Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) Tutorial - Part 1

06:58
Learn how to create an Entity Relationship Diagram in this tutorial. We provide a basic overview of ERDs and then gives step-by-step training on how to make an ER diagram with correct cardinality. Entity Relationship Diagrams are comprised of 3 main categories: entities, attributes, and relationships. Entities are objects or concepts that are associated with important data—like a customer, order, or product. Attributes represent properties or traits of an entity, such as a customer’s phone number or home address. Relationships demonstrate the link between entities. Another main aspect of of ERD's is cardinality, which further defines the relationship between entities in a numerical way. Certain symbols signify the minimum and maximum relationship between different entities. AWS re:Invent 2017: Amazon.com - Replacing 100s of Oracle DBs with Just One: DynamoDB (ARC406)

56:40
When customers across the globe place orders on Amazon.com, those orders are processed through many different backend systems, including Herd, a workflow-orchestration engine developed by the Amazon eCommerce Foundation team. A mission-critical system used by more than 300 Amazon engineering teams, Herd executes over four billion workflows every day. Beginning in 2013, Herd’s workflow traffic was doubling year-over-year, and scaling its then dozens of horizontally-partitioned Oracle databases was becoming a nightmare, and this number kept increasing. To support Herd’s increasing scaling needs, and to provide a better customer experience, the Herd team had to re-architect its storage system and move its primary data storage from Oracle to Amazon DynamoDB. In this session, we discuss how we moved from Oracle to Amazon DynamoDB, walk through the biggest challenges we faced and how we overcame them, and share the lessons we learned along the way.

How to install and run an Oracle Database instance in a Docker container? Yes, I Know IT! Ep 18

04:45
UPDATE: The "GUI" part of the video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jp58Osb1uFo&feature=youtu.be Despite great opensource alternatives, Oracle Database skills remain in high-demand on the job market. But for many students--and even for experimented database developers--installing Oracle from scratch is a tedious task. And running an Oracle Database instance from a pre-installed virtual machine might require too many resources on your computer. Fortunately, Docker is here. The Oracle license allows you to install and run an Oracle instance for education or testing purposes. And you can find on the official Oracle website, both the installation media and some pre-installed virtual machines images freely available. Both those solutions have drawbacks, especially when you are new to Oracle and don't have access to an overpowerful computer. More recently, Oracle joined the Docker bandwagon by providing Docker image allowing to run an Oracle database instance in a container. I was quite seduced by that move, but unfortunately, the Oracle image was deceptively challenging to use. Hopefully, there are great people in the Docker community. Specifically, Maksym Bilenko provides Docker images for several Oracle Database versions. Thanks to his work, you can now have an Oracle instance up and running just by typing three commands on your terminal. And this is what I explain in this video: As always, I hope you find that useful. And don't forget to up-vote/subscribe/comment if you liked it! https://yesik.it/EP18 --------------------------------------------------------- Music : "Howling" by Gunnar Olsen

Oracle Database Memory Serialization Control (latches & mutexes)

14:14
Oracle Database Memory Serialization Control (latches & mutexes) teaches Oracle DBAs the ends and outs about Oracle memory structure control. Oracle effectively creates the illusion of simultaneous memory structure manipulation. And it's our job to ensure this illusion remains a mystery to our users. To help you keep this illusion real, in this seminar I will lead you into the mysterious world of Oracle memory structure serialization control by exploring latches and mutexes: what they are, how they work, how we monitor their performance, how we tell if there is a significant problem and how we systematically diagnose the situation. I think you will soon understand why I think Oracle serialization control rocks! For details go to http://www.orapub.com/video-seminar-serialization-control PART ONE of this seminar focuses on why latches and mutexes are so important to Oracle's operations and how Oracle uses latches and mutexes in its kernel code. I also dig into how Oracle's time model relates to latching. This enables you to properly diagnosis and communicate to others why or why not latches/mutexes are a significant performance issue. Finally, I get into how Oracle increases concurrency by effectively using multiple latches of the same type to increase memory structure concurrency. It's fascinating and very important for DBAs who want to pursue a career focused on Oracle performance tuning. PART TWO begins by focusing on advanced latch spin control and detailing three ways to identify the problem latch. Then I'll begin digging deep into mutexes, including why they are important, why Oracle began using them and the acquisition algorithm. I'll even get into advanced mutex control using Oracle instance parameters. We will observe Oracle using mutexes by operating system tracing Oracle processes. It's pretty cool and key for any DBA who wants to become a performance expert. What You Will Learn In Part 1 & 2 - Why Oracle processes must ensure serial access control to Oracle memory structures - What are Oracle latches and mutexes - How Oracle latches are different from mutexes - The latch and mutex acquisition algorithms - How L&M activity relates to Oracle's time model - How to monitor for real L&M problems using Oracle's time model and an AWR report - Steps to methodically approach diagnosing and coming up with performance solutions - The differences between latches and mutexes - How Oracle implement mutexes in its library cache - How to use advanced latch spin control - What options DBAs have to influence mutex behavior L&M = Latches And Mutexes Modules Part 1: 060 Oracle Serialization Control - Part 1 1. Why the simultaneous memory structure illusion must exist and why it works so well 2 Oracle processes, L&M and memory structures, the general L&M acquisition algorithm 3 L&M time accounting and how this relates to the Oracle time model and the AWR report 4. Oracle latch specifics: concurrency limitations, child latches, multiple latches and how latches "back off." Part 2: 062 Oracle Serializatoin Control - Part 2 1. Using latch specific spin count control to your advantage and three ways to identify the problem latch 2. Why mutexes are advantageous to increase concurrency 3. Detailing the Oracle mutex algorithm 4. Advanced mutex control and observering Oracle mutex usage in detail For more information to go www.orapub.com

PART 5.3 Indexing in dbms in hindi basics of indexing in dbms primary secondary clustered

20:31
Thank you friends for watching the video. Please Like the video if it has helped you in any way & do subscribe to the channel. This video discuss the concept of Indexing in database in hindi. Important topic of database Indexing like need of indexing in database management indexing, Why we do indexing in files in database, How we do indexing in dbms, Types of indexing, Methods of Indexing, Advantages of Indexing,How to access a file fast in database, Single level Indexing in database file, Multilevel indexing in database file structure in dbms,Dense indexing in database, Sparse Indexing in database,Index file in dbms, Advantages of using Index file in database are discussed. What is Indexing: Additional auxiliary access structure are called indexes, a data technique to efficiently retrieve records from the database files based on some attributes on which the indexing has been done. Dense Index: 1) In dense index, there is an entry in the index file for every search key value in the main file. This makes searching faster but requires more space to store index records itself. 2) Note that it is not for every record, it is for every search key value. Some time number of records in the main file is greater than equal to number of search keys in the main file, for example if search key is repeated. Sparse Index: 1) If an index entry is created only for some records of the main file, then it is called sparse index. 2) No. of index entries in the index file → No. of records in the main file. This evaluation should reveal the following information:-How many disk drives are available to the Oracle products-How many, if any, dedicated tape drives are available to Oracle products-How much memory is available to the instances of Oracle Database you will run (see your system configuration documentation) Task 2: Install the Oracle Database Software: As the database administrator, you install the Oracle Database server software and any front-end tools and database applications that access the database. In some distributed processing installations, the database is controlled by a central computer (database server) and the database tools and applications are executed on remote computers (clients). In this case, you must also install the Oracle Net components necessary to connect the remote systems to the computer that executes Oracle Database. Task 3: Plan the Database: As the database administrator, you must plan: -The logical storage structure of the database -The overall database design -A backup strategy for the databaseConsider how the logical storage structure of the database will affect: -The performance of the computer running Oracle Database -The performance of the database during data access operations -The efficiency of backup and recovery procedures for the database Task 4: Creating, migrating, and opening the database: After you complete the database design, you can create the database and open it for normal use. You can create a database at installation time, using the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA), or you can supply your own scripts for creating a database. Task 5: Backup the Database : After you create the database structure, perform the backup strategy you planned for the database. Create any additional redo log files, take the first full database backup (online or offline), and schedule future database backups at regular intervals. Backup Strategy May Include: - Entire database (whole) - Portion of the database (partial) Whole database backup: Includes all data files and at least one control file (Remember that all control files in a database are identical.) Partial database backup: May include zero or more tablespaces and zero or more data files; may or may not include a control file. Backup Types (RMAN) - All data blocks within your chosen files (full) - Incremental - Cumulative - Differential Backup Mode May Be: - Offline (consistent, cold) - Online (inconsistent, hot) Offline backups (also known as “cold” or consistent backup): Are taken while the database is not open. They are consistent because, at the time of the backup, the system change number (SCN) in data file headers matches the SCN in the control files. Online backups (also known as “hot” or inconsistent backup): Are taken while the database is open. They are inconsistent because, with the database open, there is no guarantee that the data files are synchronized with the control files. Task 6: Enroll System Users Task 7: Implement the Database Design Task 8: Recovering from database failure Task 9: Monitoring Database Performance Task 10: Download and Install Patches Task 11: Roll Out to Additional Hosts To Get more Tutorial Subscribe The Channel click here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ3ea4zVCfnKBx1_7h8raGQ?sub_confirmation=1 To Get All Post Like The Facebook Page Click here https://www.facebook.com/oracledbsolutions Follow us: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oracledbsolutions Youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ3ea4zVCfnKBx1_7h8raGQ?view_as=subscriber Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/465557066961548 Contact us: email: [email protected] Skype: oracle26solutions Mob: 01734557080, 01627422780

Read the Blog: https://www.calebcurry.com/blogs/database-clustering/intro-to-database-clustering Get ClusterControl: http://bit.ly/ClusterControl In this video we are going to be discussing database clustering and how to manage database clusters with ClusterControl. Database clustering is when you have multiple computers working together that are all used to store your data. There are four primary reasons you should consider clustering. Data redundancy, Load balancing (scalability) High availability. Monitoring and Automation That is an intro to a few of the reasons having a cluster is a good idea. Obviously, not everyone needs a cluster. A cluster can be overkill. The view then renders the data. Model can be entities or business objects. In part 7, we have built Employee entity. public class Employee { public int EmployeeId { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Gender { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } } In this video, we will discuss, retrieving data from a database table tblEmployee using entity framework. In a later video, we will discuss using business objects as our model. Step 1: Install entity framework, if you don't have it installed already on your computer. At the time of this recording the latest version is 5.0.0.0. Using nuget package manager, is the easiest way to install. A reference to EntityFramework.dll is automatically added. Open visual studio - Tools - Library Package Manager - Manage NuGet Packages for Solution Step 2: Add EmployeeContext.cs class file to the Models folder. Add the following "using" declaration. using System.Data.Entity; Copy & paste the following code in EmployeeContext.cs public class EmployeeContext : DbContext { // Replace square brackets, with angular brackets public DbSet[Employee] Employees {get; set;} } EmployeeContext class derives from DbContext class, and is responsible for establishing a connection to the database. So the next step, is to include connection string in web.config file. Step 3: Add a connection string, to the web.config file, in the root directory. Step 4: Map "Employee" model class to the database table, tblEmployee using "Table" attribute as shown below. [Table("tblEmployee")] public class Employee { public int EmployeeId { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Gender { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } } Note: "Table" attribute is present in "System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.Schema" namespace. Step 5: Make the changes to "Details()" action method in "EmployeeController" as shown below. public ActionResult Details(int id) { EmployeeContext employeeContext = new EmployeeContext(); Employee employee = employeeContext.Employees.Single(x =] x.EmployeeId == id); return View(employee); } Step 6: Finally, copy and paste the following code in Application_Start() function, in Global.asax file. Database class is present "in System.Data.Entity" namespace. Existing databases do not need, database initializer so it can be turned off. Database.SetInitializer[MVCDemo.Models.EmployeeContext](null); That's it, run the application and notice that the relevant employee details are displayed as expected.

DjangoCon 2018 - Representing Hierarchies in Relational Databases

27:18
https://media.ccc.de/v/hd-29-representing-hierarchies-in-relational-databases In this talk, I’ll explain the fundamental problem representing deep hierarchies in relational databases. To address this problem, we can use a database design pattern, named Materialized Path Trees. Many data structures require a representation, where one parent node can have any arbitrary number of children. Inside relational databases, this typically is represented by a foreign key onto its own table. In Django’s ORM, we use ``models.ForeignKey('self', ...)``, to create this kind of recursive relationship. The major problem with this kind of representation is, that it doesn’t scale for deep trees. Whenever we have to traverse the tree from a given starting node, our code has to perform one database query per hierarchy level. To circumvent this, some database vendors implemented SQL dialects, to fetch a whole subtree with one query. Long time ago, Oracle for instance implemented 'CONNECT BY', which is proprietary and not part of the SQL standard. Nowadays, newer releases of most major database vendors implemented the 'WITH RECURSIVE' clause, which has been added to the SQL-99 standard. This allows us to build recursive queries. Fortunately there is a clever recipe to represent hierarchies in relational databases using standard SQL techniques, but without the mentioned scaling problem: Materialized Path Trees, discovered by Vadim Tropashko. Django’s ecosystem offers two libraries, which implement this design pattern: **django-mptt** and **django-treebeard**. I also would like to mention **django-tree**, which only works on Postgres, using their SQL extension mentioned before. In this talk I’ll explain the design patterns for Materialized Path Trees. Furthermore I’ll show the pros and cons of both libraries. Jacob Rief

Oracle SQL Tutorial 16 - Parent Child Relationships

06:09
So far in this series we have discussed database design, creating tables, and constraints. We've brought up the concept of foreign keys, but we have not explained how to create them. That is the goal of this video and the upcoming videos. We want to study those foreign keys! Let's make them not so foreign. Let's learn the proper way to define a foreign key. As a reminder, a foreign key is a column that references a column of another table. The column it references must either be a primary key, or have the UNIQUE constraint. This means that every value inside of the column that is labeled as a foreign key, there must be that value in some row of the referenced column. As an example, imagine that we have the users table, and we have a table service_requests. We could have a column in the service_request that references a column in the users table. Usually this would be the primary key that is referenced, but there is nothing stopping you from referencing a unique column. Just for fun, let's go through an example using the username column. If we have a service_requests table, every single row within the table is going to be what some would consider an instance of a service_request. This means that the table columns are like the blueprint for what a service request looks like and then each row is an individual service request. If we have one of the columns labeled as a foreign key to the username of the users table, what does that mean practically? It means that for a single row, the value for that column must be a value that exists in the users table. We could have a service_request submitted by a user with the username of Yoloswagman. This means that there must be a row inside of the users table that has the value Yoloswagman for the username column. This brings up the concept of parent and child relationships. Yoloswagman in this situation is the parent, and his service request is the child. When we draw it out, it makes sense why a primary key must be UNIQUE. If we had two Yoloswagmans, the child would not know which column is the parent. The same applies if we were using IDs and we had So remember, always reference a primary key or a column with the UNIQUE constraint. Now, I have a question for you. Do foreign keys automatically have the UNIQUE constraint, just like primary keys? The answer is no. A parent row can have many child rows. It makes sense because the user could submit multiple service requests. Can we force the column to be unique? Absolutely. If that was the case, the user could only make one service request. Another question. Do foreign keys automatically have the NOT NULL constraint, just like primary keys? The answer is no. Essentially what this means is that a child could be created with no parent. Can we force the column to be NOT NULL? Absolutely. It is ok in some situations to allow the row to be null, but in this situation it makes no sense. It would be wise for us to add that constraint ourselves. So now that you understand some more differences between primary and foreign keys and parent child relationships, take all of these questions into consideration when you are creating foreign keys. In the next video, we are going to start a small project that is going to require multiple tables. We'll take a video to design our structure and then we'll get to creating those foreign keys in Oracle SQL Developer. Stick around and if you like these videos please be a serious supporter and subscribe to my channel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HELP ME! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)
