What Does "Organic" and "Natural" Mean in the U.S.?

03:33
If you live in the US you've probably seen different sections in the grocery store for organic and conventional foods. So what is the difference? What most people understand organic to mean is food produced without the use of any synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. The opposite of that is conventionally produced food, which uses all kinds of substances to artificially boost production. But really, the definition of organic goes way beyond pesticides and fertilizers. When you see an organic food label in the US, it means that the food is not irradiated, genetically modified, does not have artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. If the product is from animals, an organic label means the product does not have any hormones, antibiotics and the animal was not raised in a cage. There are also requirements for how organic produce is grown such as how the soil is treated, how pests and diseases are dealt with, what types of seeds and seedlings can be used and how the food is handled. For livestock with the organic label they have to be fed only organic feed, have access to the out of doors, clean water, sunlight and the ability to move freely. This is no the same as free range however, or the term grass fed, or cage free. You may have noticed that some labels say "organic" while others say "100% Organic" or "Made with Organic Ingredients." The different labels relate to the different percentages of organic ingredients. So obviously if something says it is 100% organic, then all its ingredients have to be organic, but if it just says "Organic", up to 5% by weight of the ingredients could be non-organic. For example if a loaf of bread is made with organic flour, but uses baking powder, which is not organic, then it could still be labeled organic. The only requirement for the remaining 5%is that it can't be genetically modified. For food that says "Made with Organic Ingredients, that means that 70% of the ingredients are Organic. Now, even if some ingredients under the organic label aren't organic, they still have to be on a list of approved ingredients by the FDA, and the producer has to prove that there is no commercially available organic alternative. The certification for a farm to be organic can take up to three years and thousands of dollars. As you can imagine, not all farms can afford that, especially since a producer can't sell at the organic while it's in the process of being certified. This means that while the stall at your local farmers market may not be able to say they are certified organic, they may be more qualified for the label than ones that are certified. The other health label that you probably see often is "All Natural" or "Natural". This word actually isn't regulated unless it is put on eggs or meat. In that case the USDA says it means "minimally processed and containing no artificial ingredients." What minimally processed means I guess is open to interpretation, but it doesn't really matter on things like peanut butter or fruit because it isn't regulated anyways. As you can imagine, this has made a lot of people frustrated that the all natural products they choose aren't necessarily any better for them than conventional products. When we go to the grocery store we can be overwhelmed with all the choices but the one thing we don't have is a transparent production trail. Unless it's a farmers market , we are so disconnected from the place, people, animals and plants that make the food that we have to rely heavily on labels. While it's good that the organic certification exists, are the companies that produce organic doing it for the right reasons, or are they just trying to make more money? Will knowing what makes a food product organic change your buying habits? Let me know what you think in the comments section below and thanks for watching. Organic Vs Non-Organic Foods l Health&Life

04:12
What is Organic Food, and is it Better Than Non-Organic? Organic foods have exploded in popularity over the last two decades. n fact, US consumers spent $39.1 billion on organic produce in 2014 (1). The popularity does not seem to be slowing down, as sales increased by more than 11% from 2014 to 2015 (1). Many people think organic food is safer, healthier and tastier than regular food (2). Others say it's better for the environment and the well-being of animals. This article objectively compares organic and non-organic foods, including their nutrient content and effects on human health. What is Organic Food? The term "organic" refers to the process of how certain foods are produced. Organic foods have been grown or farmed without the use of artificial chemicals, hormones, antibiotics or genetically modified organisms. In order to be labelled organic, a food product must be free of artificial food additives. This includes artificial sweeteners, preservatives, coloring, flavoring and monosodium glutamate (MSG). Organically grown crops tend to use natural fertilizers like manure to improve plant growth. Animals raised organically are also not given antibiotics or hormones. Organic farming tends to improve soil quality and the conservation of groundwater. It also reduces pollution and may be better for the environment. The most commonly purchased organic foods are fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat. Nowadays there are also many processed organic products available, such as sodas, cookies and breakfast cereals.

Organic Food Science: What Does Organic Mean and is Organic Food Healthier?

To support our channel and level up your health, check out: Our Fast Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Our Better Health Basics Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/food-health-happiness Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thehealthnerds/ PRODUCE GUIDE: https://snaped.fns.usda.gov/seasonal-produce-guide On this video, we will be covering organic food, what does organic mean, and answering the question of is organic food healthier. And at the end we’re going to discuss what foods are the most important to eat organic. Let’s get started by answering the question of what does organic mean? Organic food is food produced with the standards of organic farming. Standards vary worldwide, but they general mean food produced without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. http://www.organic.org/home/faq Animals products only qualify as organic if they do not take antibiotics or hormones during their development. Now I should clarify, pesticides can be used by organic farmers on crops, just as long as they are derived from natural sources and are not synthetically created. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/organic Because mass producing crops without ANY pesticides would be a nightmare with wasted food in epic proportions. As my home boys over at ASAP Science so aptly put, just because a bag of chips has the “organic” label on them, does not make them healthy. Cookies, chips, and ice cream are not suddenly good for you because they are organic. But when people ask is organic food healthier, they are usually asking for a comparison of foods like veggies, fruits, and certain animal products. The scientific data we have is actually VERY so split on this issue: The reason: Money money money. MONEY. Monsanto, the famous poster child for evil pesticide producers, makes over 4.5 BILLION dollars in sales yearly and spends an average of 5 million dollars a year in public lobbying. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto When most people say that organic is not healthier for you, they usually cite a Stanford Review done in 2012 that came to conclusion that organic foods are not more nutritious than conventional foods. http://annals.org/aim/article/1355685/organic-foods-safer-healthier-than-conventional-alternatives-systematic-review Although, the study did concede that organic does limit the exposure or pesticides and antibiotic resistant bacteria. A new study published in the British Journal of Nutrition is the latest addition to the debate. It’s the largest meta-analysis that has been published on this topic, covering 343 individual studies looking into organic food. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26878105 One of the major conclusions found organic foods could boost a person’s antioxidant intake by up to 40%. One thing in favor of eating organic that these studies can not refute is reducing the amount of pesticides being ingested… On average, pesticides like cadmium had levels 400% lower, respectively, in organic produce than in conventional varieties. Since cadmium is a highly toxic metal that has been linked to an increased risk of everything from Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, and hormone disruption, it’s probably a good idea to minimize cadmium in your diet. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24557150 Other study’s have also linked pesticide exposure in children to ADHD and other development problems like low IQ. http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1989564,00.html https://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/04/21/pesticide-exposure-in-womb-affects-i-q/?_r=0 So, are organic foods healthier for you? Yes! In some studies, they have slightly more nutrients and do minimize our exposure to synthetic pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones added to what we eat. So should everyone eat organic? Not really. Cost is an issue for many people. #1. It seems animal products are more important to be organic than veggies. #2. Frozen organic foods are always a little cheaper #3. Use the clean 15 and dirty dozen list for fruits and veggies The Clean 15 are non-organic foods that have minimal pesticide exposure • Avocados • Sweet Corn • Pineapples • Cabbage • Frozen Sweet Peas • Onions • Asparagus • Mangos • Papayas • Kiwi • Eggplant • Honey Dew • Grapefruit • Cantelope • Cauliflower The dirty dozen on the other hand are the foods that have a lot of pesticide load if consumed non-organic. These foods are: • Strawberries • Apples • Nectarines • Peaches • Celery • Grapes • Cherries • Spinach • Tomatoes • Sweet bell peppers • Cherry tomatoes • Cucumbers Cheers!

Organic Farming - Meaning

02:22
What Does Organic Farming Really Mean? - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. What does Organic Farming really mean? Hi, I'm Judy with Judy's Homegrown. Organic farming is the process of, first of all getting certified by the proper agencies and following certain practices so that you don't use pesticide or fungicide. And what organic means to me is there's a lot more to it. If the soil has been handled properly, then it's much more nutritious for the plants and then we get that nutrition. If the plants haven't been treated properly with fungicide and pesticide what that does is kills the microbes in the soil. And the microbes are actually the most important part of getting nutrients to the plant. And one thing that people need to know is that when you grow organically the fungus in the soil for example micorisa, can extend the root system of that plant by over a 100 times, and what that allows the plant to do is to capture more nutrients from the soil, but it also allows the plant to sequester carbon in the soil. Plants take in Carbon Dioxide and they breathe out oxygen, and one of the problems of global warming is that we have too much Carbon Dioxide in the environment. And with a healthy plant that is growing in organic soil, that plant can take up to 100 times more carbon out of the environment and put it into the soil whereas what we're doing with conventional or what I like to say non-regenerative farming is we're not allowing plants to grow those micorisa, symbiotic relationships, and so our crops don't breathe as much and consequently we're not sequestering as much carbon as we could if we were growing things organically. So, an answer to the problem of global warming, is let's grow things organically. So, every time you make a choice for an organic product, you're also trying to save the planet from global warming, which is way more than most people realize when they choose organic.

Progress in drying and cooling of organic products - CORE Organic/SusOrganic (Oct 2016)

03:29
The SusOrganic project aims to improve the drying and cooling/freezing processes for organic products in terms of sustainability and objective product quality criteria. In this video, SusFood coordinator Barbara Sturm from the University of Kassel summarizes some of the most important preliminary results. Super-chilling of organically grown salmon eliminated the demand of ice for transport, resulting in both, a reduction of energy costs and a better value chain performance in terms of carbon footprinting. This is mainly due to the significantly reduced transport volume and weight without the presence of ice. The super-chilled cold chain is only a few degrees colder than the refrigeration chain but has a significant impact on the preservation characteristic. The product quality is not different and but the shelf-life is extended. This means that we can preserve the high quality of organic salmon over a longer time period, which can be helpful when e.g. reach far distant markets. We see the same trend for super-chilled organic meat products like pork or chicken. The consortium is also developing innovative non-invasive measurement and control systems and improving drying strategies and systems for fruits, vegetables, herbs, and hops. Particularly the producers of herbs and hops have shown great interest in the participation within the project. Through auditing campaigns as well as pilot scale drying tests it has been possible to develop optimisation strategies for both types of commodities, which can help reduce microbial spoilage and retain higher levels of volatile product components whilst reducing the energy demands. These results can be applied with modifications tot he other commodities under investigation.

Food Labeling: How to Identify Conventional, Organic and GMO Produce

02:52
The price look-up (PLU) code system used by most produce distributors has the side benefit of allowing consumers to identify conventional and organic produce at the grocery store. Even though the defeat of Proposition 37 means that genetically engineered information will not be added to labels at this time, PLU codes do have the potential to identify genetically engineered produce. This video shows you how to read PLU codes to unlock the information that is already right at your fingertips. Written and Produced by Mike Kahn.

The Natural / Organic Product Minefield Part 1A: What is a Natural / Organic Product?

08:12
Organic, the word is everywhere and yes, it sells (for now). In most cases the organic claim is deceptive. While a product may contain an organic ingredient, such as organically grown lavender, this does not mean that the entire product is organic. Unfortunately, in most cases, so called organic products often contain chemical preservatives and other petrochemicals which are anything but organic. In some cases these products even contain ingredients research has shown can be quite harmful, even carcinogenic - such as propylene glycol; polyethylene glycol (PEG); mono/di or tri-ethanolamine (MEA, DEA or TEA),, synthetic colours and fragrance . So how can the product manufacturer claim it to be organic?

25 Surprising Facts About Organic Food That You Might Want To Know

25 Surprising Facts About Organic Food That You Might Want To Know | List25 Want more? Check out the Food Playlist: http://bit.ly/2f6XZiy If you like this video subscribe to List25: http://bit.ly/1rPhSQH The term Organic is applied to food grown without harsh pesticides or certain types of pesticides (yes, it also means any carbon based life form, but that's not the definition we're working with today), and in the United States it's a huge business. There are a myriad of reasons why one might choose to eat Organic food - they have a disease like cancer or an autoimmune disorder; they have small children; or they simply don't wish to put a bunch of synthetic chemicals into their bodies. Some scoff at the Organic trend, saying that the amounts of pesticides that remain in our conventionally grown (non-organic) food aren't a big deal, and if they were The Government would do something about it, while others claim it's simply foolishness to pay more for say, a red pepper, because a farmer grows it differently. Regardless of how you feel about Organic food and produce, one thing is for sure: Americans, by and large, have become profoundly disconnected from where their food comes from, and what it takes to get it to the grocery store. So to shed a little light on at least the Organic portion of your shopping cart, here are 25 Surprising Facts About Organic Food That You Might Want To Know. Follow us on: Twitter: https://twitter.com/list25 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/list25 Website: http://list25.com Instagram: https://instagram.com/list25/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/list25/ Check out the physical list here: http://list25.com/25-surprising-facts-about-organic-food/ Contrary to popular belief, and contrary to what the name implies, pesticides are allowed in the growing of USDA Organic approved foods. There are over 40 pesticides on the allowable list that a farm can use and still get the USDA Organic stamp. So if not having pesticides is really important to you, know where your food comes from and what farms use pest control you agree with. Most organic food travels over a thousand miles to get from the farm to your grocery store, and many organics still come from countries like Mexico and China, so if you're eating organic to help the earth, you may want to pay as much attention to where your food comes from. Processed foods labeled as "Organic" - say oatmeal or cookies - can contain up to 5% non-organic ingredients and still qualify to carry the USDA "Organic" label. There aren't any Federal regulations for sustainable or organic seafood because you can't really regulate the ocean contents. So unless it's verified by a third party or farmed seafood, anything that says "Organic" as far as fish and shellfish are concerned is at best bending the truth. It should, however, be noted that there are third parties that rate seafood for sustainability, but again, there's not a US Government standard for this. Bacteria content for organically grown and conventionally grown produce is about the same, according to researchers at Stanford. However, conventionally raised and produced animal products were about 33% more likely to contain antibiotic resistant microbes. Eek! It's still really important to thoroughly wash organic produce. Bacteria is different from pesticides and can make you very sick. All produce has bacteria and dirt on it. Wash your food. And more... What is organic farming? | Biology for All | FuseSchool

03:51
As populations have grown, farming practices have become more intensified to maximise crop yields and ensure we can feed the ever growing population. Fertilisers and pesticides are used on crops, and animals may be kept inside in more densely packed sheds to maximise milk yields, or egg production, or speed up the time needed for the animal to be ready to be sent to market for meat. An alternative to conventional farming is organic farming. Organic farming currently accounts for about 1% of agricultural land worldwide. It focuses on sustainability and is thought to have less detrimental effects on the environment than conventional farming. This has led to it being proposed as an alternative to conventional agriculture for helping to overcome the climate change crisis we are currently experiencing. The debate continues, as it is not a perfect solution. In theory, organic farming should not use chemical fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides or feed additives for livestock. It requires the farmer to use more natural alternatives. This results in lower yields, but the farmer can sell their produce at a higher price because consumers believe the produce is of a higher quality. Instead of fertilisers, manure is used. This recycles waste and improves the soil structure. However, it is smelly and more difficult to apply than chemical fertilisers, and also means the farmer has less control over the mineral content they are putting into their soils. Crop rotation is used to reduce disease building up in the soils and to strengthen the soil composition. Certain crops, such as the legume family - so peas and beans, fix nitrogen from the air and increase the nitrates in the soil. This makes the soil much more fertile, and so farmers rotate legumes with their other crops. Growing multiple crops is however less efficient and produces lower yields than specialising in one or few crops however. Instead of using herbicides, weeding is the preferred organic farming technique. This is of course much more environmentally friendly because it is chemical free but it is very labour intensive. Although this does mean more jobs available, which is a great thing. Organic farming is thought to maintain the biodiversity better than conventional farming because fewer chemicals are used. There are more bumble bees and insects in an area because pesticides haven’t been used. Weeds and non-crop plants can grow as herbicides aren’t used. Biodiversity benefits the food chain across all levels, from the plants up to the foxes. These are the theories of organic farming, and is how we farmed for the one hundred thousand years before the industrial revolution. It is generally thought that organic farming is much better for biodiversity, and also produces a healthier product because less chemicals are used on it. In the second video on organic farming, we will look at some of the problems of organic farming, and the reality of what it means to be an organic farm. What is the difference between All Natural and Organic?

01:47
So is there a difference between "All Natural" and "Organic"? Watch and find out All Natural Defined: "Natural foods" and "all natural foods" are widely used terms in food labeling and marketing with a variety of definitions, most of which are vague. The term is assumed to imply foods that are minimally processed and do not contain manufactured ingredients, but the lack of standards in most jurisdictions means that the term assures nothing. The term "organic" has similar implications and has an established legal definition in many countries and an international standard. In some places, the term "natural" is defined and enforced. In others, such as the United States, it has no meaning. (Wikipedia) Organic Defined: Organic foods are foods that are produced using methods of organic farming -- that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Organic foods are also not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives.[1] The organic farming movement arose in the 1940s in response to the industrialization of agriculture known as the Green Revolution.[2] Organic food production is a heavily regulated industry, distinct from private gardening. Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and many other countries require producers to obtain special certification in order to market food as organic within their borders. In the context of these regulations, organic food is food produced in a way that complies with organic standards set by national governments and international organizations. Evidence on substantial differences between organic food and conventional food is insufficient to make claims that organic food is safer or healthier than conventional food. With respect to taste, the evidence is also insufficient to make scientific claims that organic food tastes better (Wikipedia) Organic Standards: Organic crops. The USDA organic seal verifies that irradiation, sewage sludge, synthetic fertilizers, prohibited pesticides, and genetically modified organisms were not used. Organic livestock. The USDA organic seal verifies that producers met animal health and welfare standards, did not use antibiotics or growth hormones, used 100% organic feed, and provided animals with access to the outdoors. Organic multi-ingredient foods. The USDA organic seal verifies that the product has 95% or more certified organic content. If the label claims that it was made with specified organic ingredients, you can be sure that those specific ingredients are certified organic. Regulatory Process The NOP develops the laws that regulate the creation, production, handling, labeling, trade, and enforcement of all USDA organic products. This process, commonly referred to as rulemaking, involves input from the National Organic Standards Board (a Federal Advisory Committee made up of fifteen members of the public) and the public. Organic GMO?!

07:46
-The definition of what "GMO" means is most important in the context of organic production, because they’ve been the champions of this term. Scientists are far more likely to call a “GMO” something more specific, though GMO is an accepted, albeit vague term that Genetic Engineers have been known to use. Transgenic, Polyploid, Hybrid, CRISPR… these are more specific terms that actually mean something. Beyond this, there are further delineations too. It gets even more granular than that very quickly. -The EU’s definition of GMO includes techniques besides transgenics, yet the North American definition only refers to transgenics. Also note: North America DOES NOT use the term GMO in any of formal policy, because it is so ambiguous. -The organic industry defined GMO. Yes the terms was used in science prior to the organic industry setting it’s mean as referring to only GE. I have not found an earlier written policy definition of what the term GMO does and does not refer to, then the definition found in the National Organic Standards Board’s late 90’s recommendations to the USDA. If anyone can provide me with a earlier definition where GMO was only to mean GE, I’d like to see it please, as that means my research is incorrect. -I AM NOT advocating that we start calling all food GMO. I am simply pointing out that the term GMO has very limited value, as in it’s “proper” use, it refers to something that has a more specific name (GMO really refers to GE). In my use of GMO it’s an umbrella term, and thus also has limited value. GMO is a silly turn of phrase that eventually should totally disappear, because it has very little descriptive value. By it’s official definition, GMOs are better called GE and by it’s un-official definition as an umbrella term, there are more specific names for all these propagation techniques. So… some people agree with my view on this, and some people don’t. Totally your call! :) Information and Photo Source Links: https://geneticliteracyproject.org/2013/12/03/gmos-vs-mutagenesis-vs-conventional-breeding-which-wins/ https://grist.org/food/mind-bomb-its-practically-impossible-to-define-gmos/ http://nationalpost.com/news/canada/organic-foods-gm http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/28/science/28crop.html https://mvd.iaea.org/#!Variety/281 https://tdaynard.com/2015/12/12/a-genetically-modified-organic-wheat-it-already-exists/ https://www.facebook.com/search/str/Discussion+Lab+Nick+Saik+Mutagenesis/keywords_blended_posts https://eating-made-easy.com/what-is-high-oleic-oil/ https://www.weeklytimesnow.com.au/agribusiness/cropping/welcome-back-to-amaroo-rice/news-story/406fd515af6cc27bb4f62fdaf689b720 http://www.shopwell.com/lundberg-family-farms-rice-organic-california-white-calrose/rice-other-grains/p/7341653500 https://mvd.iaea.org/ https://mvd.iaea.org/PDF/IPM200901.pdf http://goldenpromisebrewing.com/?lang=en https://www.oshadhiusa.com/ https://ca.iherb.com/pr/spectrum-naturals-organic-high-heat-sunflower-oil-refined-32-fl-oz-946-ml/53718 http://citrusmen.com.au/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=28&virtuemart_category_id=4 http://www.biritemarket.com/blog/page/8/?days=5 https://riceextension.org.au/documents/2018/2/19/rice-extension-newsletter-february-2018 https://www.fcrn.org.uk/fcrn-blogs/rebecca-nesbit/perspectives-organic-agriculture-and-new-plant-breeding-techniques http://saifood.ca/gmos-vs-mutagenesis-plant-breeding/ Website: www.knowgmo.ca Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learngmo YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvroQE2kXCeo-oUc6za7mrA/videos Twitter: @nick_saik

What is Organic Food - The Many Benefits of Organic Food

09:07
What is Organic Food - The Many Benefits of Organic Food -- http://www.noahhammond.com Today is about health and why you absolutely, without a doubt, must start buying and eating organic food only. This is something that I just woke up to, I would say about a year ago. I know a lot of people are still in the dark about this so I felt that it was really something that I had to get out there. This is REALLY important and it is going to save you potentially a lot of strife down the road and a lot of health problems. The Benefits of Organic Food -- More than Health! The first obvious benefit is simply nutrition. The way that industrial farming is done, they plant the same crop on the same soil over and over and over and over again. They stuff it full of fertilizers and they do not allow the natural cycle of composting, decomposing, and crop cycling to occur. The way farming is supposed to be done is you farm a crop and then you allow the soil to replenish by composting and rejuvenating it with lots and lots of nutrients. To do that, you must allow organic material to decompose there. Then, you plant another crop and you cycle the crops so that you can keep doing this. In industrial farming, they do the exact opposite which is planting the same crops in the soil continuously. If you can compare this to anything, it would be trying to get all of your nutrition from vitamins only. It simply does not work. Your body can't take only vitamins and get what it needs. In fact, vitamins are BAD for you. The same thing happens when they try to stuff the soil with fertilizers to make these plants have the nutrition they need. The end result is that the food they grow, while it LOOKS the same, its nutritional value is NOWHERE near the same. The most extreme example of this is a study they did at Rutgers University where tomatoes that were grown organically had about 2,000 parts per billion of iron to one, compared to only 1 part per billion in the non-organic tomatoes. Obviously, if you were eating tomatoes thinking you were getting your iron (essential for our health and balance), you were wrong. The inorganic tomatoes do not even have any because they are not even in the soil. So, number one is nutrition. What is that going to affect? It is going to affect disease. Diseases come only from two things - either TOXICITY or DEFICIENCY. If you don't get your vitamins and minerals, you become deficient. If you are deficient for long enough, your body can't maintain balance and you are going to get diseases. So, not eating organic food is going to cause you to have more disease. This is just proven. This is just factual. The tests are out there. The data is out there. So you want to get organic food for that alone. Now, another thing you want to understand is that the pesticides they use on these inorganic plants. They are very difficult to get off the food and a lot of times people do not prepare and scrub as diligently as they need to. You end up consuming these chemicals. At this point, it's even showing up in people's urine. It's showing up all over the place. People are really just getting inundated with these HARMFUL chemicals. That's going to cause toxicity. Again, you can only get sick or get disease as a result of toxicity or deficiency. Therefore, from the lack of nutrients, you'll have deficiency and from the chemicals, you'll get toxicity. So, inorganic food is a double whammy right there. Lastly and really most CRITICALLY, is that inorganic food can be genetically modified which other countries around the world have banned. In the United States though, we are inundated with it. A HUGE quantity of our food supplies are genetically modified, especially from corporations like Monsanto. These genetically modified foods are proven to cause CANCER and other issues. They are abundant in our food supply. So, if you are not buying organic and natural foods, you are likely getting something that was farmed in a way that it has almost has no nutrition, that is covered in pesticides and other harmful chemicals, and then it is genetically modified in a way that does not deliver to your body what it needs and actually causes cancer. All three of those combined could be a really, really powerful case for trying to buy only organic foods. Now I only eat organic foods and I have actually developed the ability to tell when I am eating something that is not organic. My body can sense the difference in nutrition. It is actually blatantly OBVIOUS to me at this point. I know this to be true from experience, not just from reading... Are Organic Foods Worth The Cost?

03:10
Download List Of Organics Foods You Should Prioritize http://www.adamlucero.com/organic-foods For something to be labeled as organic, it means that the company met all the requirements that are set by the government. And when it comes to crops, it means they can't use synthetic fertilizers and pesticides which make our vegetables much more healthy. And when it comes to meats, it means farmers can't use antibiotics unless the animal actually needs them. That means the farmer is going to have to keep that animal healthier and will notice that health in terms of better nutrients. It also means that they can't be injected with growth hormone. Growth hormone has been proven capable of surviving cooking and the digestive process. And a lot of people believe that growth hormone has a correlation to cancer and obesity. Now I get it, I know organic products are expensive and some people are on a budget and can't afford to get everything organic. If that's the case, then make sure to get organic animal products. The reason for that is because a lot of herbicides and pesticides that are sprayed on plants get taken up into their tissues. And when animals eat these plants, they're actually eating the pesticides and herbicides that are on those plants as well. And those pesticides and herbicides are fat soluble meaning that they are going to be stored in fat. And vegetables are low in fat while animals have way more fat. So, you're getting way more bang for your buck and avoiding more poison when you used organic animal products. And don't get me wrong. I'm not saying not to get organic vegetables. I get organic vegetables and I think it's worth it. But if you're on a budget and can't afford to get everything organic then make sure to use your money towards organic meats. And something else to keep in mind when shopping is to look for pasture-raised animal products. Research shows that herbivores can see which blades of grass have more nutrients in them and they prefer to eat those. This suggests that organic-raised animals that are kept in confinement aren't as healthy as pasture-raised animals because they are not able to roam and go have a big selection of their food. The standards of organic are always changing and they're actually getting lower and lower, which is really sad and that's why I recommend that you should get your food as local as possible. I like going to the Farmer's Market because you get to meet the person that grew your food. I like to ask them, "Did you use pesticides? And if so, what kind of pesticides did you use?" It's also great because you get to go and sample different products and ultimately choose whichever is the best source of food. Nutrition: Is Organic Worth It ? | What is Organic Food and Benefits of Organic Food

02:31
Check out the other information about NUTRITION: http://tinyurl.com/EndPur1 (Trouble Spot Nutrition) FACEBOOK : https://www.facebook.com/endpur.healthyliving FACEBOOK : https://www.facebook.com/endpur.healthyliving When you head to the grocery store, shopping for products like eggs, meat, fish, milk, and produce can be very tricky. Signs are posted everywhere labeling food as natural, organic, and a number of other things—but what’s the difference, really? Learning what specific names mean can help you decide if you should shell out extra money on a product, whether the nutrition value is better or if it is simply a marketing ploy. Natural is a term associated with a number of fruit and vegetable product. Typically, this is simple a marketing ploy to convince you to buy the product. After all, all fruits and vegetables are natural, right? Unless it’s a new kind of food that has been developed and processed, the product is natural. Probably what you’re really looking for is organic. Organic foods are grown without chemical pesticides and fertilizers. There are two main benefits to organic foods. Firstly, you are helping the environment as chemicals are not being introduced into nature. Secondly, you are avoiding ingesting chemicals and are therefore benefitting by using a healthier food. However, organic products are usually more expensive while nutrition is the same (I mean a good apple is a good apple). If you’re on a budget, skip over organic fruits and vegetables that you can peel, like oranges and bananas. After all, once you’ve discarded the peel, you’ve also discarded the chemicals. Instead, opt for organic items like apples, where you eat the peel. No matter what you buy, however, make sure that you rinse off the food when you get home. Another tricky label you will see is “no hormones.” This is usually in regards to milk or meat products and is false, since all animals naturally produce hormones. Hormones are what helps an animal (even a human) regulate body organs, have young, and otherwise function. All meat products have hormones. What the labels really mean is that no hormones were unnaturally given to the animal, which is sometimes done to increase milk production. Regardless of hormones, however, the milk and meat is safe for a person and not a violation of an animal’s rights. Lastly, a label on eggs and meat can indicate if the animal was caged or penned. This does not make a difference in the quality or nutritional value of the meat, but is simply a matter of animal rights. These products may be a bit more expensive, but if you want to make human decisions, that is the way to go. Reading the label and making healthy choices can sometimes be difficult, but learning how to do so can help you make the best choices for you diet. organic foods organic food what is organic food benefits of organic food organic food stores what are organic foods organic food facts organic food benefits advantages of organic food organic food definition definition of organic food pros and cons of organic food define organic food organic plant food health food healthy foods healthy food what does organic food mean organic products organics natural foods organic vegetables what is organic natural food organic fruit eating organic organic apples organic fruits organic product organic fruits and vegetables go organic

Organic Skin Product Worth the Splurge | Skin Care

01:14
Watch more Natural Skin Care videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/502210-Organic-Skin-Product-Worth-the-Splurge-Skin-Care Organic skin care products may cost a bit more, but a little of them often goes a long way. If you're on a budget, there is one natural skin care product that is definitely worth the splurge. Natural beauty products expert Spirit Demerson tells you about it in this video. When you first start shopping for natural or organic skin care products, one of the things you’re going to notice is that the prices do start a little bit higher. The misconception is that organic skin care products are generally more expensive and that’s not really true. Organic skin care products tend to be more concentrated, very little goes a very long way, and their benefits are multifold versus their conventional counterparts. Meaning, you can get a cheaper skin care cleanser that’s made of synthetic ingredients, but when you use an organic skin care cleanser, you’re actually giving your skin a nourishing treatment full of vitamins, not just a harsh cleansing. If you are on a tight budget and you want to invest in skin care products that have the biggest impact, you can save on your cleanser, your toner, your moisturizer, but look for the best ingredients you can buy when it comes to your serum. Your serum is the most concentrated actives that you’re going to use on your skin, whether you’re using it for hyper pigmentation, or just to prevent aging, to reduce aging or breakouts. Your serum is really where you want to invest in natural skin care.

Organic agriculture with marigold fungicide in India

01:10
Marigold petals being used in organic agriculture, as a local fungicide in India's Karnataka state. Karnataka is a state in South West India. It was created on 1 November 1956, with the passage of the States Reorganisation Act, which is celebrated annually as Karnataka Rajyotsava (English: Formation Day). Originally known as the State of Mysore, it was renamed Karnataka in 1973. It is the land of the Kannadigas, Tuluvas, Konkanis and Kodavas. The capital and largest city is Bangalore, also known as Bengaluru, which is at the forefront of the rapid economic and technological development that India is experiencing. Karnataka is bordered by the Arabian Sea and the Laccadive Sea to the west, Goa to the north west, Maharashtra to the north, Andhra Pradesh to the east, Tamil Nadu to the south east, and Kerala to the south west. The state covers an area of 191,976 square kilometres (74,122 sq mi), or 5.83 per cent of the total geographical area of India. It is the eighth largest Indian state by area. With 61,130,704 inhabitants at the 2011 census, Karnataka is the ninth largest state by population, comprising 30 districts. Kannada is the most widely spoken and official language of the state. The two main river systems of the state are the Krishna and its tributaries, the Bhima, Ghataprabha, Vedavathi, Malaprabha, and Tungabhadra, in the north, and the Kaveri and its tributaries, the Hemavati, Shimsha, Arkavati, Lakshmana Thirtha and Kabini, in the south. Both these rivers flow eastward into the Bay of Bengal. Though several etymologies have been suggested for the name Karnataka, the generally accepted one is that Karnataka is derived from the Kannada words karu and nādu, meaning "elevated land". Karu nadu may also be read as karu, meaning "black", and nadu, meaning "region", as a reference to the black cotton soil found in the Bayalu Seeme region of the state. The British used the word Carnatic, sometimes Karnatak, to describe both sides of peninsular India, south of the Krishna. With an antiquity that dates to the paleolithic, Karnataka has also been home to some of the most powerful empires of ancient and medieval India. The philosophers and musical bards patronised by these empires launched socio-religious and literary movements which have endured to the present day. Karnataka has contributed significantly to both forms of Indian classical music, the Carnatic and Hindustani traditions. Writers in the Kannada language have received the most number of Jnanpith awards in India. Organic Fertilizer and NPK what it is and how to calculate it

05:12
On todays episode we are going to talk about Organic Fertilizers and what and how to calculate NPK. According to Colorado State University an organic fertilizer refers to a soil amendment derived from natural sources that guarantees, at least, the minimum percentages of nitrogen, phosphate, and potash.  Examples include plant and animal by-products, rock powders, seaweed, inoculants, and conditioners. By definition these products have to guarantee at least a known amount of Nitrogen Phosphorus and Potassium or NPK So what is NPK? NPK refers to the percent weight of that Nitrogen Phosphorus and Potassium makeup of the material in question. Generally the industry standard is to consider include the entire weight of the organic molecule as a part of this weight. Using Nitrate as an example the % weight includes the Nitrogen and three Oxygen atoms that make up N03 Nitrogen is available in three forms. Ammonia, Nitrate and Nitrite. NH3 NO3 and NO2 Phosphorus is most commonly found in P2O5 and Potassium in K2O. So if you have results that represent the elemental numbers such as the lab results we have been presenting recently you will have to convert them to generate your NPK numbers so that you can compare then. The first step to do this is to figure what percent the N P and K make up of their organic forms. This is done using the atomic weight of the element in questions. The atomic weight generally represents the weight of the individual of each atom. Each atom on the periodic table has a different weight. Meaning for K2O there is one oxygen and two potassium atoms to total weight of K2O is: Total weight: (39.10*2) + 16 = 94.2 In order to figure out what % the nitrogen is simply divide potassiums combine atomic weight by the total combine weight. Present weight of Potassium (78.2/94.2)*100 = 83.01% The root equation here is K = 0.8301 x K2O So to convert out K number to get the K2O we are seeking you divide our result by 0.8301 K = 0.8301 x K2O K2O = K / 0.8301 And then divide by 10,000 to convert mg/kg (ppm) to percent (parts per 100) Mg/kg / 10,000 = % our final conversion of potassium: (20000/.8301)/10000= 2.41 This represents our K number in NPK. So as many of you know one of my goals this year is to test my own garden practices to see if the science holds true. In order to do this I have already presented the analysis of fall leaves and I have sent samples of coffee grounds, coffee, and comfrey to Maxxam analytics for assessment. Over the next few weeks Ill be presenting these results for coffee grounds, coffee and comfrey to see if the results support my garden practices. Ill be putting all of the results video in the Testing Garden Assumptions Playlist. Often, we are confused as to what is the difference between natural and organic. Also, many of us do not understand if herbal and Ayurvedic products are same as natural products or are they something else? We cannot easily differentiate between all these terms and it is even more confusing since their meaning often over laps. Below is a simplified classification of all of these categories of products so that you can make an informed choice and know what you are opting for! Herbal Products Herbal products are made of plant extracts, plant roots, leaves, etc and used as per their properties.
