IELTS Speaking Test | CLOTHES & FASHION - IELTS Sample Speaking Test 8.0+ with Tape Script Examiner: Good morning, what’s your full name, please? Candidate: My full name is Kaisy Nguyen. E: Could you please give me your ID card? C: Here it is. E: Nice to meet you, my name is…, and I come from… I’ll begin by asking you some questions about yourself. Candidate: Yeap. Part 1 E: What clothes do you like to wear? C: I like to mix T-shirt with Jeans, especially for the casual style. It’s really fashionable and convenient. E: What kinds of clothes do you dislike? C: Honestly, I don’t wear the skirt which is too tight and too short. It makes me feel like it needs letting out and letting down. E: What does your family think about the clothes that you wear? C: I suppose that each of us has the different eye for fashion and that’s the reason why my family respects my style. E: Are clothes and fashions important to you? C: I have to confess that I take pride in my appearance, so I’ve never regretted spending a lot of money for it. Part 2 E: Thank you very much. Let’s move on cue card topic. Here’s the question: Describe the types of clothes you prefer to wear You should say: What the clothes look like When you prefer to wear them Where you like to buy them And explain why you like wearing these clothes I’d like you to speak on this topic in 2 minutes. Before that, you have 1 minute to prepare. And here’s some paper and pen for you to make some notes if you wish. …1 minute… Well, could you please begin. Well, as I’ve mentioned before, I like to mix T-shirt with Jeans. It’s really fashionable and convenient, which I prefer to dress for the casual occasion. Although this style is simple, this is one of the timeless fashions in the world that likes a must-have item for fashion lovers. Moreover, I guess that it’s easy to get a makeover with T-shirt and Jean, you always look young and smart. In detail, when I need to go out with my family and friends, this style is absolutely my first choice. Indeed, it’s faster and comfortable when I just have to put on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. Especially, I have to confess that I’m actually a shopaholic so I always go crazy with a brand-new T-shirt and Jean for each season. When I see things I love, I’ll immediately buy them, it not depends on where I like to buy. Sometimes I get in Mango store when I’m in a shopping mall and other times maybe while I’m in a supermarket, I have a quick look and see if there’s anything that catches my eye. Moreover, online shopping is my favorite activity as well, I prefer free size so it’s easier, cheaper and safer to buy via the Internet. I suppose that I even can save me a lot of time too. Besides, everyone says that I look good in this style, therefore, I spend a lot of money like a slave for fashion. For T-shirt and jean, for each occasion, I have different ways of the makeover. I always feel that with this style, I’m so trendy and smart. In addition, I suppose that I have an eye for color so, with my T-shirt and jean collection, I still know how to wear it suitable for the particular event. As a woman, I love to dress up and my choice is always T-shirt and jean. Part 3 E: Thank you very much. Let’s move on to discussion topic related to Fashion&Clothes. E: How different are the clothes people wear now compared to ten years ago? C: I suppose that everything has change swiftly since 10 years ago, especially in fashion. There are a variety of brand-new styles that the previous generations have never known before, such as unisex or cosplay etc. However, there are still some styles that are always popular and fashionable like vintage or T-shirt and Jean, which are as same as the last 10 years. E: Compare the materials and fashions of today's clothing with those of the past C: In my opinion, there are more and more materials and fashions were born to meet the need of modern people. For examples, suede, denim etc, they are the latest and the hottest trends in recently. Meanwhile, linen was one of the most trendy materials in the past. Moreover, people in modern society have a tendency to choose the sexy style, instead of vintage style in the past. February IELTS speaking test questions & answers: http://ieltsspeakingquestions.blogspot.com/2016/02/clothing-you-received-as-a-gift-recently.html Questions about: job, work, computers, learning, future plans, clothes, gifts, fashion, designer clothes, young people, old people, trendy clothes, uniforms How to pass the IELTS Speaking Test | Part 3 Top tips on how to respond to Part 3 questions in the IELTS speaking test In section 3 of the IELTS speaking test, the IELTS examiner asks you some additional questions (follow up questions) related to the topic you speak about in Part 2 of the test (the Cue Card Topic). The time allowance for Part 3 in the IELTS test is 4 to 5 minutes. How many questions you are asked will depend on the length of the answers you give to each question – around 40 seconds per question is a good guide. The format of the questions in part 3 is as follows: Part 3 consists of two main questions (Q1 and Q2), and each main question has three sub questions. Time management is important in this section of the test because if you spend 4 minutes answering the first question and the three sub questions – you will not be asked the second main question (Q2) and sub questions. Why is this important? Because instead of responding to six questions in total – you will respond to only three. The IELTS examiner only allows for four minutes in total. Therefore, if you speak for four minutes in response to Q1 – you will have no more time available to try and answer any other questions. It’s possible that some of the other questions provide a better opportunity for you to talk. For some test takers, it might be easier to give shorter answers (40 seconds) and attempt to answer all six questions. Important: Part 3 questions are related to the topic you talk about in Part 2 of the IELTS speaking test. This means that if you receive a Part 2 Cue Card Topic about food, for example, then the Part3 questions will also be related to food, in general. Part 3 Question Examples: We have been discussing a popular type of food in your country, and now I’d like to ask some more questions about this subject in general. Question 1 Firstly, I would like to discuss what things make a specific kind or style of food become popular in a country. Can you suggest some things which make a certain type of food popular? • Which types of food are the most popular in your country? • Why do you think these particular types of food are the most popular? • Do you think that other types of food might be popular in the future? Question 2 Now, let’s continue and talk about national variations in styles of food. Clothes are part of our everyday life. In this easy vocabulary lesson, you will learn how to talk about clothing, how to pay compliments about someone’s outfit, and what dress codes such as "smart casual", "black tie", and "Sunday best" mean. Boring vocabulary is so last season, so put your glad rags on, and watch this lesson to learn some exciting new words. You will be looking smart in no time. http://www.engvid.com/english-vocabulary-clothes/ TRANSCRIPT Hello, and welcome back to EngVid. You've found the right place to learn English. Today, we're going to be learning to speak about clothes, about choosing the right clothes, giving compliments, the names of different styles of clothing. So first things first, instructions. If you're holding a party, you might tell them to arrive in a particular type of clothing. You might say, "Dress up." Okay? You expect them to dress up. You'll maybe say to the women to wear skirts and maybe even say to the guys, "Wear a tie." Okay? If it's a smart, smart occasion. "Vamp it up!" is a bit of a party term. If you're a girl and you're inviting other girls to come and party with you, "Vamp it up." You expect mascara and make up, etc. Obviously not for the guys. Don't worry. "Put your glad rags on!" This is another phrase about partying. Kind of put your, sort of, retro flares on and your, kind of, checked shirts. You're going out for a night on the town. Now, I know we've got some viewers who live in Russia. You might want to "wrap up warm". I'm going to Norway this weekend, and I'll certainly be wrapping up warm. Or you could just say, "Wear a shirt and tie" or, "Put on a colourful jacket." Maybe you're having a fancy dress, okay? "Fancy dress" is where we wear -- maybe you dress up as Mr. Men or as superheroes. "Fancy dress" is a particular type of character party. Good. Other types of clothing, "Sunday best". You go to church, and you have a nice Sunday lunch. You'd ask them to put on their "Sunday best", their best clothes for a Sunday. If it's a, kind of, smart, sort of, business networking -- perhaps at someone's house -- maybe "smart casual", respectable clothing. "Evening wear" is a little bit more smart, okay? "Evening wear", kind of, suits, shirts, ties, maybe "black tie". That would suggest a bow tie. Or in America, you call that "tuxedos", okay? Or "professional work attire". That's, kind of, the kind of clothes that you would go to the office in. Now, I'm going to be going to a party this evening, so I'll just go and spruce up. See you in a little bit. So I'm ready for my party. I've put my after-shave on. And, wow. Look at her. She's looking pretty good. I need to think of some compliments, some nice things to say about the clothes she's wearing. A nice simple one, I could say, "Great outfit." Or, "You're looking great." Now, if I'm talking just about the clothes, I could say, "That -- those trousers go really well with the top you're wearing." Or, "It works. It really works with your hair, the hair colour and trousers." Or, "The top, it just so suits your particular eye type, your eye colour." So you can pair the colours of their hair and their eyes." Or you could just say, "That really suits you." Okay? "Suits" is the same word as a business suit. You can use it as a verb as well. "It really suits you." Now, some more compliments. You can use "so" as a, sort of, substitute for "very". So I could say, "You're looking so smart." Or, "You're looking so elegant, so graceful, so stylish." Or, "You're looking dapper." "Dapper" is more often used about men than it is about girls. But it's a great adjective for saying that you're looking good. Now, some nasty things to say about what someone's wearing, some criticisms. "I am sorry, but those colours just don't work on you" or, "Those colours, they don't really work very well with you. They don't suit you." Okay? Or if I just don't think their clothes balance with them, I could say, "You don't really pull that off." Like, if I were wearing a yellow checked suit with a pink spotted shirt, my wife would say to me, "Benjamin, you can't really pull that one off." Okay. Now, if you're very knowledgeable about fashion, you could say, "That's a bit last season." Okay? "Season." We've, you know, spring, summer, autumn, winter. And fashions, you have spring fashions, summer fashions. "A bit last season. The clothes you are wearing are a bit 2012." Now, particular things with the clothes. If the colour is a bit faded -- can you all see my trousers? The colour, it's a bit faded. Okay? It's a bit torn. Can you see here? My trousers, they're torn. I jumped over a fence to get into a festival, and now, they're torn. Okay? "Ripped." It's the same thing.

JULY IELTS Qs&As: http://ieltsspeakingquestions.blogspot.com/2018/07/ielts-outdoor-activities-travel-older.html speaking test topics My favourite clothes are quite simple; jeans and a T-shirt. Typically blue jeans, but I also have a couple of pairs of black jeans too. As for the T-shirts, I prefer black, dark grey or different shades of blue, but I’m not that keen on light blue as a colour. My taste overall in clothes is simple – I’m not big on colours, stripes or checks when it comes to what I like to wear. I’m lucky I guess because I get to wear my favourite clothes almost every day. I work from home so I can wear pretty much what I want most days. Only sometimes, if I have to attend a meeting or meet clients for the first time, do I have to really think about dressing up a bit, you know, maybe wearing a formal shirt and pants. But normally I can wear jeans and T-shirt when I’m working on my own. I like wearing a T-shirt and jeans simply because I don’t have to press them and they are okay for wearing most places so they’re really flexible. They’re also tremendously comfortable and easy to wear, no buttons to worry about or anything like that, so it’s quick to get dressed in the morning and they’re also super easy to wash and they dry quickly, so laundry is nice and easy. I’ve worn shirts and suits and other types of clothes in the past, but wearing jeans and a T-shirt is just so easy, comfortable and practical that it’s hard to beat them. I usually wear a short-sleeved T-shirt and in the winter I might go for long-sleeved ones. I have some with crew-necks and v-necks, and really, that’s enough variety for me personally. I’m not so keen on logos or printed T-shirts – I like them plain. The style sometimes changes, in line with current trends, but they’ve always been my favourite clothes ever since I can remember. Good luck with your IELTS Speaking Test!

I still remember the first time we got to know each otherin the first year meeting, when I was immediately attracted by her beautiful face with knowledge offashion styles and brands, which seemed to be freshto me at that time. Regardingher clothing items, she prefers the modern style so most of the time, casual clothes such as T-shirts, jeans and sneakers are her choice. However, she never fails to look smart onspecial occasions. She can mix and match a longdress withhighheels to be feminine, orsometimes a black skirt with a leather jacketcan be combined for a rock-chick feel. Hi everyone! This is a topic that I've been thinking about a little bit recently and I wanted to share my thoughts with you. If you've got anything to add, feel free to tell me about it! I think that what inspires us as people and our style is a really interesting topic, because inspiration is all around us! it often comes from the groups that we exist in - whether that's geographical, identity-based (like the LGBT community), or online. And I think that we have to lift each other up within these groups! The exhibition I mentioned is called Queer Looks and is part of Brighton Museum's Wear It Out project, celebrating 50 years since the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK. Queer Looks is focused on the dress of LGBTQ+ people in Brighton and Sussex! It opens next Summer!! Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elliemedhurst/ Stay Fabulous! xoxoxoxoxo

#IELTSSpeakingPart2 Describe an item of clothing that was bought for you You should say: what it was who bought it what it looked like why it was bought for you and explain how you felt about this item of clothing. ANSWER: I would like to describe a coat my parents gave me as a present on my 18th birthday. I must say that it is really smart and exactly to my liking. The coat is made of cotton only and by a Vietnamese clothes brand. It is a kneelength black coat, which was in fashion at that time. What I like the most is that there are two deep side pockets, so in winter, I always put my hands into those pockets to avoid the cold. Besides, I can button the coat from top to bottom and it’s also got a decorative waist belt. I am so fond of this coat that I usually wear it every winter. It fits me perfectly and makes me feel comfortable and warm, no matter how cold the weather is. I keep myself warm by wearing the coat with jeans and boots, which match it well. In fact, I have never thought whether it will be out of fashion. As this coat is a gift from my parents, I treasure it a lot and – for sure – I will keep wearing this coat in the future. VOCABULARY: – really smart: [adjective] very clean, neat and attractive. Example: If you want to look good on special social occasions, or even at work, it is important to dress in really smart clothes. – to my liking: [expression] suitable, and how somebody likes something. Example: The smart way in which she has decorated my house is exactly to my liking. – button the coat: [verbal phrase] fasten the coat with buttons. Example: Stepping outside my warm house, I quickly buttoned the coat which I was wearing to try and keep warm. – decorative: [adjective] intended to look attractive, because of the way in which it is decorated. Example: Many tourists visit the Temple of Literature because of the many decorative sculptures which they can see there. – fond of: [expression] finding something pleasant or enjoyable, especially something that you have liked or enjoyed for a long time. Example: My uncle is an excellent musician, and he is very fond of his hobby. – match: [verb] if things match each other, they have the same colour or style and therefore look attractive together. Example: None of these shoes match my jeans – they are all very different and they are too formal. – treasure: [verb] have or keep something that you love and that is very valuable to you. Example: Thank you for e-mailing the photos. They are superb and I will always treasure them and the memories that they bring ======================================================== IELTS Speaking Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I2RrdaNQ-Y&list=PLeRrd9DWultmsSe1JWdqjytDsCuPv_qve Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNT_ES66blrM8iVxy75PtDQ Google Plus: https://plus.google.com/117450599224236955994
