From Oscar de la Renta to Chanel, here are some of the most lavish and prestigious fashion brands. Subscribe to Hindered Thoughts http://goo.gl/d3U3RP 6. Chanel The high fashion wear company was introduced to the world back in 1909 by none other than Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, otherwise known as “Coco Chanel.” This is where the brand gets its inspiration for the famously recognizable logo that is two interlocking C’s. The company specializes in creating haute couture for its wealthy clients but also for fashion models like Naomi Campbell, who once modeled for them, and actresses Marilyn Monroe, Keira Knightley, and Nicole Kidman. One of their most famous products is the perfume No. 5 de Chanel, along with the Chanel Suit. Today, Chanel is valued at being $6.8 billion dollars. An interesting fact to note is that Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director behind Fendi, happens to be the creative director for Chanel as well. 5. Prada Founded back in 1913 by Mario Prada, this fashion brand actually started out by manufacturing leather bags and trunks. It would then evolve into selling everything from clothing to perfume and even a brief stint of LG Prada cell phones. Though the brand may have broadened its inventory, it still spends the majority of its focus creating some of the world’s most exclusive handbags that only the rich and famous can possibly hope to afford. Mario Prada believed that women should not be involved in business so he excluded his own family members from getting involved. In a fantastic twist of irony, his son did not care to run the business so his daughter Luisa Prada took over as his successor and is now currently being run by her daughter Miuccia. 4. House of Versace The fashion empire that is the House of Versace all started with fashion designer Gianni Versace back in 1978. He created a brand that has been synonymous with elegance and simply oozes high fashion. His glamorous gowns have gone on to make a name for himself as a respected designer. Like the case of the famous black dress held with gold safety pins that actress Elizabeth Hurley wore back in 1994 to the premiere of Four Weddings and A Funeral. Sadly, Versace’s life was cut short in 1997 on the steps of his Miami mansion when he became the fifth and final victim of Andrew Cunanan. The tragic event will be the story behind American Crime Story’s season 2 titled: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. After his death, his sister Donatella became the new Artistic Director and has established a $5.5 billion company her brother would be proud of. 3. Gucci Started in 1921 by a Mr. Guccio Gucci, the company was originally dabbing in leather goods. It wasn’t until 19 years later when his son Aldo would take the company from being a one-stop shop into the fashion powerhouse that it’s now known for being. It’s Aldo that would usher in the era of the brand’s iconic “Bamboo Bag” and its “ready to wear segments.” In the 90’s, the company decided to bring American Fashion designer Tom Ford to revamp their women’s wear. He ended up helping launch the brand to where it is today. The fashion brand houses other well-known designers in its collections such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent. If you’re in the market to do some shopping at this $12.4 billion brand, expect to spend at least $2,000. 2. Louis Vuitton This may come as a shock but the famous fashion brand has been around longer than you might have thought. Formed 163 years ago in 1854, a young man by the name of Louis Vuitton started out as an apprentice for a box-maker. Vuitton ended up becoming a well-known crafter of luxury trunks and opened up his own shop in Paris. He then ended up becoming the personal box-maker of Napoleon III’s wife, Empress Eugenie de Montijo. Fast forward years later and the company is now worth $28.1 billion with a generated revenue of $10.1 billion. Today, Louis Vuitton doesn’t make just trunks but designer handbags and clothing that can be spotted on the most famous of A-listers. 1. Balenciaga The beginning of Balenciaga’s reign began back in 1919 when it was established by its founder of the same name, Cristóbal Balenciaga. As a young child, Balenciaga became an apprentice to a tailor in his hometown of Getaria, Spain and would eventually get his formal training in Madrid. He would go on to create the House of Balenciaga and skyrocketed to success thanks to his artistic genius. He was hailed as the undisputed “ King of Fashion” and was highly respected among his peers which included the likes of Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Pierre Balmain. Balenciaga even helped train the likes of high-fashion designers Oscar de la Renta and Hubert Givenchy to name a few.

The story of the House of Gucci. They mastered the art of branding, line extensions, retail experiences, and product licensing strategies. Italian designers have sailed forth from their native shores like the explorers of old to conquer much of the new world with their coveted treasures and shiny retail palazzos. They have infiltrated the dream factories of Hollywood and now their names are as ubiquitous on the red carpets as on the Milan runways. Born from humble beginnings in Florence’s 1921, Gucci’s first incarnation was a small, family-owned saddlery shop. Its focus was on leather goods for the fine horseman: saddles, boots gloves and saddlebags. Founder Guccio Gucci (1881-1953) was inspired by the luxurious luggage of travelling Parisians whilst living abroad and soon turned the business’s attention to fine leather goods with classic styling. Although Gucci organised his workrooms for industrial methods of production, he maintained traditional aspects of fabrication. Initially, Gucci employed skilled workers in basic Florentine leather crafts, attentive to finishing. With expansion, machine stitching was a production method that supported construction. Perhaps the most famous shopping district in Rome is the area surrounding Piazza di Spagna, at the base of the Spanish Steps. Tourists flock here to see the flagship stores of Italian designer lines like Prada, Gucci, Etro, Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu, Bottega Veneta, Missoni, Versace, Tod's . . . the list seems almost endless. You'll also find Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Wolford, Sephora, Jimmy Choo, Tiffany and other big global brands. Via del Babuino is a very elegant street, connecting Piazza del Popolo and Piazza di Spagna. There you can find designer shoes, clothes, jewelries, high end antique stores, a couple of book stores (including the Touring Club, where you can find great maps and books about Rome, Italy and more) and several famous brand boutiques, including Emporio Armani. Via dei Condotti and via Borgognona, parallel streets connecting via del Corso and Piazza di Spagna, have the big firms of Italian and international fashion from Prada to Valentino, Hermes, Trussardi, Moschino and more... even if you can't afford shopping there, don't miss a stroll in the area to admire the displays in the windows. More affordable yet elegant designer clothing and accessories can be found in other parallel streets, such as via Frattina, via della Croce, and via Vittoria. There's a bookstore (called the Anglo American Bookstore) that sells book in English in via della Vite. As you walk around the city center you'll find plenty of interesting stores also around the Pantheon and piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina area. Another interesting area for shopping is around Campo de' Fiori and Piazza Navona. In via del Governo Vecchio, close to Piazza Navona, you'll find young/independent designer stores, so if you're looking for something a bit more original, that's where you want to go. Also - via dei Giubbonari, connecting piazza Campo de' Fiori and via Arenula, has some interesting stores for clothes, shoes and bags.

The German-born designer Karl Lagerfeld has died at the age of 85. He was a designer, an artist and a fashion icon. For this sad occasion we recommend a portrait DW made in 2014. No living fashion designer, let alone a German one, was as celebrated as Karl Lagerfeld. On September 10, 2018 the man with the trademark ponytail and sunglasses celebrated his 85th birthday. From dawn to late morning, Karl Lagerfeld designs for Chanel, Fendi and his own signature brand - a combined workload of up to 15 collections a year. A workhorse who never takes breaks or even a vacation, he is also a photographer and filmmaker. His passion for fashion was awakened by a Dior show in Hamburg in 1950. Four years later, at the age of 17, Karl Lagerfeld was hired as an assistant to Pierre Balmain. Karl Lagerfeld recounts his beginnings in the industry, as well as his upper class background and childhood in Schleswig-Holstein. Karl Lagerfeld was greatly influenced by his mother, whom he describes as his personal style icon. Karl Lagerfeld's caustic comments were notorious and dreaded by those at the receiving end. As an artist, Karl Lagerfeld worked in several media, from pictures and photographs to book illustrations and videos. The documentary of 2015 follows Karl Lagerfeld to exhibition openings, during the hectic preparations for his fashion shows, and at photo shoots in Paris as it seeks to uncover the man behind the mask. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Tracy Gold gives you tips on how to dress with Italian style when visiting Italy.****** For details on Italian Style Makeovers click here https://goo.gl/bcYBWe Subscribe to channel https://goo.gl/wSXFlV Visit website http://tracygoldfashiontips.com/ Follow me on Instagram https://goo.gl/QHy3Qt Details for Italian Style Makeover click here https://goo.gl/bcYBWe About the video: Having spent some time in Italy, I was inspired by their amazing sense of style. They are known for dressing well and doing so with such confidence. Here are my top tips to dressing with Italian style… yourself. 1. The Italians are stylishly understated. The look is simple, but well put together. You can create this look by choosing one statement piece that has the wow factor and then keeping the rest of your outfit fairly simple. For example, wear a decorative jacket and pair it with jeans and boots or wear a bold colour scarf with an otherwise neutral outfit. 2. The Italians place more importance on personal style rather than the latest trends. Don’t get me wrong, they are aware of the latest trends, they are just not slaves to them. Above all, Italians wear what suits them. You can create this look by choosing a few key fashionable pieces that will update your existing wardrobe and reflect your personal style. For example, this red leather biker jacket that I bought in Milan is a trendy piece, but it works so well with my existing wardrobe and personal style. 3. Italian women know how to create a sensual look without showing too much skin. You won’t see many super wearing super short, tight skirts or plunging necklines revealing cleavage. You can create this look yourself by showing skin selectively. Either show a bit of leg and keep the neckline covered or show a bit of neckline and keep your legs covered. 4. The Italians understand that fitted clothing works better for their body shapes, than baggy clothing. Be prepared in invest in key pieces that fit you well and suit your shape, but that doesn’t have to mean paying big money for designer brands. You could find you your perfect fit on high street or in vintage stores. Either way, learn what suits your shape and only buy what really works for you. 5. Wear stylish flats Italian women walk a lot, especially in the big cities. There is no time for hobbling around in stilettos. This means they need to be comfortable, but they never forget style. Wearing flats doesn’t have to mean looking dowdy. It all depends on the style of flat shoes you wear, what you wear with them and that you wear them with confidence. On May 20, 2016 Italian fashion designer Peter Langner (http://www.peterlangner.it) used my composition, The Other Side, as the music to this video for the unveiling of his 2017 bridal collection at the international leading bridal exhibition Sisposa Italia Collezioni in Milan, Italy. The video played on a giant video wall as models hit the runway wearing his latest creations - each a unique work of art! Peter's bridal and evening gowns have graced the covers of magazines like Martha Stewart,/USA Bride, and have been worn by celebrities including Sofia Vergara, Kate Grammar, and Mirada Lambert. On a personal note, I was deeply honored as Peter is an incredibly gifted and skilled designer - his work is brilliant. It was a challenge to complete this music - the original composition was only 2 minutes and I had to stretch it to 10! Writing long pieces of music wasn't the challenge - it was reinventing something my brain perceived as "finished" that was difficult! A fun process for sure. Musicians on this recording include Ben Bram (PTX producer/arranger and 2X Grammy Award winner), Tim Davis (LA based vocal contractor and singer - GLEE, DISNEY, etc), Aubrey Logan (LA-based jazz singer and trombonist), Ann Marie Calhoun (an accomplished violinist who has toured with Yanni, Hans Zimmer, and so much more), and LA-based String Mob. This piece would not sound as it does without each of these special and talented people. On a technical note, I used a new plug in by OUTPUT called MOVEMENT all over the vocals and strings - incredible piece.

Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500174-Bulgari-Fashion-Designers One thing that's important to keep in mind about Bulgari is their style. Their style's very bold. Very audacious. They use a lot of yellow gold, as opposed to other companies that use platinum or silver. They mix very precious stones with stones of lesser quality to really get, kind of, eye popping jewelry. It's a family owned company that's always been based in Rome. It was founded in 1884 by Mr. Bulgari himself, who was the Greek silversmith who moved to Italy. And, their influences have ranged from, everything from the Italian Renaissance to going back to Greek and Roman history. One of the motifs that they use a lot is a Roman coin. A gold, Roman coin that they set into some of their fabulous jewelry. They're very strong on watch design, as well. And, one of their most famous watch designs is a coiled snake bracelet for women, in which the head of the snake flips up and you see a little watch face. During the 1950's, and the 1960's, in particular, a lot of the movie stars of Italian cinema, people like Sophia Loren and Anna Magnani, Gina Lollobrigida were known for wearing fabulous Bulgari pieces. Sparkling in the evening. Combining the Bulgari with their fabulous, Italian designer evening gowns. Lately, the company has done other things. They've branched out into accessories. Recently, Bulgari has branched out into another level of the luxury business. And, they've opened several resorts and restaurants. And, they've gone into skin care, as well. So, between the jewelry, the fine leather goods, skin care, fragrance and resorts and restaurants, that really is the essence of Bulgari.

Though most of us are spending the last few weeks of summer through heatwave, fall will be here before you know it. We may still be suffering through heat wave after heat wave, but it’s never too early to consider investing in a few key pieces for the season ahead. Let's get our inspirations from these lovely Italian ladies and remember that there is no need for a new fall wardrobe. All it takes are a few unique pieces to breathe new life into your wardrobe. There is a way of incorporating effortless style into your everyday look with just a few smart buys that will last you long into next season and the one after, too. A new handbag is at the top of the list. It would jazz up everything, from your jeans-and-t-shirt daywear ensemble to your smarter evening looks. A coat is another investment that would spruce up your wardrobe. Throw it on top of a dress in the fall or wear to the office and watch how it pulls together even the most mismatched of outfits, making it perfect for those days when nothing seems quite right. As far as shoes are concerned, there are so many choices. An intoxicating range of shoes that ran the gamut from platform boots to alluring evening ready kitten heels. And finally, you can’t go wrong with another chunky knit for the chilly fall months. It's the easiest way to feel polished, even on your laziest days. The personal collection of Italian fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli is to be auctioned by... euronews, the most watched news channel in Europe Subscribe for your daily dose of international news, curated and explained:http://eurone.ws/10ZCK4a Euronews is available in 13 other languages: http://eurone.ws/17moBCU http://www.euronews.com/2014/01/22/legendary-italian-fashion-designer-s-clothes-auctioned The personal collection of Italian fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli is to be auctioned by ==Christies in Paris. A rival of Coco Chanel, Schiapareli was at the heart of avant-garde ideas during the 1930s. Around 180 items, currently owned by the legendary designer's granddaughter Marisa Schiaparelli Berenson will go under the hammer. "She was the most modern woman and designer up to this day, it's why everybody still is so inspired by her because nothing is old fashioned. Everything is totally modern and new all the time," Schiaparelli Berenson said. Starting with knitwear, Schiaparelli's designs were heavily influenced by her collaborations with artistic icons Salvador Dalí, Man Ray and Christian Bérard International specialist director of Christies' fashion and textiles department Patricia Frost said: "I think Schiaparelli influenced people who followed her by being unusual, by being not one of the crowd. She had fantastic cutting skills so the structures of her dresses are amazing. It may look like a little black dress but it's very complicated. And she also used colour in a way that was really innovative in the 1930s. She used shocking pink, the sleeping blue. She invented colours that she made her own." In addition, for being credited for her playfulness and bringing about a sense of ''anything goes'' Schiaparelli embraced new technologies and textiles of the time "She was just a liberated woman as great women are. She just had the courage to be herself and be in her own truth, and be a creative person and she was very free. She lived the life that she wanted to live and the way she wanted, she earned her own money," said Schiaparelli Berenson. The sale is expected to fetch in excess of 850,000 euros. Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500171-Gucci-Fashion-Designers The Gucci business was founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci. He was from Florence. He had worked in hotels in London and in Paris and during his work there was impressed by the beautiful luggage that he saw travelers traveling with. He went back to Italy determined to start his own leather business and make beautiful luggage calling upon the rich leather making tradition of his native Tuscany. The company made riding gear and luggage and equestrian inspired leather accessories. He built a strong following among very upper class clientele and had several stores in Italy by the 1930s. He brought his sons into the business and they were really instrumental in expanding the business. By the 1950s they had stores in several places in Italy and also in New York. The Gucci brand was rapidly acquiring a reputation for being a real status symbol. During the 1950s Italian fashion and accessories were seen as prestige items and by the 1960s Gucci loafers in particular were really seen as status symbols with their very distinctive green and red bands and the horse bit detailing on them that of course makes a reference to their early years of Gucci. So, that's a little bit about the early history of Gucci and about how the brand has become so successful and prestigious in fashion.

Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500169-Tom-Ford-Fashion-Designers Learn about designer Tom Ford for Gucci in this Howcast fashion video with expert Nancy Deihl. To update it's image, Gucci hired the American designer Tom Ford. He was brought in to rekindle the brand by John Mellow, an American fashion executive and he was brought in initially to design one ready-to-wear line, but then he quickly rose to become creative director in 2001. During the time he was at Gucci, he was very successful in bringing back the sexy factor to Gucci. He made a lot of references in his design to the 1970s, which was, of course, really important years for the brand, but also a time in fashion that he was attracted to, personally. A lot of his work has leather accents. He did very body conscious fashion, and really rekindled the Gucci brand. It was, at first, a surprising choice to pick an American designer, but it obviously worked for Gucci. Tom Ford's work from that time shows a lot of influence from the 1970s, which was, of course, a very important period for Gucci, but also a time that he found personally appealing. He initiated, also, some very kind of sexy ad campaigns for the Gucci accessories and the clothing and the fragrance. He was really successful in repositioning Gucci as a very desirable luxury brand.
