and phrases to remember, especially when the underlying principle of this system is to prevent contamination entering the Food Safety Chain. http://food-safety-training.net
