Adjusting to client requests and established brand packaging
There are situations when a client has established branding or such as a logo or preexisting packaging and it is not feasible to re brand. In such cases, diversity and flexibility is vital and the designer needs to be able to adjust by meshing the client's concept with the designer's own unique vision. In this case study, the established logo of Awakened Heart Productions, by way of what appears to be a rather rudimentary illustration that looks like a first grade art assignment, strategically suggests that they produce content for children. The client's objective to convey their expansion into digital 3D animated content required the melding of their 2D illustrated logo with 3D animation without changing the original form of their logo. There was no need to transform the logo into a 3D model because Awakened Heart Productions (AHP) decided it was important to maintain the illustrated look of the logo in order to reaffirm their continuing commitment to produce children's' content in the traditional formats. Although at first glance the two styles of graphics seem to clash, that is precisely the intended effect.

China For Beverage Brands: Challenges and Opportunities
Today, the market for fast-moving consumer goods in China looks less welcoming to outsiders than it did four years ago. 60 percent of foreign brands report declining market share and, challenged by the success of local players, The Coca-Cola Company and PepsiCo have seen their combined share of soft drink volume drop 4.6 percent since 2009. Yet, Chinese shoppers report the highest willingness among global consumers to purchase online in 18 of 22 product categories. In the Food & Beverage segment, purchase intent in China has jumped to 57 percent and to 34 percent in Alcoholic Drinks. Online spending in the Food & Drink segment is expected to more than triple by 2019, to roughly $35 billion dollars. Unique consumer behavior coupled with unfamiliar digital platforms complicates marketing investments in China. However there is opportunity for brands committed to understanding the digital ecosystem. New and established platforms are vying for position across Chinese cities. Since its launch in 2012, Tmall Supermarket has consolidated items carried by multiple merchants into a unified storefront, forcing a new approach to logistics. In May 2014, Amazon invested $20 million in online grocer Yummy77—the retail giant’s first investment in a Chinese company. In January 2015, Yihaodian announced it had reached nearly 90 million registered users and doubled product selection to more than eight million SKUs. Global Beverage brands will either prepare for these new modes of online disruption—or watch the opportunity in China shift to more agile local brands. Product History: Kit Kat Chocolate
The Kit Kat and Kit Cat names were trademarked in 1911 by the Rowntree’s company based in York, United Kingdom. The first Kit Kat concept appeared in the 1920’s when Rowntree’s launched a brand of boxed chocolates named Kit Cat, which was discontinued in the 1930’s. The original 4 finger bar was developed after a worker at the Rowntree’s York factory put a suggestion in a suggestion box for a snack that “A man could take to work in his pack”. The 4 finger bar was launched on August 29th 1935 under the name “Rowntree’s Chocolate Crisp”. In 1937 the bar was renamed to Kit Kat chocolate crisp and began to incorporate “Break” into its advertising. In the 1940-50’s after its success in the UK, Kit Kat was exported to Canada, South Africa, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The Kit Kat became blue between 1944 and 1947. As a result of milk shortages after the end of WWII, the milk chocolate was suspended and a dark chocolate was used instead. In 1958 Donald Gills created the iconic advertising line “Have a Break, have a Kit Kat”. In the 1970’s Rowntree’s created a new factory in Germany to meet European demand and established agreements to distribute the brand in the USA and Japan. In June 1988 Nestle acquired Kit Kat through the purchase of Rowntree’s. The Kit Kat chunky was launched in 1999. Kit Kat is now manufactured in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Bulgaria, Russia, Turkey, Dubai, South Africa, India, Malaysia, Japan and Australia. The main formats for Kit Kat are the 2-finger, 4-finger, Chunky and Pop Choc. Kit Kat is also sold in localised flavours around the world like Green tea and Wasabi in Japan. In the US Kit Kat is manufactured by Hershey’s under license from Nestle. This is the US packaging and logo and this is the European packaging and logo. This video shows u only a handful of Noritake art-works. Noritake is a tableware and technology company headquartered in Nagoya, Aichi-prefecture in Japan. The simplified version of the company’s history goes as follows (Sources of the information: Wikipedia): 1876 Mr. Ichizaemon Morimura VI and his younger brother, Toyo, founded “Morimura Gumi” (or Morimura Group) with the intent of establishing overseas trading by a J-company. 1878 Toyo had established a business in New York selling J-antiques and other goods, including pottery. 1881 The company was renamed as “Morimura Brothers.” In the 1890s Morimura Brothers had shifted from retail to wholesale operations and started working on design improvements for the pottery and porcelain ware, which had become one third of its business. 1899 All of the pottery and porcelain decorating factories in Tokyo and Kyoto had been consolidated in Nagoya, and the company started research on creating European style hard white porcelain in Japan. 1904 Key members of this trading company created the Nippon Toki Kaisha, Ltd. ("the Company that makes J's Finest China") in J. A new factory was built in Noritake, near Nagoya (As of May, 2015, the address is as follows: Noritake-shinmachi (= Noritake-new city), Nishi-ku (= West district), Nagoya, Aichi-prefecture, JAPAN. Other products currently manufactured by Noritake, also derived from its core tableware manufacturing technologies, include thick film circuit substrates, engineering ceramics, ceramic powder, and vacuum fluorescent displays, as well as heating furnaces and kilns, mixing technology, filtration systems, and cutting and grinding machines. Although consumers and collectors alike have called the tableware, "Noritake" (and/or simply, "Nippon") since the late 1920s, the J-parent company did not officially change its name to the Noritake Co., Limited until 1981. Evidently, since Noritake is the name of a place, the company was initially prohibited from registering the name as a trade name. 2015 The Noritake Garden in Nagoya features the production of its ceramics and crystal glassware. Music by Electric Needle Room. All images found in the public domain or by Matt Beat. Once upon a time, there were 13 British colonies along the east coast of North America. Today we classify these colonies into three groups: 1) The New England Colonies 2)The Middle Colonies and 3) The Southern Colonies All the colonies had a lot of self-government and most white men could vote, as long as they had property. All of the colonies were prosperous grew quickly. In 1625, the population of the colonies, not including Native Americans, was around 2,000. By 1775, that number had swollen to 2 and a half million, and this group in 1775 didn’t have nearly as much in common with or as much loyalty to their European ancestors. Yep, these American colonies had developed a brand new, very distinct, society, and soon they would be leaving their European ancestors behind. The New England colonies were generally more religious, and though its settlers came to America to practice their religion freely, they, ironically, did not tolerate any other religion other than their own. Massachusetts was made up of Puritans, but some Puritans didn’t think the Puritans in Massachusetts were devout enough, so they left and started the colonies of Connecticut and New Haven. Meanwhile, Puritans like Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams, who thought the Puritans in Massachusetts were too restrictive, left (well, they were kicked out) to form the colony of Rhode Island. Rhode Island actually had the freedom of religion and a radical idea of separating church and state. In New England towns along the coast, the colonists made their living fishing, whaling, and shipbuilding. Because farming was difficult, New England began to develop manufacturing with industries like shipbuilding to make money. Being furthest north, the New England colonies were the coldest, but because of this there was less disease than in the warmer colonies further south. The Middle Colonies were the most diverse by far of the colonies. Different ethnic groups like the English, Swedes, Dutch, Germans, Scots-Irish and French lived closer together here than they ever did in Europe. There were also many different religions, most Christian denominations, such as Quakers. With many religions came religious freedom, especially in Pennsylvania, the Quaker colony established by William Penn that had a constitution that protected many freedoms and would later influence the United States Constitution. Economically, the middle colonies served as important shipping off point for valuable stuff to send back to Europe. Cities here, like New York and Philadelphia, grew quickly. Being in the middle (I know, such an original name, right?) put these colonies in the middle of everything, really. Ideas, society, culture, the economy, you name it. They also had much more fertile soil than the North. Farming The Southern Colonies, which also had very fertile soil, were all about the cash crops- mostly tobacco, but also rice, cotton, and indigo. Here, large plantations sprung up that required a large labor force. To fill this labor force, plantations often brought in both slaves and indentured servants to take care of the work. Slavery became an important part of the economy in the South. Being furthest south, the winters were more mild, but the hot and humid summers caused more diseases like malaria and yellow fever to spread easily. Life expectancy was lowest in the southern colonies. There was also more religious tolerance in the southern colonies, even in Maryland, which was originally established for Roman Catholics. Georgia was the southernmost colony and the last of the colonies established. James Oglethorpe had the idea to relocate thousands of prisoners from England who were there because they couldn’t pay back their debts to Georgia to start a new life, and King George II went along with it because the colony could be a buffer between Spanish Florida and the rich plantations of South Carolina. Plus, it was named after him. Overall, the 13 colonies were extremely diverse, almost like 13 little countries. However, they all had a lot in common. They had similar political, constitutional, and legal systems, and most of them were WASPs. No, not those wasps. WASP- it stands for white Anglo-Saxon Protestants. Most colonial families were self reliant. Also, this might surprise you, all of colonies had legal slavery was big. They produced lots of wheat and corn, and raised lots of livestock. Other industries here included the production of iron ore, lumber, textiles, furs and shipbuilding.

There's value to creators and industries to know what truly comes across and what doesn't, initially, for for those familiar and not familiar with what's being reviewed. Products don't always have the benefits of an established brand/name and hype attached, and with an over saturation of product, consumers don't have the luxury to give everything a first chance, let alone a fair chance. Brand/name recognition factor alone isn't enough either, though it'll help with it's initial launch, but beyond that, in my opinion, regardless of brand/name recognition, there are certain factors (ie. for comics, including cover, story, art and hype), that are very important for a product have in order to GRAB the consumer right off the bat on multiple levels (ie. impulse, point of purchase buys, with just 1 issue), to ensure they will continue to support and invest in it long term. --------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER My knee-jerk views are what they are, my own views, specific to who I am, but they don’t necessarily reflect how I really feel about anything given the chance to gather my thoughts. Can I trust myself to say, or do things, when I confuse myself sometimes? It’s a risk, but I do take responsibility for putting it out there, and try not to be irresponsible, in order to provide something raw. I’m a philosopher and devils advocate at heart. I really do feel I can see the both sides of everything, even though expressing them through language/words sometimes is a struggle as I feel, I’ve been losing my grasp of vocabulary, and ability to focus overtime. I’ve always been more of a feeler; how I remember things, and in decision making (which is a whole other struggle). Language/words have always seemed limiting to me.
