5 Things American Tourists Shouldn't Wear in Europe
Please Note: Young People Wear Many of These Styles Throughout Europe. These tips are geared toward 35+ year old travelers. Thanks for watching! Grab a Wolters World Shirt http://www.woltersworld.com/shop Heading to Europe & Not Sure What to Pack? Here are a few things that my fellow US travelers may want to avoid packing if they are traveling to Europe. 1. Baseball Caps: Europeans in general do not wear baseball caps, especially backwards. You would be better served to wear a more traditional hat. You will see an occasional NY Yankee hat, but why not buy the fancy hat you always wanted instead? 2. Athletic Wear: Europeans tend to wear athletic wear to do sports, not to wear around town. There is a trend of more athleisurewear in Europe, but it is not to the extent that there is in US. 3. Khakis: the omnipresent US male pant choice is not something you will see too often in Europe. Go for colored pants or jeans. If you want khaki like pants wear Chinos instead of Dockers. The pants you will see are a thinner cut or "skinnier" fit than in the US. 4. Oversized US University Sweatshirts. 5. Sport Shoes or High Heals: US sport shoes and white socks are not quite as popular in Europe as they are in the US. You may be better off with Urban Street shoes like Vans instead. Also, women should be careful with high heels as with all the cobblestone it is easy to hurt your ankles. Tips to make local Italian friends on your next trip to Italy
Book a lesson with Italian teacher Stefano on italki here- https://go.italki.com/2Be8EXu Hello everyone! It’s Stefano here and I teach Italian on Italki.com. Today I would like to give you some advice to bond with Italians faster and improve your conversational skills while on vacation in Italy. Let’s get started! Places: let’s talk about a few places you can go to, to easily speak with some Italians. For example go to a bar in the morning. When I say bar I mean the Italian idea of bar that is a sort of coffe shop/café a lot of people go to in the morning to get their “colazione” (breakfast). In the night go to a pub or club. Italians love clubbing and I am sure you’ll fine a lot of people to talk to there! Small talk: I know small talk is pretty embarassing and people tend to avoid it if possible but this could be a good idea to bond with Italians. Even if your Italian is not very good you should still try to say hi and introduce yourself in Italian. Italians will suddenly understand you’re not from Italy but they would really appreciate it and start a conversation with you! Listen to what other people say to each other! I know overhearing is not a nice thing to do but trying to listen to other people’s conversation will really help you to understand how Italians really talk to each other and learn some new words and expressions. And then if you’re brave enough and if the people you’re listening to are talking about a topic you like you could just drop in the conversation! Thanks for watching the video. Don't forget to subscribe to the italki YouTube channel for more tips on learning Italian . Take a lesson with me on italki.com by clicking on my teacher profile link in the description.

The Best & Only Way to See Venice: https://goo.gl/QcJZtj How to Order Pizza in Rome: https://goo.gl/nIwRQv Roma How To: Ordering Coffee https://goo.gl/OlJWHq Hi. Welcome to The Roman Guy How 2 Series. Today, we're going to show you to get the most out of your day trip to Florence. A lot of people refer to Florence as a city, but it has much more of a small village type feel. It's perfect for a day trip because it's centrally located between Milan, Venice, and Rome, and very easy to get to by fast train. It's an hour from Rome, two hours from Venice, and an hour and 40 minutes from Milan. Think of it this way, it's a three-hour car ride from Rome to Florence or a one-hour train ride. Our first stop is Accademia which is about 13 minutes by foot from the main train station. Be sure to RSVP tickets to Accademia to see Michelangelo's David. You can call ahead to get the lowest price or book online with one of our partners. I recommend getting inside by 9:30 AM. Be sure to give yourself at least 30 minutes between your reservation and your train arrival time. It's heavily debated on what Michelangelo's masterpiece is, but David is an amazing work of art with a great story. After David's completion, Michelangelo was asked why he worked so fast. His response was, "I saw an angel trapped in that marble and I carved him until I set him free." The central market of Florence is about a seven-minute walk from Accademia. In Italian, it's referred to as il Mercato Centrale. It's a great place to grab a coffee, some fruit or snacks to keep you going all day. After the central market, you should head to Brunelleschi's Cathedral, which is Florence's central focal point. You'll hear the massive cathedral being referred to as il Duomo. It's recognized for its captivating color scheme, bronze doors, and magnificent cupola, or dome. The cathedral took over a hundred years to build and was consecrated in 1436 during the height of the Florentine Renaissance. Right in Piazza del Duomo is a great artisanal gelato shop called Gelato Edoardo Bio. It's family-owned, organic, and has recipes that are over a hundred years old. The Basilica of Santa Croce, is not only a beautiful church but the final resting place of Michelangelo and Galileo. One of the best parts about Santa Croce is on the outside. This lively piazza is a people-watchers dream. There are plenty of outdoor restaurants in Florence but consider La Cantinetta Verrazzano. This is a local favorite and recommendation of one of our guides in Florence. From here, you should pass by one of Italy's most famous bridges, the Ponte Vecchio or old bridge, famous for its shops physically built into the bridge. Today, most of them sell gold, but they've been selling different artisanal goods here since it was constructed as far back as the 12th century. Now you're right around the corner from Piazza della Signoria. This square is connected to one of the world's most impressive collections of Renaissance art, the Uffizi Gallery. Piazza della Signoria is host to a beautiful array of outdoor statues, monuments, and fountains. The most notable building in this square is Palazzo Vecchio which is the Town Hall of Florence. By now, it should be getting late and you should consider going to All'Antico Vinaio for a Florentine sandwich. On the way to the train station, you should stop by La Fontana del Porcellino. It's a bronze statue of a boar and Florence's most famous piece of folklore. You put a coin in the boar's mouth and let it slide out. If it successfully falls the grate below, it ensures a safe return to Florence. This tradition was documented as early as 1766. From here, you're only 10 to 15 minutes from the main train station, but by a rule of thumb when in a foreign city, you should try to get there 20 minutes early. Cefalù, Sicily, Italy:Great vacation in Italy. Visit Sicily with us. Book your vacation on www.merchantissimo.com, the best vacation you ever had.Cefalù is a great place in Sicily for your next vacation, book now.
http://www.merchantissimo.com . Cefalù in Sicily, Italy - Cefalù, a wonderful town and a small port on the northern coast of Sicily, Italy - promoted by www.merchantissimo.com Cefalù from Wikipedia Cefalù (Sicilian: Cifalù, Greek: Κεφαλοίδιον, Diod., Strabo, or Κεφαλοιδὶς, Ptol.; Latin: Cephaloedium, or Cephaloedis, Pliny) is a city and comune in the province of Palermo, located on the northern coast of Sicily, Italy on the Tyrrhenian Sea about 75 km east from the provincial capital and 185 km west of Messina. The town is one of the major tourist attractions in the region. Of Greek foundation, the city evidently derived its name from its situation on a lofty and precipitous rock, forming a bold headland (Κεφαλὴ) projecting into the sea. But though its name proves it to have been of Greek origin, no mention is found of it in Thucydides, who expressly says that Himera was the only Greek colony on this coast of the island (vi. 62); it is probable that Cephaloedium was at this time merely a fortress (φρούριον) belonging to the Himeraeans, and may very likely have been first peopled by refugees after the destruction of Himera. Its name first appears in history at the time of the Carthaginian expedition under Himilco, 396 BC, when that general concluded a treaty with the Himeraeans and the inhabitants of Cephaloedium. (Diod. xiv. 56.) But after the defeat of the Carthaginian armament, Dionysius the Elder made himself master of Cephaloedium, which was betrayed into his hands. (Ibid. 78.) At a later period we find it again independent, but apparently on friendly terms with the Carthaginians, on which account it was attacked and taken by Agathocles, 307 BC. (Id. xx. 56.) In the First Punic War it was reduced by the Roman fleet under Atilius Calatinus and Scipio Nasica, 254 BC, but by treachery and not by force of arms. (Id. xxiii., Exc. Hoesch. p. 505.) Cicero speaks of it as apparently a flourishing town, enjoying full municipal privileges; it was, in his time, one of the civitates decumanae which paid the tithes of their corn in kind to the Roman state, and suffered severely from the oppressions and exactions of Verres. (Cic. Verr. ii. 5. 2, iii. 43.) It also minted coins. No subsequent mention of it is found in history, but it is noticed by the geographers Strabo, Pliny, and Ptolemy, among the towns of Sicily, and at a later period its name is still found in the Itineraries.

BBC - Italy Unpacked: The Art of the Feast
Andrew Graham-Dixon and chef Giorgio Locatelli travel through Italy exploring the country's history, culture, food, art and landscape. Their journey begins in Bologna, the capital of Emilia-Romagna, one of the richest regions in Italy. They find out why the city is know as la Dotta (the Learned), la Grassa (the Fat) and la Rossa (the Red), while visiting its shops, art institutions and the oldest university in the world.
