An Easier Way to License CSR1000v with Cisco Smart Licensing

11:34
: Cisco Traditional PAK license will be a challenge when you start to mange virtual devices. PAK license is tied to device’s SN (Serial Number). Take CSR1000v for example, SN will change when you create a new CSR which results old PAK license doesn’t work on new CSR. The recommended way is to manage virtual device license through Cisco Smart Licensing. In this video, I will walk through how to license CSR1000v with Smart Licensing.

Cisco Used vs Certified Cisco Refresh: What's the Difference?

03:44
We show you the differences between used Cisco and certified Cisco Refresh. Used Cisco can be purchased anywhere and is not safe for your network, see why you should think again when purchasing used Cisco. To learn more about certified remanufactured Cisco - https://www.hummingbirdnetworks.com/cisco-refresh-refurbished-cisco/ Visit us- https://www.hummingbirdnetworks.com/ Transcript of the video Cisco Used vs Certified Cisco Refresh: What's the Difference? (The speaker is John Ciarlone from Hummingbird Networks who is sitting facing the camera directly) What are the advantages of Cisco refresh over Cisco Used? When comparing Cisco refresh with used Cisco there are many differences and important facts we would like to make you aware of. We should also define some key terms: used versus refurbished or what is sometimes known as remanufactured. First let's discuss used Cisco. Used Cisco equipment can most accurately defined as equipment that has been used and pulled out of someone's network at some point. When it was removed from the network it could have been working or it could have been in a failed condition. In most cases equipment pulled from networks is far behind and software and firmware revisions and sits on a shelf collecting dust until someone decides to part with it. If you were to purchase this equipment on what's commonly called the grey market you might be putting your network at risk. Here's a few reasons why: there are currently no standards right now on what makes a used piece of networking equipment safe and risk-free. You won't have access to firmware and software updates which is normally covered under Cisco's maintenance and hardware warranty program, SMARTnet. Cisco has recently become very strict about allowing used or secondhand or grey market equipment to be covered under SMARTnet if you were to call and try to add it. One of the reasons for this is that the product authenticity or working state cannot be verified. Where does that leave you potentially? Your network open to potential security, safety and network integrity problems? Is it worth that small upfront savings just to spend 10 to 100 times more later if there's even just one problem. How much does it cost to roll a truck or potentially fly a tech to a remote location or just the potential overtime involved? Also when buying outside of the Cisco Refresh program the original warranty on a piece of Cisco gear does not transfer to the new owner. Even though some Cisco products come with a lifetime warranty, that only applies to the original owner. Cisco tracks their sales by serial number for good reason. You don't want to buy a Cisco product without a Cisco warranty. Furthermore, in rare cases, some Cisco products might have been obtained illegally or from different countries or even counterfeit and may not be supported. Used equipment has none of the same benefits as Cisco refresh products have. Now let's discuss Cisco remanufactured, now known as the Cisco refresh program. A definition for remanufactured is to refurbish a used product by renovating and reassembling its components. With Cisco Refresh all products are manufactured under strict guidelines with genuine Cisco parts and are fully tested and licensed by Cisco. Who would be better to put those products through the remanufacturing process other than the original manufacturer? Anything other than Certified Refurbished Cisco networking equipment could put your network at risk. Let's talk about total cost for a moment. When you purchase Cisco Refresh products from Hummingbird Networks there's only one cost, the product. Any other way you subject yourself to unknown costs, which might include inspection, relicensing fees, support and troubleshooting costs and of course the biggest ones of all, network outage costs and lost revenues. When buying in the Cisco refresh program you get the same accessories and support from Cisco as you would get from buying a new product including the ability to enroll the unit in a SMARTnet contract. When you physically look at a new product versus a Cisco Refresh product you can't even tell the difference between the two. That's done by design, Cisco wants you to have the same experience with their products whether you purchase them new or Cisco Refresh. When you weigh the costs between used vs Cisco Refresh the answer is clear. The peace of mind behind Cisco Refresh is far more beneficial than the slight difference in price between used and Cisco Refresh products.

Cisco 3750G Gigabit Layer 3 switch teardown, a detailed overview for CCNA lab and repair

33:54
Very detailed overview and a full tear-down of a Cisco 3750G-24TS-S gigabit Layer 3 switch. Since these switches are highly successful, they are used in a large number of companies and organisations as a distribution layer switch. This is why I though that it would be interesting and informative to do an educational video on the Cisco 3750G from the perspective of the CCNA certification and also for repair technicians. The video is divided in three main sections: 1.) in the first portion I go over the ports, feature sets, Stackwise and related informations 2.) the middle section of the video shows the dismantled motherboard looking at it like a CCNA candidate would, going into the boot process and trying to give a short brainstorming on what happens to a packet using the OSI model 3.) in the last portion the individual components are shown under a 10X optical magnification, so that we can figure out what are the components doing to help out repair technicians. Due to the long material, the third portion will be shown in a separate video. Parts list for the Mainboard discussed in the video: ==================================== Route Processor: Cisco Yeti (based on IBM PowerPC 405) ASIC for Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching: Cisco Sasquatch-I TCAM: Renases R8A20100BA (Marie series network processor and search engine) Buffer RAM for Store-and-Forward: Samsung K7N401801B Flash: 16MB chip from Intel for the IOS NVRAM: the flash contains also startup-config.txt and vlan.dat DRAM: SDRAM from Samsung ROMMON: I could not find where is the ROMMON located Serial Console: Max3232 RS232 transceiver Parts list for the components: ==================================== These are presented in Part2 of this video series.

QoS is the measure of transmission quality and service availability of a network (or internetworks). Service availability is a crucial foundation element of QoS. The network infrastructure must be designed to be highly available before you can successfully implement QoS. The target for High Availability is 99.999 % uptime, with only five minutes of downtime permitted per year. The transmission quality of the network is determined by the following factors: •Loss—A relative measure of the number of packets that were not received compared to the total number of packets transmitted. Loss is typically a function of availability. If the network is Highly Available, then loss during periods of non-congestion would be essentially zero. During periods of congestion, however, QoS mechanisms can determine which packets are more suitable to be selectively dropped to alleviate the congestion. •Delay—The finite amount of time it takes a packet to reach the receiving endpoint after being transmitted from the sending endpoint. In the case of voice, this is the amount of time it takes for a sound to travel from the speaker’s mouth to a listener’s ear. •Delay variation (Jitter)—The difference in the end-to-end delay between packets. For example, if one packet requires 100 ms to traverse the network from the source endpoint to the destination endpoint and the following packet requires 125 ms to make the same trip, then the delay variation is 25 ms. Each end station in a Voice over IP (VoIP) or Video over IP conversation uses a jitter buffer to smooth out changes in the arrival times of voice data packets. Although jitter buffers are dynamic and adaptive, they may not be able to compensate for instantaneous changes in arrival times of packets. This can lead to jitter buffer over-runs and under-runs, both of which result in an audible degradation of call quality. Translation: In packet tracer, I’m going to start simulation mode and then on PC 1, I’m going to open up a web browser and go to Cisco.com. Now the first thing that PC needs to do is determine the IP address of Cisco.com. So it’s going to send out a DNS request message for Cisco.com. So scrolling down here notice we’ve got a DNS query for Cisco.com. Capture forward; that gets sent to the router. When it gets sent across the serial link, notice the DSCP is set to zero. No quality of service is applied to this packet. So that will go to the DNS server. DNS server will reply back. Packet will go back to the PC and now the PC can send TCP traffic to the router. PC is going through the three way handshake. Notice now we get HTTP traffic. Notice on inbound, HTTP traffic, in this case we’ve got an HTTP request. Doesn’t have DSCP markings but on outbound, out of the router the DSCP is set. So capture forward, notice how this packet has a little square here showing us that DSCP was set on ingress DHCP is also set on egress. So capture forward, what you’ll notice is, we have this little square to indicate that quality of service value has been specified on the packet....

Meraki MV21 Security Camera Unboxing and Review

08:49
John from Hummingbird Networks unboxes and reviews the Meraki MV21 security camera. He also shows you the Meraki dashboard and how the MV security camera line allows you to view all of your camera streams from anywhere in the world using a browser. He also goes over the advanced features of the camera/dashboard such as customizable monitoring, granular controls, drag and drop camera feeds, and alert monitoring. To learn more about Meraki MV21 or any other product in the Meraki line visit us www.hummingbirdnetworks.com. You can also get a free trial of any Meraki product to test in your own network. Contact us for more details. Transcript: Hi, I’m John from Hummingbird Networks and today we are going to be unboxing and reviewing the Meraki MV21 indoor security camera. Like with all of the Meraki products, it is 100% cloud managed through the Meraki dashboard which is great for security cameras. Let me explain why. Most security cameras that you install are difficult to setup and maintain and almost always need extra server hardware and storage, such as a NVR (Network Video Recorder). With Meraki Vision security cameras, all of those extras are removed from the equation, thus reducing your equipment investment. All the hardware you'll need is what’s contained in the box. Stay tuned for part 2 of this video, where we go over how easy it is to add the camera, serial number, and license key to the dashboard. So let’s open it up and take a look at the MV21. Starting with basic functionality it features: • A 5 megapixel image sensor • Can record at a standard 720p resolution • Frame rates are 8fps or 15fps • Includes automatic Infra-Red night vision • Has visibility ranges of about 100 ft in low-light conditions • Standard PoE power, using about 11 watts (Do not put the rest of this sentence on screen- If you don't have a PoE switch, it can also be used with a PoE power injector at your switch. There is no AC adapter option. But these are all pretty common, what sets the Meraki vision line apart from all of the other security cameras available on the market, is the onboard 128 GB of memory that stores up to about 3 weeks of continuous recording of fully encrypted footage directly on each device. This eliminates the expensive network infrastructure and server bandwidth requirements that traditional cameras use. The MV21 typically only uses 50kb of bandwidth for metadata storage. It has failover protection, and will continue to record, even without network connectivity. One of the coolest features isn’t even on the camera, it’s behind the camera – so to speak. Through the Meraki dashboard you will be able to view all of your available streams through any web browser, anywhere in the world, without any special software or browser plugins. It's the same dashboard you would use for your Meraki firewalls, AP's, phones, and switches. So, if you already have Meraki products, it's the same simple interface you are used to. Inside the dashboard, you can customize what you want to monitor and who has access to it with granular controls. For example, your receptionist may only need to see who's outside the front door, but not inside the product test lab. Drag and drop camera feeds, and save layouts. You can view one camera at a time, or up to 12 at a time through video walls. Meraki technology has built in motion and change detection and you can set up to receive alerts through the dashboard when these are triggered. So for example- say something gets stolen, the system software can locate the time the change occurred within seconds, no more manually scanning through hours of video to find the thief. There are also export tools allow footage to be shared with staff or law enforcement. I'd like to point out that this model does not include a pan tilt zoom feature, but I am confident that this feature will be coming on newer models in the future. Like other stationary cameras, you have to manually set this camera when you are mounting it, but the good news is that you don't need tools to adjust anything. Furthermore, to get the exact placement you want, you can view the image while using your smart phone or tablet to help you set your image area while you are mounting it. Of course standard with all Meraki products, you need a license for use. With each license, software updates and new features are included and is automatically pushed out to the cameras. Meraki is constantly coming up with new improvements and new features. The license also includes 24/7 technical support. License management for all your products is built into the Meraki Dashboard and all your Meraki products will have one license expiration date, which simplifies network administration. We have an entire video dedicated to Meraki Licensing. This camera truly is the only plug and play security camera available. APC 7920 PDU #2 DIY cheap serial console cable for password reset

40:56
A step-by-step tutorial on making a specialized serial cable for resetting the password on an APC 7920 PDU. This cable should work on a wide variety of PDUs and UPS units from APC. The equivalent console cable from APC (model: 940-0144A) is hard to find, and it costs 20-40Euros even used from Ebay when you include shipping, so it is easier/cheaper to make it yourself. Total cost for building components is around 2 Euros. PINOUT: ================================================== RJ12 (APC) DB9 (female serial) Pin 2 -----------to----------- Pin 5 (GND) Pin 3 -----------to----------- Pin 2 (RX) Pin 4 -----------to----------- Pin 3 (TX) ================================================== One end of the APC serial console cable uses the RJ12 plug with 6 pins, while the other goes to a standard 9-pin DB9 female connector. Here the most simple null-modem cable is built without any hardware handshaking (there are only three wires connected). The other wires are not necessary, they are there only to improve the mechanical stability of the connector. I have bought the RJ12 plug, the DB9 female connector and the plastic housing for the DB9 connector from Conrad Electronics who sells worldwide, so if you want to order the same things, or want to see what to order from an other store, just click on the links below. I had the Cat5 cable and the RJ12 crimper tool laying around. To save money, you can easily get 1-2 meters of Cat5 cable and just borrow an RJ12 crimper tool from your job or from a friend. The colors I picked from the Cat5 cable for better contrast: green-white (RJ12, Pin 1) ------not connected green (RJ12, Pin 2) -----------to----------- Pin 5 of DB9 (GND) orange (RJ12, Pin 3) -----------to----------- Pin 2 of DB9 (RX) brown (RJ12, Pin 4) -----------to----------- Pin 3 of DB9 (TX) orange-white (RJ12, Pin 5) ------not connected brown-white (RJ12, Pin 6) ------not connected blue ------cut it off blue-white ------cut it off RJ12 plug: http://www.conrad.com/ce/en/product/1303477/econ-connect-MPL66R-Pin-RJ12-Plug-straight-Clear?ref=searchDetail DB9 plug: http://www.conrad.com/ce/en/product/1303906/D-SUB-pin-strip-180-Number-of-pins-9-Solder-bucket-econ-connect-1-pcs?ref=searchDetail DB9 plastic casing (optional): http://www.conrad.com/ce/en/product/1311408/D-SUB-housing-Number-of-pins-9-Plastic-180-Black-econ-connect-1-pcs?ref=searchDetail

Meraki MC74 Phone Unboxing and Review

04:35
John from Hummingbird Networks unboxes and reviews the Cisco Meraki MC74 phone. The MC74 is the flagship phone from the Meraki Communications line sets a new standard for voice systems. The MC74 has a 7" full-color touchscreen dashboard that allows you to manage the full system, make and take calls, add contact information, transfer, and so much more. See all of the great features of the MC74 in the video or read more here- https://www.hummingbirdnetworks.com/meraki-phone-mc74/ Hummingbird Networks is a certified Meraki partner with an extensive knowledge and inventory of the full Meraki portfolio- chat with an expert here- https://www.hummingbirdnetworks.com/ Transcript: Hi, I’m John from Hummingbird Networks and today we’re going to be unboxing and reviewing the MC74 Meraki phone. The MC74 is the flagship phone from the Meraki communications line of products and like with all Meraki products, it is 100% cloud managed through the Meraki Dashboard. Stay tuned for part 2 of this video, where we go over how to add the phone, serial number, and choose phone service. Part 3 shows you how to configure and use the Meraki phone and the system. And finally, Part 4 shows the user portal. Let’s go ahead and open this box up and show you the MC74. • This is a SIP phone, with fully encrypted voice • 7” high resolution touchscreen display at 1280x800, think of it like a blank canvas for the software engineers. All designed to be very intuitive for the user, similar to a smartphone. • Updates to phone will either just appear or will update with firmware updates, which are included with your license, which we will discuss more later • Ambient light sensor • High Quality speaker • Microphone sensor on front • Multi-color notification and status LED, like for when phone is booting or when you miss a call. • Volume control • Magnetic handset, no physical hook switch to get gunky, dirty, etc. Easy to put the phone back. • Wideband audio for great sound quality • Can place calls using handset, USB, or Bluetooth, and approved cell phone headsets. Meraki's website has the list. • 2 USB headset jacks- o One on the front and one on the back • 3.5mm headset audio jack • Pass through 1G Ethernet port on rear for voice and data VLAN • Standard PoE or you can use an optional power adapter sold separately • This is a neat feature- the cord snap in the back- this eliminates a lot of tangling and tugging issues that occur, and eliminates a common failure point from cord stress. • Integrated and adjustable desk stand • Mounting bracket for optional wall mounts with leveling bubble, similar to their AP’s. • 2 Year Warranty- double the industry standard. These phones are built to last. • This phone requires you to purchase a license, which I will explain shortly, and I even have a video that explains all the benefits of a Meraki license in great detail. The Meraki communications phone system itself provides all of the communication essentials you would want including: • Visual voicemail • Voicemail to email • Interactive voice response (IVR) • Contact integration • Extension to extension calling • Hold/Transfer • Ad hoc conferencing, known as Conference Rooms • Mute • Emergency E911 Support • More Like other Meraki products, the MC74 does require phone licensing which covers access to your dashboard, all software and firmware updates, feature upgrades, and 24x7 tech support for both the hardware and phone line connectivity issues. This is very helpful, you do not have to call your provider for one type of problem, and Meraki for another. It’s one support call for all. The licensing model will really help to reduce your IT budget since you won’t need to rip out and replace the phones with new ones when new technology comes available, you’ll get new software updates through the license subscription. From its design to its ease of use, this phone provides the best communication experience available today. Hummingbird Networks is a Authorized Cisco Meraki reseller partner. If you need more information about this phone or have any questions about any Meraki product, we can help. Just give us a call. Thanks for watching.
