Effective Design of RESTful APIs

53:37
Mohamed Taman, Sr. Enterprise Architect / Sr. Software Engineer, WebCentric Developers creating websites, especially back-end developers, need to know how to build RESTful APIs correctly. Nowadays those APIs are serving many channels: mobile, microservices components, IoT, integration, or all of these. This session will help you plan and model your own APIs and understand security and the six REST design constraints that help guide your architecture. It starts with a simple overview, including advice on identifying the participants in your system and the activities they might perform with it. The presenter will help you paper-test your model, validating the design before you build it and providing a live example to make sure the concept is clear. Finally the session explores the HTTP concepts and REST constraints needed to build your API.

REST API Programming ; Create one in under 8 minutes with APEX's REST API Creator

07:52
I'm taking a bit of a diversion and thought I would post a video of APEX's RESTful Web Services in action. APEX is web framework for creating modern web applications via the web. It is a free tool. APEX can be self-hosted. The full video with comments can be seen on the Codersaurus website: http://codersaurus.com/apex-restful-api-in-under-eight-mins.html For those not familiar with the terms: In computer programming, an application programming interface (API) specifies a software component in terms of its operations, their inputs and outputs and underlining types. Its main purpose is to define a set of functionalities that are independent of their respective implementation, allowing both definition and implementation to vary without compromising each other. For more information see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_programming_interface Rest (Representational state transfer) s an abstraction of the architecture of the World Wide Web; more precisely, REST is an architectural style consisting of a coordinated set of architectural constraints applied to components, connectors, and data elements, within a distributed hypermedia system. REST ignores the details of component implementation and protocol syntax in order to focus on the roles of components, the constraints upon their interaction with other components, and their interpretation of significant data elements.

Creating OAuth2 Protected RESTful Web Services with ORDS and APEX

46:28
UKOUG APEX SIG 10th presentation by Colin Archer This demonstration will give an overview of how to create RESTful web services using the ORDS PL/SQL API package, how to protect them using OAuth2.0, and how to use them within an APEX application. In the first part of the demonstration, I will walk you through the steps involved in creating and testing some simple ‘GET’ and ‘POST’ method web services. I will then demonstrate how to protect the web services using roles and privileges, and how grant access using OAuth2.0 and client credentials. In the second part of the demonstration, I will show you how to use the web services inside an APEX application, including the use of client credentials to access ones that have been protected with OAuth2.0

Making RESTful Web Services the Easy Way with Node.js

59:01
Dan McGhan, Developer Advocate, Oracle. Drivers make it easy to connect to and run statements against a database. That means they're perfect for creating RESTful APIs, right? Well, you'll want to add some pagination capabilities, maybe sorting controls, and some generic filtering options too. You could do all that with the driver and some smart code, but there must be an easier way, right? Of course there is! In this session you'll learn about some of the challenges associated with manual API creation using drivers. The discussion then turns to several tools that offer similar functionality out of the box, including Loopback, Sails, and Oracle REST Data Services. ================================= To improve the video quality, click the gear icon and set the Quality to 1080p/720p HD. REST Enabling the Oracle Database

01:04:42
Presenter: Colm Divilly, Oracle Corporation This session will demonstrate how quickly one can install and configure Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS) to provide/serve REST endpoints on both RESTful Services and Database Objects themselves. A brief overview of REST concepts will be followed by a demo of ORDS being installed in less than 5 minutes. Then a series of demos showing how easy it is to REST enable a table and use GET/POST/DELETE to provide a full CRUD API to your data, including complex scenarios involving complex data types like SDO_GEOMETRY and rich web applications that can take advantage of JSON. REST is the new development paradigm and the Oracle Database is 100% ready with the addition of ORDS.
