Ocean Kayak Fishing Isn't Fun Anymore..

21:03
Mild profanity in this vid.. apologies 17:53 is really the beginning of the part you want to see, but this whole video has some decent content if you watch the whole thing but yea go ahead and click to the end and watch me flail through the waves. Do yourself a favor and watch this vid from a couple days later... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SXq4vEWsms Gopro: hero 3+ silver http://amzn.to/2iy8PyO Rod: Pompano Bay 7' Custom (http://www.pompanobayrods.com) Reel: Penn Clash 4k http://amzn.to/2hs2Gbr Fishfinder: http://amzn.to/2iwROJk Kayak: Hobie Revo 13.. kinda like this: http://amzn.to/2i8N5uk Magictail Tog jigs for the tog.. custom poured in NJ https://www.facebook.com/MagicTail-Bucktails-366916750153943/?fref=ts Video is a couple weeks old.... got to the beach with kayak in tow right after sunrise, drove around looking for 50lb stripers leaping out of the water but instead saw a whole lot of nothing.. drove around with Tenzin for a little while searching for any sign of life worth launching the kayaks for... found the fleet and I scouted it out from the beach.. It didnt look to promising.. Romo and Mike arrived.. we got out into the ocean a little before 9am... penetrated the fleet and found they were working a huge school of peanut bunker with very few fish on them, didn't see anyone hook up or any bait spraying, a couple hours passed, the fleet disappeared, started finding little pieces of life here and there, Romo got a nice Bluefish, there were some 24"-30" Bass working some peanuts in tight... it was basically dead all over out there and the only life we found was tight to the beach. Decided to try to find some structure and tog fish mid afternoon... caught a short.. then lost a drag puller (which I didn't have on video), before seeing the birds come back to life. Chased birds for the last hour of the day, they would pop up here and there and move quickly but I caught several bass and a bluefish on topwater before the day was over. Luckily the Bluefish I caught was able to destroy my waders while I was unhooking it. I missed a lot of blowups out there, the fish were doing their typical "hit the lure a bunch of times before actually eating it" but by days end I caught enough fish that I was semi satisfied... until it was time to go in. The waves/swell on this day were a little dicey and thanks to my poor timing I caught a nice wave which flipped my kayak, and lost just about all of my tackle. From the beginning of this day, after seeing dead water everywhere and then seeing the one fleet.. I wanted to bail on the striper persuit and drive another hour to try to get on some big tog, but I went against my better judgement and paddled the many miles and took a ton of casts all for some short bass and an average bluefish, destroyed my waders, and flipped my kayak.. but in the end, it was a beautiful november day with my friends on the water, even tho the fishing was tough it was still fun and I have no intentions to stop the ocean kayaking Luckily the beach bite lit up in the days preceding this which you saw in my last video.. I have a few days of footage to sift through but those videos will be coming up shortly. After editing the epic underwater blitz video I have been facing some serious lack of motivation to go through all these vids and put together less epic vids than that last one.. This here video took me a few days to piece together.. some kind of writers block.. editors block? Hopefully you enjoyed watching at least parts of this slow day of fishing and can laugh at my misfortune as I roll through the surf.. This was my first time "turtling" as they call it, and I should really be better prepared for this, every time, with leashes for all my rods and waterproof containers, but if you havent noticed by now, I am lazy and irresponsible and always put forth the minimum effort into maintaining my gear and well being... I dont think that will ever change. Luckily that box of plugs didnt have too many good lures in it... Romo also got some footage of me flipping which you can see on his channel here - https://www.youtube.com/user/romo7493 Rod: Pompano Bay 7' 3/8th-3/4oz x fast custom Kayak: Hobie Revo 13 Lures used: Tsunami talkin popper 7" all day. Sea Kayaking Croatia | expedition with Frontier Adriatic

05:58
This video was shot during our regular North Adriatic Sea Kayak adventure in May 2015. We started from our base just south of the amazing medieval town of Rab. We paddled around the southern Cape to the east side, where we found remote pebble beach with amazing views to the mainland and National Park North Velebit. It was time to set our first camp and prepare dinner in our improvised kitchen. Due to the nature of such kayaking trip the whole group soon became involved and helped with cooking and cleaning up. This is the beauty of any expedition trip, everyone is involved and is part of the family. This is especially true for sea kayaking expeditions as kayaks are limited with space and everybody needs to carry something to benefit the whole group.  The next day we woke up into a sunny morning, stretched our legs, finished breakfast, cleaned the camp and started kayaking north. First we visited cave Medova buža. To enter the cave you have to jump through the small hole and then climb out. All this is not a problem, but in May the problem was temperature of the water, while it is not a big deal to swim in the sea, the cave is in a shade and the water inside is very cold, but there were few of us who accepted the challenge.  After the cave, we visited a bay of Lopar, with its sandy beach, which is one of only a few in Croatia, before moving on to the North side of the island Rab to cross the small channel to the island of Sv. Grgur. Sv. Grgur is one of the two prison islands in Croatia. The other one is even more famous,  Goli otok. Prison islands were established in 1949 when Croatia was still a part of Yugoslavia. The prison islands were closed in 1988 and today it is possible to visit and explore the ruins of ex prisons. One can also find around 40 bunkers all over the island and a huge water collector made of stone on top of the island. A nice surprise were deers, that moves totally free all around the island and are not afraid of people, so they came close and we actually fed them directly from our hands just in front of our tents. After this historical lesson, the next morning we continued kayaking towards the biggest Croatian island. To reach island Krk we first paddled to the coast of island Prvič, where we could admire beekeepers at their work. As we reached island Krk, once a blue sky, turned into dark clouds and before we managed to reach our camping site we experienced a decent shower, but the rain was soon over so we could easily set up our camp for the night. Actually, one night turned in to two nights as bura started blowing the next morning and it was too risky for our group to continue. Instead, we hiked to the nearby town, Krk, where we enjoyed "civilization" after a few days and also went for dinner in a restaurant. Like always pizza and a beer tasted even better after such a trip. We had a great time in Krk and the forecast was also promising for the next day. The next morning bura was down and we could continue our adventure, next stop, island Plavnik. Plavnik is a small island between the biggest Croatian islands Krk and Cres. We set our camp on the SW side of this uninhabited island that is today used for hunting. There was a small village once on the island and we went to search for the remains that one can find on top of the island. Besides the ruins, top of the island offered us much more than that. The view from the top is amazing as it is possible to see many surrounding islands and basically you can see the whole route we did, all the way back from island Rab. And seeing the route like this is quite impressive, I must say. In the morning I looked out of my tent and I noticed some company, sheep. Together with warm morning sun and oil-like sea, it was a nice breakfast company. One last kayaking day remained, so we cleaned the camp, packed our sea kayaks and headed towards island Cres. East side of the island Cres offers amazing beaches and some impressive cliffs. And the cliffs were hiding something even more impressive than the cliffs itself, the Griffon Vultures. Island Cres is one of the rear nesting colonies for this species. It was impressive to paddle calm seas, below cliffs while this impressive animal was flying above us with its wingspan of almost 3 meters. After a few amazing days of sea kayaking around and along North Adriatic islands we reached our final destination, beautiful beach just below the town Beli on island Cres. We set our camp and went for a short walk in old oak and chestnut forest in the area called Tramuntana. There we found very interesting things like Roman aqueduct, interesting labyrinths, many abandoned shepherd houses as well as some nice walking and biking trails. Town of Beli is also home of Griffon Vulture rescue center that we were very happy to visit and learn more about this beautiful animal. Kayak Fishing for White Sea Bass & Eating Raw Fish | #FieldTrips West Coast

Ocean Kayaks Malibu 2XL floating review. Used here solo at sea December 3rd 2013

18:07
I have 4 kayaks for touring, fishing and surf. I usually use my Old Town Ambush for fishing as it has a huge capacity and tremendous stability at sea, it also takes an engine. However it is heavy at 44kg. So, I have been giving my Ocean Kayaks Malibu 2XL a fighting chance to prove itself, and at 28kg it is easier to manhandle. For me a sea kayak must be stable, track well and have very good seakeeping qualities - ie handle waves from all angles and sizes and beat the wind. The fact that the Malibu is almost half the weight of the Ambush is a bonus. Its downside is deck space. You have to be organised and minimalist. I cant kneel in it, so cleaning fish afloat is difficult if I have a large haul. I am impressed with it though, it cut through waves and headwinds very nicely, but it will have more challenging seas than this video has to satisfy my demands. I will post an update when I get that footage.

NORTHSEAKAYAK - Sea Kayak Training Camp Lumbarda, Croatia Edition 2018

09:51
A few months ago, I got an email from Ivka and Boris. They introduced themselves as enthusiastic beginners to sea kayaking, telling me that they want to start up a sea kayak business in Lumbarda, Croatia. They asked us if they could attend to one of our well-known Training Days to learn a thing or two about sea kayaking and safety. While getting to know each other the idea of coming over to Belgium changed to organizing a whole training camp spread over several days. I could feel that these people were on the same page as our NORTHSEAKAYAK team, eager to learn, enthusiast and friendly, so I said yes! I could organize my classes as I pleased for five days. Although I had never met Ivka and Boris before I could immediately feel a connection, my feeling was right when I arrived there! When I said to them that the “magic” would happen when my team arrived they couldn’t believe it at first. We made a schedule for the coming days, way in advance, so we could teach a large number of techniques, sharing as much of our own knowledge as possible. Safety is a priority so rescues, self-rescues and whole doom scenarios would be included. Now we look back to a successful Sea Kayak Training Camp in Lumbarda, Croatia. I would recommend other people to visit the area, make sure to contact Boris and Ivka, their business is called “Spirit of Korkyra” (website https://spiritofkorkyra.com/ ) and aims at the sea kayak enthusiast and hikers who want to explore the beautiful island. I can honestly say that we have made new friends who welcomed us as if they have known us for years! I had the honor to work with a great, friendly and motivated crew who I consider family! I hope to go back there one day! Big thanks for the whole crew who attend this first Sea Kayak Training Camp in Lumbarda, and let’s not forget our lovely photographer Sylvie, for filming a lot! Take care of each other on the water and have fun!

Sea Kayak Around Ireland - Full Documentary

46:00
Winner of Best Sea Kayaking Film - Reel Paddling Film Festival 2017 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sea Kayak Around Ireland is 45 minute documentary the tells the story of 2 Irish Sea Kayakers who take on their dream journey of circumnavigating their country. 2015 will go down, for myself (Jon Hynes) and my paddling partner, Sean Cahill as being one of our most memorable years. We both have enjoyed a lifetime of adventures from a very young age. This has been one of our most satisfying adventures yet. We really hope you enjoy our documentary “Sea Kayak Around Ireland”. It’s been a dream of our to paddle around our own country for many years. In fact we were inspired by many of our kayaking friends who have taken on the journey in the past. Over the year both Sean and I have kayaked all over the world, we’ve had great victories over nature and the elements both on the sea and on the river. Sometimes we fared less well against those elements, however we always maintained a grounded sense and a willingness to learn. With these experiences behind us we embarked upon our dream trip around Ireland in June & July 2015. Not only did the weather and elements test us but our trip was a celebration of life, fitness, adventure and most of all, Irish people. Every day we met people, who were so kind to us, we are forever grateful to each and everyone of you. Hopefully this film in some small way reflects how much that kindness means to us. Ireland truly is, one of the world’s most special places to come and sea kayak. Both Sean and I would to thank the following people and companies. Cian Walsh of Marine User Experience (http://www.mux.ie) for all his hard work, dedication and unending energy to help us bring our story to life in this documentary. We really appreciate every ounce of energy you gave. Much respect. Thanks to Nick Bendon of www.chmarine.com , he came on board our trip plans from a very early stage and supported us with product and publicity. Yak Kayaking equipment kindly supplied us with some really fantastic kit. The Greenburg Buoyancy Aid and Glacier Jacket felt like battle armour when we faced the most challenging of Atlantic sea condtions. http://www.crewsaver.com/yak Craghoppers clothing and Gavin Fox were also very kind to us taking care of all our shore based clothing. Thank you. http://www.craghoppers.com Gavan Murphy of www.globalstar.com kindly supplied us with a Spot Tracker Gen 3 device that was superb in allowing people to monitor and track our progress. Thank you. Thanks to the following. Declan Counihan of West Midland Optical & Julbo eyewear. Reed Chillcheater http://www.chillcheater.com Graham Stanley http://www.stanleystickers.com The Speckled Door pub & restaurant Old Head of Kinsale. Oisin McGrath who filmed us with his drone in Co. Clare, a special thanks! http://iflytechnology.com Big shout out to Pearse and Jason of http://www.bigsurfshop.com , THE best online surf shop in Ireland! Music Annette Buckley Beneath the Big Blue Sea, thank you so much for this beautiful track. Can't wait to take you sea kayaking in Summer 2016. Moby SSDX The Hynes Family, thanks for all your belief in me over the years. A special thanks to my Father, Tony Hynes and my Mother, Hillary Good who gave me the opportunities as a young boy to go kayaking and brought me to the most special place every summer, Roaring Water bay, West Cork. Those childhood experiences have forged a lifetime love of being out on the water. A special thanks to the Cahill family for all their support of Sean and his journey around Ireland. A special thanks to all the volunteers and staff at Coast & Cliff Rescue stations and RNLI stations all around Ireland who let us camp, shower, refresh along the way. Keep up the great work at sea. We’d also like to acknowledge and thank the lads who work 24:7 at the Marine Radio Centre’s at Valentia Island, Malin Head and Dublin. Thanks for watching over us and the weather updates every day. We really do appreciate your great work. A final note, to our wives, your belief in us and un-ending support means so much. Without you, we could not have done this! Thank you. Sea Kayaking Around Ireland is something that can be enjoyed by everyone. Check out http://www.seakayakaroundireland.com for details of all the people who have taken on the challenge. Cowichan River Trip - By Sea Kayak

35:51
Father (age 77) and son (age 49) take on the Cowichan River on Vancouver Island, BC. After having explored the lower half of the river by float tube with his sister Nancy the day before, Mike determines 'how hard can it be' and decides with his dad, Doug, to kayak the upper part of the river putting in just below Skutz falls. The thermo-formed plastic boats by Delta Kayaks were put through their paces resulting in a few bangs, dents and cracks. At 14.5 ft, these boats are too long for the river and too short for the ocean - PERFECT! We had a wonderful trip together although we ended up having to call the trip short due to taking on water through the cracks. Out of cell phone range, we relied on Doug's Ham Radio to save the day and relay a message for an alternate pickup site. Lots of drama resulted when the message was relayed with the word 'distress' included! Nothing like causing a bit of panic in the family! The video is LONG so if you want to skip to the action highlight, go to the 8:00 mark...

Sea Kayak Surfing Basics Redux - Weekly Kayaking Tips - Kayak Hipster

08:06
Kayak Surf is always a topic that comes up, and I was asked to explain the basics a bit more in depth and maybe show some examples. I went through old footage of classes I've taken as well as used clips from my recent trip to Mexico to paddle with Daniel Mendoza. You can find his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdK2PRntzXEN_vQAYnOLFBg https://www.instagram.com/seakayak_mexico/ Please take this as just an overview. Some of these clips do not show perfect (or good even in some cases) form, especially my old clips from surfing classes. These are supposed to show things to avoid and continue to improve, and show areas where things were improved throughout the lessons. As always, leave a comment to discuss any of these topics or if there's any questions. Kayak Hipster http://www.kayakhipster.com
