This also explains about how to create an user and grant a role to that user. In this case, the role granted is 'dba'. The following things happen in this Oracle Database Tutorial. * We invoke SQLPLUS using the CMD utility which came with Windows 7 (Just click START in your Windows 7 and type CMD in the field which is immediately above the START button. A CMD window will open) * We also invoke SQLPLUS using the program group in which Oracle has been installed. * We also invoke Database Control * We then create a user. * And we assign a password to that user. * Using those (username and password) we are able to connect to the Oracle Database.

Step 1: Go to dbhome --- hostname_SID --- Sysman --- Config --- open emd.properties in notepad and set the value agentTZRegion=+06:00 to the value of your timezone and click save. You can also do it using export and time zone reset commands. Step 2: ALTER DATABASE SET TIME_ZONE='+06:00'; according to your time zone. You can check DB TIME Zone using " select dbtimezone from dual ; ". Step 3: In step 2 if you get the error "ORA-30079: cannot alter database timezone when database has TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE columns" then please FOLLOW following steps SQL--- select count (*) from dba_tab_columns 2 where data_type like 'TIMESTAMP%WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE' ; COUNT(*) 1 In this case there is only one table. The owner and name can be determined by: SQL--- select owner, table_name from dba_tab_columns 2 where data_type like 'TIMESTAMP%WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE'; OWNER TABLE_NAME ------------------------------ OE ORDERS SQL--- desc oe.orders ; Name Null? Type -------- ORDER_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(12) ORDER_DATE NOT NULL TIMESTAMP(6) WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE ORDER_MODE VARCHAR2(Cool CUSTOMER_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(6) ORDER_STATUS NUMBER(2) ORDER_TOTAL NUMBER(8,2) SALES_REP_ID NUMBER(6) PROMOTION_ID NUMBER(6) This oe.orders is just a table in the example schema of OE so this colums can be dropped. So please dont install sample schemas if you dont need them. SQL--- alter table OE.ORDERS drop column ORDER_DATE ; Table altered. Now the Time Zone can be altered using above command. Step 4: Also check the value of " SELECT SESSIONTIMEZONE FROM DUAL; " and if the value differs from os time zone, db time zone , emd.properties / agent time zone then also set it according to your timezone but I believe it always gives the OS time zone. Step 5: Stop and Restart all Services and check that Oracle DBConsole service is running or not and if not running then start from command prompt " emctl start dbconsole" . https://hostname:1158/em/

ORACLE DBA Startup Stages

02:33
The Startup 'nomount' Stage When you issue the startup command, the first thing the database will do is enter the nomount stage. During the nomount stage, Oracle first opens and reads the initialization parameter file 'init.ora' to see how the database is configured. For example, the sizes of all of the memory areas in Oracle are defined within the parameter file. After the parameter file is accessed, the memory areas associated with the database instance are allocated. Also, during the nomount stage, the Oracle background processes are started. Together, we call these processes and the associated allocated memory the Oracle instance. Once the instance has started successfully, the database is considered to be in the nomount stage. If you issue the startup command, then Oracle will automatically move onto the next stage of the startup, the mount stage. Starting the Oracle Instance 'Nomount Stage' There are some types of Oracle recovery operations that require the database to be in nomount stage. When this is the case, you need to issue a special startup command: startup nomount, as seen in this example: startup nomount The Mount Stage When the startup command enters the mount stage, it opens and reads the control file. The control file is a binary file that tracks important database information, such as the location of the database datafiles. In the mount stage, Oracle determines the location of the datafiles, but does not yet open them. Once the datafile locations have been identified, the database is ready to be opened. Mounting the Database Some forms of recovery require that the database be opened in mount stage. To put the database in mount stage, use the startup mount command as seen here: startup mount If you have already started the database instance with the startup nomount command, you might change it from the nomount to mount startup stage using the alter database command: alter database mount; The Open Oracle startup Stage The last startup step for an Oracle database is the open stage. When Oracle opens the database, it accesses all of the datafiles associated with the database. Once it has accessed the database datafiles, Oracle makes sure that all of the database datafiles are consistent. Opening the Oracle Database To open the database, you can just use the startup command as seen in this example startup If the database is mounted, you can open it with the alter database open command as seen in this example: alter database open;

I am putting my whole effort in making this series a learn-able one for beginners who i assume dont have any idea about this . In this video the complete installation process of Oracle Database 11g R2 is shown . How to Set Environment Variables in Windows

01:27
Follow this step by step tutorial to learn how to set environment variables from system settings in the windows operating system. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ In this tutorial, you will learn how to set environment variables in windows. Operating systems require environment variables as settings and configurations for several processes. Although these variables are automatically defined or initialized during the installation of the system or specific software, in windows, to set environment variables manually is not a difficult task. That's because windows allows us to manually add, remove or edit environment variables through system settings according to our requirements. Step # 1 -- Opening environment variables In windows, to set environmental variables, you can take two paths. Either we can go to control panel, then access the system security option, and then the system option. Or we can simply right click on My Computer and select its properties. Once we are in the system window, select the advanced system settings from the list on the left side. A new window will pop up. Over here, click on the environment variables button near the bottom of this window and you can now access the Windows environment variables. Step # 2 -- Adding a variable In this window there are two sets of environment variables, one is the "user variables", and the other is the "system variables". Choose the new button in the user variables section to open the "define a new variable" dialog window. Over here, you will be required to define the variable name as anything you wish to set, such as temporary and then define its value as the path to the directory. With that done, let's complete this process by pressing OK. Your new environment variable has been created now. Step # 3 -- Editing and removing a variable To edit an environment variable, click on it, and then click on the edit button to open a dialog window. Here we can edit the name and value of the variable. Likewise to remove an environment variable, simply click on the variable and then click on the delete button. Once all the definitions are complete, close the window and restart your computer to allow the operating system to load these settings on boot. And that's basically all you need to know for how to set environment variables in windows.

Create new database (name: ACMEDW), unlock OWBSYS use and apply password-123456 in Oracle 11g

20:18
Creating the database We can install a new database using Database Configuration Assistant 1. The first step is to specify what action to take. Since we do not have a database created, we'll select the Create a Database option in Step 1. 2. This step will offer the following three options for a database template to select:  General Purpose or Transaction Processing  Custom Database  Data Warehouse We are going to choose the Data Warehouse option for our purposes 3. This step of the database creation will ask for a database name. Since we're creating this database for the data warehouse of ACME Toys and Gizmos Company, we'll choose a name that reflects this—ACME for the company name and DW for data warehouse, resulting in a database name of ACMEDW. As the database name is typed in, the SID (or Oracle System Identifier) is automatically filled in to match it. 4. This step of the database creation process asks whether we want to configure Enterprise Manager. The box is checked by default and leave it as is. 5. On this screen (step 5) we can set the database passwords on the system accounts using a different one for each account, or by choosing one password for all four. We're going to set a single password on all four, but for added security in a production environment, it is a good idea to make a different password for each. Click on the option to Use the Same Administrative Password for All Accounts and enter a password. 6. This step is about storage. We'll leave it at the default of File System for storage management. The other two options are for more advanced installations that have greater storage needs. 7. This step is for specifying the locations where database files are to be created. This can be left at the default for simplicity 8. The next screen is for configuring recovery options. We're up to step 8 now. If we were installing a production database, we would want to make sure to use the Flash Recovery option and to Enable 22 WE-IT TUTORILAS PHNO:8097071144/55 Archiving. Flash Recovery is a feature Oracle has implemented in its database to provide a location that is managed by the database. It stores backups and files needed to recover a database in the event of disk failure. With Flash Recovery Area specified, we can recover data that would otherwise be lost in a system failure. 9. 9. This step is where we can have the installation program create some sample schemas in the database for our reference, and specify any custom scripts to run. The text on the screen can be read to decide whether they are needed or not. We don't need either of these for this book, so it doesn't matter which option we choose. 10. The next screen is for Initialization Parameters. These are the settings that are put in place to define various options for the database such as Memory options. 11. The next screen is for security settings. For the purposes of this book and its examples, we'll check the box to Revert to pre-11g security settings since we don't need the additional features. However, for a production environment, it is a good idea to leave the default checked to use Oracle's more advanced security features. 12. This step is automatic maintenance and we'll deselect that option and move on, since we don't need that additional functionality. Automatic Maintenance Tasks are tasks that run in predefined maintenance windows of time to perform various preconfigured maintenance operations on the database. 13. The next step (step 13 of 14) is the Database Storage screen referred to earlier. Here the locations of the pre-built data and control files can be changed if needed. They should be left set to the default for simplicity since this won't be a production database. For a production environment, we would want to consider storing datafiles on separate partitions for performance reasons, and to minimize the impact of disk failures on the running database if something goes wrong. 14. The final step has the following three options, and any or all can be selected for creating the database:  Create the database directly  Save the creation options as a template for later use  Save database creation scripts that can be used later to create the database The Next button is grayed out since this is the last screen. So click on the Finish button to begin creating the database using the selections we've just chosen. It will display a summary screen showing what options it will be using to install with.
