Mental math is easy: multiply 2-digit numbers with partial products (grade 4 math)

07:51
Partial products means we multiply numbers part-by-part. For example, 5 x 36 is done as 5 x 30 and 5 x 6, and those two parts are added. You can quite easily do these in your head when one number has two digits and the other has one. This concept is very important, as it is the basis for the regular multi-digit multiplication algorithm studied in 4th grade. I also teach it in my book Math Mammoth Multiplication 2 at http://www.mathmammoth.com/multiplication_2.php - available both as an inexpensive download ($5.10) and as a printed copy.

Multiply Numbers And Algebra Equations By Drawing Lines

Some people say this is "how the Japanese multiply." Others say this is "Vedic Math." I'm not sure of the origin, but this is a visual way to multiply two numbers and it does work. The video also shows how to use the same method to multiply algebraic expressions like (x + 2)(x + 3). Here's a blog post I wrote on this: http://mindyourdecisions.com/blog/2012/01/27/multiplicating-with-lines-math-trick-how-it-works/ Many people asked me to write a reference guide. What is Calculus? In this video, we give you a quick overview of calculus and introduce the limit, derivative and integral. We begin with the question “Who invented Calculus?” Next, we talk about the two main tools you’ll study: derivatives and integrals. To understand both of these you’ll first learn about limits. After you learn how to compute the derivative and integral for basic functions and apply them to real-world problems, you’ll move up to higher dimensions and study things like “partial derivatives” and “multiple integrals.” What to watch next: The Tangent Line & the Derivative http://bit.ly/TangentDerivative Product Rule for Derivatives http://bit.ly/ProductRule Quotient Rule http://bit.ly/QuotientRuleDer How to Study For a Test http://bit.ly/Study4Test How to Study Physics http://bit.ly/StudyTipsPhysics How to Study Programming http://bit.ly/Learn_Programming ************** Socratica Patreon https://www.patreon.com/socratica Socratica Paypal https://www.paypal.me/socratica We also accept Bitcoin! :) Our address is: 1EttYyGwJmpy9bLY2UcmEqMJuBfaZ1HdG9 ************** We recommend the following books: Innumeracy: Mathematical Illiteracy and Its Consequences http://amzn.to/2ri1nf7 The Art of Learning by Josh Waitzkin (Chess Prodigy) http://amzn.to/2r952QB Shop Amazon Used Textbooks - Save up to 90% http://amzn.to/2pllk4B ******* Written and Produced by Michael Harrison Michael Harrison received his BS in math from Caltech, and his MS from the University of Washington where he studied algebraic number theory. Is Math a Feature of the Universe or a Feature of Human Creation? | Idea Channel | PBS

08:45
Viewers like you help make PBS (Thank you 😃) . Support your local PBS Member Station here: https://to.pbs.org/donateidea Math is invisible. Unlike physics, chemistry, and biology we can't see it, smell it, or even directly observe it in the universe. And so that has made a lot of really smart people ask, does it actually even EXIST?!?! Similar to the tree falling in the forest, there are people who believe that if no person existed to count, math wouldn't be around . .at ALL!!!! But is this true? Do we live in a mathless universe? Or if math is a real entity that exists, are there formulas and mathematical concepts out there in the universe that are undiscovered? Or is it all fiction? Whew!! So many questions, so many theories... watch the episode and let us know what you think! Viral Math Problem | Find Number which is 5 times product of its Digits

03:54
Here is another cryptarithm for you. Alphametics denotes cryptarithms in which letters form meaningful words, often in meaningful phrases. This particular problem though does not belong to alphametic but still is a popular viral math brain teaser! Here is the problem. There is a 3 digit number. Let us call it XYZ, where x, y and z are the digits at each of the decimal places. This number has a special property! When you multiply these digits among themselves, their product is one fifth of the original number. In other words, the number XYZ is exactly 5 times the product of x, y and z. As you would have figured out by now, none of the digits can be zero, that is, x, y and z are three distinct positive integers between 1 and 9. Can you solve this viral math problem? Snacks for your brain. 'Epic IQ' is a minimal, visual & engaging approach to Learning, Information & Education. Solve puzzles and riddles. Learn new stuff. Prepare for tests and interviews. Have fun.

Lattice Multiplication Explained - Math Animation

02:59
Lattice multiplication is a fast and easy way to multiply numbers and even polynomials. You write the digits of one number as different columns and the digits of the other number as different rows. Then you multiply the digits in the columns and the rows, one by one, and add up the numbers diagonally. The exact origins of lattice multiplication are unknown, but it has been used for hundreds of years.
