Queen + Adam Lambert - “Don't Stop Me Now” RheinEnergieStadion Köln / Cologne DE 27-05-2016

04:03
Queen + Adam Lambert performed live in the RheinEnergieStadion in Köln / Cologne, Germany on Friday, May 27, 2016. As a lifelong fan of Queen I was delighted to watch and listen to 2 key members (Brian May & Roger Taylor) of the original band perform their music live for the first time. Adam Lambert did a remarkable job stepping in the huge footsteps of the legend that is Freddie Mercury as singer and showmaster on this evening. Queen are a British rock band that formed in London in 1970. Their classic line-up was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (lead guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar). Queen's earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock, into their music. By the early 1980s, Queen were one of the biggest stadium rock bands in the world. Their performance at 1985's Live Aid is ranked among the greatest in rock history by various music publications, with a 2005 industry poll ranking it the best. In 1991, Mercury died of bronchopneumonia, a complication of AIDS, and Deacon retired in 1997. Since then, May and Taylor have occasionally performed together and since 2011 Adam Lambert performed with them as vocalist. The band have released a total of 18 number one albums, 18 number one singles, and 10 number one DVDs. Estimates of their record sales generally range from 150 million to 300 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists. Queen received the Outstanding Contribution to British Music Award from the British Phonographic Industry in 1990. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. Adam Mitchel Lambert (born January 29, 1982) is an American singer, songwriter and stage actor. Since 2009, he has sold over 2.5 million albums and 5 million singles worldwide. Lambert rose to fame in 2009 after finishing as runner-up on the 8th season of American Idol. Later that year, he released his debut album, For Your Entertainment, which debuted at number 3 on the U.S. Billboard 200. The album spawned several hit singles, including "Whataya Want from Me", for which he received a Grammy nomination for "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance." In 2012, Lambert released his 2nd studio album, Trespassing. The album premiered at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, making him the first openly gay artist to top the album charts. In 2015, Lambert released his third album, The Original High, which debuted at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200. The collaboration between Queen + Adam Lambert originated when May and Taylor appeared on American Idol in 2009 when Lambert was a contestant. Joining May (guitars, vocals), Taylor (drums, percussion, vocals) and Lambert (vocals) on tour are long-time Queen touring keyboardist Spike Edney, bassist Neil Fairclough and percussionist Rufus Tiger Taylor (Roger Taylor's son). During their live concerts they only perform Queen-songs. The song is "Don't Stop Me Now", the second single from the 7th studio album by Queen "Jazz", released in 1978. Written by lead singer Freddie Mercury, it was recorded in August 1978 at Super Bear Studios in Berre-les-Alpes (Alpes-Maritimes), France, and is the twelfth track on the album. Musically the song builds on Mercury's piano playing, with John Deacon and Roger Taylor providing a bass guitar and drums backing track. The song also provides an example of Queen's trademark style of multitrack harmony vocals for the chorus lines. The single reached number 9 in the UK charts but only number 86 in the US. Viewed at the time of release as one of the lesser songs in the Queen canon, it was only performed live during 1979, with the last performance in the Crazy Tour. Despite this the song has grown in stature with time and has been popularised not only by consistent airplay, but by its use in advertisements, television programmes and films, and through cover versions. It has subsequently become one of Queen's most popular songs. The single also has reached Gold status in the United Kingdom. According to study a done by cognitive neuroscientist, Queen's 'Don't Stop Me Now' is The Most Feel-Good Song Of All Time.

During their live concerts they only perform Queen-songs. The song is "Somebody to Love", the first single from the 5th studio album by Queen "A Day At The Races", released in 1976. This song made it clear to fans that "Queen could swing as hard as it could rock, by channeling the spirit of gospel music."Written by Mercury at the piano, "Somebody to Love" is a soul-searching piece that questions God's role in a life without love. Through voice layering techniques, Queen was able to create the soulful sound of a 100-voice choir, with that of only three voices: Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor. Mercury's fascination and admiration for Aretha Franklin was a major influence for the creation of this song. It reached #2 in the UK and #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. At the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert held at Wembley Stadium on 20 April 1992, the song was performed by George Michael. Michael's performance of "Somebody to Love" has been hailed as "one of the best performances of the tribute concert". Serious consideration was even given to having George Michael take over as full-time lead singer of Queen. The song was later rereleased in 1993 as the lead track of an EP called Five Live which went to #1 in the UK.

His second album, Proof of Life, was released on November 5, 2013. Creed released 4 studio albums so far. The song is "Higher", the first single from Creed's second album "Human Clay" (my favourite Creed-album), released in 1999. It was Creed's major breakthrough hit which helped to place them firmly in the American mainstream music scene. It peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 on the issue dated July 22, 2000, and spent 57 weeks upon the survey, which is the longest stay for any Creed song on the Hot 100. Furthermore, it topped both the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock tallies in the process, setting a then-record of 17 weeks for longest stay at the top of the Mainstream Rock chart. It was the first time I saw and heard Scott Stapp live, I had been waiting for over 12 years to see Creed perfom live (I went to a few Alter Bridge shows, the band which the other members of Creed are also part of), but I'm more partial to the vocals of Stapp and I have to say that they are live just as impressive as on the albums, great show!

Prior to Alan Parsons this cooperation Alan Parsons gained fame as the producer of Pink Floyd's classic album "The dark side of the moon". Scott Stapp, the lead singer of Creed, performed live with his band at the Luxor Club in Köln / Cologne, Germany on Monday, April 28, 2014. It was the final European concert of his Proof of Life Tour. Scott Alan Stapp (born August 8, 1973) is an American musician and singer-songwriter. The song is "With Arms Wide Open", the third single from Creed's second album "Human Clay" (my favourite Creed-album), released in 1999. Scott Stapp wrote the lyrics when he found out with great surprise that he was going to be a father. The song topped the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for four weeks in July 2000; a month later it reached the U.S. Top 40. In October, the song hit the top ten and topped Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart for eight weeks. It hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on the issue dated November 11 for one week, and the video topped VH1's top ten countdown in 2000. In February 2001, Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song.

Queen + Adam Lambert (live) - “Radio Ga Ga” RheinEnergieStadion Köln DE 27-05-2016

04:34
The song is "Radio Ga Ga", the first single from the 11th studio album by Queen "The Works", released in 1984. "Radio Ga Ga" was written by drummer Roger Taylor. The single was a worldwide success for the band, reaching number one in 19 countries, number 2 in the UK Singles Chart, and number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. The band performed the song at every concert from 1984 to their last concert with their lead singer Freddie Mercury in 1986, with their most notable performance at Live Aid in 1985. Recorded in 1983 and released in January 1984, the song was a commentary on television overtaking radio's popularity and how one would listen to radio in the past for a favorite comedy, drama, or science fiction programme. It also pertained to the advent of the music video and MTV, which was now competing with radio as an important medium for promoting records.

Billy Joel (and his band) performed live in the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt, Germany on Saturday, September 3, 2016. It was his only concert in mainland Europe in 2016 and his first in Germany since 10 years. William Martin "Billy" Joel (born May 9, 1949) is an American pianist, singer-songwriter and composer. Since releasing his first hit song, "Piano Man", in 1973, Joel has become the 6th best-selling recording artist and the 3rd best-selling solo artist in the United States. Joel had Top 40 hits in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, achieving 33 Top 40 hits in the US, all of which he wrote himself. He is also a 6-time Grammy Award winner who has been nominated for 23 Grammy Awards. He has sold more than 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. Joel was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (1992) and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1999). In 2013, Joel received the Kennedy Center Honors, the nation's highest honor for influencing American culture through the arts. For the most part Joel stopped writing and releasing pop/rock material after 1993's "The River of Dreams"-album. However, he continues to tour, and he plays songs from all eras of his solo career. On December 3, 2013, it was announced that Joel would become a franchise of Madison Square Garden, playing one concert a month indefinitely, starting with a date on January 27, 2014. The song is "Leningrad", the second single from his 11th studio album "Storm Front", released in 1989. The song title is derived from the former name of St. Petersburg, Russia, where Joel performed in 1987 as one of the first American rock acts to play there since the Berlin Wall went up. The song was written by Joel about a Russian clown named Viktor, whom he met while touring the Soviet Union in 1987. Throughout the song, major items of Viktor's and Joel's lives are compared to show the cultural differences and similarities of the United States of America and the Soviet Union. In the song, Joel describes Viktor's life as one of many Soviet children who lost fathers during World War II, specifically during the siege of Leningrad. He enlisted in the Red Army, drank vodka to fight the pain, and then became a circus clown, bringing joy to Russian children. Joel described his childhood life as being "born in 49, a cold war kid in McCarthy time." He briefly describes his life living in Levittown, and the fear of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Joel also makes a reference to the Korean War, a proxy war to the Cold War, as well as the Vietnam War. In the end, the two meet after Billy's Leningrad concert (Viktor had journeyed across Russia to see all six of the Russian concerts), where Viktor draws a laugh from Billy's daughter Alexa, then they hug. In the song's last line Billy sings, "We never knew what friends we had, until we came to Leningrad."

On December 3, 2013, it was announced that Joel would become a franchise of Madison Square Garden, playing one concert a month indefinitely, starting with a date on January 27, 2014. The song is "Prelude/Angry Young Man", a track from his 4th studio album "Turnstiles", released in 1976. The instrumental "Prelude" lasts approximately a minute and 45 seconds, starting with a rapid-fire hammered piano riff on the middle-C piano key, joined by various instruments, swinging through styles such an Aaron Copland-styled ballad to funk to a Southwestern beat. When performing live, Joel plays the fast-paced prelude himself, but performs the song early in setlist, largely because the prelude section was easiest to manage during the adrenaline moments of starting a show, as opposed to being attempted after he had already expended much of his energy for other songs. It is then followed by "Angry Young Man", which paints a slightly sardonic picture of youthful, militant rebellion that is unflagging, trying to fight life's ills despite constant failure ("He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl / And he's always at home with his back to the wall / And he's proud of his scars and the battles he's lost / And he struggles and bleeds as he hangs on his cross / And he likes to be known as the angry young man"). The song contrasts the angry youth's feelings with the maturity of the narrator, who could be interpreted as either the same angry youth at a later age, or somebody who once felt as the angry young man currently does ("I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage / I found that just surviving was a noble fight / I once believed in causes too / I had my pointless point of view / And life went on no matter who was wrong or right".) Despite never having been released as a single, "Prelude/Angry Young Man" has become a popular song among fans as well as a staple of live shows.

The song is "Fiesta", a single by The Pogues, featured on their 1988 album "If I Should Fall from Grace with God", it was written by Jem Finer and Shane MacGowan. Thin Lizzy performed live on the main stage of the Bospop Festival at Weert, The Netherlands on sunday, july 10, 2011. Thin Lizzy are an Irish hard rock band formed in Dublin in 1969 by the 2 founding members, drummer Brian Downey and bass guitarist/vocalist Phil Lynott, who was the frontman and major composer for the most succesfull Thin Lizzy period, but died in 1986. The current band members are Brian Downey (drums), Scott Gorham (guitar), Darren Wharton (keyboards), Marco Mendoza (bass guitar), Ricky Warwick (lead vocals) and Richard Fortus (guitar). The song is "Whiskey in the jar", a famous Irish traditional song, set in the southern mountains of Ireland, with specific mention of counties Cork and Kerry, as well as Fenit, a village in county Kerry. It is about a highwayman, or perhaps a footpad, who is betrayed by his wife or lover, and is one of the most widely performed traditional Irish songs. It has been recorded by numerous professional artists since the 1950s. The song first gained wide exposure when the Irish folk band The Dubliners performed it internationally as a signature song, and recorded it on three albums in the 1960s. Building on their success, the Irish rock band Thin Lizzy hit the Irish and British pop charts with the song in the early 1970s. The American metal band Metallica brought it to a wider rock audience in 1998 by playing a version very similar to that of Thin Lizzy's with a heavier sound, and won a Grammy for the song in 2000 for Best Hard Rock Performance.
