Fibre Channel vs Ethernet

07:35
FC or Ethernet, which is best for storage? For net new implementations, the points on each side could be debated but for 60%-80% of the market that already has FC embedded, it is hard to justify a switch to Ethernet. In fact, as we discussed in our video, "Chalk Talk Video -- The Software Defined Data Center Needs Next Generation Storage Networks", there are many compelling reasons to not only stay with Fibre Channel but to also expand its use throughout the data center. In this video, we chalk-talk this topic with Brocade's VP of Product Marketing Scott Shimomura and Storage Switzerland Lead Analyst George Crump.

Why 10 Gigabit Ethernet? (Introducing 10 gigabit)

12:46
Part 2 is already live here: http://youtu.be/EUaIQYZPZmo Full Article: https://teksyndicate.com/videos/10-gigabit-ethernet-lets-get-serious-2-part This video is just a 15 minute introduction to 10 gigabit ethernet and where it is used effectively (hint: it has nothing to do with your internet connection). 10 gigabit, for now at least, works a little differently than gigabit. It's not quite the same upgrade as going from 100 megabit to 1 gigabit, but it is similar in a lot of ways. In this video we want to indtroduce you to 10 gigabit ethernet and introduce some hardware from Intel, Marvell and Netgear that operates at 10 gigabit. We'll also take a quick look at SFP+/fiberoptic 10 gigabit ethernet, and the ASRock X99 WS motherboard that has built-in Intel 10 gigabit adapters. 10 gig ethernet is so fast that most computers just can't push 10 gigabits of traffic through a single queue; today it is like it was when gigabit ethernet first came out. We have a lot of content coming up for 10 gigabit and this video is a good introduction if you are familiar with networking concepts and have at least a basic understanding of how networks are put together. We mention a lot of topics that will be making an appearance in the future, and we will talk about why 10 gigabit "works differently" right now than gigabit ethernet. This video will help organize the videos we're going to post to our other channels and we will provide a reference back to this video that provides an overview of 10 gigabit and what it means for us in general terms. If you are completely lost, check out the Home Server 101 video below; we'll have an update to that video in a few months. Once you're hooked on having a (home) server to do your bidding, the value here will be more apparently. Celebrating 40 Years of Ethernet Innovation - Session 3

01:14:22
Wednesday 22nd May 2013 Celebrating 40 years of Ethernet Innovation -- Session 3 Session #3: The Status of Ethernet Today "In future there will be one universal language -- not English, not Mandarin, but Ethernet" according to Nan Chen, president, MEF. As we approach that reality, connecting both people and machines, it is time to take stock and ask "where are we now?" and "what is the next step?" Panellists: Sachin Gupta, Snr. Director, Enterprise Networking Group, Cisco; Arpit Joshipura, Vice President of Product Marketing, Dell; Mike Banic, VP Marketing, HP Networking; Steve Collen, VP of enterprise marketing Juniper Panel 3a. Ethernet in enterprise networking Introduced and Chaired by Rohit Mehra, Vice President, Network Infrastructure, IDC Ethernet has proved to be the answer, but can we clarify the question? A panel of CIOs and senior execs from industry leaders spells out the key challenges facing enterprise IT today -- including virtualization, BYOD, management and security. Is technology serving business needs, or is the tail wagging the dog? Our panel clarifies the way forward, and challenges Ethernet designers to evolve solutions -- as they have consistently managed in the past. Panel 3b. Ethernet in carrier networks Introduced and Chaired by Tam Dell'Oro, Founder & President, Dell'Oro Group In this panel, senior executives from service providers and carrier solution vendors discuss the relatively recent role of Ethernet in bridging the "telechasm" separating the LAN and WAN. As Ethernet approaches the universal language predicted by Nan Chen, it looks less and less like a networking technology, and more and more like a service offering -- with serious implications for the carrier market. Our panel needs to identify the critical issues and lay down a new road map for the way forward. Panellists: Howard Charney, Senior Vice President, Office of the President, Cisco; Said Ouissal, Vice President, Juniper ; Mark Durrett, Director, Marketing, Overture; James Walker, Vice President, Managed Network Services, TATA Communications ; Ms Yali Z Liu, Executive Director, Product Technology, Verizon

Recep Ozdag, Product Marketing Manager, talks about Intel being chosen by IT pros as the 2013 Innovation Leader for Ethernet NICs. IT Brand Pulse handed out the honors at the Ethernet Technology Summit. The IT Brand Pulse leader awards--covering a wide range of products including networking, servers, and storage--measure the perceptions of IT professionals in large enterprise, medium enterprise and HPC environments. For different product categories each month, the surveys ask respondents to choose overall market leaders, as well as leaders for price, performance, reliability, service & support, and innovation. "The IT Brand Pulse awards reflect the judgment of major customers and key IT personnel at important data centers. They are the only awards based on the experience of those who actually buy and use the products," said Lance Leventhal, Program Chairperson, Ethernet Technology Summit. "Monthly surveys assure that the responses are recent and up-to-date. Receiving an IT Brand Pulse award shows that a company is doing the job where it really counts -- in the field!"

Building a Brand without big budgets, why it works. Ten Pragmatics rules you can use in building your brand without resources: 1. The CEO must own the marketing function. The CEO can never delegate marketing responsibility. The CEO must take ownership of marketing by example to the organization to be an effective Radical Marketing professional. 2. The CEO must not allow layers of marketing to evolve between the organization and the customer market. Radical marketers have the advantage of face to face interaction with customers on a direct basis. Marketing on a Radical basis need to be in direct face contact with those who matter the most and that is customer. 4. Radical marketers prefer techniques that are not mainstream market research rather they often check market research than embrace it without caution. 5. To be effective at Radical Marketing only missionaries who are passionate can be hired to accept the role of marketing, passion is the key attribute to have in the organization role of marketing. 6. Customers are at the core so Radical Marketers should respect and love the customer as an individual. Customers are the reason a company is successful. 7. Finding a Community of users or consumers is the first step to be a Radical Marketer. Customers should be able to think for themselves and the brand unifies the community. 8. The marketing campaign needs to often be re-mixed. Target marketing in short ad campaigns goes a long way without a larger budget. 9. Common sense should be celebrated so as to create unique and different ideas on how to market to the community of consumers. Radical Marketing desires the community of users to be loyal to the brand. 10. Brand integrity is foremost for a Radical Marketer. New Frontiers in C-RAN Fronthaul: to CPRI, or to not CPRI?

01:07:48
For more webinars, click here: https://technology.ihs.com/Events OVERVIEW Fronthaul has a fundamental role in the development of radio access networks (RANs), from centralized RANs to cloud RANs and beyond, but what are the challenges of moving to such C-RANs? And while vendors have leaned toward the Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) standard for fronthaul connections, CPRI-based links may not be the right fit as the 5G network of cloud-optimized RAN evolves. How does CPRI relate to fronthaul technologies such as WDM and optical Ethernet; and what alternative standards are emerging? How can fronthaul adapt to the demands of co-existing 4G and 5G networks; and what impact do technology choices have on deployment applications and new service opportunities? WHO SHOULD ATTEND Mobile operators; fixed-line operators; wholesale transport service providers; financial and industry analysts and the media are also encouraged to attend. KEY TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION - Migrating to C-RAN architecture: requirements, challenges and roadmap - Evolving fronthaul performance criteria: limitations of CPRI - 5G fronthaul technologies: WDM and Optical Ethernet capabilities and standards - Scaling and cloud-optimizing transport networks for the future - C-RAN deployment applications - Answers to audience questions during live Q&A SPEAKERS - Richard Webb, Research Director, Mobile Backhaul and Small Cells, IHS Markit - Stuart Whitehead, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Anritsu Corporation - Joe Mocerino, Principal Solutions Architect, Optical Networking, Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. - Hector Menendez, Product Marketing Manager, IP/Optical Networks, Nokia - Allen Tatara, Manager, Webinar Events, IHS Markit (Moderator)

As Eric states: “I think it is absolutely critical now to have that information, more than any other time. It is business critical. We cannot survive without having that information readily available – not only internally, but being able to provide that information back to a customer. Here’s how your service is performing. It’s now just a nice-to-have. It is now something that we’re mandated to provide to a customer.” The white papers can be accessed here: Understanding Carrier Ethernet Service Assurance – Part 1 (September 2016) - Understanding_Carrier_Ethernet_Service_Assurance_Part_I_FINAL.pdf Understanding Carrier Ethernet Service Assurance – Part 2 (September 2016)- Understanding_Carrier_Ethernet_Service_Assurance_Part_II_FINAL.pdf Filmed at: MEF 16, Baltimore, USA, 8 November 2016

Learn How Renesas Products Can Cut Down Time to Market and Time to Revenue with RTOS

03:11
https://www.futureelectronics.com/search/?text=R5F562 Hi I’m Sandra Donaher Product Marketing Manager at Future Electronics. Today we will look at the main reasons and benefits for using an RTOS, or Real Time Operating System. We’ll also take a look at how Renesas products can cut down time to market and time to revenue with RTOS. Many applications require the running of more than one task at the same time, multitasking has become a very important need to consider. Applications that require multitasking allocate processing time between various duties which must be performed by the software. This means the software is divided into pieces called tasks or threads and a run-time environment that provides each task with its own virtual processor is created. https://www.futureelectronics.com/search/?text=R5F10 Now let’s take a look at the benefits of multitasking. By using an RTOS, this will allow developers to have much faster response times, allowing them to concentrate on the specific requirements of each task without having to worry about what effect this might have on the response times of other tasks. With an RTOS, there is no need to worry about the effect of program modification on the responsiveness of other tasks. The multitasking capability of RTOS allows developpers to concentrate on the single task or piece of software they are working on without having to worry about processor allocation. One does not need to have knowledge of the the entire system’s requirements or run-time behavior. Future Electronics is offering the “Power of Two” program, which combines Micrium RTOS and middleware modules bundled with Renesas MCUs. Projects that qualify can bypass time consuming, expensive and tedious infrastructure code writing and have more time to perfect their designs and create new ones. Several engineers who are currently participating in the “Power of Two” program have reported that they are shaving months off development time, that they now have greater design flexibility with more creative design opportunities and enhanced system reliability. The “Power of Two” program allows developers several benefits including the elimination of many months of effort needed to create, test and debug fundamental system code. Peripheral-rich Renesas MCUs provide superior performance and versatility compared to others. Another great benefit is the access to State-of-the-art RTOS and Middleware modules. Additionally you will have access to one full year of technical design support to ensure a trouble-free design process and example projects that raise the starting point of a design to a higher level. Other benefits include Renesas FIT modules and Board Support Package and new code such as TCP/IP with IPv6 and USB Device with audio class. A second program offered by Future Electronics is the Renesas RZ Express Promotion. This program allows users to fast track their next Renesas design with free Express Logic ThreadX real-time operating system, middleware stack and more. Renesas and Express Logic have teamed up for this promotion, where qualified production customers of the Renesas RZ/A1 microprocessor can apply for a free, single-product license of Express Logic ThreadX RTOS and middleware stack with free software support from Express Logic for 90 days. Express Logic's ThreadX RTOS has been deployed in over 2 billion electronic products, with most of these products being powered by ARM-based processors. ThreadX and Express Logic's related middleware provide priority-based, preemptive real-time scheduling, messaging, USB Host/Device, IPv4/IPv6 networking, and GUI software support for these systems. Products from Express Logic strongly complement the Renesas RZ/A processor, which helps cut design costs by getting developpers to market quickly and reliably. The RZ Express offer from Renesas & Express Logic includes the ThreadX RTOS, TCP/IP Stack, USB Stack, File System, GUIX Graphics Package and 90 days of technical Support from Express Logic. For more information about RTOS, Renesas and the “Power of Two” and “RZ Express” programs and promotion details, visit our website at www.FutureElectronics.com.
