How to Set Environment Variables in Windows

01:27
Follow this step by step tutorial to learn how to set environment variables from system settings in the windows operating system. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ In this tutorial, you will learn how to set environment variables in windows. Operating systems require environment variables as settings and configurations for several processes. Although these variables are automatically defined or initialized during the installation of the system or specific software, in windows, to set environment variables manually is not a difficult task. That's because windows allows us to manually add, remove or edit environment variables through system settings according to our requirements. Step # 1 -- Opening environment variables In windows, to set environmental variables, you can take two paths. Either we can go to control panel, then access the system security option, and then the system option. Or we can simply right click on My Computer and select its properties. Once we are in the system window, select the advanced system settings from the list on the left side. A new window will pop up. Over here, click on the environment variables button near the bottom of this window and you can now access the Windows environment variables. Step # 2 -- Adding a variable In this window there are two sets of environment variables, one is the "user variables", and the other is the "system variables". Choose the new button in the user variables section to open the "define a new variable" dialog window. Over here, you will be required to define the variable name as anything you wish to set, such as temporary and then define its value as the path to the directory. With that done, let's complete this process by pressing OK. Your new environment variable has been created now. Step # 3 -- Editing and removing a variable To edit an environment variable, click on it, and then click on the edit button to open a dialog window. Here we can edit the name and value of the variable. Likewise to remove an environment variable, simply click on the variable and then click on the delete button. Once all the definitions are complete, close the window and restart your computer to allow the operating system to load these settings on boot. And that's basically all you need to know for how to set environment variables in windows.

How to Set Environment Variables in Linux

00:56
Follow this tutorial to learn how to set shell environment variables in a Linux operating system like Ubuntu. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ In this tutorial, you will learn how to set environment variables in linux. Linux based operating systems use bash shell. The shell environment variables are used for several purposes, from storing data, storing software configurations, set terminal settings, and changing shell environment. The environment variables are normally created by the operating system during installation, or by different software as per the required need. Apart from that, in linux, to set environment variables, we first need to access the terminal application. That's because the user has the privilege to add, edit, and remove different variables at will. Step # 1 -- All variables on terminal In linux, to set environment variables we first need to access shell environment variables. For that, we will need to open the terminal by searching for it in the applications menu, or selecting it from the dock on the left. Once the terminal is opened up, to check for all environment variables, type the set command and press enter. This will list all the environment variables stored in the shell. Step # 2 -- One variable at a time The amount of these variables can become a very long list and locating one specific variable can become a tough task. Fortunately Linux allows us to display the value of one shell variable by using the echo command along with the name of the variable. This makes the task very easy. Step # 3 -- Changing a variable Now, to add or modify an environment variable, we can use the export command followed by the name of the variable and the values that go with it. Multiple values for a variable need to be separated by a colon. The colon indicates to the operating system that one value has ended and another has begun. The variables can be created and removed from the shell easily, and can be done whenever required. But changing important variables may mess with the operating system's functionalities so it's important to be careful. And that's basically all you need to know for how to set environment variables in Linux.

Spring Boot Properties File and Profiles Tutorial | Externalised Environment Configuration

10:08
Hi, Use Spring Boot to externalise your environment specific runtime configuration. Environment specific configuration is usually stored in properties files, YAML files and command line arguments. In this tutorial i will show you how to specifically configure your application for the environment it is deployed into. Having externalised configuration will allow you to propagate your single generated software artefact through your different environments (E.g. Dev, Test, Production). I first created an application.properties and placed it on the application's CLASSPATH. This is one of four locations Spring Boot will look for the default properties file. Properties configured here will be common for all environments unless explicitly overridden. See Spring Boot Features, 24. Externalized Configuration for properties order. I then created an application-{environment}.properties file for each environment. The {environment} is substituted for the spring profile. This can be set using -Dspring.profiles.active virutal machine argument. This is passed into the application on bootup, so from your deployment YAML file / bash shell script etc. E.g. Set your spring profile per environment: -Dspring.profiles.active=local -Dspring.profiles.active=dev -Dspring.profiles.active=test -Dspring.profiles.active=production This will then loads the common application.properites THEN the environment specific properties file. One of: application-local.properties application-dev.properties application-test.properties application-production.properties Spring will then substitute the properties throughout its configuration of the spring container. Enjoy! 2. Oracle database Installation With ASM: Prepare Environment For database & ASM installation.

06:48
Automatic Storage Management (ASM) is a feature that has be introduced in Oracle 10g to simplify the storage of Oracle datafiles, controlfiles, logfiles and backups. ASM will be used as the file system and volume manager for Oracle Database files (data, online redo logs, control files, archived redo logs), and the Fast Recovery Area. NOTE: ASMLib in the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel. ASMLib – Linux specific ASM library and its associated driver. The Oracle ASMLib kernel driver is now included in the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel. No driver package needs to be installed when using this kernel. The oracleasm-support and oracleasmlib packages still need to be installed. The oracleasm-support can be installed from Oracle Linux ISO image. For other Linux flavors could be found here – (Download section for particular Linux distribution) The oracleasmlib can be downloaded from ULN (Unbreakable Linux Network), subscription is required. Non-subscribers are free to use the similar package built for RHEL on their Enterprise Linux machines, which we will use in this tutorial. Action plan: 1. Installing Oracle Enterprise Linux and creating virtual hard disks in VMware for ASM disks 2. Creating recommended OS groups and user for Grid Infrastructure 3. Creating login scripts for grid and oracle users 4. Installing Oracle ASM packages 5. Creating ASM disk volumes 6. Downloading and installing Oracle Grid Infrastructure software 7. Creating ASM disk groups 8. Installing Oracle database software and create database instance

Java Set-up: Add Java to Path Environment Variable & Java Command Line

03:07
Java programs have to be compiled before they can be run. If you’re using an IDE like Eclipse or Netbeans you might not need to do this. But if you’re having trouble compiling java from the command line, here’s how to fix it. -Open Control Panel, then System -"Advanced System Settings" -"Environment variables" -Add a new "System Variable" -Name it (e.g. "0java"). The "Value" is to the installation location of the Java Development Kit -Something like C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_71 ---That’s for Java 8, update 71 (for some reason Java likes to add a 1. before the actual version number. So Java 1.8 is really Java version 8 and 1.7 would be version 7) -Now edit the "path" system variable. -Click new, then type %VARIABLE_NAME%\bin ---My example would be %0java%\bin -Close and reopen command prompt and now the javac command should work TO COMPILE & RUN: -Find your .java source file in command prompt -type "javac" then the name of the file: "javac MyProgram.java" -Then "java" then the class name with no extension: "java MyProgram" More Details on Java_Home http://www.mkyong.com/java/how-to-set-java_home-on-windows-10/ Running Java from command line http://introcs.cs.princeton.edu/java/15inout/windows-cmd.html Download jdk http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

BluePrism - Environment & Session Variables || Reality & Useful

35:23
Hi Friends, Let's come into the development/implementation part. Environment variables We have two types of environment variables, mean we can declare process level and business level in System Manager. See here, You saw this, I created one environment variable in Business level but I can see under process also. Then why the tool differentiated under process and business object? It's a categorizing the variables that's it. we will access the created environment variable in process Here is my process, let's access the varible into internal data item. I Created the local data item. to access the environment variable configure the local data item. We have the Expose option in data item, open it and see 'Environment - Read the corresponding Environment variable from System Manager' But I didn't find my 'hello' variable. Let's close and reopen it. See I got it and select the env variable name from the list. But how can I see value for that environment variable. Let's do it. 1. I created another local variable and using calculation stage copying the value from configured data item to local variable. Can we edit the environment variable value? Try that once. See, before executing the bot while reset, I am getting error message open and see that what is the message 'Cannot store data in an environment variable' even If you run it won't work. See that I got the internal exception. Environment variables are final variables, once you declare the varible only you can change the value in System Manager and cannot be possible through process/Business Object. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's create/open another process or business object and see can we able to access the same environment variable or not? See I got the environment variable and it's value in newly created process. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now we will see about Session Varible. let's revert the code of existing process as I will concatenate the environment variable value to local variable and storing the result into local variable. Let's run and check it. I got the concatenated value. If we run through control room can we see these value? Let's publish our process and run it from control room. process started and finished. Where we can see the session variables. There is a link to see session variables 'Show Session Variables' I enabled, let's run and check it Started and finished, but we cannot see the data item value. Because we didn't configured the data item to show in session variables list. For this, we need to expose the local data item to show in session variables list. Open the process and open the data item and choose the option called 'Session - Expose the data item to Control Room' Now run and check it once We did the right way to show the data item in session variables list but why can't we see the variable value? To that the process/business object show wait for some to before complete it. Because our process is very small. let's use the wait stage before end Ohh! We don't have wait stage in process, how use the sleep Action in General Business Object. drag the Action stage and choose the values. I choosen the 'Utility - General' and Sleep and passed the how many seconds should wait our process let's run and see it See that while the process is in running mode we can see the configured session variable. After finished the process it's gone. Thank you for watching video
