The following video breaks down how a manufacturer should come up with a price for industrial finished goods. First, the company must account for its material costs and apply a 5 percent indirect cost to that portion of the manufacturer's price sheet. This 5 percent is meant to offset overruns in production and or additional costs of financing inventory and material purchases. Second, the company must account for its labor relative to each operation performed to turn a raw material into a finished good. The calculation involves defining the operation and applying the labor cost to both the setup time in manufacturing and the actual run time. Third, all labor costs are added in order to come up with a complete total for all the costs of manufacturing a given product. Those costs are then followed up by the company's overhead, which is calculated by taking its indirect expenses divided by its direct expenses. Indirect expenses are those expenses that are in addition to the the costs needed to produce a part. Direct expenses are exactly that. These include the costs involved or expenses involved in manufacturing the part. Finally, the company adds its mark-up in order to secure a profit on the sale. Profit is critical because it helps to fund the company's pursuit of new product introductions and secure its long-term future. The VINSPEC 3D INLINE inspection system scans castings that are large and complex, such as crankcases. The system is integrated in the production line with minimum cycle time and high throughput. The 3D scanner inspects components for surface defects and geometric deviations simultaneously and from all sides, irrespective of the component material. For example, crankcases are inspected for the integrity of external geometries, existence of structural openings, and damage and defects (for example, dents). For this purpose, the sides of the component are scanned simultaneously and each is captured as a 3D point cloud. The point cloud is compared to the 3D model stored for each side and deviations are identified. Various tolerances for width, length, depth, and volume can be defined. This robust inspection method is insusceptible to contamination and extremely stable. The system serves not only as a stationary scanning solution with 3D sensor system and moving part. The 3D scanner can also be connected to a robot. Process Optimization for Industry 4.0 All inspection results are transferred to an integrated database for documentation, archiving, and evaluation purposes. This makes it possible to detect defects throughout the entire process and manually correct them at the reworking station. Even data from external processes, such as X-ray inspections, can be captured and displayed. A combined evaluation of all component-related data supports more effective processes, reducing costs and optimizing product quality, keeping you one step ahead in the era of digitization.

In the labs, research and prototyping facilities, which will make up the battery cell competence centre, specialist departments will analyse cell design and cell technology. They will also create prototypes of future battery cells, focusing on the chemical composition of the cells, use of different materials, how the cell behaves in critical or extremely cold conditions, charging and rapid-charging behaviour and evaluating cell sizes and forms. Transcript: 1 In macroeconomics, we study the economy of one country. 2 Then try to understand how 2 countries interact and trade. 3 And hopefully, understand the global economy. 4 So today, we are going to study the circular flow of income. 5 Let’s make things really simple. 5 Imagine we are alone on an isolated island. There’s no government, no trade, no savings. I told you, it's simple! 6 There’s only firms and households. (2-sector economy: firms + households (closed economy)) 7 Firms provide households with goods and services. 7 Out of thin air? 7 Nah.. 8 Firms gotta get factors of production from households. 8 It can be labor, land, capital or… 8 Face it. Some of us in households are going to be entrepreneurs. (For more information on factors of production: check out this video) 8 So…entrepreneurship. 9 For free? You wish! 9 We don’t get freebies from firms. 9 We don’t provide labor for free either. 10 So there’s money flowing in the opposite direction. 11 Households gotta pay firms for the goods they get. 12 Firms also gotta pay households in the form of wages, rents, interests or profits. 12 But this is a little weird. 12 We don’t spend everything we earn in real life. 13 So let’s add savings. 13 Savings is money we don’t spend. 13 So there’s money flowing out. 14 Hey, savings don’t just sit in banks… 14 Banks invest in firms by lending to them. 14 Cos firms need money to buy capital equipment or cover other costs of production. 14 So there's investments flowing into the economy. 14 Bravo! Awesome! 14 But this is a little too simplified. 15 Let’s add government. (3 sector economy: firms + households + government) 15 Government buys stuff as well. 15 So there’s money flowing in. 16 Government gets money from taxes. 16 Taxes. So there’s money flowing out. 16 Cos for the money we’re paying as taxes, we cannoyt spend it. 17 Lastly, countries interact with one another. 17 Imagine this is an American economy. 18 Let’s add trade. (4 sector economy: firms + households + government + foreign sector) 18 America imports stuff. 18 For example, America can import shoes from China. 18 Shoes flow from China into America. 19 And money spent on imports flows out of America into China. 19 America exports too. 19 America can produce software 19 and export it to foreigners, 20 Money then flows from foreign countries into America. 20 This is America's export earnings. 21 Investments, Government Spending and Export earnings are called Injections. 21 Cos money is flowing in. 22 Savings, taxes and import spending are called leakages or withdrawals. 22 Cos money leaks out of the system. And hey, injections and leakages are sort of related. Investments come from savings. Government spending comes from taxes. America makes money from foreigners by exporting. But foreigners also make money from America when America imports. Wow…no wonder it's Circular Flow of Income It tells us roughly how an economy functions. 23 How do we measure the size of an economy then? 24 By measuring Gross Domestic Product or GDP. 24 GDP is the total value of all final goods and services produced within the borders of a country during a given period. 25 Why must it be FINAL goods and services? Look at the Circular Flow of Income. Who are the major players in an economy? In order of increasing complexity, there are: 2-sector economy: households + firms 3-sector economy: households + firms + government 4-sector economy: households + firms + government + foreign sector There are real goods and services flowing in one direction in the circular flow of income and money flowing in the opposite direction. When money flowing to the country, it's called injections. When money flows out, it's called withdrawals or leakages. Injections consist of government spending, investments and exports. Leakages or withdrawals include imports, taxes and savings. Injections and leakages/withdrawals are related to each other. This is because government spending comes from tax revenues and investments, at least the local component, come from savings. That said, investments can flow from foreign countries in the form of foreign direct investments (FDI). Lastly, while money can flow from foreign countries when we export overseas, money also leaks out of the country because we import. Important definitions: Gross Domestic Product or GDP is the total value of all final goods and services produced within the borders of a country during a given period. The consumer marketplace is demanding and relentless. Today, products are rewarded for being feature-rich, low cost and for launching before competitors can get the jump. Second, how can we manufacture products faster and more efficiently than we do today? It’s clear that the assembly process of yesteryear wasn’t designed for the era of mass customization and same day delivery. But now, digital manufacturing technologies like 3D printing are capable of high volume production. By custom printing tooling and molding, products can be produced in one fourth of the time it takes with traditional methods. Additive manufacturing also opens up new geometries that enable more efficient and innovative designs. Further down the road, 3D printing will have a major impact on inventory management, product life spans, and manufacturing localization. And last but not least, how can we improve the guesswork in product development? With development cycles shortening and product complexity deepening, the new product introduction period is a high-wire act of risk. But with the advent of the Intelligent Digital Supply Chain, visibility and analytics are bringing products to market on-time and under-budget. Now, businesses can avoid issues with conflict minerals compliance, end-of-life components and single source suppliers at the design stage, avoiding costly delays later down the road. It can also reduce the risk of event-driven disruption and even allow you to anticipate market changes before your competitors. Products that beat the competition to market take advantage of opportunity windows, buying seasons and changes in demand. They avoid lost revenue from missed launch dates and, maybe most importantly, they fetch premium prices. So in a world where the concept of “second place” is beginning to disappear, it’s easy to see why new solutions like 3D printing, rapid digital prototyping and the Intelligent Digital Supply Chain are so attractive. They allow product brands to beat competitors to market by as much as half, at a fraction of the cost.

We hear terms like GDP, NDP, GNP, NNP etc. very frequently in news, magazines and daily discussions. But do we know what they really mean and what are their uses. Here we are trying to make you understand these terms without using technical jargon. These are some of the terms related to National Income which are being asked in competition now and then. GDP (Gross Domestic Product) The value of final goods and services produced inside the boundary of nation during one year. GDP= Value of gross domestic output- value of intermediate consumption Different uses of GDP are : Per annum percentage change in the growth rate of an economy. It is a quantitative aspect and its size gives the estimate about the internal strength of economy. But it DOES NOT say about the qualitative aspect of the produced goods. GDP is used by the IMF or the WORLD BANK to do comparative analysis of its members. 2.NDP (Net Domestic Product) It is the net form of GDP. NDP= GDP – Depreciation Depreciation is a decrease in an asset’s value caused by unfavourable market conditions. Uses of NDP : Government announces the rate of depreciation in the economy. In domestic use, NDP is is used to understand the loss due to depreciation. NDP is not used for the comparative economies since the rate of depreciation is different for different countries. In India NDP is announced by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. 3. GNP (Gross National Product) It is the GDP of a country added with its income from abroad. GNP= GDP + Income from Abroad Or, GNP = GDP – Income from abroad Income from abroad= trade balance + interest on External Loans+ Private Remittance Private remittance= inflows and outflows on account of private transfer e.g. NRI Trade balance = net outcome at the year end of the total import and export. Interest on external loans= balance of the inflow of interest payment (on money lend out of economy) – outflow of interest payment (on the money borrowed by the economy) In case of India, GNP is negative. This is because of heavy outflows on account of Trade Deficit and interest payment on foreign loans. Use of GNP: GNP is the “national income” according to which IMF ranks nations based on PPP or Purchasing Power Parity. [India ranked 4th after USA, Japan and China] It is indicative of the qualitative as well as quantitative aspect of the economy. 4. NNP or Net National Product NNP= GNP – Depreciation Or, NNP= GDP+ income from abroad- depreciation NNP or Net National Product is the purest form of Income. It is the National Income or NI. We can find the per capita income of a country if we know the NNP and total population. e.g. (NNP/ total Population) = per capita income
