Success is often amplified and on the contrary, failures are minimized. 99.9% of the entrepreneurs go through mountains of failures, and that’s what makes them successful. It is precisely the point that they have the ability to bounce back from their failures. His father in law is a successful and generous businessman and helped him to open his first Thai Express business. However, a couple of hundred dollars is what he took to build his business. Leaving by his books and morals, Ivan turned down a $5 million penthouse from his father in law and strongly believes in working hard to create something that truly belongs to him. Sometimes, it isn’t so much about the amount of money you started with for your business. Life has to have meaning and it is the experiences, learning journey which shape your life value. Effort, it being your own, it makes who you are, and you know how deep and how far you can go. You can learn, and you can grow. “Do I live a meaningful life now? I do. Established Entrepreneur Series - Ivan Lee (Episode 4)

05:43
“The key metric is how much value I have added to the people I care about.” – John Kaufman Is it always true that most entrepreneurs end up compromising time spent with their loved ones? How then can Entrepreneurs achieve a successful marriage and family life? In this second last episode of Ivan Lee’s Established Entrepreneur Series, he shares his views on work-life balance. What makes him feel a sense of accomplishment in life beside work? It is the ability to keep his family together, helping and providing for their comfort. If someone tells you that money can do all things, even buying kinship, he’s wrong. To build a successful and blissful family life, you reap what you sow; how much time and effort are you willing to put in? Ivan simply puts across the fact that everyone can have a successful family life. It boils down to how the individual views the situation. It starts with the fact that you are not going to get married again, so you have got to put in the effort to make things work. If your brain tells you that if things don’t work out, you can easily find another partner, it will happen, because you gave yourself that option. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. When it comes to work, Ivan rationalizes his theories and principles wisely. In order to measure success, you need to know your benchmark. Who are you measuring against? And at which point would you tell yourself that “This is where I want to be”? Determination is important, but one must differentiate it from being delusional. If you invest in some things and you don’t see any progress over a prolonged period of time, that is a good sign that you should end it, said Ivan Lee. If you are wondering, progress does not always mean profit. As long as you still see some movements or any signs of life, that’s okay. Keep it going, you might just be on the right track to your first breakthrough.

Disruptive Entrepreneur Series - Carro (Aaron Tan)

01:06
Carro - A Car Marketplace You Can Trust. Buying a used car is not a simple process. You run the risk of paying too high a price for a product which may break down or need major repairs within months or even days of purchase. It is also important to understand the transfer of ownership procedure and to get the required paperwork right. For most individuals, the entire exercise takes up a great deal of time and even after the transaction is concluded there is always a feeling that you could have got a better deal. Aaron Tan, who graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, spotted a business opportunity in the discomfort that buying or selling a used car creates in most of us. ------------------------------------------ Carro's Background Carro got its start in 2015 – Although the company is just about a year old, Aaron Tan is no stranger to entrepreneurship. Back in 1998, when he was just 13 years old, he decided to build a web portal that would be better than Yahoo! At that time he had identified areas that could be improved upon in both AltaVista and Yahoo! This early experience has stood Carro in good stead. The year-old platform addresses the problems that Singaporeans face when buying or selling a used car. In most instances, the deal goes through a middleman or broker, pushing up the cost of the transaction for the buyer and resulting in a lower price for the seller. Carro provides an alternative by offering buyers and sellers the unique opportunity of interacting directly with each other.

Taking over a traditional business that has since established its name in 1969 is not an easy task, shares Yeo Hart Pong, Managing Director of Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, also eldest son of Yeo Eng Song, Founder of Song Fa Bak Kut Teh.
