Oracle RAC Components | Basic cluster components

12:51
https://dbagenesis.com/p/oracle-11gr2-rac-for-beginners A computer cluster consists of a set of loosely or tightly connected computers that work together so that, in many respects, they can be viewed as a single system. Unlike grid computers, computer clusters have each node set to perform the same task, controlled and scheduled by software. The components of a cluster are usually connected to each other through fast local area networks, with each node (computer used as a server) running its own instance of an operating system. In most circumstances, all of the nodes use the same hardware and the same operating system, although in some setups (i.e. using Open Source Cluster Application Resources (OSCAR)), different operating systems can be used on each computer, and/or different hardware.

Background Processes In an Oracle RAC environment

03:57
To maximize performance and accommodate many users, a multiprocess Oracle Database system uses background processes. Background processes consolidate functions that would otherwise be handled by multiple database programs running for each user process.

Cache Fusion Mechanism in Oracle RAC

41:27
Cache Fusion is simply fusing or adding of cache memory so that the availability of the data will be increased and time to fetch a particular block will be decreased because the cache is shared from one instance to the other.

How Oracle RAC Cache Fusion Works Part 1 of 6

06:02
Learn the mysteries of how Oracle RAC Cache Fusion works. In this lesson you will see the tutorial agenda plus a brief history of Oracle clustering (parallel server) and the problems associated with disk pinging. Cache Fusion is the secret to making Oracle Real Application Clusters (clustering) a scalable database platform. You will learn how cache fusion works, the differences between global cache current and consistent read transfers, the differences between two-way and three-way transfers and the associated wait events. Oracle Ace and author Brian Peasland provides a demonstration of global cache transfers in action by utilizing Oracle Trace. Prerequisites: Knowledge of Oracle Architecture including the concept of an Oracle instance, the buffer cache, how data is moved into the buffer cache and an understanding of wait events. Brian is a certified Oracle ACE who has been in the IT field for over 25 years and has worked as a computer operator, operations analyst, systems administrator, application developer and for more than half of his career as a database administrator. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.S. in Computer Science, specializing in database systems. Brian has been a member of SearchOracle.com’s Ask The Experts since 2001 and now contributes articles to the site. He regularly contributes to the My Oracle Support and Oracle Technet communities. He can be followed on Twitter on @BPeaslandDBA and maintains a blog at http://www.peasland.net. Brian is the author of “Oracle RAC Performance Tuning” on Rampant TechPress.

Oracle RAC and Docker: The Why and How

39:01
Containers have taken the IT world by storm, and for good reason. The reduction in setup time, administration time, and resource consumption that containers provide makes a very strong case for using container technologies throughout the data center. Docker can be used to containerize many applications, including the Oracle Database. The speaker will present what led to his company's initiative to run Oracle RAC Databases in Docker Containers and why it was chosen over other virtualization technologies. The presentation will provide a deep dive into building the database instance containers while detailing the difficulties of running a privileged clustering solution in containers. The presentation will also show how to use containers for the services supporting the cluster such as DNS, DHCP and networking to create a end to end solution. Speaker: Seth Miller

How does an Oracle database start? - Database Tutorial 38

12:39
Video 38 How does an Oracle database start? - Database Tutorial 38 How does an Oracle database start? - Database Tutorial 38 The startup of sequence of an Oracle Database. 1) Startup process looks for a parameter file in the default location. 2) If a parameter file is found, it then parses it and gets the information about the control files. 3) With that information, it reads the control files. 4) Upto this point, we can say that the Oracle Instance has been started in nomount mode. 5) The same can be achieved by issuing the following command in sqlplus. a) startup nomount; 6) Then, from the control files, the Instance gets to know about the details of the database and its related files. 7) It then 'mounts' the database. 8) At this point, the database has been started. But it can be only accessed by the DBAs. 9) This is called 'mount' mode. 10) The same can be achieved by issuing the following command in sqlplus. a) startup mount; 11) Then, once the database has mounted, it gets opened for other users. 12) This is called 'OPEN' mode. 13) This is the final mode of a startup process after which the database is available for use. 14) The same can be achieved by issuing the following command in sqlplus. a) startup 15) That concludes the startup.

Extended distance Oracle RAC: zero downtime, high speed, commodity hardware only

51:11
Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) offer unique capabilities for high-availability and local disaster recovery of mission-critical databases. Zero downtime can be achieved in cases of localized disasters by using two or three sites located up to 100km apart. Unlike replication techniques, in extended distance clusters the data is mirrored synchronously across the sites. At any given time all locations have exact full copy of the data. In this webinar you will learn how to build high-speed extended distance Oracle RAC clusters using commodity servers, commodity NVMe SSDs, and FlashGrid software. Speaker: Artem Danielov, FlashGrid Inc.

Introduction to Oracle Listener

16:41
https://dbagenesis.com/p/oracle-11g-advanced-dba DBA Genesis provides all you need to build and manage effective Oracle technology learning. We designed DBA Genesis as a simple to use yet powerful online Oracle learning system for students. Each of our courses is taught by an expert instructor, and every course is available on demand. A listener is a separate process than your database processes which runs on the database server to accept incoming connections. Any client connection first lands on to database listener and then its handed over to the PMON process. All the databases running on a server must have their services registered with the listener or else listener will not be able to accept the incoming connections.
