OAXACA MEXICO - TOUR AND TRAVEL VLOG

09:54
Oaxaca is one of Mexico's most unique states, noted for its rich traditional heritage and diverse ethnic population, as well as for its artistic, cultural, and culinary treasures. This video will cover the many sights and UNESCO World heritage sights to photograph in this region. 1. Oaxaca City (7:23 - 9:35) Designated UNESCO Site noted for its Spanish colonial architecture. It is filled with colorful, wonderfully preserved buildings. 2. Markets (8:18 - 8:23) Oaxaca is known as the "Land of the Seven Moles", a complex sauce used with meat and rice. But that is not all. Oaxaca is renowned for its unique regional cuisines. The markets are a great way to try the food. 3. Mezcal Factory Tour (2:06 - 2:50) Mezcal is one of Oaxaca's most famous exports. It is similar to tequila, only with a rich smoky flavor. Mezcal comes in many unique flavors and different aging categories including a variety that comes with a worm for added flavor. Check out the Mezcal Factories where they will show you just how this liquid gold is made. 4. Textiles (1:14 - 2:00) Oaxaca is world famous for its textiles. They are created using natural dyes and wool. The textile patterns mimic the design elements from the Mitla, an archeological site with distinctive geometric patterns, making them distinctive from any other textiles. 5. Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman (7:36 - 8:00) Glorious Baroque church found in Oaxaca City. It includes lavishly ornate interior. Construction started in the 16th Century but did not complete until the 17th Century. The town cathedral is witness to all the cultural activities taking place beneath its facade, including weddings and festivals. 6. Árbol del Tule (0:40 - 1:10) Botanists estimate this tree to be 2,000 years old. It is considered the largest and oldest tree in the world with a perimeter at 139 feet in circumference. It didn't even fit into one picture frame! 7. Hierve de Agua (3:50 - 4:30) One of the most surreal landscape I have ever seen is Hierve de Agua, found about two hours outside of the city. The name translates to "place where the water boils", and contains non-thermal pools, and natural rock formations rising form the valley below including the main highlight, a petrified waterfall. It was created by minerals that pushed through limestone, depositing onto the mountain. You can hike to the "waterfall" or wade around in the mineral pools. 8. Zocalo and Basilica of Our Lady of Solitude (8:23 - 8:36) The Zocalo is the central plaza in Oaxaca City that includes a Spanish Baroque style church, Basilica of our Lady of Solitude. The Zocalo is connected by a pedestrian walkway to the other plaza, Santo Domingo. Along the Zocalo are many street shops and markets. 9. Mitla (2:30 - 3:46) One of the famous archeology sites which translates to "place of the dead". Mitla was an ancient burial and funeral ritual site for the Zapotec people, one of Oaxaca's indigenous groups. It includes one of the few surviving temples, noted for its distinctive small tile mosaic-like geometric patterns in the facade. 10. Monte Albán (6:00 - 7:28) Monte Albán is so amazing, that it deserves its own blog post (coming soon). It is a UNESCO World Heritage site found about 20 minutes outside of the city. It is the first great city of Mesoamerica and dates back to 500 or 600 BCE. The Zapotec people leveled the mountains by hand (no metal tools or even wheels) to build their ceremonial center known as Monte Albán here, complete with temples or astronomical and religious purposes. Mitla and Monte Albán give you an idea of just how advanced this indigenous civilization was in its heyday. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Música: ♫ Mounika. - "Yolo" https://soundcloud.com/mounika-beat ♫ Chris Felix - https://soundcloud.com/chrisfelixmusic This video was filmed with: ► Camera - Nikon D7100: http://amzn.to/2eOiu59 ► Backup Camera - iPhone 6: http://amzn.to/2eWQnOQ ► SanDisk 16GB Memory Card: http://amzn.to/2jfyXhP ► Mophie Smartphone Battery: http://amzn.to/2jxThfv ---------------------------------------------------- Save While Traveling: ► $40 AirBnB Credit: www.airbnb.com/c/kriss3373 ►Viator: $10 Credit for Booking your tour: https://www.viator.com/raf/Q2OHHXCMR ►Lyft - Ride with us, $10 Off your first ride: Code: Kris52643 ►Uber - Ride with us, $10 off your first ride: https://www.uber.com/invite/kristens1469ue Get Social! ► Read on our blog: http://www.runtheatlas.com/blog/ ► Twitter Updates: https://twitter.com/runtheatlas ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/weruntheatlas Help Us Translate This Video Into Your Language: ► http://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UCAAzivZGnEbujxfu6eoO6Lw&tab=2 ►►►Subscribe for more travel photography videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/SquigglesDesigns

WHAT TO SEE IN SALZBURG AUSTRIA IN ONE DAY ⏳🎻🏰

03:58
Salzburg is located in central Austria at the northern edge of the alps, with a population on 150,000 people. It is the fourth largest city in Austria and a popular destination for 4 reasons: it's famous baroque architecture deemed the old town a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it's the birthplace of Mozart, the Salzburg music festival, and it is famous for being the filming location of the "The Sound of Music". The city is divided by the Salzach river, with the new part of town on one side and the old part on the other. 1. Hohensalzburg - translates to "high Salzburg fortress" perched high above the baroque towers of the city. It is the city's famous landmark and one of the largest, fully preserved medieval castles in Europe. Construction began in 1077, built under the archbishop Gebhard during the time when Salzburg was a city in the Holy Roman Empire. Even though you see many cannons, it was never actually used in battle. It was so foreboding that nobody every attacked Salzburg for 1000 years! The fortress is accessible by cable car, making it one of the major tourist attractions. It is also my favorite spot for panoramic views of the city. Make sure to grab a bite at one of the cafes at the top of the castle and appreciate the views of the alps. 2. Mozart's Birthplace - This is Mozart's childhood home. He lived on the third floor for 26 years and is now a museum. Mozart is regarded as one of the greatest composers of the classical period and recognized as a prodigy and one of the most prolific artists. By age 6 he was writing his own compositions. The music plays almost everywhere in this city, and many shops and tourist attractions are dedicated to him. 3. DomQuartier - If you like Baroque architecture, you will love photographing the grandiosity of the DomQuartier. The DomQuartier is the cultural highlight in the heart of the city. The archbishop was key in building this opulent city - he strived to make Salzburg the "Rome of the north". The city's planning and architecture is such a masterpiece that it is protected by UNESCO. It includes the Salzburg Cathedral constructed in the early 16oos. The historic old town survived the ravages of the war, and is hence where most of the tourist attractions are located. 4. Residenzplatz - "Residence Square" - Is part of the old town and one of the most impressive attractions in Salzburg. 5. "The Sound of Music" was filmed in 1965, and tours of the filming locations make Salzburg a popular destination. If you are in central Europe, be sure to visit Salzburg. Welcome to Munich! I visited Munich in September and took the city walking tour, which covers many locals only spots, historic sights, and the best photography sights in the city: ➡Here is the Free Walking Tour: http://www.neweuropetours.eu/munich/en/home# 2:58 - 3:08 1. U-Bahn - It's rare to want to take a metro ride just to see the stations, but in Munich it is worth it. The station stops are colorful and make for great photo shoot locations. 3:10 - 3:50 2. Marienplatz - The central plaza where you can watch the bell tower come alive with the Glockenspiel, which plays three times a day. 4:00 - 4:20 3. Hofbräuhaus - History, beer, traditions... and cool architecture too. 4:26 - 4:55 4. Max-Joseph Platz - The central square where you can find the royal residence and opera house. It is marked by the central statue of Maximilian who ruled Bavaria. 4:59 - 5:04 5. The site was first discovered 1998 and the official excavation began in 2002, with public access starting in 2011. Unlike other pyramid sites in Mexico, this one is located on private property, so you must book a tour. Tour the Pyramid with Coyote Canyon Adventures: ► ►http://www.coyotecanyonadventures.com/index.php?lengua=eng&pagina=main&subseccion=1344033429 Cañada de la Virgen was named after a geode found in the canyon that when opened resembled the virgin Mary. The site served as a ceremonial space where the Otomi people used sophisticated time keeping instruments aligned to the movements of celestial bodies. This area was occupied between 540-1050 AD. We visit local archaeologist, Rossana Quiroz, who studied the lunar calendar of the Otomi people and did much of the research behind this site. We visit the Museum of Prehispanic Astronomy which explores the cycles of the moon and sun in relation to the pyramid. We finish with a delicious Mexican feast at the museum. Enjoy Mexico's best kept secret pyramid! FALLINGWATER - TOUR of FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT'S ACHITECTURE - vlog

05:10
Welcome to Fallingwater, one of the greatest works of American architecture. In this video, we take a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural monument built in 1935. #fallingwater #travelvlog #franklloydwright Fallingwater is one and a half hours outside of Pittsburgh in rural Western Pennsylvania. On the road to Fallingwater, we pass by corn fields, barns, and cows until we reach the Fallingwater estate, which appears like a mirage through a forest of trees. The house was built in modern architecture style atop a waterfall with an architecturally daring cantilever design that allows the home to integrate into the nature. Even in today's standards it would be considered a unique stunning home, but it was built in the late 30s. Fallingwater was built for Edgar Kaufmann, a successful department store businessman. The property was used as the family's weekend residence, and includes multiple bedrooms, balconies, and terraces. We take a one hour tour of the home and the interior. EPIC BIKE RIDE - SANTA MONICA TO VENICE BEACH 🚴🌴🎡

07:42
Ride with us along the Marvin Braude Bike Trail, aka "The Strand" as we go from Santa Monica to Venice and stop off at the major points of interest along the way. Riding along "The Stand" is one of the most epic things to do in West Los Angeles. It covers 22 miles of scenic coastline along the Pacific Coast. First, we rent bikes and head north on The Strand towards the Santa Monica Mountains. Next we go south and ride past the Santa Monica Pier, which is a national iconic landmark and features the Pacific Park amusement park and solar powered Ferris wheel. Next, we go south to Venice Beach where we visit the Public Art Walls, Skate park, Muscle Beach, and Boardwalk. We pass by the famous street art and experience the lively people watching. We end our tour back at our starting point, Santa Monica, where we ride past the original Hot Dog On A Stick, and do a photo shoot at the public art project "Singing Beach Chairs". We get the last glimpses of magic hour sun before turning in our bike rentals for the day. Enjoy! TRIP TO CUSCO PERU - TOP THINGS TO SEE - VLOG

08:39
Cusco is the historic capital of the Inca Empire. In 1983, Cusco was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and has become a major tourist destination, attracting over 2 million visitors per year. In this vlog, we cover the Incan archaeological sights and the Spanish Colonial historic sights. Our Peru Tour: http://www.latinescapes.com We travel from Lima to Cusco with Latin Escapes Tours. Cusco has a high altitude of about 11,000 feet. The first day we rested and sipped the local remedy, coca tea to adjust to Cusco's high altitude. Our city tour of the Inca Royal City of Cusco starts in the very impressionable Central Square, known as the Plaza de Armas, which is surrounded by a beautiful stone arcade. Plaza de Armas is also the city's center point for activity, including performances, music, and fútbol parades. In the Plaza is the Cathedral, which is exceptional because of its contrasts of styles. The first cathedral built in Cusco is the Iglesia del Triunfo, built in 1539 and the basilica was constructed using the stone extracted from the blocks of Incan fortress Saksaywaman. The Church of the Society of Jesus, (commonly known as the Jesuits), was constructed in 1576 and its main altar is made of carved wood covered with gold leaf. The Covent of Santo Domingo was built above the most important Inca Temple, the Temple of the Sun, or Koricancha, as it was known in the Inca language Quechua. Gold laminas or sheets covered the original Inca Temple walls. Near the City of Cusco, you will visit the extraordinary Inca Fortress Sacsayhuaman, made up of three gigantic terraces, superimposed in a zigzag form, and surrounded by enormous walls of rock, some of which are up to 300 meters in length. Qenqo, was a religious center formed by a singular flowering of calcareous rock. It has underground galleries and a semicircular amphitheater with a series of stone seats. Puca Pucará or the Red Fort was military base made up of stone stairways, terraces, and walls. Nearby is Tambomachay, well known as Baths of the Incas, a place dedicated to the cult of the water, formed by aqueducts, channels and small cascades worked in the rock. We visit Museo de Arte Precolombino which has an impressive collection of indigenous crafts, jewelry, and ceramics drawn from all regions of pre-Columbian Peru. HOW to SPEND a LAYOVER in ISTANBUL? 🤔🕌⏳

03:26
What to do in the Istanbul if you have a layover? Join us on our layover trip with Turkish Airlines as we visit Istanbul during our five hour stopover. Watch as we vlog the main architectural highlights of Istanbul. Turkish Airlines offers free layover tours that transport you to the the spectacular sights and back, so long as you meet the layover time limit. Be sure to get your electronic travel visa ahead of time! Layover Tours: ▻http://www.istanbulinhours.com/ We drove along the Bosporus ocean front and about a half hour later, we reached the Blue Mosque. This is one of the architectural crown jewels of Istanbul. It was built in 1616 by Sultan Ahmet when he was only 19 years old. It was built in Islamic late classical Ottoman style with 6 minarets as opposed to the usual two to four for mosques. The interior consists of 260 windows and 20,000 blue tiles, hence the name. There is no entry fee as this is a practicing mosque to this day. Adjacent to the Hagia Sophia is the Blue Mosque. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the architectural wonders of the world. The enormous domed building and towering minarets can be seen from afar. It was originally built as an Eastern Orthodox church in 537 AD, then converted to a mosque in 1453 adding Islamic disks and minarets, and now it has been secularized starting in 1935 as a museum. Many symbols from the original church were covered and not removed during the conversion. There is an entry fee and optional tours (they take credit cards). Seeing this building in person is truly magical. The massive dome is the epitome of Byzantine architecture at 180 feet high. This church has been standing for over 1400 years. Last but not least, we walked across the street and visited the colorful bazaar and got some street food. Istanbul is one of the most unique cities in the world. Demographically, it is one of the largest cities in the world at roughly 15 million people and a 99% Muslim society, although it maintains neutrality between church and state. It was ancient Byzantium and straddles two continents - Europe and Asia. It used to be known as Constantinople thanks to Roman Emperor Constantine. However, it is not the capital of Turkey (that is Ankara). ------------------------------------------------------------------- This video was filmed with: ▻Nikon D7100: http://amzn.to/2eOiu59 ▻iPhone 6: http://amzn.to/2eWQnOQ ▻SanDisk 16GB Memory Card: http://amzn.to/2frWz4o -------------------------------------------------------------- To read more, visit our blog: ▻http://www.runtheatlas.com Twitter: ▻https://twitter.com/runtheatlas Instagram: ▻https://www.instagram.com/weruntheatlas Subscribe for more travel photography videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/SquigglesDesigns

HOW to TRAVEL like a BOSS? My GLOBAL ENTRY Experience

03:03
Have you ever wanted to travel like a boss? I'm talking about no more long customs lines, not having to remove your shoes and computer, and getting through security in a breeze. If you travel multiple times outside of the USA per year like me, then check out Global Entry. It costs $100, and you apply online. The application is straightforward - you provide a detailed employment history as well as a few more facts, such as where you traveled in the past year. Once your application is approved, you are able to pick a time-slot for an interview at your nearest international airport. The soonest interview appointment I could get was four months later at LAX for an after-work time. So apply early if you have an upcoming trip. Next, I went to the customs office for a brief interview and got my fingerprints taken. Now I am all set! The global entry number is ready to use, and a week later the official card came in the mail to show at the airport security for expedited service. This is how you travel like a boss. THAILAND - SNORKELING IN PHI PHI ISLANDS - Travel Vlog 🐠 🇹🇭

06:44
Welcome to Thailand! In this vlog, we take the Phuket Ferry to the Phi Phi Islands, a magical group of islands about two hours off the coast. The islands were made famous in the movie The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio which featured Maya Bay. The beaches include Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Leh islands, which have turquoise waters, sheer green cliffs, and some of the best snorkeling in the world. It looks like paradise. First, we board the ferry around 9am which takes us on a scenic ride to the Phi Phi Islands. We dock off coast of Monkey Beach off of Ko Phi Phi Don to go snorkeling. Our boat provided the snorkel gear and I brought my GoPro. We dive into the underwater adventure and see the best coral reefs and sea life, like parrot fish. Next, we go to Monkey Beach where we see mischievous monkeys grabbing tourist's items, like sunglasses, beer, and more! We get back on the boat to visit Krabi beach, where we go swimming in the warm waters. Then it's time to head back to Phuket! CAMBODIA OFF THE GRID - PHNOM KULEN WATERFALL - vlog

06:47
Welcome to Siem Reap! Wondering what to do in this region beyond Angkor? Well, in this vlog, we venture off the grid 1.5 hours outside of Siem Reap to a remote jungle where we find a sacred mountain and hidden waterfall. First we visit Phnom Kulen, which is a National Park area located about 48 km to the north of the provincial town of Siem Reap. Phnom Kulen is considered a holy mountain in Cambodia, of special religious significance to Hindus and Buddhists who come to the mountain in pilgrimage. It is where the Khmer empire was established in the 9th Century and also served as the quarry for Angkor Wat. The site has two waterfalls and a temple. The Buddhist temple has a reclining Buddha with views of the jungle. The waterfall is where locals gather for picnics and festivities. We went into the waterfall, which was refreshing after experiencing the 90 degree humidity. The area was also one of the last strongholds for the Khmer Rouge in 1979 and even still has landmines. WELCOME TO MEXICO CITY - TOUR AND VLOG

08:14
Mexico City is the cosmopolitan capital of Mexico that is home to 22 million people, a vibrant culinary scene, rich Aztec and colonial heritage, archaeological sights, and many surprises. It is the political, financial and cultural hub of the country. This video will cover the top spots to photograph and sightsee in Mexico City including: 1:57 - 2:49 1. Chapultepec Park Chupultepec Park is more like a forest and is about twice the size of Central Park. 2:12 - 2:41 2. Chapultepec Castle The only "real" castle that housed a reigning monarchy in North America. 2:54 - 4:00 3. Museo Nacional de Antropología There is no wonder this museum got an average five star rating out of about 10K reviews on Trip Advisor- it is one of the finest anthropology museums in the world. 4:35 - 5:11 4. Zocalo Built on top of an Aztec temple, this plaza is the second largest plaza in the world and epicenter of Mexico City's political seat. 5:30 - 6:30 5. Museo Soumaya Museo Soumaya is in the Polanco district, commissioned by Carlos Slim (the richest person in the world) to house part of his art collection. The architecture is stunning. Best of all, the collection is free to view. 0:20 - 1:35 6. Xochimilco This area has been preserved and is a UNESCO World Heritage site that has been described as the Venice of Mexico. 1:42 7. Frida Khalo The museum is one of Mexico City's most vised museums, and rightfully so as she and her husband are arguably Mexico's most notable artists of the 20th Century. 6:55 - 7:10 8. Reforma Street - Paseo de la Reforma Reforma Street is one of the most beautiful boulevards in Mexico City, modeled after European boulevards. 9. Casa de los Azulejos or House of Tiles Built in the 18th century, this architectural gem is located a few blocks from the Zocalo and features white and blue tiles on the outsides, balconies and an indoor courtyard. 10. "Palacio de Correos de Mexico" or Post Office This building was built at the beginning of the 20th Century and features eclectic architecture, a unique staircase, dome, marble floors and elegant façade. 11. Biblioteca Vasconcelos - Library This library has stunning modern architecture. View the design from the interior and go a few floors up to get a grand look at the stacks of books. 12. Observation Decks The tallest observation deck is from Torre Latinamericano. However, some hotels and rooftop restaurants have excellent views of the city for the photos of the panoramic skyline, i.e the Hilton Reforma. 5:19 13. Palacio de Bellas Artes This is one of the most prominent cultural centers in Mexico City, recognized by it's prominent yellow dome. 4:48 14. The Metropolitan Cathedral This is the largest Cathedral in Latin America built on the site of the Templo Mayor of the Aztec city Tenochtitlan. 15. Gran Hotel Ciudad De Mexico This hotel was featured in the opening scene in the movie Spectre and is noted for its historic sophistication and Old World elegance. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ♫ Music: Mounika. ANGKOR WAT! - EXPLORE THE TEMPLE - Travel Vlog

09:09
Welcome to Angkor Wat! In this travel vlog, we take a guided tour of the ancient temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, photograph the sunrise, learn the history, and climb to the top of the temple. First, we get up at 4:45 am to buy our ticket to the temple, which is $62 for a three day pass. At 5 am, we reach the temple and I set up my tripod and filmed a time-lapse photo of the glorious sunrise. Next, our guide gives us the history of the temple, explaining that it was built in the 1100s for the Hindu God Vishnu. He also explains that the temple has one door on the east and five on the west, and the theory is that it is a tomb temple. The temple was "discovered" in the 19th Century by the French, but the Cambodian locals knew it was there all along. However, they never went inside because of the belief that there were spirits inside the temple. We venture inside the ancient temple where we see the gallery and relief carvings of Vishnu and Buddha. Next we visit the top of the temple and get a bird's eye view of Siem Reap.
