Birthday: August 18, 1936 Nationality: American Famous: Left Handed Actors Sun Sign: Leo Age: 82 Years, 82 Year Old Males Also Known As: Robert Redford Born in: Santa Monica Famous As: Actor Height: 1.79 M Family: Spouse/Ex-: Sibylle Szaggars (M. 2009), Lola Van Wagenen (M. 1958–1985) Father: Charles Robert Redford Mother: Martha Hart Siblings: William Redford Children: Amy Redford, James Redford, Scott Anthony Redford, Shauna Redford City, States, Provinces & Districts: California Founder/Co-Founder: Sundance Film Festival Net Worth: $170 Million As Of Jun 10, 2017 ---------------------- Robert Redford was once described as one of the ‘most attractive’ men in Hollywood and continues to captivate women with his riveting charm and on-screen charisma. He was once a television-cum-stage actor, but achieved humongous success as an actor in Hollywood with films like ‘The Way We Were’, ‘The Milagro Beanfield War’ and ‘Quiz Show’. He received a number of honors throughout his lifetime and even though he is a business plutocrat and environmentalist today, he continues to have women toadying over him, owing to his great panache. The recipient of the honorable ‘Legion d’Honneur’, Redford is the perfect embodiment of ‘old-meets-new’ and continues to enthrall audiences with his captivating presence. Not only was he an actor, he also branched out in a number of other fields related to cinema, particularly film direction and production. During his prime, he starred in a number of classics including ‘The Sting and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’, ‘The Horse Whisperer’ and ‘The Conspirator’. Following these successes, he became a bankable star and the kind of roles he played cemented his position in Hollywood forever. To know all about the childhood, profile career and timeline of this personality, scroll further and keep reading. --------------------- Childhood & Early Life Robert Redford was born Charles Robert Redford, Jr., to Martha W. and Charles Robert Redford Sr. in Santa Monica, California. He is of Scottish-Irish ancestry and during his childhood, his family moved to Van Nuys, California, where he studied at Van Nuys High School. He was never brilliant academically and was interested in arts and sports. After high school, he enrolled in the University of Colorado and was a member of the Kappa Sigma guild. He traveled around Europe and later studied painting at Pratt Institute and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Brooklyn and New York City respectively. ----------------- Career His acting career took off in the 50s and he starred in a number of shows including ‘Perry Mason’, ‘Alfred Hitchcock Presents’, ‘Route 66’, ‘Playhouse 90’, ‘The Twilight Zone’ and many more. In 1960, he starred as a mentally unsteady man in ‘Breakdown’, one of the episodes of ‘Rescue 8’, a high-adrenaline series. He made his film debut with ‘War Hunt’ in 1962, but he didn’t gain the recognition he expected. He went back to acting for television shows and was last seen on television in an ABC medical drama series, ‘Breaking Point’ on the 7th of October, 1963. He soon decided to broaden his horizons and tried his hand at theatre. He was given small roles in ‘Tall Story’, ‘Sunday in New York’ and ‘Barefoot in the Park’. His all-American good looks, coupled with extraordinary talent, landed him his first major role in the film adaption of ‘Barefoot in the Park’, along with renowned actress, Jane Fonda. In 1969, he was cast in the western classic, ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’, which catapulted him to fame and earned him immense recognition. Not pigeonholed in the ‘pretty-boy’ image, he sought more challenging projects and oozed immense sex appeal on-screen in ‘Downhill Racer’ and ‘Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here’, both of which were released in 1969. He soon became extremely involved in environmental activism and even received death threats for his ‘environment-friendly’ developments in the United States. Undeterred by such trivialities, he persisted with his efforts. At the same time his career thrived with movies like ‘The Way We Were’ and ‘The Sting’ both which released in 1973. He experimented with more challenging roles and scored another hit at the box-office with his performance in the political drama, ‘All the President’s Men’, in 1976. --------------------- READ MORE: https://www.thefamouspeople.com/profiles/charles-robert-redford-jr-2721.php #RobertRedford

In his way the 83 year old actor, producer and director has also made a mark on Golden Globe history with five wins in four categories – although curiously none of them Best Actor (bonus points for best guesses: trivia answer here: https://www.goldenglobes.com/person/robert-redford). After a career spanning six decades which has also seen him establish the Sundance Institute and the most important festival in the US, Redford has announced his retirement from acting (although he has subsequently appeared to retract the finality of that decision). Whether it is his last on-screen appearance or not, his role in David Lowery’s The Old Man and the Gun is reason to celebrate the continuing work of one of Hollywood’s greats. The HFPA’ Paz Mata asked him why he was attracted to this particular misfit. Hollywood legend Robert Redford announces he's retiring from acting aged 81 - Daily News #Hollywood, #legendRobertRedford, #announces, #retiring, #from, #acting, #aged, #81 /form The sun is finally setting on the Sundance Kid – as actor Robert Redford announces that he is finally ready to retire at the age of 81. He confirmed today that he is making good on a vow he made two years ago not to appear in front of the camera again after completing his final movie The Old Man & The Gun, released next month. He said: “Never say never but I pretty well concluded this would be it for me in terms of acting, and [I’ll] move towards retirement after this ’cause I’ve been doing it since I was 21.” He did not rule out directing again. “We’ll see about that,” he said. Redford is one of the most widely admired Hollywood stars of his generation, with iconic roles including Bob Woodward in All the President’s Men and the title role in The Great Gatsby. He is also celebrated for his fierce commitment to environmental causes, independent film-making, and his Sundance Film Festival. His big break came in 1967 in Barefoot in the Park, starring opposite Jane Fonda. She once said of him: “I was so in love with Bob. “Nothing ever happened between us but he was fabulous to kiss. I couldn’t wait for the cuddling scenes [but] he doesn’t like to do love scenes.” Read More Top Stories from Mirror Online When producers began to cast 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, they wanted a co-star as established as leading man Paul Newman. Warren Beatty, Marlon Brando, Jack Lemmon and James Coburn were all considered but Newman’s wife Joanne Woodward urged him to look at Redford. Redford said: “When the studio didn’t want me for the film he stood up for me. I don’t know how many people would have done that.” The friendship became one of Hollywood’s most enduring. Over the years they took on brotherly characters. “We both got to know each other’s flaws pretty well,” Redford said. “We just played them to the hilt and we’d try to trick each other.” Redford recalled a practical joke he played on Newman, to taunt his “obsession” with motor racing. He said: “For his birthday, I happened to find a trashed Porsche and I had them wrap it up and leave it on his kitchen back step, wrapped in paper with a ribbon around it, that said ‘Happy 50th’.” Newman later returned it to Redford as a surprise package in his living room. Redford then turned it into a garden sculpture, which he left in Newman’s yard. Redford went on to land roles in films such as The Way We Were, A Bridge Too Far, Out of Africa and Indecent Proposal. But he hates watching himself on screen, and only approved of his performance in 1973 hit The Sting, which he did not see until 2004. Redford has always insisted on doing his own stunts – even aged 76 as he filmed 2013 ocean adventure All Is Lost. But he would pay the stunt guild, so as not to put stuntmen out of work. The Watergate scandal became his biggest fascination in the early 1970s. Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein were still in the middle of their years-long investigation when Redford
