I Stood Up to Racist Mean Girls

By Mareeha | Ready to "wear it out loud?” Merch store open, SHOP NOW: http://bit.ly/storybooth-merch | Subscribe: http://bit.ly/sub2storybooth | Record your story @ https://storybooth.com or our iPhone app for a chance to get animated. Comment, like, share this story. Back in 5th and 6th Grade, at Mareeha's school, everyone was just friends with everyone. There were students and kids of every color, ethnicity, from every culture, and all religions, and nobody cared - they all played together and they were all friends. Mareeha had a best friend named Caitlyn - a real best friend forever, and they did everything together. And she also had other friends, best friends too, but maybe just not quite as close as she and Caitlyn were - the two of them had something special. But, when they moved up into higher grades and got older, things began to change. It was like the kids turned meaner, and starting forming cliques, being exclusive and starting to leave people out. Even Mareeha's wider group of friends started acting differently, just meaner and looking down at other kids, not the way they all used to be at all, and it was upsetting. It made Mareeha sad. One day Mareeha and Caitlyn were playing at the park, and one of Mareeha's "other" friends came over to her and told her that she shouldn't play with Caitlyn anymore because she was black. She never considered her her black friend or her African American friends, just her friend, her best friend. This totally confused Mareeha because after all, she herself was brown skinned, but she was scared of these girls who used to be her good friends. There were a bunch of them, and they were kind of mean, and on the other side there was just Mareeha and Caitlyn. Mareeha felt all that peer pressure, and back then at least, well, she didn't have the guts to stand up to them, she just went with the crowd - that seemed like the least scary thing to do. So she did it. She went up to Caitlyn and said "I don't want to be your friend anymore because you're black". She chose popularity vs true friendship. Later, the reality of what she said hit her hard. She was a bigot who made a racist statement to her best friend. She felt so guilty and lonely and bad, because really, Caitlyn was her best friend and she just succumbed to peer pressure in the worst way. After a few days it got to be too much for her, and she went to Caitlyn's house and rang the bell and apologized. She admitted that she was just trying to fit in with the other girls, and it was wrong, and she felt awful about it. Caitlyn accepted Mareeha's apologies - they were best friends again. Later, those other friends, the racist mean girls, came up to her and asked "why are you friends with that black girl Caitlyn again?" and finally, Mareeha had her chance to stand up to them. She told them "no, Caitlyn is my best friend and I don't care what you say!" And that's when the racist mean girls turned on her. Mareeha started getting ganged up on too, bullied, made fun of for being "the brown girl with the black girl." But still, she didn't care. She knew that all that mattered was that in the end she did the right thing, and in the end, had her best friend who was a good person and a perfect friend! It became mean girls versus best friends. Discrimination is a terrible thing but a friendship this strong is a true gift. Their experience together make their friendship stronger. Everyone's got a story. Standing up to Girls bullying

Join our Compassion-Fit Challenge UPDATED WEBSITE: https://mindfulkindfulyouniversity.com/compassion-fit-challenge/ "Circles of Compassion" (Sutter Middle School, Folsom, CA 2014) presents this year-end video project to help inspire others to become more compassion-fit to help stop bullying and to demonstrate standing up to bullying to help break the cycle using our principles of #flipit and getting #compassionfit! This group came up with their own story and choreography to demonstrate how to "flip it" from a negative situation to something positive. It's more than raising awareness of the bullying problem. We find solutions and practice them daily! We will use scenarios like these to spark discussions on how to stand up to bullying and contribute to more kindness in our world beginning with our world at home and school! This theme was “it’s cool to care”. It's not easy to stand up in the face of losing "friends". Yet, what kind of friends do you want? Ones that put you down or lift you up? Teens face many pressures and challenges in life with much of it learning how to navigate relationships with others in school, including relationships which become clouded with bullying and peer abuse. Despite the prevalence of bullying, there are many people who are good, compassionate, and nonviolent at heart. The focus of "Circles of Compassion" social-emotional learning and bullying prevention program is to inspire teen leaders to help cultivate and practice more compassion in their day to day experiences and practices with their peers to experience more happiness and peace in relationships and in life. I Survived Extreme Bullying - Suede Brooks - storybooth Stars

03:35
By Suede Brooks | HEY storyboothers! WE NEED YOUR HELP! You can help us win the 2019 People's Voice Award, after all, you're the people. Go to - https://wbby.co/vote-vid49 and VOTE FOR STORYBOOTH! Do you all know who Suede Brooks is? If you don't, you should, and if you hadn't, you will, because Suede is an amazing young woman with a huge heart and deep soul who has overcome tons of challenges to start her journey as a rising star - all the way to the very top! She's a social media influencer, a Vlogger, a fashion & beauty enthusiast and expert, a model, and a seriously powerful activist for anti-bullying. And, all of this just as she turns the corner on 18 years old. But, getting to where she is now wasn't easy, especially given where she started. When Suede was eleven years old she was severely bullied - not mildly, or sometimes, or for a few weeks, but really and truly bullied in the worst ways. Every single day she would wake up in fear, not wanting to get out of bed, afraid for what the day at school would bring, who was going to pick on her, how badly would she get bullied, would her classmates try to beat her up? Not only was she scared about what each day at school would bring, but also, and simply, that it would just never stop - to her, there was no real end in sight. But when she was twelve years old everything got even more intense, more real, and more severe. The bullying got to the point where Suede had to file restraining orders on kids at school, and law suits against others, just to protect herself. Her feelings were being truly crushed by these mean kids at school, and at the end of the day, she needed to do whatever was necessary to protect those internal feelings - of self worth and confidence and calm - or else risk her very life. Things had escalated to the point where she was so unhappy and alone feeling that she would lock herself in her room for twelve hours a day, not eating or drinking, not talking to her mom and dad, and just sitting in her sadness. This behavior didn't help and eventually, because she was feeling so awful about her life, and her self, she stopped taking care of herself, and even began to hurt herself in real ways. She became so self conscious and fearful - she didn't want anyone to see her, didn't want anyone to talk to her or even look at her. She felt overwhelmed and intimidated by everything and everyone. Even when she could avoid the bullying on any given day, still, these dark feelings stayed with her. With nothing else to do, and tired of just wallowing, she started making YouTube videos, and she liked it. She mad her first and posted it, then her second, third, fourth, and so on, and, to her surprise, people really liked it. She started gaining subscribers and people began coming back and getting familiar with her. It was an escape for her, but there was more in it than that. When subscribers and viewers found out she was only fourteen, that's when her young audience really took off - she was becoming recognized, and people were listening to her. She realized she had a voice, and once she saw that she also realized that she had a point of view, an important one. And, she also started earning money from her videos, which was really empowering. Suede realized then that she could do much more than just earn a living on social media and YouTube, she could tell her story so that other young girls and boys, and the LGBTQ community know that they too can have a voice, and that people will listen! Suede has launched a popular Instagram channel, her YouTube channel is growing fast, and she's a successful model and voice for change. She doesn't have solutions for bullying, but she dose know that all those who have been bullied must use their stories and experiences and voices to help others. Suede has learned that the only way to light up a dark room is to strike a match - you cannot remove the darkness in any other way than to bring in the light. Go check out Suede's amazing YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/user/MSFTxGYPSY/ And her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/suedebrooks/ If you're ready to take a stand against bullying, visit http://www.boo2bullying.org/ Inquiries for Suede Brooks, please contact [email protected] _____ What's your story? storybooth wants to hear it! A Message to Bullies

02:58
When most of us think of bullying or abuse, we often think of it in a physical way. We teach children that sticks and stones may break our bones but words may never hurt us. But is that true? We all know it isn't. Most of the time, words hurt the most and leave wounds that take years to heal. In this video, I share this simple truth and encourage you to be mindful of the words you use. Don't forget to like, comment and SUBSCRIBE! https://goo.gl/3bBv52 For more inspirational videos, watch: A Powerful Story About Life https://goo.gl/VUYG3P Anger Eating Monster https://goo.gl/bK2UtR The SHOCKING Meaning of Row Row Row Your Boat https://goo.gl/k9KJaK Keep in touch with me around the web for more inspiring content. https://www.instagram.com/prince_ea/ http://www.facebook.com/princeea http://www.twitter.com/PrinceEa // @PrinceEa https://soundcloud.com/prince-ea Get Exclusive Videos, Discounts, and Updates here: http://princeea.com/exclusive Transcript: Sticks and stones break OUR bones but words can never hurt me. Wrong. There’s a story of a famous major league baseball player who was speaking to inmates in a prison. One of the inmates asked him: “How did you become a professional ballplayer sir?” To which he said…… Ya know, I think it started when I was a boy. I'd play catch with my dad and he would always say, "Ya keep throwing the ball like that son and you'll end up in the Major Leagues one day! You keep swinging the bat like that you’ll end up in the major leagues one day" And here I am, a professional ballplayer. The room became quiet. And then The inmate who had asked the question said, "Ya know The same thing happened to me…..When I was a boy, my father told me that I was good for nothing and that one day I would end up in prison. And here ……..I am." Sticks and stones CAN break my bones but words can never hurt me. Wrong! Words can cut deeper and fester longer than any sword known to man. I still haven’t forgotten what they told me as a kid…the teasing, the insecurities that it created, have you?? Consider the story of a little girl, she's in the grocery store with her mother and she drops a bottle of milk onto the floor breaking it….the mother says, "You stupid child, why did you do that?" Consider the story of another little girl, She's in the grocery store with her mother. She drops a bottle of milk onto the floor breaking it…. and The mother says, "you stupid child why did you do that?" Consider the story of another little girl who's in the grocery store with her mother. She drops a bottle of milk onto the floor breaking it and this mother says, "That was a very stupid thing you did" WHICH CHILD DO YOU THINK WILL GROW UP WITH A HEALTHIER SELF IMAGE AND MORE SELF CONFIDENCE? The one who was called stupid or the ones who’s action was called stupid? It is important to be mindful of the words that we use with our friends, our families our loved ones and strangers. BECAUSE……. Sticks and Stones CAN break our bones………. but words can break our hearts, and if you’re not careful, they can shatter our dreams

She's caught between two friends: there's her friend Brooke, with her giggling group of cool girls. And then there is her friend Rebecca, whose status with the "in crowd" is tenuous and provisional at best -- or nonexistent at worst. Director Abigail Greenwood and writer/producer Kate Prior's honest, emotionally engrossing drama looks at the social politics that rise up among young adolescents, just at the stage in life where children begin to individuate and form identities of their own. Part of this psychological work is defining one's self socially, but when the politics of being a "cool kid" begin to bubble up, it often reveals aspects of a burgeoning self that may surprise and even disappoint ourselves. We may give lip service to the idea of "being yourself," but in the face of powerful peer pressure, authenticity is much harder to practice. Greenwood's film captures this tension beautifully, rendering the story with wonderfully adroit performances, especially between the two leads, Sasha Dingle-Bell and Astrid Lewis. One character can navigate with the in-crowd, but the other doesn't, and while their connection is genuine, it suffers as a result of the social terrain the girls exist within. Their story is captured in beautifully subtle camerawork, which carefully charts the unspoken struggles and fissures that begin to pull at the girls' friendship. The film floats along the girls' lives and often feels like a documentary. Combined with the tense but understated score, the film has the feel of wistful, melancholy memory, without being too nostalgic or heavy. Bullying is a hot topic, but the short offers a well-crafted, beautifully observed take on the issue. With its careful build-up and intelligent writing, the story feels gentle at first, but the climax has the force of devastation. The final looks of betrayal may be rendered in silence, but their pain speaks louder than words. By taking us into the emotional lives of young girls with respect, care and sensitivity, "Eleven" shows viewers how seemingly "innocent" practical jokes from one perspective can destroy the emergence sense of another's self and strength at such a perilous age. "Eleven" shows how this is both understandable and even "logical" when it comes to the social politics of this age -- as well as the terrible costs it enacts on both sides of the line. My Best Friend Turned Out To Be A Mean Girl

By Grace | Ready to "wear it out loud?” Merch store open, SHOP NOW: http://bit.ly/storybooth-merch | Subscribe: http://bit.ly/sub2storybooth | Record your story @ https://storybooth.com or our iPhone app for a chance to get animated. Comment, like, share this story. Grace is a girl from England living in a foreign country, the island of Cyprus, during middle school. As a foreigner, she had some difficulty making friends in school at first because she was so different from the other kids in her classes. Then she met another British girl named Bethany. Bethany was also not like the other students because she too was from England. She was nice and immediately offered to introduce her to other people including Amy and Nicolas. They quickly became friends, best friends, BFFs, spending lots of time together doing all the things that best friends do. After a few years, they were all still close as ever. Best friends for life! So it seemed. Grace began to realize that Amy was not as good a fiend and she thought she was. For a long time, Amy would insult Grace, calling her overweight, saying she was not pretty and her clothes were gross. Those insults hurt her a lot. Grace would go home and cry in her room on her bed. Worst of all, is that she wouldn't eat because Amy called her overweight. She started developing an eating disorder, lost weight which went of for a long time all because of how Amy would insult her constantly. Grace eventually began to talk with her mother and parents about the situation. He mom noticed that she was sad, angry, losing mire and more weight and was not healthy. These conversations and her mum's support helped her to realize and see that she needed to confront Amy. Mom's are like that, giving you some great encouragement. So that's exactly what Grace did. She confronted Amy asking her why she was so mean all the time. Why was she such a mean girl? "Why are you so me to us and why do you always insult us?" She asked Amy. Amy responded as if Grace and Nicholas were crazy, or being babies and in responded ended up insulting her, calling her an insult yet again. That last insult helped Grace definitively realize that Amy was NOT a good friend and that all these years since meeting her in middle school, well into high school, Grace had been "under her spell" so to speak, allowing Amy to continue to get worse and worse in terms of insulting and belittling she and Nicholas. And Grace had finally had enough of it. So, she broke off her friendship with Amy, distancing herself from the toxic and mean words Amy would use all the time. Amy denied it all of course, and simply said "Whatever". Grace stayed with her friend Nicolas and eventually went home to find that Amy had blocked her from all social media. When Grace retuned to school the next day, Bethany revealed to her that Amy had betrayed her by telling other students, teachers and kids that Grace was having a tough time with some personal issues and emotional stuff and was acting like a fool. She was spreading rumors now, one of the biggest acts of betrayal a friend can do. She was so angry and mad. But, she never said anything in order to not look like a bad person. Instead she would take the high road and ignore it. That worked and now Grace is really happy with her two best friends Bethany and Nicholas, and while she sometimes wishes this hadn't happened with Amy, and they were still friends because they really didi have fun together. But Grace clearly realized that if a person you spend so much time with and shard experiences with constantly insults you even when you've confronted them and asked them to stop, what kind of friendship can that be? Being horrible to someone is not a healthy way to build a true relationship and lifelong friendship. - - - We love this true story. What's your story? storybooth wants to hear it!
