Oracle Database 12c Security - Oracle Virtual Private Database (VPD)

12:29
Learn how to use Oracle Virtual Private Database (VPD) to secure your data. See all lessons at http://skillbuilders.com/12c-TSDP-Tutorial First, Virtual Private Database. What is it? Answer: It's a declarative technique for enforcing security. Typically, it's based on user application context. That was the first limitation of 8i. Backed with 8i context were session-specific. The context variables were sort in the PGA. That means you simply couldn't use this in a web environment. However, global context, with use of 9i, Virtual Private Database became usable for web applications with connection pooling. But whether you're using it to client server or on a three tier environment, it's declarative technique rather than a programmatic technique. I can go behind the back of the application as a DBA and generate predicates to get appended to all SQLs. Select, insert, update, delete the end users. Issue the SQL and I will generate a predicate that filters the access. It's impossible to bypass. All users will have predicates appended to all their code. It doesn't matter whether they're using SQL Plus, Discoverer, Business Objects, Crystal Reports, eBusiness Suites, whatever they're using, I as DBA can filter their access to roles. The end result, different users see different data sets while running the same code and accessing the same tables, hence, the name Virtual Private Database. Different users will think they're seeing a totally different set of tables, but in fact it's one column database, one set of tables hosting a single application shared by all the users. The mechanism - you can apply VPD to tables, to views, to synonyms, and a declarative technique. Once the technique you write a function that generates the predicate, you associate the function with the table. From then on whenever the user issue SQL against that table the Cost-Based Optimizer rewrites the code. The Cost-Based Optimizer rewrites the user SQL to call the function to generate the predicate. The predicate is then appended to the SQL and it's the modified SQL that is parsed and executed. Let's see how this actually works. I'm working here by the way. This is just a perfectly normal 12.1 database. But what I'm going to demonstrate at this point will in fact work on 11g as well. I'm not going to be using any of the 12c enhancements to VPD for this little demonstration. I'll work in the scott schema. What do we have to do? We write a function to generate the predicate string. Create function. And I'll my function vpdf. The function must conform to a fixed specification. It must take two varchar arguments. One of the arguments is intended to be the schema to which the function will be applied. The other argument is the object within the schema to which the function will be applied. And it must return a varchar2, which is the generated predicate. Let's begin. Within this function you can do just about anything. There are some limitations. It's impossible for the function to query or update the table against which the VPD calls here is going to be applied or we violate the rules of purity that we come across so often with PL/SQL. But apart from that, it can do just about anything - including a number of dreadful side effects can be introduced by writing VPD functions. I'm going to do a very simple one on this one. I'll shall simple return immediately a predicate. What predicate? Ename, which is the ename column from this scott.emp table. Ename should equal sys_context. I'll go to the local context, my user end context, and just extract session user. We can see that John has tested this earlier today and therefore the object already was suggesting and he's just dropping it now and cleaning up the recreate. I hope you realize these really are live demonstrations. I'm not just running scripts. I've created a function. What's that function going to do? It's going to return this value here. Test it. Always test it and see what it's actually going to do. I'll select vpdf. I have to give it a couple of arguments. This one will do for now.

Introducing Contexts and Dependency Injection

55:34
Contexts and Dependency Injection (CDI) for Java EE is an elegant set of services for Java that draws upon ideas from JBoss Seam and Google Guice. Although many of the features provided (dependency injection, contextual lifecycle, configuration, interception, event notification) are familiar, the innovative use of meta-annotations is uniquely expressive and type safe. This session introduces CDI and, using simple examples, illustrates how it enhances the Java programming model. The view then renders the data. Model can be entities or business objects. In part 7, we have built Employee entity. public class Employee { public int EmployeeId { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Gender { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } } In this video, we will discuss, retrieving data from a database table tblEmployee using entity framework. In a later video, we will discuss using business objects as our model. Step 1: Install entity framework, if you don't have it installed already on your computer. At the time of this recording the latest version is 5.0.0.0. Using nuget package manager, is the easiest way to install. A reference to EntityFramework.dll is automatically added. Open visual studio - Tools - Library Package Manager - Manage NuGet Packages for Solution Step 2: Add EmployeeContext.cs class file to the Models folder. Add the following "using" declaration. using System.Data.Entity; Copy & paste the following code in EmployeeContext.cs public class EmployeeContext : DbContext { // Replace square brackets, with angular brackets public DbSet[Employee] Employees {get; set;} } EmployeeContext class derives from DbContext class, and is responsible for establishing a connection to the database. So the next step, is to include connection string in web.config file. Step 3: Add a connection string, to the web.config file, in the root directory. Step 4: Map "Employee" model class to the database table, tblEmployee using "Table" attribute as shown below. [Table("tblEmployee")] public class Employee { public int EmployeeId { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Gender { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } } Note: "Table" attribute is present in "System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.Schema" namespace. Step 5: Make the changes to "Details()" action method in "EmployeeController" as shown below. public ActionResult Details(int id) { EmployeeContext employeeContext = new EmployeeContext(); Employee employee = employeeContext.Employees.Single(x =] x.EmployeeId == id); return View(employee); } Step 6: Finally, copy and paste the following code in Application_Start() function, in Global.asax file. Database class is present "in System.Data.Entity" namespace. Existing databases do not need, database initializer so it can be turned off. Database.SetInitializer[MVCDemo.Models.EmployeeContext](null); That's it, run the application and notice that the relevant employee details are displayed as expected.

Please watch Part 11, before proceeding with this video. We want to present the end user with a form to enter data. Copy and paste the following "Create" action method, in EmployeeController class. [HttpGet] public ActionResult Create() { return View(); } Please note that, the method is decorated with "HttpGet" attribute. This makes this action method to respond only to the "GET" request. Now let's add a "Create" view. To do this, right click on the "Create" action method and select "Add View" from the context menu. Set 1. View name = "Create" 2. View engine = "Razor" 3. Select "Create Strongly-typed view checkbox 4. Select "Employee" class, from "Model class" dropdownlist 5. Scaffold Template = Create 6. Click "Add" button At this point "Create.cshtml" view will be added in "Employee" folder. If you have the following "Scripts" section at the bottom of the view, please delete it. We will discuss about sections and scripts in a later video session. @section Scripts { @Scripts.Render("~/bundles/jqueryval") } Run the application and navigate to the following URL "http://localhost/MVCDemo/Employee/Index" Click on "Create New" link. You will be naviaged to the following URL "http://localhost/MVCDemo/Employee/Create" A form with textboxes to add a new employee is rendered. For employee "Gender" it is ideal to have a dropdownlist instead of a text box. Run the application and notice that, a dropdownlist is now displayed for "Gender". If you click on "Create" button, you will get an error message stating - The resource cannot be found. This is because we donot have the "Create" controller action method that can handle HTTPPost request. We will discuss fixing this in our next video.

Indicium: Interactive Querying at Scale Using Apache Spark, Zeppelin - Kapil Malik and Arvind Heda

34:42
"A solution for interactive querying of large scale structured data, stored in a distributed file system (HDFS / S3), in a scalable and reliable manner using a unique combination of Spark SQL, Apache Zeppelin and Spark Job-server (SJS) on Yarn. The solution is production tested and can cater to thousands of queries processing terabytes of data every day. It contains following components – 1. Zeppelin server : A custom interpreter is deployed, which de-couples spark context from the user notebooks. It connects to the remote spark context on Spark Job-server. A rich set of APIs are exposed for the users. The user input is parsed, validated and executed remotely on SJS. 2. Spark job-server : A custom application is deployed, which implements the set of APIs exposed on Zeppelin custom interpreter, as one or more spark jobs. 3. Context router : It routes different user queries from custom interpreter to one of many Spark Job-servers / contexts. The solution has following characteristics – * Multi-tenancy There are hundreds of users, each having one or more Zeppelin notebooks. All these notebooks connect to same set of Spark contexts for running a job. * Fault tolerance The notebooks do not use Spark interpreter, but a custom interpreter, connecting to a remote context. If one spark context fails, the context router sends user queries to another context. * Load balancing Context router identifies which contexts are under heavy load / responding slowly, and selects the most optimal context for serving a user query. * Efficiency We use Alluxio for caching common datasets. * Elastic resource usage We use spark dynamic allocation for the contexts. This ensures that cluster resources are blocked by this application only when it’s doing some actual work. Session hashtag: #EUeco9"

55:31
http://www.techgig.com/expert-speak/Cloud-Computing-Series-Session-12-Demystifying-REST-Architecture-Design-in-SOA-Context-313 The session covers REST Design Principles; Constraints & REST inspired Service Oriented Architecture Design Patterns. It will particularly focus on REST Data Access Patterns and REST API design. Many EMC products have adopted these patterns while building REST API to their product. In this presentation, Mallari will review the importance of APIs, particularly in a cloud computing environment, and what problems are addressed by having a well-designed API on a product. Mallari will motivate why REST is a preferred approach to API design in a SOA context. Mallari will walk through a set of example use cases to illustrate various features of the Best Data Access Practices including how resource type metadata is supported in the API, how pagination is handled, how API clients can sort, filter and otherwise shape the way the response is returned from a REST API call etc. People attending this presentation will learn about the importance of REST API design in SOA and cloud environments, learn some best practices related to good REST API design and learn about using REST APIs to access data.
