How To Hold Your Handlebars Like A Pro

02:35
It might sound straight forward, but knowing the correct times to hold each position on your handlebars makes riding faster, safer, and more comfortable. Subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Get exclusive GCN gear in the GCN store! http://gcn.eu/BuyGCNKit_ Sign up to the GCN newsletter: http://gcn.eu/gcnnewsletter We start with the drops, the best position for fast riding. It's lower, so you're more aerodynamic, but you also have more control, particularly as this is the most effective position from which to brake. Next we tackle the hoods, the best position for all day comfort. It's not quite as aerodynamic, but it's great for climbing out of the saddle. Finally, holding your bars on the tops is perfect for long, gradual climbs as it sits you further back on the bike, opening up your lungs and recruiting your glutes. Watch this guide, and you will always be in the right position on your bars. How To Ride In A Group - Group Riding Etiquette

03:07
There are a number of unwritten rules for riding in a group to ensure you're safe and welcome on group rides. Follow GCN on YouTube: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Make sure you treat others the way that you would like to be treated and you're a long way towards being a welcome member of a group ride. Make sure you indicate, point out obstaces, and if you need to spit move to the back. Ensure you're not 'half wheeling', wait for people on climbs or if they've had a mechanical and give people encouragement on the ride. Follow these rules for riding in a group and you'll be welcome on almost every group ride. How To Know When To Change Your Chain, Cassette And Chainrings

04:45
Your bike chain, cassette and chainrings will all wear out eventually, but how do you know when to change them? Here's our guide. Follow GCN on YouTube: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN A newly minted drivetrain makes your bike feel great, and keeping on top of chain wear and old parts on your bike will make for cheaper repalcements as our chain wears faster than the cassette and chainrings. Measuring chain stretch or wear can be done with a specifc tool, a ruler or just by pulling the chain. Chainrings generally last a long while - and the tell tales sign is "shark's teeth". The cassette is similar - "shark's teeth" or "ghost shifting" just after you've changed your chain. Making sure you change your chain, cassette and chainrings as they wear will ultimately make your riding cost less, so get measuring your chain now! Buy GCN Cycling Kit! Top 10 Things The UCI Have Banned

From frames to footwear, here is a list of some of the many things banned by cycling's governing body the UCI. Some may surprise you! Subscribe to GCN on YouTube: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Developments in technology and knowledge regarding sport science and aerodynamics mean that cycling is constantly looking for ways to improve performance. However, sometimes the UCI needs to step in to make sure such advancements aren't giving some riders an unfair advantage. While we agree with most things on this list, we will miss the days of Spinergys and Spinacis. And we may be a little cheeky and don some mittens at our local velodrome... Top 5 Stretches To Do After A Ride | Cycling Fitness

03:56
Stretching after your ride helps maintain your flexibility and potentially reduce the chances of injury. Here are 5 key exercises that you can make a part of your routine. Become a GCN fan: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN The main muscles that are key in cycling are the quads, hamstrings and glutes, so they will naturally get tighter over the course of a long ride. Stretching them out eases the tension in those muscles and can help stop any soreness you might have the following day. Many cyclists will have problems with tight hamstrings - this is because the leg never fully extends at any point during the pedal stroke. Short hamstrings can also lead to lower back pain, so it's important to keep both these areas flexible to try and lessen the chances of those niggles stopping you from riding comfortably. What To Take On A 100km Ride - Cycling Tips

01:41
Knowing what - and how much - to take on a long ride can be a tricky buisness. We've taken the guess work out of it, and tell you what you need while traveling light. Subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/gcnsubs There are three essentials to cover: fluid, food, and tools. We recommend, if possible, taking two bottles and filling up mid ride to make sure you are not burdened with unnecessary weight. Take one piece of food per hour, but you need to find out what works for you. Finally, take two inner tubes, pump and a multi tool to cover the basic mechanical issues you might encounter. Remember though that nothing substitutes a well serviced bike before you set out.
