Sea Kayak Around Ireland - Full Documentary

46:00
Winner of Best Sea Kayaking Film - Reel Paddling Film Festival 2017 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sea Kayak Around Ireland is 45 minute documentary the tells the story of 2 Irish Sea Kayakers who take on their dream journey of circumnavigating their country. 2015 will go down, for myself (Jon Hynes) and my paddling partner, Sean Cahill as being one of our most memorable years. We both have enjoyed a lifetime of adventures from a very young age. This has been one of our most satisfying adventures yet. We really hope you enjoy our documentary “Sea Kayak Around Ireland”. It’s been a dream of our to paddle around our own country for many years. In fact we were inspired by many of our kayaking friends who have taken on the journey in the past. Over the year both Sean and I have kayaked all over the world, we’ve had great victories over nature and the elements both on the sea and on the river. Sometimes we fared less well against those elements, however we always maintained a grounded sense and a willingness to learn. With these experiences behind us we embarked upon our dream trip around Ireland in June & July 2015. Not only did the weather and elements test us but our trip was a celebration of life, fitness, adventure and most of all, Irish people. Every day we met people, who were so kind to us, we are forever grateful to each and everyone of you. Hopefully this film in some small way reflects how much that kindness means to us. Ireland truly is, one of the world’s most special places to come and sea kayak. Both Sean and I would to thank the following people and companies. Cian Walsh of Marine User Experience (http://www.mux.ie) for all his hard work, dedication and unending energy to help us bring our story to life in this documentary. We really appreciate every ounce of energy you gave. Much respect. Thanks to Nick Bendon of www.chmarine.com , he came on board our trip plans from a very early stage and supported us with product and publicity. Yak Kayaking equipment kindly supplied us with some really fantastic kit. The Greenburg Buoyancy Aid and Glacier Jacket felt like battle armour when we faced the most challenging of Atlantic sea condtions. http://www.crewsaver.com/yak Craghoppers clothing and Gavin Fox were also very kind to us taking care of all our shore based clothing. Thank you. http://www.craghoppers.com Gavan Murphy of www.globalstar.com kindly supplied us with a Spot Tracker Gen 3 device that was superb in allowing people to monitor and track our progress. Thank you. Thanks to the following. Declan Counihan of West Midland Optical & Julbo eyewear. Reed Chillcheater http://www.chillcheater.com Graham Stanley http://www.stanleystickers.com The Speckled Door pub & restaurant Old Head of Kinsale. Oisin McGrath who filmed us with his drone in Co. Clare, a special thanks! http://iflytechnology.com Big shout out to Pearse and Jason of http://www.bigsurfshop.com , THE best online surf shop in Ireland! Music Annette Buckley Beneath the Big Blue Sea, thank you so much for this beautiful track. Can't wait to take you sea kayaking in Summer 2016. Moby SSDX The Hynes Family, thanks for all your belief in me over the years. A special thanks to my Father, Tony Hynes and my Mother, Hillary Good who gave me the opportunities as a young boy to go kayaking and brought me to the most special place every summer, Roaring Water bay, West Cork. Those childhood experiences have forged a lifetime love of being out on the water. A special thanks to the Cahill family for all their support of Sean and his journey around Ireland. A special thanks to all the volunteers and staff at Coast & Cliff Rescue stations and RNLI stations all around Ireland who let us camp, shower, refresh along the way. Keep up the great work at sea. We’d also like to acknowledge and thank the lads who work 24:7 at the Marine Radio Centre’s at Valentia Island, Malin Head and Dublin. Thanks for watching over us and the weather updates every day. We really do appreciate your great work. A final note, to our wives, your belief in us and un-ending support means so much. Without you, we could not have done this! Thank you. Sea Kayaking Around Ireland is something that can be enjoyed by everyone. Check out http://www.seakayakaroundireland.com for details of all the people who have taken on the challenge. NORTHSEAKAYAK - Sea Kayak Training Camp Lumbarda, Croatia Edition 2018

09:51
A few months ago, I got an email from Ivka and Boris. They introduced themselves as enthusiastic beginners to sea kayaking, telling me that they want to start up a sea kayak business in Lumbarda, Croatia. They asked us if they could attend to one of our well-known Training Days to learn a thing or two about sea kayaking and safety. While getting to know each other the idea of coming over to Belgium changed to organizing a whole training camp spread over several days. I could feel that these people were on the same page as our NORTHSEAKAYAK team, eager to learn, enthusiast and friendly, so I said yes! I could organize my classes as I pleased for five days. Although I had never met Ivka and Boris before I could immediately feel a connection, my feeling was right when I arrived there! When I said to them that the “magic” would happen when my team arrived they couldn’t believe it at first. We made a schedule for the coming days, way in advance, so we could teach a large number of techniques, sharing as much of our own knowledge as possible. Safety is a priority so rescues, self-rescues and whole doom scenarios would be included. Now we look back to a successful Sea Kayak Training Camp in Lumbarda, Croatia. I would recommend other people to visit the area, make sure to contact Boris and Ivka, their business is called “Spirit of Korkyra” (website https://spiritofkorkyra.com/ ) and aims at the sea kayak enthusiast and hikers who want to explore the beautiful island. I can honestly say that we have made new friends who welcomed us as if they have known us for years! I had the honor to work with a great, friendly and motivated crew who I consider family! I hope to go back there one day! Big thanks for the whole crew who attend this first Sea Kayak Training Camp in Lumbarda, and let’s not forget our lovely photographer Sylvie, for filming a lot! Take care of each other on the water and have fun!

Ocean Kayak Fishing Isn't Fun Anymore..

Mild profanity in this vid.. apologies 17:53 is really the beginning of the part you want to see, but this whole video has some decent content if you watch the whole thing but yea go ahead and click to the end and watch me flail through the waves. Do yourself a favor and watch this vid from a couple days later... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SXq4vEWsms Gopro: hero 3+ silver http://amzn.to/2iy8PyO Rod: Pompano Bay 7' Custom (http://www.pompanobayrods.com) Reel: Penn Clash 4k http://amzn.to/2hs2Gbr Fishfinder: http://amzn.to/2iwROJk Kayak: Hobie Revo 13.. kinda like this: http://amzn.to/2i8N5uk Magictail Tog jigs for the tog.. custom poured in NJ https://www.facebook.com/MagicTail-Bucktails-366916750153943/?fref=ts Video is a couple weeks old.... got to the beach with kayak in tow right after sunrise, drove around looking for 50lb stripers leaping out of the water but instead saw a whole lot of nothing.. drove around with Tenzin for a little while searching for any sign of life worth launching the kayaks for... found the fleet and I scouted it out from the beach.. It didnt look to promising.. Romo and Mike arrived.. we got out into the ocean a little before 9am... penetrated the fleet and found they were working a huge school of peanut bunker with very few fish on them, didn't see anyone hook up or any bait spraying, a couple hours passed, the fleet disappeared, started finding little pieces of life here and there, Romo got a nice Bluefish, there were some 24"-30" Bass working some peanuts in tight... it was basically dead all over out there and the only life we found was tight to the beach. Decided to try to find some structure and tog fish mid afternoon... caught a short.. then lost a drag puller (which I didn't have on video), before seeing the birds come back to life. Chased birds for the last hour of the day, they would pop up here and there and move quickly but I caught several bass and a bluefish on topwater before the day was over. Luckily the Bluefish I caught was able to destroy my waders while I was unhooking it. I missed a lot of blowups out there, the fish were doing their typical "hit the lure a bunch of times before actually eating it" but by days end I caught enough fish that I was semi satisfied... until it was time to go in. The waves/swell on this day were a little dicey and thanks to my poor timing I caught a nice wave which flipped my kayak, and lost just about all of my tackle. From the beginning of this day, after seeing dead water everywhere and then seeing the one fleet.. I wanted to bail on the striper persuit and drive another hour to try to get on some big tog, but I went against my better judgement and paddled the many miles and took a ton of casts all for some short bass and an average bluefish, destroyed my waders, and flipped my kayak.. but in the end, it was a beautiful november day with my friends on the water, even tho the fishing was tough it was still fun and I have no intentions to stop the ocean kayaking Luckily the beach bite lit up in the days preceding this which you saw in my last video.. I have a few days of footage to sift through but those videos will be coming up shortly. After editing the epic underwater blitz video I have been facing some serious lack of motivation to go through all these vids and put together less epic vids than that last one.. This here video took me a few days to piece together.. some kind of writers block.. editors block? Hopefully you enjoyed watching at least parts of this slow day of fishing and can laugh at my misfortune as I roll through the surf.. This was my first time "turtling" as they call it, and I should really be better prepared for this, every time, with leashes for all my rods and waterproof containers, but if you havent noticed by now, I am lazy and irresponsible and always put forth the minimum effort into maintaining my gear and well being... I dont think that will ever change. Luckily that box of plugs didnt have too many good lures in it... Romo also got some footage of me flipping which you can see on his channel here - https://www.youtube.com/user/romo7493 Rod: Pompano Bay 7' 3/8th-3/4oz x fast custom Kayak: Hobie Revo 13 Lures used: Tsunami talkin popper 7" all day. LowBrace For Sea Kayak-Great For Beginners

06:03
Low brace for sea kayak-Great for beginners Optimize the fit of your kayak: https://www.comfortpaddling.net/low-brace-video-1-of-3-opt/ Complete Bracing Tutorial: https://goo.gl/b4Lc2r In this video you will learn the first step for an effective low brace. You will learn how to move your hips to make your bracing feel more powerful and automatic. If you don’t use your hips you will need to use your arms and push down on the paddle, which can cause it to sink. By using your hips to sweep the paddle forward you get a lot more support. And the paddle stays on the surface of the water, ready to keep bracing if needed. Why so much emphasis on the hips? Look at any sports and ask yourself where does the power come from. Whether it’s throwing a ball, playing tennis, boxing, soccer. The power is generated from the powerful hip muscles. And when you unlock your hips to use that power for bracing avoiding a capsize feels easy. And you enjoy yourself more. This idea of jamming your hips in place for kayaking may be useful for river kayaks. However for sea kayaking I prefer to use the hips for a more agile and natural movement. The kayak becomes an extension to your body, not a prison that stops you from using your most powerful muscles. If you are feeling the pressure on your arms and shoulders I recommend you click the link above and watch how to adjust the fit of your kayak so that you can control it with ease. Here is a recap of this video: 0:49 Importance of using the hips 1:38 warning: 2:00 You need the right fit with your kayak 3:42 muscle memory exercise for low brace 4:32 practicing sculling on the water ======================================================= Subscribe to my channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtctJ5dXpYeG__i_eRnmlwQ?sub_confirmation=1 ======================================================= Comfort Paddling 1735A Kings Rd Victoria, BC V8R 2N9 https://comfortpaddling.net https://dancingwiththesea.com ======================================================= facebook link: https://business.facebook.com/Comfort.Paddling/ google plus link: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+PauloOuellet#111142799433053627630/posts?tab=wX youtube channel link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtctJ5dXpYeG__i_eRnmlwQ: youtube video link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGTOoKlh0IM&feature=youtu.be Sea Kayaking Brace

Anglesey Sea Kayak Symposium Rough Water Day

07:23
Saturday of the 2014 Anglesey Sea Kayak Symposium saw a large group of paddlers heading out into Penrhyn Mawr. The "intermediate" group, of which I was a part, got into the races a little after peak flow (which the "advanced" group went for), but a day or so after spring tide, this was still a fairly pushy bit of water. As the tide began to slacken, we took a brief stop for lunch before catching the last of the flood to run down the outer race and into Abraham's Bosom, where we played behind the stacks on our way to South Stack. We were out of the tide, but met it again under the bridge where the ebb had already set. This gave us some current to paddle against to get up through the gap, then into the ebb race on the outside before heading back to Porth Dafarch. One or two people have posted comments about sit-on-tops (now deleted as irrelevant). Please note (for your own safety, apart from anything else) that all the kayaks you see are proper sea kayaks, with cockpits and spraydecks, and a reliable roll is essential for venturing out in conditions like this - SOTs are not suitable !

Sea Kayaking Skye 2016 - Elgol.

48:02
So here it is, the first proper paddle of the outing, and it was a stunner. This place is really something else, can't think of anywhere in the UK like this, perhaps The Slieve League, but that is in Eire. The weather was fantastic............right up until we launched!! It was a choppy ride over, and even more choppy coming back, but this Cetus is absolutely made for me, and I can take much more of the choppy stuff now. The first thing you realise, when you do this paddle, is the amount of time it takes to reach the head of the Sea loch. The scale of the place is staggering, and you begin to wonder if something is holding you back, it isn't, it's just Mother Nature, and Physics and stuff. At the head of the Loch, you encounter the river emptying out of Loch Coruisk. It's only a few hundred yards, but is quite boggy in places, but the view is about the best I've seen in the UK so far. The Salty Seadogs, who set out at the same time as us, actually carried their boats right up to paddle Loch Coruisk, and planned to camp out overnight. Don't know how they got on, but I presume, not very well, as a Northerly wind got up, and stayed with us for the next 4 days approaching Gale force at times, then it dropped to nothing as you can witness for yourselves in the upcoming videos.

An island like Santorini has plenty of scope for water sports, including sea kayaking, which you can enjoy in either the open waters of the east side of the island or in the calmer sea inside the Caldera, or volcano mouth ringed by the spectacular cliffs. Sea kayaking is an activity that you can enjoy scenery that is not visible by any other means, and in Santorini there are plenty of places especially in the coves of the volcano. Sea Kayaking Cornwall 2013 - Godrevy Island and back.

40:37
Best paddle of the trip? YOU decide, ha ha. I first did this trip in 2009(See video) and it will always have a special little place in my heart. I always assumed the South Cornish coast was the best, but within an hour of being at Portreath in June 2009, I realised that, that statement was about to be seriously questioned. The 2 trips I did, back then were awesome, and I thought a return visit could NEVER live up to those 2 days, but this surpassed the lot. Ralph's Cupboard, Basset's Cove, the shipwreck Secil Japan, Deadman's Cove, Hell's Mouth, Fishing Cove..........all wonderful places to be encountered, throw in fantastic coastal scenery, some classic caves, seals, seabirds, and even some friendly locals on sit on kayaks, and you have all the ingredients of a classic. To top it all off, the BEST weather we've had in years, and there you have it the best trip of 2013, and possibly ever, couldn't say it was better than Staffa, or Handa Island, but most certainly as good. The sheer length of the video is indicative of what we experienced, and I've still left out the rock gardens, and pitch black caves, and tunnels we encountered in the fog!!! Doing the video was an episode also, my computer got a 'Worm blaster' virus, which put me out of action a while, and I had to record a lot of new music to go on the video, which is much harder now as my 'Music room' has been taken over by the new log burner. Special mention to Paul, and Aaron who we met at Ralph's Cupboard, proper salt of the Earth types.

Sea kayak trip from Trefor in Wales

17:23
My first trip onto the sea in my Kayak. Drove down to Trefor the night before and paddled the next day. Also my first time using a GoPro camera, I used my Pentax K100D SLR for the stills. Found a Geocache, my first by kayak, I missed another one as I had paddled past it and didn't want to back track. In the future I'll do a video about the modifications/kitting out of my Land Rover 110 and maybe my shed. I might not do as many videos in the future as I had planned because it takes too long, this video took over 4 hours to edit and is going to take over an hour to upload. I had hoped to edit and upload from my laptop when out camping but I don't think it'll work too well. We'll see... I had to change the Tom Petty music to somethings found on youtube but it works well.

Obviously it’s the shape of the wings, and the way they create lift as they move through the air. Imagine if you could have that same agility in your kayak. Because of the way your paddle moves through the water. And gives you support without needing to push it down. And propels your forward smoothly and quietly without needing to heave it back like a shovel. The Greenland paddle does exactly that. But what if I told you that there is one thing just one thing that will stop you from having agility with your greenland paddle. And without that one thing you are left with a clumsy stick that doesn’t give you an effortless forward stroke, or make rolling a breeze. Before I get started Let me introduce myself. I’m Paulo and ever since I learned that one thing I’ve been able to brace quickly, and have the peace of mind that allows me to explore the west coast. Where ever I choose. And keep myself out of the water even in rough conditions. Imagine if your paddle could give you the same agility that the airplane has. Just move your wrist a bit and the blade angle changes to give you instant support as it glides smoothly through the water. Why would you capsize. This ability to glide and give lift is what gives the greenland paddle the reputation for making rolling so easy. And as you can guess there is a bit more to the story. When I started with the Greenland paddle I didn’t know how to use it. I had a dream to have a quiet and energy efficient forward stroke, and the bracing and rolling power to keep me safe as I explored the beautiful west coast. But it didn’t work for me. My forward stroke felt sloppy and weak. And there was nothing to brace with. It just sinks down with little resistance. Thank god there’s an easier way. What I discovered is that there is a different way to move with your kayak. And that’s what gives you the agility. Instead of being jammed into your kayak like you would be in a river kayak, in sea kayaking you can unlock your hips and use them for power. The way you do for playing tennis, or baseball, or boxing, or for golfing, or walking, or any other sport really. As you can imagine using your powerful hips is a game changer. For paddling faster. And further without tiring. Or make sweep turns without the pressure that can cause shoulder pain. And do a low brace or a high brace without having to push down on the paddle in a way that can cause a permanent shoulder injury. Or leave your paddle deep under water where it gives you no support. Just use your hips to get quick support. And now you can brace as you paddle. Knowing that your hip power is always there to save you gives you peace of mind on the water. Now unlocking your hips is not just about power and agility. The real breakthrough it provides is something I never would have expected in a million years. It’s the secret that I’m sure we didn’t know about when we invented the new and improved big blade, and the hard to learn techniques that go with it. Yes using your hips gives you a quick brace. A powerful easy on the body forward stroke that helps you keep going all day. And instead of feeling cramped at the end of a paddle you feel like you got some healthy exercise. But there is an unexpected benefit that comes from unlocking your hips. The real secret is that when you move your hips you gain flexibility. So what? Well now if you capsize you don’t need to force your way through the water to get back up. You don’t have to fight against gravity. That extra flexibility makes you float up naturally. Just like you do when you are laying on your back in the water. You are not fighting against the water anymore. And you are not fighting with the kayak either. The water and the kayak are helping you, giving you support. Imagine what that does to your fear of capsizing? There is no such thing anymore. There is only in the water or out of the water. And either way you can relax and breath.
